As the NASCAR schedule hits its West Coast swing, seven-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson stopped into the Valley of the Sun today to visit with 970 young and vibrant fans at Estrella Vista STEM Academy in Avondale, AZ, ahead of the TicketGuardian 500 at ISM Raceway. Today, Mars, Incorporated announced a multi-year extension to its partnership with Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), that will see the confectionery giant continue to serve as the primary sponsor of the No. 18 M&M’S® Toyota in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. The relationship, one of the longest and most successful in the sport, will continue the unmatched success the partners have seen together both on and off the track.

Phase Two of NASCAR’s new intermediate track handling package for Monster Energy Cup Series cars kicks in this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and Paul Menard and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane team are among those wondering how the racing will be once a full field of cars is on the track.

Chase Elliott on racing at Las Vegas: "We haven’t had the best result at Vegas the last few visits, but I think we can go out there and have a solid run. Jimmie (Johnson) tested there during the offseason, so we will take a look at the notes from the test and try to go there and perform. The test was only 14 cars, so it’s not a full indication of what to expect, but it’s really the same for everyone as far as the unknowns. It’s going to be a good test because everyone will be in the same boat when it comes to track time and notes on the package."

Brad Keselowski won last week’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway even while fighting the flu. The Team Penske driver arrives at Las Vegas this week statistically fortified, at least – as the winner of three of the last six races there.

It was the final race of the 1992 NASCAR Cup Series season at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Alan Kulwicki edged Bill Elliott out for his first and only championship in a banner year for the Wisconsin driver.
