Josh Berry and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane team are headed into Sunday’s Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway hoping to put behind them the bad luck that has kept them from capitalizing on fast Ford Mustangs in the past two races. At Martinsville, Berry led 40 laps in the early going before electrical issues knocked him out of contention. Then last Sunday at Darlington he moved up from his 24th starting position to fifth place only to be involved in a crash that took him out of the race.
Now he’s headed to Bristol, where in last year’s Food City 500, driving for his previous team, he qualified on the outside pole and led twice for 25 laps before finishing 12th.
“I’m definitely looking forward to getting to Bristol,” Berry said. “It’s its own beast and is unique in how it races compared to other short tracks. Last week didn’t go the way we wanted, but this group always shows up ready to bounce back, and I feel good about where we are heading into the weekend. If we can qualify strong and stay clean on pit road, I know we’re capable of putting together a solid day.”
Practice at Bristol is set for Saturday at 2 p.m. Eastern Time to be followed by qualifying at 3:05. Amazon Prime will carry the TV coverage. Sunday’s 266.5-mile, 500-lap race is set to get the green flag just after 3 p.m. with TV coverage on FS1. Stage breaks are planned for laps 125 and 250.
