NASCAR Cup Series

The No. 15 5-hour ENERGY team will be featured in the ABC television special Catching Speed presented by John Deere that airs at 2 p.m. ET Sunday. The show features the Michael Waltrip Racing team as it prepares for The Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway—one of NASCAR’s most prestigious races.

Johnson finished second at Bristol and clinched a spot in the Chase For The Cup. He moved up two places to second in the Sprint Cup point standings, 11 behind Greg Biffle.

STILL LOOKING FOR THAT “WIN AND IN”: Despite coming home with a solid eighth-place finish and leading the most laps in last Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway, Joey Logano is still looking for his second win of the season to help propel him into the Chase for the Sprint Cup. With the two “wild card” spots still up for grabs, Logano’s Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch holds the second and final spot into the playoffs.

Greg Biffle heads to Atlanta Motor Speedway Sunday night as the current NASCAR Sprint Cup series points leader and with a clinched spot in the 2012 Chase. Biffle was subject of the weekly NASCAR teleconference and looked ahead to this weekend and his title chances.

Biffle on racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway: “Atlanta is a fun race track. It’s a 1.5-mile track, but it’s different than a lot of the 1.5-mile tracks we go to. It still has old pavement, when it seems like everywhere we go has new pavement. It’s that old Atlanta where you have issues with tires not having enough grip and I like it."

NASCAR fans can go behind-the-scenes with NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Clint Bowyer and the Michael Waltrip Racing team in a one-hour special program airing Sunday, Sept. 2, at 2 p.m. ET on ABC.

Mark Martin has proven his driving skills are as good as ever in 2012 as he celebrates his 30th-year in NASCAR Sprint Cup racing. The 53-year-old owns four poles—the most of any driver— while appearing in just 15 races this season. He’s led 133 laps and has raced in the top 10 in nearly every race he’s entered.

On November 15, 1992, Jeff Gordon made his debut in NASCAR's premier division at Atlanta Motor Speedway in the No. 24 DuPont Automotive Finishes Chevrolet. Now, four championships, 86 victories and nearly 20 years later, Gordon returns to the site of his first start - a race marked by "The King" Richard Petty's final start and a tight championship battle won by owner/driver Alan Kulwicki.

Lord, I wish to give thanks for the return of Bristol to being Bristol. I don't know if the shaving down of the track made the difference, but something was different from what we saw in the spring. There was action that kept you watching, and I'm not just talking about the one's that gave the bodymen and mechanics some extra work.
