NASCAR Cup Series

Yesterday's STP 500 was average for a race at Martinsville Speedway. It certainly wasn't bad or one that I would include in my list of most disappointing races of 2016 (yet), but there wasn't much of the action or bumping and banging we have come to expect.

Camry driver Kyle Busch was victorious at Martinsville Speedway in Sunday’s afternoon’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race and claimed his first win of the 2016 season.

Ryan Blaney and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion gave the Wood Brothers a homecoming gift – their fourth top 20 in six 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup races – finishing 19th in the team’s return to Martinsville Speedway for the STP 500.

Just when it appeared that Martin Truex Jr. was heading for a late-race charge his performance took a sudden turn as the Furniture Row Racing driver went from running in the top 10 to an 18th-place finish in Sunday’s Sprint Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway.

One clock wasn't enough for Kyle Busch this weekend because he dominated and scored a second grandfather clock at the Virginia paperclip. The driver of the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota led 352 of the 500 laps on his way to scoring the victory in the STP 500 at Martinsville Speedway.

AJ Allmendinger finished second in his No. 47 Kroger/Butterfinger/Coffee-mate Chevrolet SS and led a parade of seven Team Chevy drivers in the top 10 finishing order at the STP 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Martinsville Speedway, the sixth round of the 2016 season. This was Allmendinger’s fourth top-10 effort and second runner-up finish at the 0.526-mile, paper-clipped shaped track.

Going into Sunday's STP 500 at Martinsville, Joey Logano is without a doubt the most overdue driver for a Martinsville win. Starting on the pole for Sunday's event, Logano has four top-fives and five top-10s, three of those coming in his last four starts there.
