Martinsville Speedway, Gen-6 Cars Look To Be Perfect Short-Track Combo

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (March 18, 2013) – Martinsville Speedway fans everywhere should be wearing huge smiles today. The new Gen-6 Sprint Cup cars passed their first short-track test yesterday with flying colors.

In less than three weeks, on April 7, these sleek, fast and very competitive cars roll into Martinsville Speedway for the STP® Gas Booster™ 500.

“Now with one short-track race in the record book, I think the Gen-6 car is perfect for Martinsville Speedway,” said Clay Campbell, president of Martinsville Speedway. “I thought all along that this new car, especially being 100 pounds lighter, will certainly make a good race car on a half-mile track. They should be faster than ever!”

Tight racing on short tracks means lots of bumping and banging, which leads to irritable and angry drivers. Sunday was no different. Denny Hamlin and his former Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Joey Logano had a couple on-track altercations, which led to frayed tempers and a little pushing and shoving in the pits. It didn’t end there; the two had a spirited exchange on Twitter later in the evening.

“With the STP® Gas Booster™ 500 at Martinsville being the next short-track race, you can bet tempers will flare, scores will be settled and favors returned,” said Campbell. “That’s what fans always expect to see here and I’m sure they won’t be disappointed.”

Tickets remain for all of the STP® Gas Booster™ 500 weekend action. The weekend kicks off with NASCAR Sprint Cup and Camping World Truck Series practice and qualifying on Friday, April 5, followed by the Kroger 250 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race on Saturday, April 6. The STP® Gas Booster™ 500 is scheduled for Sunday, April 7.

Adult tickets for the STP® Gas Booster™ 500 start at just $37. Tickets for youth 12 and under are just $10 in the Clay Earles Tower, rows 15-52. Teen tickets (ages 13-17) in the same area are $25. Youth and teen ticket prices are good with the purchase of an adult ticket.

Tickets for all of the weekend’s events may be purchased by calling 877.RACE.TIX or by visiting www.martinsvillespeedway.com.
