Bayne Earns Season-Best 9th-Place Finish in Michigan

BROOKLYN, Mich. (June 14, 2015) – Trevor Bayne, driver of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Fusion, recorded a ninth-place finish – his best of the season — in the rain-marred NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) race at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday afternoon.

“I feel like this was a really solid weekend for this No. 6 AdvoCare team,” said Bayne after the race. “We qualified inside the top-20 and made really good gains on the car throughout practice. We had a good car today that had good speed all race long. It’s great to come home with a top-10 finish. (Crew chief) Bob (Osborne) made a great pit call and we were able to catch a break with that caution. This feels great.”

Bayne began the rain-shortened event from the 20th position after advancing to the second round of NSCS qualifying on Friday evening. Bayne was able to maintain his track position throughout the first run of the race, improving up to the 18th position just prior to the first red flag of the day for rain on Lap 11. After attempting to go back to green on Lap 19, the race was again halted for rain.

Once back under green, Bayne remained inside the top 20 until the Lap 40 competition caution gave Osborne and the team the opportunity to make adjustments to the handling of the AdvoCare Ford. Following the pit stop, the race was once again red flagged for rain. The green flag would come out following the delay on Lap 51 with Bayne restarting in the 26th position.

Wasting little time, the Knoxville, Tenn. native was able to utilize the first long green flag run of the afternoon to work his way back into the top 20 just prior to hitting pit road for adjustments on Lap 83. Returning to the track 24th, Bayne worked his way back inside the top 20 during the ensuing green flag run.

Running fast lap times, Bayne was able to run longer on fuel than the majority of cars ahead of him, working his way inside the top 10 just prior to the caution coming out on Lap 124. After pitting under caution for four tires and adjustments, Bayne would take what turned out to be the final restart from the 13th position. A dynamic three-wide move on the outside of turn two catapulted Bayne back into the top-10, as he raced his way up to ninth.

The Roush Fenway Racing driver would maintain his track position until the caution came out for the final time for rain on Lap 138. Persistent rainfall forced the premature end of the race just moments later, with Bayne scoring his best finish of the 2015 NSCS season.

Next up for the NSCS is Sonoma Raceway on Sunday, June 28.
