Gordon’s resume, however, may be the most impressive as he leads the series with nine road course wins, five at Sonoma and four at Watkins Glen. Although his last triumph was in 2006, this could be one of his best opportunities to bring home his first checkered flag of the season.

Roush Fenway Racing has announced that long-standing partner Cargill Beef will return to the No. 17 team with NASCAR Champion driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in 2015. Cargill will serve as a primary partner for multiple races on the No. 17 beginning with the famed Southern 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Darlington Raceway on Sept 6.

Not one to chatter much on the radio, Larson will be letting his voice be heard on Wednesday night in San Francisco when he helps to lead the the crowd at AT&T Park in singing “Take me Out to the Ballgame” as the Giants take on the San Diego Padres. This will be Larson’s second trip to a baseball game this season. He previously threw out the first pitch during a Los Angeles Dodgers spring training game while NASCAR was in Phoenix.

Make the racing better. That seems to be what NASCAR is locked into and bless ‘em for trying. Outside of running all the races at Daytona, Talladega and Bristol, it is a challenge. The good old days had winners taking the flag by laps, not seconds, so no solution can be found there.

"I've always liked road course racing, and Sonoma [Raceway] was a challenge for me last year. I've always felt good about my road course racing skills, but Sonoma is a completely different animal. I'm looking forward to getting all of the practice time I can get this weekend.

Richard Childress Racing has swapped its No. 3 and No. 33 Chevrolet Camaro crew chiefs on its NASCAR XFINITY Series program. The changes are effective immediately, moving crew chief Nick Harrison to the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops/Yuengling Light Lager/WESCO/Red Kap Chevrolet and Danny Stockman to the No. 33 Rheem/Menards Chevrolet.

"Last year was my first time ever seeing Sonoma and it was a learning process. I'll use this entire weekend to get reacquainted with the track - there's nothing else like it on the schedule for comparison."

Michigan Recap: Denny Hamlin finished 11th in the rain-shortened NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway on June 14, benefiting from a caution midway through a cycle of green flag pit stops to regain track position prior to a big rain shower that ended the event at the two-mile track won by Kurt Busch.

This weekend at Sonoma Raceway will mark a double-feature for Roush Fenway Racing driver Trevor Bayne. In preparation of his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) start at the 1.990-mile road course, Bayne will be competing in the K&N Pro Series West race on Saturday afternoon behind the wheel of the No. 60 AdvoCare Ford Fusion for Bill McAnally Racing.

Greg Biffle has proven over the years that he can hold his own when it comes to road course racing. Biffle was born and raised on the West coast and loves heading back that way, especially for road course racing. In his 12 career Sprint Cup starts at Sonoma, Biffle has earned two top-five and six top-10 finishes and has finished on the lead lap in 11 of those starts. Biffle’s last three starts at the 1.99-mile road course have resulted in top 10 finishes.
