Kraig Kinser Visits Three Tracks in Two States in Six Days

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — August 11, 2014 — With the Knoxville Nationals now in the books, the season starts to wind down for many racers across the country. That’s not the case for the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series as yet another busy stretch of races begins this week. Kraig Kinser will embrace this swing through the Plains and Upper Midwest, as he will be action at three different tracks in a pair of states over the course of a six-day span.

The World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series is back in action on Tuesday, August 12 at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Nebraska. The series then heads to North Dakota for the completion of the 2014 Gerdau Ameristeel Northern Tour, with a visit to River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks on Friday, August 15, and a stop at Nodak Speedway in Minot onSunday, August 17.

Kinser finished second last Friday on his preliminary night of the Knoxville Nationals at the famed Knoxville Raceway in Iowa, which was postponed a couple of days by rain. He led 23 laps of that 25-lap preliminary feature before Shane Stewart slipped by on the final lap to take the win. The 50-lap finale of the Knoxville Nationals last Saturday night, saw Kinser finish 10th in the Mesilla Valley Transportation/Casey’s General Store/King Racing Products Maxim. Over 100 cars gathered for the 54th running of the biggest event in sprint car racing.

“We had a pretty good Nationals and hopefully can carry that momentum into the rest of the season,” said Kinser. “There is always a sort of sigh of relief when the Nationals wrap up and we get to head west and up to Canada and always have a great time up there. We have a great mindset heading into this stretch of races.”

The native of Bloomington, Indiana, has made three starts in his career at Junction Motor Speedway. He finished 18th last year at the banked three-eighths-mile. Kinser has a best finish of 14th at the track in 2012. He made his debut at Junction Motor Speedway in 2010.

Kinser has made one start at River Cities Speedway this season, finishing 23rd on June 20, after having trouble in the A-Feature. He opened the night as the fifth-fastest qualifier of the 37 entries. Kinser came home third in the third heat race to punch his ticket into the 40-lap A-Feature. The 2005 winner of the Knoxville Nationals was victorious at River Cities Speedway with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series in 2012. Kinser has made a total of 13 starts with the series at the high-banked three-tenths-mile, earning six top-10 finishes, with two of those being top-fives.

Kinser finished sixth at Nodak Speedway in 2013. He powered his way from the 14th starting position to post his fifth-career top-10 finish at the three-eighths-mile in six starts. In his debut at the oval located at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds in 2008, Kinser finished third, which to date remains his best finish at the track.

“We have a good mix of tracks this week,” Kinser said. “Junction is an amazing facility and as long as the wind and sun aren’t too bad, it’s usually a pretty racy surface. Grand Forks, we always look forward to. It’s definitely one of the raciest tracks anywhere and Don (Mack) and his crew did a magnificent job up there. Then, we go to Nodak (Speedway) and I’ve had some good runs there over the years and feel pretty comfortable there.”

Kinser enters this week’s three races ninth in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series championship standings, on the strength of 22 top-10 finishes on the season.
