ADVANCE NOTES
· Reed at Kansas Speedway
o Ryan Reed will make his first NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start at Kansas Speedway this weekend.
o Reed has one ARCA Racing Series start at the 1.5-mile track, which came in 2012, when he started 14th and finished 10th.
· The Car
o The No. 16 American Diabetes Association Drive to Stop DiabetesSM presented by Lilly Diabetes team will race Chassis RK-859 for the fourth time this season. This chassis has also raced at Texas Motor Speedway (20th), the spring race at Dover International Speedway (27th) and the most recent race at Bristol Motor Speedway (14th).
· Riding with Ryan
o For the eighth time this season, Reed has a special guest riding along with him during Saturday’s NNS race at Kansas Speedway. The No. 16 American Diabetes Association Drive to Stop DiabetesSM presented by Lilly Diabetes Ford Mustang will carry Kyle Gray’s name above the passenger side window.
o Gray was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2013, at the age of eight. Instead of letting the disease define him, Gray has continued life as any 10-year-old would. In addition to his duties as an American Diabetes Association Youth Ambassador, the Grain Valley, Mo. native enjoys playing cards and video games and spending time with his friends.
o “I’m thrilled to have Kyle’s name on our Mustang this weekend in Kansas,” said Reed. “These Youth Ambassadors are always such an inspiration. The American Diabetes Association, Lilly Diabetes and the whole Drive to Stop Diabetes platform is successful because of people like Kyle. It’s so important to me to be able to show people living with diabetes that it doesn’t have to define who you are, and Kyle is a great example of that.”
· Visit the American Diabetes Association’s Drive to Stop Diabetes Midway Display
o Drive to Stop Diabetes presented by Lilly Diabetes will host an activation space in the fan midway at Kansas Speedway. The display area features the No. 16 Drive to Stop Diabetes racing simulator, diabetes awareness and educational materials as well as various prizes.
o Reed will appear for a Q&A at the Drive to Stop Diabetes display on Saturday, October 4 from 10:15 – 10:30 a.m. CT.
· Recapping Dover International Speedway
o Reed ran inside the top-15 for the majority of Saturday afternoon’s NNS race at Dover International Speedway. Ultimately, the No. 16 Ford Mustang ran out of fuel with three laps remaining, crossing the finish line in 24th.
QUOTE WORTHY
Reed on racing at Kansas Speedway:
“I’m really looking forward to getting on track at Kansas. This is my first Nationwide Series start here, but I have one ARCA start in 2012. I’m hoping that I will be able to pull from that experience. Last season the No. 16 team ran well here, so I think Seth [Barbour] will have a solid setup in our Drive to Stop Diabetes Mustang.”
