NASCAR Cup Series

Michael Annett and his Accell Construction Chevrolet SS team finished 25th in Saturday night's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway.

Through the first 11 races of the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup season, Richard Petty Motorsports (RPM) has shown vast improvement in all areas. With Aric Almirola, driving the No. 43 Farmland Ford, leaving Kansas with another Top-10, RPM has earned a total of five Top-10 finishes through the first 11 races. The results have come at both short tracks and now a mile-and-half oval. Only feature races at Daytona and Talladega, have Almirola and teammate Marcos Ambrose not been in the Top-10.

Surprising: Weird and freaky things continue to happen at NASCAR races and the Kansas race was no exception. The lights went dark on the back stretch, the speedy dry truck lost a gear, and the car that was ‘Freaky Fast’, starting from the pole with a new track record, just could not pull off the victory, coming in second instead.

Alex Bowman and the No. 23 Dr Pepper Toyota Camry team finished 35th at Kansas Speedway on Saturday night. Bowman fought the handling of his Toyota Camry early in the race, but his charge to the checkered flag was slowed by a late-race accident on the frontstretch.

Cole Whitt and the No. 26 Iowa Chop House Toyota Camry team finished 28th at Kansas Speedway on Saturday night. After challenges with the handling of his racecar early in the event, Whitt's BK Racing team dialed in their car and the Sunoco Rookie contender easily drove to a top-30 finish.

Ryan Truex and the No. 83 Burger King / Dr Pepper Toyota Camry team finished 43rd at Kansas Speedway on Saturday night. Scored inside the top 10 during a round of green flag pit stops, Truex's climb was quickly slowed as a multi-car accident in turn four left the Burger King / Dr Pepper Toyota with race-ending damage.

Carl Edwards headed to Kansas Speedway looking for win number one at his home track. The No. 99 Aflac Ford Fusion started from the fourth-spot and remained solidly inside the top-five for the beginning of the race, opting to stay out with the leaders while most of the field came down pit road under cautions.

Richard Childress Racing teammates Ryan Newman, Paul Menard and Austin Dillon finished 11th, 17th and 19th, respectively. Newman ranks eighth in the Sprint Cup Series championship point standings, trailing current leader Jeff Gordon by 62 points, while Dillon ranks 14th and Menard ranks 18th.

After leading a career high 26 laps last spring at Kansas Speedway, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. battled an ill-handling Zest Ford for a majority of Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race forcing the two-time champion to settle for a 22nd- place finish.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit celebrated Mother’s Day with a Saturday night race under the lights at Kansas Speedway. Biffle qualified his No. 16 3M Novec Ford 10th but battled grip and track position throughout the race, ultimately crossing the finish line 16th.
