CHEVY STRONG IN FINAL PRACTICE AT MICHIGAN INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY

BROOKLYN, Mich. – (August 27, 2016) – Team Chevy had two solid final practice sessions at Michigan International Speedway.  Tony Stewart in his final start at MIS as a full-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competitor led the second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice session.  He was followed by a parade of Chevrolet SS driver’s on the practice sheet, eight of the top 10 overall.  The final Cup Series practice session at MIS was cut short due to weather in the area, but Team Chevy still captured six of the top 10 spots.  Chevrolet is on a quest for the brands 24 victory at their home town track.

FINAL PRACTICE QUOTES:
KASEY KAHNE, NO. 5 FARMERS INSURANCE CHEVROLET SS – 5th in final practice
ON PRACTICE:
“The practice was okay I got loose as soon as I went that first run.  I ran 12 laps and I was getting looser and looser so we were trying to make some more adjustments quick and get back out there when the sun was out and then the rain and lightning came.  I feel great with our Farmers Insurance Chevrolet.  It was good yesterday and again this morning and that practice as well.”

THE CHEVROLET’S AS A WHOLE THEY LOOK AWFULLY STRONG IT SEEMS LIKE CHEVY BROUGHT THEIR A-GAME THIS WEEK:
“I think the Hendrick engine package is strong.  Everybody at Hendrick Motorsports is working hard to get our cars back where they need to be.  Then the No. 5 specifically we changed a lot of little things with set-up and stuff this week that seemed to be much better.  To me the car is just driving much better than the first race here.  The package seems great too; this package that we ran the first race I think is really good here.”

KYLE LARSON, NO. 42 TARGET CHEVROLET SS – 8th in final practice
DOES LOSING PRACTICE TIME HURT YOU GUYS?
“I don’t think so.  I think our Target Chevy is pretty good.  We honestly I don’t think have changed a whole lot from where we unloaded.  I think we are just a little bit different, so all-in-all it’s been a good couple of days.  We would have liked to have qualified better yesterday.  I just got tight on my last run there.  It doesn’t take a whole lot of…you need to get to wide-open as soon as you can and then you can miss it by a half second or less it is worth a lot of mile per hour down the straightaway.  We should have a good race.  Like I said, our Target Chevy is good and really balanced.  I felt like I could kind of move around a little bit there for how narrow the track was I thought I could move around some.  I’m looking forward to it.”

ALEX BOWMAN, INTERIM DRIVER, NO. 88 AXALTA/UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN CHEVROLET SS – 10th in final practice
“It’s been a cool weekend so far.  Obviously, I hate the circumstances, but it’s great to have University of Michigan on board and Axalta and everybody at HMS (Hendrick Motorsports) has done a great job.  Greg (Ives, crew chief) has got the car driving really well.  It’s been a lot of fun and hopefully we can run up front tomorrow. It’s been a crazy week.  Driving this No. 88 car is a lot of fun it’s so cool to have Junior Nation behind me and such a great organization to be a part of.”

HOW WOULD YOU COMPARE THIS WEEKEND TO NEW HAMPSHIRE WEEKEND?
“Probably just easier, I have already done it once, so a lot of the pressure is taken off of me or the pressure that I put on myself of ‘oh can I do it at that level?’  I know I can perform at that level now so we just got to go do it again.  We have been really strong all weekend.  That second practice we didn’t really put up a lap like we wanted to on the short run, but our long run speed was really good.  Our averages are good; obviously our race car is good I just have to do my job.”
