Jeff Gordon scored his first NASCAR Sprint Cup win of the season at Kansas Speedway by leading the final nine laps of the 5-Hour Energy 400 behind the wheel of his No. 24 Axalta Coatings Chevrolet SS.

On the final set of pit stops, Jeff Gordon took the lead from Kevin Harvick during Saturday night's 5-Hour Energy 400 at Kansas Speedway and was able to hold off Harvick by two car lengths at the finish line and capture his 89th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series career victory.

Kevin Harvick took the Coors Light Pole Award for the 5-hour ENERGY 400 Benefiting Special Operations Warrior Foundation with a new track record of 27.799 seconds or 194.658 mph. This is Harvick's eighth pole in 477 Sprint Cup Series races and his second in 17 races at Kansas Speedway.

As each week ticks by, a constant question continues to be asked - when will Jimmie Johnson win a race this season? As we stand 10 laps into the season, six-time currently sits seventh in points with three top-fives and five top-10s.

“The guys did a good job. We came here and tested. I’m not sure if that didn’t hurt us more than the guys that didn’t test because they changed the tire so much. We were so adapted to the other tire that we really kind of had to undo a lot of the things that helped us when we were here testing. Once we got that out of the car -- we started making progress throughout practice."

"I got tight and wasn’t able to hold the speed to get the pole. Overall it is a good starting spot and we are qualifying well. If you count out the restrictor plate stuff we are still the only car to make it through every session and we are proud of that and ready to go for another win.”

“Just have to thank everybody on my Jimmy John’s Chevrolet for all that they do. It was ‘Freaky Fast’ today so just have to put it all together tomorrow night when it counts. The pole is great, these guys have done a great job for qualifying. It makes life a lot easier when you can have pit stall one.

Going into Kansas this weekend, we are celebrating Mother’s Day. Let’s see some drivers that are going to make their momma’s proud, and that we need to keep an eye on during the Sprint Cup Series race there Saturday Night.

Carl Edwards, driver of the No. 99 Aflac Ford Fusion, is still looking for his first victory on what he considers his home track. The Columbia, Missouri, native has never been bashful to say a win at Kansas would be on par for him with a win at Daytona. Edwards spoke about that and his chances to cross this race off his bucket list with media members Friday afternoon.
