NASCAR Cup Series

Martin Truex Jr.’s No. 78 Furniture Row Chevrolet will have a unique paint scheme for Saturday night’s (June 28) NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series race at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta. Truex’s car for the Quaker State 400 will be fully wrapped in World Vision colors to create awareness for the Christian global humanitarian organization.

“It means a lot to me,” Carl Edwards, driver of the No. 99 Aflac Ford for Roush Fenway Racing, said. “And then the real special part to me was to stand in Victory Lane at Sonoma and have Jeff Gordon come and give me a handshake as the second place finisher means a lot.”

Carl Edwards won his first road course in Sonoma, California Sunday. He ended a five race Hendrick Motorsports win streak that started in Kansas. Edwards took the lead from Marcos Ambrose with 25 laps to go and never looked back.

Jeff Gordon came within 0.591 seconds of earning his sixth win at Sonoma Raceway in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Save Mart 350, but crossed the finish line in second. The driver of the No. 24 Panasonic Chevrolet SS led a contingent of Chevrolet power in the top-10, seven teams strong.

Clint Bowyer (10th) was the first Camry driver to the finish line in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) race at California’s Sonoma Raceway. The result is Bowyer’s sixth top-10 finish of the season.

"But of course, on that last lap, I gave it my best effort and closed up on him, but I just drove into (Turn) 11 as hard as I could. We weren’t good in 11 anyway. He didn’t overdrive it. I was hoping he might slide up and I’d get a run underneath him. But all in all, it was a great weekend for this Panasonic Chevy and I could not have been more proud of the calls made and everything the team did.

Five years ago, NASCAR and the Armed Forces Foundation partnered to find a way to give back to service members who fight for and protect the freedoms all Americans enjoy. Together, they created NASCAR Troops to the Track, a year-round recreational group therapy program that honors service men and women, veterans and military families at races throughout the country.

Jamie McMurray won his second consecutive pole at Sonoma Raceway after a final run in the closing minutes of Knockout Qualifying with a track record qualifying speed of 96.350 mph. This is his third pole at Sonoma and his tenth series career pole.

While the actual race at Sonoma Raceway is of importance, it's not the only thing going on this weekend for the stars of the Sprint Cup Series. El Cajon, California native Jimmie Johnson is back in his home state and enjoying every bit of it.

Los Gatos, California native A.J. Allmendinger missed the trip to Sonoma Raceway as he didn't have a full Sprint Cup Series ride last season.
