Winding Through Wine Country…After a weekend off, Justin Allgaier and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) head to their first road course race of the season this weekend at Sonoma Raceway. Allgaier made his first Sonoma NSCS start last year. To gain more practice on the 1.99-mile road course last year, Allgaier also competed in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race. Crew Chief Steve Addington has two wins at Sonoma, earned in 2008 and 2011.

Do You Know…BRANDT Professional Agriculture has one of the largest organic manufacturing facilities in the United States at their Fresno, Calif. office. Justin will spend Thursday afternoon at the Fresno location for a customer and employee luncheon, and meet and greet.

Take a Look…Allgaier’s traditional BRANDT red No. 51 Chevy will have grapes on the rear quarter-panels this weekend. The grapes represent BRANDT’s relationships in the wine industry.

Michigan Recap…The NSCS visited Michigan International Speedway (MIS) two weekends ago for the first of two stops in the Irish Hills this season. Despite poor weather forecasts, Allgaier and his HScott Motorsports team were able to get in all three practice sessions as well as qualifying at MIS. Unfortunately, several red-flag periods for rain throughout the race made it difficult for Allgaier to work his way through the field. After one last large downpour, the race was ended and made official on lap 138 with Allgaier in the 27th position in the No. 51 Switch Hitch Chevrolet.

Justin Allgaier on Sonoma Raceway:

“I’ve always liked road course racing, and Sonoma [Raceway] was a challenge for me last year. I’ve always felt good about my road course racing skills, but Sonoma is a completely different animal. I’m looking forward to getting all of the practice time I can get this weekend. I think qualifying will be interesting since this is the first time we aren’t going to have our usual road-course qualifying format. It’s a big weekend for BRANDT, and they’ll have about 100 people at the track on Sunday. They also have a large office down in the Fresno area, and I’ll be there on Thursday to visit with the employees and customers.”

Crew Chief Steve Addington on Sonoma Raceway:

“Everyone will have different strategies this weekend. We will see some guys work the race backwards on fuel windows, others will not. It’ll be good for Justin to follow behind a couple of the guys around the track to see how they are entering and exiting different corners, where they are braking, etcetera. Restarts will be key this weekend. Cars get bunched up on restarts at the ovals, but they get especially wild at road courses. It’s so easy to get a lot of damage and get shoved out of the groove, and before you know it the leaders are a few turns away already.”

About Competition Director and Crew Chief Steve Addington:
