American Diabetes Association Youth Ambassador Jacob Hudson to ‘Ride with Ryan’
CONCORD, N.C. (June 24, 2014) – For the third time this season, Roush Fenway Racing’s Ryan Reed has a special guest riding along with him during Friday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Kentucky Speedway. The No. 16 American Diabetes Association Drive to Stop DiabetesSM presented by Lilly Diabetes Ford Mustang will carry Jacob Hudson’s name above the passenger side window. Hudson is a Youth Ambassador for the American Diabetes Association’s Greater Cincinnati area.
Hudson was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on April 18, 2013. The 14-year-old has refused to let diabetes slow him down. He continues to play basketball and is a red belt in Tae Kwon Do.
“Overall my life has changed a lot since I was diagnosed last year,” Hudson said. “I want to help anyone else who needs support and wants to learn more, since I didn’t know anything about diabetes before I was diagnosed.”
The ‘Riding with Ryan’ program rolls into its third weekend at Kentucky Speedway. The name of a Youth Ambassador will be featured on the No. 16 Ford Mustang at 11 races this season, coinciding with races where there is an activation space for Drive to Stop Diabetes.
Drive to Stop Diabetes will host an activation space in the fan midway at a total of 15 races during the 2014 season. The display area features the No. 16 Drive to Stop Diabetes racing simulator, diabetes awareness and educational materials, as well as various prizes.
“I’m excited to have the name of another Youth Ambassador on this Drive to Stop Diabetes Mustang,” said Reed. “One of the most exciting things about this platform is meeting people who want to share the message that diabetes doesn’t have to define who you are. I continue to be amazed by these Youth Ambassadors as well as what the American Diabetes Association and Lilly Diabetes do for the diabetes community.”
The NNS takes the green flag from Kentucky Speedway on Friday, June 27 at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN and PRN.
