Biffle to Make 500th Career Sprint Cup Start

CONCORD, N.C. (Sept. 7, 2016) – Greg Biffle will make his 500th career Sprint Cup start this Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway.  Biffle made his Sprint Cup debut in 2002 at California driving for Jack Roush.  Over his 15 years in the series he has earned 19 wins, 92 top-five and 175 top 10 finishes.  Biffle will celebrate this milestone with his friend, and former teammate, Jamie McMurray.  The last time two drivers hit their 500th start at the same time was in 1995 with Dale Earnhardt and Terry Labonte at Watkins Glen.

“I’m really excited about making my 500th start,” said Biffle.  “It’s been a great ride and it’s amazing how fast the time goes by.  I’ve got a lot of memories, wins, close races and fun times.  I’ve won a lot of great races and look forward to running for that third championship.”

Only 37 drivers have hit the 500 start mark in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and on Saturday night that number will move up to 39 with the addition of Biffle and McMurray.  In all three NASCAR Series Biffle has a total of 824 starts.  Saturday evening at Richmond will be his 825th start and will tie him with Sterling Marlin for 21st on the all-tire NASCAR National Series combined start list.

Biffle will become only the second driver to make his 500th Sprint Cup start at Roush Fenway Racing, joining Mark Martin who made his 500th start in March of 2002. All but six of Biffle’s 499 starts have been in a Roush Fenway Ford. The veteran driver has led 5,824 laps during his Sprint Cup career, claimed 13 poles and finished inside the top 10 in almost 40 percent of his races.

Highlights for Biffle over his 824 starts to date include a NASCAR XFINITY Championship in 2002 and a Truck Series Championship in 2000.  Biffle also claimed rookie of the year honors in XFINITY and Trucks in 1998 and 2001.  In 2005 Biffle narrowly missed earning the Sprint Cup Championship, finishing second in the standings.

The most memorable win for Biffle came in Michigan on Father’s Day in 2013 where he claimed the 1,000th win for Ford and was able to celebrate with his daughter Emma, her first trip to victory lane.
