Using the words of Tony the Tiger, Jimmy Fennig’s pit strategy was “Grrrreat” as it led Carl Edwards and the No. 99 Kellogg’s / Frosted Flakes Ford to victory lane in the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Rain. That was the theme of the cool, overcast, and often wet event at Bristol last Sunday. Rain delayed things, then stopped it all together for two hours as we sat on lap 125 of 500 for a spell. Often in the past, we have seen the guys who are leading near the start of the race just happen to be the same dudes there at the end.

Just as in the Daytona 500, starting in day and ending at night due to extensive rain delays, here is what else was surprising...

Richard Childress Racing teammates Austin Dillon, Ryan Newman and Paul Menard finished 11th, 16th and 21st, respectively.

A late-race hit spoiled a solid run by Martin Truex Jr. in Sunday’s rain-delayed Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

In a race plagued by inclement weather for the entire day and into the evening, the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway was shortened by 2.5 laps when the skies opened-up again and forced Round 4 of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series to end under caution. Mother Nature finished ahead of Team Chevy’s Tony Stewart in his No. 14 Bass Pro Shops/Mobil 1 Chevrolet SS, who collected fourth place, his best in the 2014 season thus far, after a leg injury in mid-2013.

Kasey Kahne hasn’t shocked fans so far this season, or battled inside the top five every lap; however, he’s been consistent, very consistent.

Rain was the name of the game Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway. It delayed the start of the race and went on to cause much more havoc when it brought the entire day to an end. When the skies opened up with two laps remaining, it was Carl Edwards leading the way after strategy paved his way to victory lane.

“I’d say 500 laps is gonna be a lot longer than I thought it was gonna be around here, but Todd Gordon and the guys are putting a plan together. There’s so much load here and the car is pressing so hard down on the race track that it makes it so hard to steer. It feels like it’s working against you."

“It was a great night for Roush Fenway and for all the guys in the shop. They worked hard all winter and they got the result from it tonight that they deserved."
