CHASE FOR THE NASCAR SPRINT CUP
ROUND 5 OF 10
HOLLYWOOD CASINO 400
KANSAS SPEEDWAY
TEAM CHEVY POST RACE NOTES AND QUOTES
OCTOBER 16, 2016

KEVIN HARVICK, NO. 4 OUTBACK CHEVROLET SS – RACE WINNER
WHAT IS IT ABOUT THE TEAM THAT YOU ARE ABLE TO DO THIS WHEN YOU BACKS ARE AGAINST THE WALL:
“Well the first thing I want to do is thank everybody on the No. 4 team. Everyone at Stewart-Haas Racing, Busch, Mobil 1, ditech, Outback, Chevrolet, Morton Buildings, Bad Boy Buggies, everybody at the Hendrick engine and chassis shops for everything that they do.  These races are so hard to win, and these guys are so good at the details. You put their backs against the wall and they get better.  Really proud of them.”

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU THIS WEEK AFTER DOVER AND CHARLOTTE?
“I think the best thing is that we prepare this thing for every race. I try every week to find something to motivate myself and I know these guys do the same thing.  It’s hard to keep yourself motivated and continue to perform at a high level. Being able to do it for three years now says a lot about the character of this team and the things that they do.  It is like they say, anything that is really, really hard to get and come by, there are going to be some obstacles and some bumps in the road. I am just really proud of everyone at Stewart-Haas Racing.”

WALK THROUGH FINAL RESTART THAT GOT YOU THE WIN:
“I just got two good restarts against the No 19 (Carl Edwards).  He didn’t have a car quite as close to him, and I was able to break that draft before I got to the middle of one and two and get away from him, so that was pretty awesome.  I just needed to go for and that is really the mindset we go into every race in the Chase was to go for, and we did.

“I’ve done a poor job the first half of the year.  We struggled with some ratios and timing.  We came up with some ratios that really fit what we were doing, and the processes and some other things and it has really paid off twice in the Chase.”

JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S CHEVROLET SS – FINISHED 4TH
ARE YOU PLEASED WITH YOUR FINISH CONSIDERING WHERE YOU STARTED?
“Yeah, I mean from a start perspective we knew we were going to have a tough task today to get to the front with the Lowe’s Chevrolet, but a very solid race car.  I love the sun came out and really made it a racy track for us.  I felt like we could have had a shot at the win, it seemed like the No. 19, the No. 4 and us were kind of equal there.  I was able to get the No. 4 by the No. 19 on that restart and just couldn’t clear the No. 19 myself and slipped back to fifth.  Great performance, I think we had a shot at it.  I had a lot of fun today that is for sure and this Lowe’s Chevy is running good we are excited.”

AUSTIN DILLON, NO. 3 DOW COATING MATERIALS CHEVROLET SS – FINISHED 6TH
“We wanted a top five, we missed it by one position.  We were running that No. 18 down pretty hard there at the end.  I’m proud of my guys.  They brought me a really good race car. Currently in the Chase, so, go to Talladega, have a good run and we don’t have anything to worry about.  We just have to have a good run there.  It will be tight all the way down to the wire, but I’m just proud to have this position going into Talladega.”

HOW WAS YOUR DAY AND HOW ARE YOU FEELING ABOUT THIS TEAM?
“I’m proud of the guys.  We did a really good job adjusting on the Kilz Chevrolet and gave us a good finish.  We were running down for our top five that was our goal to get a top five.  One spot short, but we were really close to it.  I’m just proud of these guys, proud of the hard work and effort they put into it each and every week.”

AJ ALLMENDINGER, NO. 47 DILLONS CHEVROLET SS – FINISHED 8TH
“Taking away last week just out right speed I thought we had, that was, it felt like the best 1.5-mile race we put together there.  Good solid top 10 car all day.  I made a mistake and sped on pit road and got us behind a little bit.  Just kind of tough call there at the end.  You don’t know how many people are going to pit and good track position and everybody behind me came.  I was pretty happy to hold most of them off.  I felt like we had about a fifth or sixth place car and we finished eighth with it.  Just a solid day.  We need to keep doing work like this and keep building off of it.”

KURT BUSCH, NO. 41 MONSTER ENERGY/HAAS AUTOMATION CHEVROLET SS – FINISHED 13TH
ON HIS DAY:
“We got up as high as seventh and I could see the front, I could smell the front, I could taste it, we just couldn’t hang.  The last adjustment we made sure to free the car up and the car was tight on the last run.  I don’t know what we have to do with these tires.”

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE TO DO GOING TO TALLADEGA NEXT WEEK IN ORDER TO MOVE ON IN THE CHASE?
“That is a (Tony) Gibson (crew chief) special right there.  We will have a fast car.  I’m not worried about next week.”

TONY STEWART, NO. 14 CODE 3 ASSOCIATES/MOBIL 1 CHEVROLET SS – FINISHED 16TH
YOUR DRIVER WON AND ADVANCED TO THE ROUND OF 8 IN THE CHASE:
“Yeah I’m happy about that. Who wouldn’t be happy?  It’s just proof that time and time again that you kind of back Kevin Harvick in a corner and he comes out the next week firing and finds a way to get it done.  Proud of those guys as always.”

CHASE ELLIOTT, NO. 24 SUNENERGY1 CHEVROLET SS – FINISHED 31st
WHAT HAPPENED?
“We really don’t know. I don’t know if we got the left rear getting up on the race track, or something and it got into the fender and cut it down. I don’t know what to do man, we were trying as hard as we can. We had such a good car today again, and….I don’t know what to do.  Just keep after it and try to move on.”

GOING TO TALLADEGA IN A PRETTY DEEP HOLE, SEEMS LIKE A MUST WIN SITUATION. HOW DO YOU LOOK AT IT?
“I just will go there, and race our hearts out and try to win I guess. That’s about all we can do I guess. We have something to be proud of in the way we have been running. There are just some things we can’t control. I don’t know how to fix that stuff, but I appreciate so hard. These guys deserve better on this SunEnergy1/ NAPA team.  We are bummed, but what do you do. You just have to move on.”
