No. 9 Stanley Ford Team Looks to Master Kansas Speedway
CONCORD, N.C. (April 16, 2013) – After an Aussie win at the Masters, Australian native Marcos Ambrose looks to secure another win for the country by taking the checkered flag at the STP 400 this weekend at Kansas Speedway. The No. 9 Stanley Ford team looks to master the high-banked 1.5-mile track in the series’ first of two stops at the Kansas City, Kan., track.
Ambrose has finished in the top-16 in the last three races at the 1.5-mile track, including his best finish of ninth in the fall 2011 event. In his seven starts at Kansas Speedway, he has scored four top-16 finishes since his track debut in 2008.
The past two race weekends, the Richard Petty Motorsports No. 9 team and Ambrose have really shown their strength. The team has qualified second and fourth in consecutive weeks, finished eighth at the Martinsville Speedway and raced in the top-10 for the majority of the race in Texas before an accident. Ambrose has climbed to 16th in the championship standings in the past two weeks- a seven position climb since California.
Richard Petty Motorsports sends their thoughts and prayers to those affected by the events in Boston on Monday.
Comments from Stanley Ford Fusion Driver Marcos Ambrose:
“The crowd back in Oz is pretty excited about Adam Scott winning the Masters this past weekend. That was a pretty big news story and we’re hopeful that we can make everyone back home proud again with a win this weekend. They are great fans and very enthusiastic about NASCAR. I’m honored to have that support, and just like Adam did, we want to bring home a big trophy.”
“The past few weekends we have started to gain a lot of momentum. Drew and the guys have brought some really fast cars and we’ve been one of the fastest on the track. We have some great communication and chemistry and it’s paying off since our Easter break. We have to keep going in this direction, but things are looking good for our Stanley team. At the same time this weekend, our thoughts will be in Boston, too.”
Comments from Crew Chief Drew Blickensderfer on Kansas:
“It’s like Marcos said, we have some momentum and our cars have been pretty good since Easter. We tested after the break and learned more about the new Gen 6. We are still learning, but we have had some good setups for Marcos the past few weeks. At Kansas, we need to keep working on the mile-and-a-half package. Texas we were pretty fast and I expect we can keep it up this weekend.”
Chassis History:
The No. 9 team has prepared chassis No. 840 for Texas. The team ran this chassis in Vegas earlier this season.
