Elliott Racing – Quaker State Lincoln Welders Modified Shines Strong Hold On 3rd In Point Standings August 23rd Race #25

We ran our Modified on Saturday at Sunset Speedway in front of a huge crowd, maybe the biggest of the season. The stands were full and the racing was awesome.
Our team was ready right out of the trailer. We went through pre-race tech, and all was good for our car to practice.

After hot laps we were very happy with our car knowing we would be a contender at Sunset Speedway in this class today.
The first heat we started 5th and finished 4th. It was a good run and there were no changes to be made. In the second qualifier we started 3rd and moved into 2nd and caught the leader. We ran very close for the final few laps, putting on a good show for the fans.

We moved into third place and within a few laps ran down the leader. We raced hard, nose to tail with Davey Terry #14 for the final four laps. We finished 2ndon his back bumper.

The Checker Flies……We Come A Close Second
In the 30 lap feature our car was very fast in the close tough field. Davey Terry got the lead, and kept it until lap 10. We were caught in traffic and took a while to get into third place where we stayed until lap 15, then dropped back to 4th.

Once in 4th we tried several times to get by the #14 but had to check up so we wouldn’t get into the side of his car. However with about 10 laps to go we made contact during my 3rd time trying to pass and the impact bent our front end enough to make the car not turn very well in the middle of the corner.
Finally on lap 22 we got by the hard battling Terry to move into 3rd place. We raced down the front chute and into turn one still side by side and then I got the call from my spotter that we were clear.

We held on to 3rd spot until 2 laps to go. The damage from the impact with Terry made it so our car was not as fast as it had been. We would lose 4th to #7 Brent McLean but hold on to 4th and have an overall great night, strengthening our hold on 3rd in the point standing from an 11 point lead over 4th, to a 20 point cushion with two races left in this schedule.
