Gilliland Drives Love’s Ford into Brickyard ‘Funnel’

Driver Feels New Rule Package Will Help No. 38 Team at Indy

STATESVILLE, JULY 22, 2014 – David Gilliland, driver of the No. 38 Love’s Travel Stops Ford, comments on racing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway:”Indianapolis is a special place. You feel it just pulling into the tunnel there. There’s just so much history there and it’s an incredible racetrack. It’s also a tough racetrack to get a hold of. It’s flat and fast with long straightaways, and that makes it challenging. But, I think the new rules package that NASCAR has is going to help put on a better race there than ever. It’s always been so much aero there and getting cars down and sealed off. And I think this new rule package just made it a little easier for everybody.

“Boy, it’s narrow — often too narrow for a stock car. It feels OK coming off of Turn 4 and going down the front straightaway, and then it’s like driving into a funnel. When you get down to Turn 1, it’s tight. You see a lot of action happen down there.”

JUST THE FACTS: Gilliland has six Sprint Cup career starts at Indianapolis Motor Speedway … He has two top-20 finishes at the 2.5-mile oval … His best finish at IMS is 17th (2007) … Love’s Travel Stops returns as primary sponsor of the No. 38 Ford at Indianapolis.

How narrow does it get on track on @IMS? @DavidGilliland compares driving into Turn 1 to ‘driving into a funnel.’ #NASCAR
