CASSILL RECORDS TOP 20 AT PHOENIX

AVONDALE, Ariz. – Landon Cassill brought the Flex Seal Chevrolet home 19th Saturday in the rain-shortened Blue Jeans Go Green 200 Nationwide Series race at Phoenix International Raceway.

The race was the second event of the Nationwide season.

Driving for the JD Motorsports with Gary Keller team, Cassill raced with a decal honoring Kyle Davis, son of team owner Johnny Davis, on his No. 01 car. Kyle, a frequent presence in the JD Motorsports shop in Gaffney, S.C., died Friday.

“We’re all thinking about Kyle and Johnny and the family,” Cassill said. “It’s been a tough weekend here. It’s been hard to think about the racing, but we put in the full effort like everyone would expect.”

Cassill raced into the top 15 near the race’s midpoint and finished as the second car one lap down.

The race, scheduled for 200 laps, was stopped because of rain at 168 laps and was called official at that length after a wait of about two hours.

Kyle Busch dominated, leading 155 of the 168 laps on the way to victory.

The Nationwide Series moves on to Las Vegas Motor Speedway this week.
