Joey Logano qualified ninth for Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Atlanta Motor Speedway. It was a career-best qualifying effort for Logano at the 1.5-mile facility.

The win would have put him in great position to make the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, which begins in two weeks. Gordon had to settle for the runner-up spot, but still has one more shot to make the Chase with a win next week at Richmond International Raceway.

Didn’t qualify very well and after practicing didn’t think we were going be well but once again the 2 crew stepped up and gave me a great racecar and drove ‘er up towards about fifth and that was kind of where we leveled off and that restart was able to get up third. But just a solid night here at Atlanta and proud of the effort. Got some good consistency and some great cars and it feels good to be locked into the Chase, too.”
