Michael McDowell Overcoming Challenges to Find Success in Racing

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Driver Celebrates 200th Start at Watkins Glen

MINNEAPOLIS (August 4, 2016) – NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Michael McDowell has had his fair share of challenges throughout his racing career but draws inspiration while overcoming them and finding his path to success. The driver of the No. 95 Thrivent Financial Chevrolet SS has overcome difficult situations, such as having to race his way into the majority of his races as he moved up through the ranks of NASCAR.

“Driving for some of the smaller teams in NASCAR can be challenging at times,” stated McDowell. “We are a small team at CSLFR, but this is by far the best Cup program I’ve been in. Throughout my career, one of the toughest challenges has been just having to make the races. This is the first year where I’ve been locked-in to the races. Previously, I’ve always had to race my way in.”

“Prior to the changes this year, there were 45 to 48 cars at every race that could make it in – that were legitimate cars,” McDowell continued. “So when you did make races it is a lot of fun and a big adrenaline rush, but it’s definitely a challenge I’ve had to overcome throughout my career.”

Fans can share their own stories about how they are inspired by overcoming challenges through Thrivent Racing’s new inspirational message program at www.ThriventRacing.com.
