ADVANCE NOTES

Sprint Cup Debut

This weekend at Talladega Superspeedway, Ryan Reed will get behind the wheel of a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) car for the first time in competition.  Reed will attempt to make his first NSCS start this weekend at Talladega behind the wheel of the No. 99 Lilly Diabetes/American Diabetes Association Ford Fusion.

Reed at Talladega

In three NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) starts at Talladega, Reed has never started outside of the top-10 and has led a total of 37 laps.

Superspeedway Success

In six NXS starts at Daytona International Speedway, Reed has earned one win, two top-fives and three top-10s.

Reed kicked off the 2015 season at Daytona with an eighth-place qualifying effort.  Reed would find his way to the front of the field in the closing laps, leading a total of 14 laps and crossing the finish line in first.

After climbing out of the car, Reed said, “This is for … every kid who gets diagnosed with diabetes, or anything, that says you can’t do something, just go out there and overcome it and do it and win. Do the best you can. This is unreal. It hasn’t even soaked in yet.”

Phil Gould

Reed’s NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) crew chief Phil Gould will also serve as his crew chief in this weekend’s NSCS race.  Gould has 12 superspeedway races under his belt as a NXS crew chief.  In those 12 starts, Gould has one top-five finish and four top-10 finishes.  In four races at Talladega, Gould’s NXS drivers have led at least one lap in each start.

Reed on Talladega

“I can’t wait to get to Talladega.  To be this close to achieving a goal of mine is huge.  I know our Lilly Diabetes/American Diabetes Association team has been working really hard to bring a stout piece to the track.  Our goal is to go out there and keep our nose clean, run all of the laps, earn some respect and hopefully be in contention for a solid finish at the end.”

Tune-in

Reed and the rest of the NSCS will take the green flag from Talladega on Sunday, October 23rd at 2 p.m. ET on NBCSN.
