Biffle Rebounds from Mid-Race Wreck to Finish 15th at Talladega

TALLADEGA, Ala. (Oct. 23, 2016) – Greg Biffle had a fast No. 16 Cheez-It Ford at Talladega. Biffle started the race fifth, led for a total of 13 laps until debris on the grille cost him the lead. As Biffle was drafting his way back towards the front he suffered heavy damage in a mid-race accident, but was able to rebound back and improve 12 positions in the closing stages to earn a 15th-place finish.

From his fifth-place starting position Biffle was a constant fixture in the top 10 over the first portion of the race. On lap 64 Biffle was able to draft his way to the lead and pace the field for a total of 13 laps. While leading a piece of debris got stuck on the grille of Biffle’s Ford causing engine temperatures to rise. While attempting to dislodge the debris Biffle got hung out high and lost track position, but was able to clear the grille of his Ford.

Biffle was working his way back through the field when he was collected on lap 155 with the No. 83 and No. 13. The damage sent him through the grass and to his teams’ attention for repairs. Multiple pit stops ensued and Biffle lost a lap to the field. The extra time on pit road for repairs paid off as the No. 16 continue to handle well on track.

Biffle received the “lucky dog” award with the help of a debris caution as the race wound down. Biffle found himself back on the lead lap and looking for a solid finish. A late race caution set the field up for a green-white-checkered finish. Biffle took the final green flag from the 27th position and was able to draft his way forward to cross the finish line 15th in his No. 16 Cheez-It Ford.
