LEGACY MOTOR CLUB™ IN ASSOCIATION WITH JIMMIE JOHNSON joins Extreme E to complete Season 4 line-up

12 February 2024, London: Pioneering racing series Extreme E is thrilled to welcome LEGACY MOTOR CLUB (LEGACY M.C.) IN ASSOCIATION WITH JIMMIE JOHNSON to its championship line-up for Season 4. The American outfit completes the grid for the 2024 campaign, which begins this weekend in Saudi Arabia (17-18 February).

Led by seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson, LEGACY M.C. will make its Extreme E debut boasting an all-US line-up and plenty of off-road racing pedigree.

With Johnson unable to contest the opening two rounds of the campaign at the first event due to a clash with the Daytona 500, US compatriots Travis Pastrana and Gray Leadbetter will be behind the wheel in the LEGACY M.C. ODYSSEY 21 for the upcoming Desert X Prix.

Jimmie Johnson, LEGACY M.C. co-owner who will compete in the series after the Desert X Prix, said: “The opportunity for LEGACY M.C. to field an off-road vehicle in the Extreme E championship is exciting in many ways. We are essentially representing America in this unique and very competitive series and we are committed to the challenge. I’m excited to watch our LEGACY MOTOR CLUB colours race on foreign soil for the first time while I’m in Daytona for the Great American race. I know Travis and Gray will represent us well and I can’t wait to see what they accomplish.

“Our goal is to learn as much as we can and see what the future might bring. The fact this series competes globally and focuses on sustainably, inclusion and equality really piques our interest. From a technical standpoint the changeover to hydrogen in 2025 is really intriguing and the entire motorsports community is watching closely. Personally for me as a driver, going back to my off-road roots and to the type of racing I started my career with is going to be a blast.”

Alejandro Agag, Founder and CEO of Extreme E, said: “It is fantastic for Extreme E to welcome Jimmie Johnson and LEGACY M.C. to the championship. Jimmie’s credentials speak for themselves, and we cannot wait to see him behind the wheel of the ODYSSEY 21.

“Jimmie is a proven winner and adds to our already healthy list of champions competing in the series. Racing in Extreme E with his own team is something which excited him, and it is great that Jimmie is also looking towards the future and our transition to Extreme H – the world’s first off-road hydrogen-powered racing series – next year.”

“We are sure that for the Desert X Prix that Travis Pastrana and Gray Leadbetter will be competing up at the front of the field, demonstrating the US’ prowess for exciting off-road racing. It is great to have further US involvement in the championship, especially with our first-ever North American event to end the season in Phoenix, Arizona.”

Ali Russell, Managing Director of Extreme E, said: “Welcoming Jimmie Johnson and LEGACY MOTOR CLUB into our championship for Season 4 is a huge coup. We are thrilled that the LEGACY MOTOR CLUB has joined Extreme E and we wish them the very best for the campaign ahead.

“Jimmie knows what it takes to win and he has done it all throughout his career, so we look forward to seeing him and his team mix it with the very best in Extreme E. Travis Pastrana and Gray Leadbetter make an exciting combination for the first event in Saudi Arabia before Jimmie gets behind the wheel as they fly the flag for the United States.

“North America is such a key market for our championship, so to make our debut in the US later this year in Phoenix for the 2024 finale, with LEGACY MOTOR CLUB on the grid, will be extra special.”

For the Desert X Prix, both Pastrana and Leadbetter will make their Extreme E debuts.

Leadbetter, 19 from Morganton, NC, started driving in the Championship Off-Road series in 2019 and was the first woman to win a US Pro Class Championship in the Championship Off-Road closed-course series, winning four races overall to take the crown.

In December 2020, she was the first woman and youngest competitor to win a Sportsman SXS race. She started competing in arenacross when she was five years old.

On joining LEGACY M.C. for the 2024 season, Leadbetter said: “I’m super excited and thankful for this opportunity.

“I’ve always been interested in Extreme E, but just never found the right opportunity to step foot in it. When Travis texted me last week that there might be a chance to race with Jimmie Johnson and LEGACY M.C., I couldn’t have been more thrilled. I’ve never driven these cars so it’s sure to be an adventure, but I will be in great company. This is a dream come true.”

Pastrana, from Annapolis, MD, is a true motorsports legend. He combines the accolades of a three-time motocross champion and a multi-disciplinary X Games gold medalist with a versatile and high-profile racing career, including a standout performance against Johnson in the thrilling 2023 DAYTONA 500. Throughout his remarkable career, he has claimed victory at the highest levels of competition. Pastrana has clinched seven championships across supercross, motocross, and rally racing, showcasing his exceptional talent and versatility in the world of motorsports.

Ahead of his Extreme E and LEGACY M.C. debut, Pastrana said: “This all came together pretty quick, but I’m really excited!

“I have quite a bit of experience in electric vehicles, although I’ve never been in an Extreme E ODYSSEY 21 before. I compete in a lot of off-road events and some desert stuff – mostly on two wheels – but this should be really fun for us. I believe in Jimmie Johnson and in LEGACY M.C. and all he is doing with the Club, so when he asked me it was a no-brainer.

“I’ve worked with Gray before and she is a huge talent, so overall it is just a great opportunity for both of us to compete in this championship series together. She’s the top female young up-and-coming talent in Nitrocross and has the speed.

“So hopefully as Americans, we will do our country proud and return home with a win and some smiles on our faces.”

And Pastrana has eyes on a rival already in the series who he is excited to do battle with out on track once again.

Pastrana added in jest: “I’ve never beaten Mattias [Ekström] at anything, and before he retires I want to beat him at something! With that in mind, I guess my two biggest reasons for participating in this event is to help out my friend Jimmie, and, for the first time in my life, beat Mattias.”

You can find out how LEGACY M.C. fare in their Extreme E debut when the 2024 campaign gets underway in Saudi Arabia this weekend (17-18 February).

Jak Crawford Joins Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team

Houston, Texas, USA (12 February 2024) – On February 12, the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team of Silverstone, England announced 18 year old, USA-driver Jak Crawford as the Aston Martin Young Driver. The F1 driver development deal comes on the heels of Crawford landing a new FIA F2 contract for 2024 with DAMS, the exclusive F2 racing team based near LeMans, France.

“Jak had a very productive four years being contracted to Red Bull, and we saw this move to Aston Martin as a way to put Jak into an intimate F1 driver development role,” said Rick Gorne, Crawford’s UK based motorsports consultant. “We believe that the road to F1 is evolving. We wanted smart, purposeful driver development with significant car opportunities and that is what Aston Martin will deliver for Jak.”

The program will establish, not only, a work environment for Crawford in the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One simulator, but also, critically, will provide the young charger with Testing of Previous F1 Car time, as well as multiple current F1 car sessions over a two-year period. Crawford’s role in the team will be varied including serving as a brand ambassador, as well as a reserve and sim driver.

“Jak made a very positive impression with his extensive work in the 2023 F1 simulator for Red Bull, and that was an important building block for this agreement,” said Gorne. “Jak has built up an accomplished reputation on F1 sim machinery as a very fast, consistent driver with exceptional feedback for car development. This experience has become a valuable part of Jak’s resume and plays a part in his new role. However, the first priority will always be on Jak’s F2 season.”

Crawford has recently completed his first year in FIA F2 with Hitech GP. In racing, a season is best judged by comparing teammate-to-teammate. In the case of Crawford in 2023, he won in every category: season ending championship order, head-to-head qualifying positions, race pace, points-paying wins, podiums, and poles.

“Jak has pure pace talent in any sim or car,” said Gorne. “There were only seven pole position drivers in F2 in 2023. Six of the drivers were in the top four championship finishing teams, and those drivers were in the top six finishing positions. Jak was the only other pole man.” Gorne continues, “It is a spec series, but we all know the teams are not equal. Considering this, Jak was an outstanding rookie in 2023 in our estimation.”

FIA F2 staged the traditional 2023 end of season test in late November. Crawford’s three-day test with his new DAMS team provided great hope for the 2024 season. The qualifying pace was evident and the race pace was even better. For 2024, Crawford will focus on second year consistency while attacking the F2 Championship.

New sponsors will be announced before the season begins. Combined with the new Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team announcement, the future looks bright for Jak Crawford.

Young’s Motorsports Tabs Mason Massey for Full-Time Truck Series Effort in 2024

MOORESVILLE, N.C.: (February 12, 2024): Young’s Motorsports confirmed today the signing of Douglasville, Ga. native Mason Massey as the driver of the team’s flagship NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series No. 02 entry for the entire 2024 season beginning with Friday night’s Fresh From Florida 250 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.

Massey has over 20 years of experience behind the wheel, launching his racing career at age five. Since then, he has garnered more than 200 feature wins, 11 championships, and 10 track records across multiple series, including the US Legends Pro National Championship.

Amongst the many Late Model victories to Massey’s credit during his tenure in the Bill Elliott Racing Development Program is the 2012 triumph in the Alabama 200. He eventually graduated to NASCAR in 2019, competing in the Truck Series before advancing to the Xfinity Series in 2020.

After part-time Xfinity stints in 2020 and 2021, respectively, the Georgian captured the attention of many with an impressive sixth-place finish in the spring 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series contest at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway in front of the hometown crowd.

With 32 more NASCAR starts to his resume since his first career NASCAR top-10 effort, Massey has landed with Young’s Motorsports, a longtime fixture in the Truck Series, hoping to impress and land the organization back in Victory Lane.

Longtime anchor Massey partners BRUNT Workwear and Anderson Power Services will serve as primary partners on the team’s No. 02 Chevrolet Silverado RST throughout the 23-race campaign.

“I couldn’t be more excited to go full-time racing with Tyler and everyone at Young’s Motorsports,” said Massey. “I see the work ethic in all the guys and how much they want it.

“I knew this was definitely something I wanted to be a part of. I also look forward to bringing BRUNT

Workwear and Anderson Power Services on board this year. We’re ready to kick the season off strong in Daytona on Friday night!”

Executives from both of Massey’s anchor partners echoed their driver’s sentiment.

BRUNT Workwear founder and CEO Eric Girouard commented, “We’re excited to be back for our fourth year supporting Mason and expanding our NASCAR program. Our company’s story and Mason’s story are very similar. From humble beginnings and blue-collar roots, we are building and growing together.

“Our group is pumped for the opportunity Mason has to compete full-time in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series with Young’s Motorsports. We believe that our brand lines up perfectly with not only Mason but also with Young’s Motorsports’ hard-working values.”

Added, Alex Field, vice president of operations for Anderson Power Services, “Anderson Power Services is super happy and grateful to continue to support and be a part of Mason Massey’s career. We have been a very proud partner since 2019 and look forward to the current racing year. We look forward to the years when we will be in a Cup Series race car and be side by side with Mason for the years to come.”

Massey, 27, will make his second consecutive Truck Series start at the 2.5-mile superspeedway of Daytona on February 16. Last year, Massey steered to a respectable and lead lap 24th place finish for Reaume Brothers Racing in a race that was shortened by inclement weather.

“Even though it was rain-shortened, I think getting a feel for drafting in the trucks was beneficial,” continued Massey. “Youngs Motorsports has a good track record on superspeedways, including two wins. I hope to keep that going and get a strong start to the 2024 season.”

For Young’s Motorsports team principal Tyler Young, the opportunity to welcome Massey brings a reenergized atmosphere to the family-owned organization.

“I’m really excited to have Mason full-time with our team this year,” added Young. “He has proven he’s the man for the job. We are working hard to make it a great year, and I’m looking forward to it.”

Massey is the second full-time driver announced by Young’s Motorsports in 2024. Last month, the organization announced the launch of its NASCAR Xfinity Series program with Rookie of the Year candidate Leland Honeyman Jr. behind the wheel of their No. 42 Chevrolet Camaros, beginning with Saturday afternoon’s United Rentals 300.

Faction46 to Debut at World Center of Racing

Thad Moffitt Ready for Daytona Return

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (FEBRUARY 12, 2024) — Faction46 will make their NASCAR debut this week at the World Center of Racing, the Daytona International Speedway. Behind the wheel, Thad Moffitt will pilot the No. 46 Chevrolet Silverado. Customers Bank will be the primary sponsor of the team in its much-anticipated beginning led by crew chief Doug George.

Faction46 is owned by Lane Moore, owner of Venture Food Stores, and has an alliance with Niece Motorsports. Moffitt said the team has worked hard in what has been a busy offseason putting the team together.

“We just introduced this team in December and now it’s time to go race,” said Moffitt. “It is a little bit crazy to think how far we have come in such a short time. We could not have done it without Doug’s leadership and the support of Niece Motorsports and our alliance. Starting a new team is not easy, but we had a great foundation, and everyone has done their part to build a fast Silverado for Daytona.”

There is no better track for Faction46 to turn its first laps. Moffitt has three starts at the track in the ARCA Series and one previous start in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series. Moffitt has a best start of second and finish of fifth in the ARCA Series and an 18th-place result in the truck series at Daytona.

“It may sound weird to some, but this really is a track that I’m the most comfortable at,” continued Moffitt. “I grew up here watching my grandfather (“The King” Richard Petty) and my uncle (Kyle Petty) and the rest of my family racing here. It’s just my DNA to be racing at Daytona in February. It feels good to make our debut here and start making our mark in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series.”

Moffitt and Faction46 will have plenty of support this week in Florida. With Customers Bank on the hood and sides, the team will also be sponsored by Clean Harbors, Safety-Kleen, Pristine Auction, Joe Jurgielewicz and Son – America’s Tastiest Duck, Induction Innovations, and Best Working Wipes.

Moore is thankful for the partners and the team who are ready to compete for the win on Friday evening.

“You only make your debut once and I know that everyone associated with the program is excited,” said owner, Moore. “I want to thank all the hard-working men and women who have worked tirelessly in getting this truck ready to race. We know that Thad will be in the mix on Friday night and make everyone on this team venture proud.”

The new Faction46 team can be found online at www.faction46.com and on social media on Twitter (@TeamFaction46), Instagram (@TeamFaction46), TikTok (@TeamFaction46), and on Facebook and YouTube.

Faction46 and Moffitt can be seen live during the Fresh From Florida 250 at the Daytona International Speedway on Friday and televised live on FS1 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Motorsport Photography: Elevating Through Effective Framing and Photo Editing

Motor racing is a thrilling spectacle of speed, skill, and adrenaline-fueled action. In the realm of photography, capturing the essence of this dynamic sport requires more than just aiming and shooting; it demands a keen understanding of composition and the finesse of photo editing. This guide will explore how mastering composition techniques and leveraging photo editing skills can elevate your motorsport images from mere snapshots to compelling visual narratives. Through practical tips and insights, you’ll learn how to convey the excitement and intensity of racing events with clarity and impact. Join us as we embark on a journey to unlock the secrets of composition mastery in motorsport photography.

Importance of Composition and Photo Editing in Motorsport Photography

Motorsport photography is not just about capturing fast cars and thrilling moments; it’s about telling a story, conveying emotion, and capturing the essence of speed and excitement. Composition and photo editing play crucial roles in achieving these objectives.

Composition is the foundation of any great photograph. It determines how the elements within the frame are arranged and how they interact with each other to create a visually appealing and compelling image. In motorsport photography, effective composition can capture the drama of the race, convey the intensity of the action, and immerse the viewer in the excitement of the moment.

Photo editing, on the other hand, allows photographers to enhance and refine their images, bringing out the details, colors, and textures that may not be immediately apparent in the raw capture. From adjusting exposure and contrast to fine-tuning colors and applying creative effects, photo editing enables photographers to elevate their images and create impactful visual narratives. If you need to resize your photographs, you can use a photo size converter to get the right size for your project.

B. Introduction to the Structure of the Guide

In this guide, we will explore the art of composition mastery and how it can be used to elevate your motorsport images. We’ll delve into various compositional techniques tailored specifically for capturing the dynamic and fast-paced world of motor racing. Additionally, we’ll discuss the role of photo editing in enhancing and refining your motorsport photos, covering both basic adjustments and advanced techniques to take your images to the next level.

By the end of this guide, you’ll have a deeper understanding of how composition and photo editing work together to create powerful and captivating motorsport images. Also, you’ll be equipped with the knowledge and skills to apply these techniques in your own photography endeavors. So let’s dive in and unlock the secrets to creating stunning motorsport photographs!

II. Understanding Composition in Motorsport Photography

In this part, we’ll talk about why composition matters in motor racing photos and give you a quick look at some important composition techniques. Let’s get started!

A. Significance of composition in conveying the dynamics and emotion of motor motorsport photography

When you look at a photo, how the elements are arranged within the frame can make a big difference in how it feels. In motor racing photography, composition is like the secret ingredient that adds depth and excitement to your images. It’s what helps you capture the fast-paced action and the thrill of the race in a way that really grabs people’s attention. Without good composition, your photos might look flat or boring, and you might not be able to convey the excitement and energy of the moment.

B. Key Compositional Techniques:

  • Rule of Thirds
  • Divide your frame into thirds horizontally and vertically, then place important elements along these lines or at their intersections. This creates a balanced and visually appealing composition.
  • Leading Lines
  • Use natural or man-made lines, such as the curves of the track or barriers, to guide the viewer’s eye towards the focal point of your image, adding a sense of movement and direction.
  • Foreground Interest
  • Incorporate objects in the foreground, like barriers or spectators, to add depth and context to your photos, creating a sense of immersion and scale.
  • Framing the Action
  • Position yourself to capture the racing action within the frame, using elements like trackside barriers or other cars to frame the main subject and draw attention to the dynamic movement.
  • Negative Space
  • Sometimes, what you leave out of a photo is just as important as what you include. Using negative space, such as empty areas of the track or sky, can help emphasize the subject and evoke a sense of openness or isolation.

Applying Composition Techniques on the Track

Here, we’ll give you practical tips for applying composition techniques during motorsport events. From observing the racing environment to experimenting with angles, we’ll help you capture the action effectively. Let’s get started!

Observing the Racing Environment:

  • Take some time to observe the racing environment before you start shooting. Look for interesting features, like corners, straightaways, or elevation changes, that can add drama to your photos.
  • Pay attention to the lighting conditions and how they change throughout the day. The angle and quality of light can have a big impact on the mood and atmosphere of your photos.

Identifying Key Moments and Vantage Points:

  • Anticipate the action and look for key moments, such as overtaking maneuvers or dramatic crashes, that you want to capture.
  • Scout out different vantage points around the track to find the best angles for your shots. Consider factors like elevation, proximity to the action, and background elements that can enhance your composition.

Anticipating Movement and Positioning:

  • Motorsport photography is all about capturing fast-moving subjects, so it’s important to anticipate the movement of the cars and position yourself accordingly.
  • Try to predict where the cars will be at certain points on the track and be ready to capture the action as it unfolds. This might mean panning with the cars as they race past or setting up at a strategic corner where you know there will be lots of overtaking opportunities.

Experimenting with Angles and Perspectives:

  • Don’t be afraid to get creative with your angles and perspectives. Experiment with different camera positions, heights, and focal lengths to find unique and interesting compositions.
  • Consider shooting from low angles to emphasize the speed and power of the cars, or try shooting from above to capture the full scope of the racing action.

Photo Editing for Motorsport Photography

In this section, we’ll walk you through the basics of RAW processing and these essential adjustments, so you can start enhancing and refining your motorsport images with confidence. Let’s dive in!

  1. Role of Photo Editing in Enhancing and Refining Motorsport Photography

Photo editing is like adding the final touches to your masterpiece. It’s where you can enhance the colors, fix any imperfections, and really make your photos pop. In motorsport photography, editing plays a crucial role in bringing out the intensity and excitement of the race, making your images stand out from the crowd.

  1. RAW Processing and Basic Adjustments:
  • Exposure Adjustment
  • RAW processing allows you to fine-tune the exposure of your photos, ensuring that the brightness and darkness levels are just right. Whether it’s brightening up a dark corner of the track or toning down an overexposed sky, exposure adjustment helps you achieve the perfect balance.
  • Contrast Enhancement
  • Adding contrast to your photos can make them look more dynamic and engaging. By adjusting the contrast levels, you can make the colors pop and add depth to your images, creating a more visually appealing result.
  • Color Balance Correction
  • Sometimes, the colors in your photos might not look quite right straight out of the camera. That’s where color correction services come in. Whether it’s adjusting the white balance to remove a color cast or fine-tuning the saturation levels to make the colors more vibrant, color balance correction helps you achieve accurate and lifelike colors in your photos.

Advanced Photo Editing Techniques

In this section, we’ll delve into these advanced photo editing techniques, empowering you to elevate your motorsport images with precision and creativity. Let’s unlock the full potential of your editing skills!

A. Selective Editing:

  1. Utilize adjustment brushes or masks to target specific areas of your photo for editing, allowing you to emphasize key elements such as cars or track features while preserving the rest of the image.
  2. Enhance the impact of your photos by selectively emphasizing important details, adding clarity, or adjusting contrast to make them stand out.

B. Dynamic Range Enhancement:

  1. Merge multiple exposures using HDR (High Dynamic Range) techniques to capture a wider range of light and detail, particularly useful for scenes with high contrast or challenging lighting conditions.
  2. Blend exposures to achieve a balanced exposure across the entire image, ensuring that both highlights and shadows are properly exposed for a more natural and visually appealing result.

C. Creative Effects:

  1. Add vignetting to draw attention to the center of the frame, creating a sense of depth and focus on the main subject.
  2. Apply selective color adjustments to enhance or modify specific colors in your photo, allowing you to create a more dramatic or stylized look.
  3. Introduce motion blur to convey a sense of speed and movement, adding dynamism and energy to your motorsport images.

Fine-Tuning and Final Touches

In this section, we’ll guide you through the process of fine-tuning your motorsport images and adding those final touches that will elevate them to the next level of professionalism and impact. Let’s put the finishing touches on your masterpiece!

A. Sharpening and Noise Reduction:

  1. Enhance the clarity and detail of your motorsport images through sharpening techniques, ensuring that key elements like cars and track features stand out with crispness and precision.
  2. Minimize digital noise, especially in low-light or high-ISO images, to maintain image quality and clarity, creating smoother and more professional-looking results.

B. Final Adjustments to Composition, Color Balance, and Contrast:

Fine-tune the composition, color balance, and contrast of your photos to ensure they are visually balanced and cohesive. Make subtle adjustments to enhance the overall look and feel of the image, ensuring that every element contributes to the impact and storytelling of the photograph.

C. Maintaining Authenticity while Enhancing Visual Impact:

Strike a balance between enhancing the visual impact of your photos and maintaining the authenticity of the racing experience. While editing can enhance the drama and intensity of the race, it’s important to ensure that the final result still feels true to the spirit of motorsport.

Some Commonly Asked Query on Motosport Photography

How Do You Photograph Motorsports?

Photographing motorsport requires a combination of technical skill and creative vision. Here are some key steps to get you started:

  • Choose the right gear
  • Use a DSLR or mirrorless camera with a fast autofocus system and a telephoto lens to capture the action.
  • Select your shooting location
  • Position yourself strategically along the track to capture dynamic shots of the cars in motion.
  • Use fast shutter speeds
  • Set your camera to a fast shutter speed to freeze the action and avoid motion blur.
  • Experiment with different angles
  • Try shooting from low angles to emphasize speed and power, or from elevated positions for a unique perspective.
  • Anticipate the action
  • Predict where the cars will be on the track and be ready to capture key moments, such as overtakes or crashes.
  • Practice panning
  • Follow the movement of the cars with your camera to create dynamic shots with a sense of speed.

What focal length for motorsport photography?

The ideal focal length for motorsport photography depends on your shooting location and the type of shots you want to capture. In general, a telephoto lens such as the Tamron Lenses for Sony with a focal length of around 200-400mm is recommended for capturing close-up shots of the cars on the track. This allows you to fill the frame with the action and isolate the cars from the background. However, if you’re shooting from a distance or want to capture wider shots of the entire track, a shorter focal length lens, such as a 70-200mm, may be more suitable.

What is the best ISO for motorsport photography?

The best ISO for motorsport photography depends on the lighting conditions at the track and the effect you want to achieve in your photos. In general, you’ll want to use the lowest ISO possible to maintain image quality and minimize noise. However, in low-light situations or when shooting at high shutter speeds, you may need to increase the ISO to ensure proper exposure. Experiment with different ISO settings during your shoot to find the optimal balance between exposure and image quality.

What is the best camera for motorsports?

The best camera for motorsports is one that offers fast autofocus performance, high-speed continuous shooting, and excellent image quality. While there are many great options available, some popular choices among motorsport photographers include professional DSLR cameras like the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III or the Nikon D6, as well as mirrorless cameras like the Sony Alpha a9 II. Ultimately, the best camera for you will depend on your budget, shooting preferences, and specific needs as a photographer.

RJ Hampshire Takes 250SX Class Win

Glendale, Ariz., (February 11, 2024) Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki’s Ken Roczen grabbed the Holeshot and never looked back, taking the win at Round 6 and becoming the fifth different rider to win in the 17-round 2024 Monster Energy Supercross season. It was Roczen’s third win inside State Farm Stadium and the 55,627 fans, a record for the series at the Glendale venue, went wild for the popular racer.

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jason Anderson took over second place just over two minutes into the 20-minute plus one lap Main Event and was never seriously challenged for the spot. Team Honda HRC’s Jett Lawrence fought hard from outside the top ten. He made up time on the slick track and nabbed the final podium position, and with it the lead in the championship points. In the Western Regional 250SX Class, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s RJ Hampshire took the victory, becoming the first repeat winner of 2024 in the 250SX class.

“I haven’t won much in the recent years so I take these moments in so much… My start was really good. I got a super good jump. I may have shut the throttle off a little bit too early, so I almost got swallowed up there. But I had the inside and as I went around the first turn I’m like, ‘This is what I need’… The track was really tricky, it just got so slippery. I made so many micro-decisions on the track in certain areas that I picked out; as I ran through some of the first few laps I just noticed some of the key spots that are really tricky and can really bite you. So I just managed the race the whole way… I tried to not look at the time, I just clicked my laps, lap after lap. My Progressive ECSTAR Suzuki was working flawless out here today. I haven’t done many changes at all and it shows. You know, I’ve got to give it up to my whole team, my crew behind me, Peyton at home, my family, Griffin this is for you. I’ve been telling him the whole time I’m going to bring some trophies home, and especially wins, so I finally did it and this is an unbelievable moment for us.” – Ken Roczen

“Oh 100% [I’m happy with a podium]. I’m really excited to walk out here with second. But at the end of the day I felt like I left a little on the table. I started riding tight there for a second, but, with how gnarly our class is, it’s pretty cool to be up here… Honestly this is one of my home races so everyone from the 505 out here, thanks for showing up and supporting.”.” – Jason Anderson

“[I] didn’t give myself the best opportunity to go on for a win today with just getting a terrible start. But it was cool to climb my way through. It was a cool accomplishment to catch and pass Eli… So it was a cool accomplishment and just happy I was able to fight back to a podium position. [The] front boys they were gone… so especially going similar speeds here you can’t catch up, you can’t give ‘em that extra gap… It was a good finish to get third, especially with how it started.” – Jett Lawrence

After one week off, the Western Regional 250SX Class racers were back on the track for Round 5 of their regional championship. Hampshire took the win after clawing his way up from a fifth-place start. Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Levi Kitchen led early but finished the race in second. Team Honda HRC’s Jo Shimoda took third, earning his first podium ride of 2024. The top three riders in the Western Regional 250SX Class, Kitchen, Hampshire, and Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Jordon Smith are now separated by only five points.

“[It was] a really tough day. Man, I had that case [coming up short on the track’s large double jump in the] first timed practice. Man, that hurt me quite a bit. [I’m] getting up there in age so those don’t go by so fast… [In the] main event, got a decent start, made those passes quick. And [then] just kinda rode my own race… You know [my win at] A1 was so easy, and then, you know, you have some bad luck… Man, we work hard and it’s awesome to repay this whole Austrian team with another win. We get six weeks off now [for the west coast 250SX Class] so I get to recover a bit, but yeah, so stoked! Thank you! Arizona was awesome to me, ready to go back home.” – RJ Hampshire

“[Regarding Jordon Smith jumping into Levi while the ‘do not jump’ lights were flashing] I don’t know. Like, that’s a bad situation. I feel really bad, I’m glad Smitty’s okay. But yeah, you come around and they’re blinking. I didn’t know if I could jump on, and he jumped on behind me and we hit. Luckily we’re both okay… That’s a weird thing with the lights and everything. I just didn’t want to be in the wrong, and get docked. Glad I’m healthy, glad he’s healthy, and yeah, stoked to go into this long break with the red plate, obviously.” – Levi Kitchen

“We’ve been working hard in the weekends with the team but the results sometimes [are] not showing… The main event [podium], I kinda got gifted, I guess, but [it’s] some kind of way to start my groove again… I missed the feeling [of being up here on the podium].” – Jo Shimoda

AUSTIN PROCK WINS HIS FIRST FUNNY CAR EVENT FOR JOHN FORCE RACING WITH CHEVROLET AT THE PRO SUPERSTAR SHOOTOUT IN BRADENTON

  • Austin Prock, driver of the Cornwell Tools Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car, in his Funny Car competition debut, took home both the victory and a $250,000 cash prize at the inaugural PRO Superstar Shootout at Bradenton Motorsports Park.
  • Prock qualified No. 1 Friday night with his fastest run of 3.825-second E.T. at 337.41 mph over the 13-car, invitation-only field.
  • Prock also earned a $10,000 bonus for qualifying No. 1 in the inaugural event after stepping in for John Force Racing teammate Robert Hight during the offseason, shifting from Top Fuel to Funny Car and making his class competition debut this weekend at Bradenton.
  • John Force, driver of the PEAK Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car, qualified provisional No. 2 Thursday evening after the first qualifying session of the event weekend with his pass of 3.849-second E.T. at 332.59 mph.

BRADENTON, Florida (February 10, 2024) – Austin Prock, driver of the Cornwell Tools Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car, raced to the inaugural 2024 PRO Superstar Shootout victory over 2023 NHRA Funny Car World Champion Matt Hagan with his pass of 3.845-second E.T. at 332.43 mph to Hagan’s 3.872-second E.T. at 329.75 mph.

Claiming the $250,000 prize and bragging rights, Prock showcased his Funny Car piloting prowess in his class debut this weekend after taking over driving duties for teammate Robert Hight in the offseason. Taking John Force Racing and Chevrolet to the winner’s circle, the team now shift their sights to kicking off the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season in Gainesville, Fla. March 8-10, 2024.

After qualifying No. 1 with his pass of 3.825-second E.T. at 337.41 mph over the 13-car, invitation-only field, Prock first defeated Alexis DeJoria in Round 1 Saturday, then owner and teammate John Force, driver of the PEAK Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car, in the semifinals to eventually take the win over Hagan in the finals.

“It’s unbelievable. I’ve just got to thank God above, Cornwell Tools, John Force Racing, Chevrolet, and all our partners that believed in us,” said Prock. “Get well soon, Robert Hight. This is a bad hot rod and I hope you’re watching, and hope we made you proud today. Jim Prock, my dad, Thomas Prock, Nate Hildahl, they’re all on top of it. It’s so much fun to drive this racecar.”

“I don’t even know if I will be able to put this into words until tomorrow morning,” continued Prock. “It still hasn’t hit me; it’s surreal that I’m even driving a Funny Car right now. I’ve got my grandfather’s 374, his number when he drove Funny Car, on this thing. We took it to the winner’s circle.”

Force, who was unfortunately forced to settle for an early day in semifinals, started the weekend strong qualifying provisional No. 2 Thursday with his pass of 3.849-second E.T. at 332.59 mph.

The big money and bragging rights event saw a unique format of not only Top Fuel vs. Top Fuel and Funny Car vs. Funny Car elimination rounds Saturday for the top eight qualifiers, but also a unique Top Fuel vs. Funny Car elimination format for those who qualified outside the top eight.

Brittany Force, driver of the Monster Energy Chevrolet Top Fuel dragster and No. 11 qualifier, faced off against Blake Alexander and claimed the Round 1 win with her pass of 3.862-second E.T. at 302.75 mph to Alexander’s 4.031-second E.T. at 308.43 mph.

In Pro Stock, Erica Enders, the six-time NHRA World Champion, kicked off her 2024 season carrying the momentum she finished 2023 with, taking home top honors and $125,000 after racing to the win light over Dave Connolly with her run of 6.531-second E.T. at 210.05 mph to Connolly’s 6.577-second E.T. at 208.81 mph.

Notes of Interest

● The 66th Daytona 500 Feb. 18 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway will mark Chase Briscoe’s fourth appearance in The Great American Race. The driver of the No. 14 Mahindra Tractors Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing earned his best Daytona 500 result in his second Daytona 500 start – third in 2022. It is his only top-10 finish at Daytona in six career NASCAR Cup Series starts at the 2.5-mile oval. However, in last year’s Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona, Briscoe won the pole led twice for a race-high 67 laps before getting ensnared in a late-race accident that left him an undeserved 30th.

● Entering his fourth season in 2024, Briscoe is Stewart-Haas Racing’s most tenured NASCAR Cup Series driver. With the departures of former Stewart-Haas drivers Kevin Harvick and Aric Almirola, who together combined for 1,286 Cup Series starts and 39 seasons (Harvick: 23 seasons and 826 career starts; Almirola: 16 seasons and 460 career starts), Briscoe is now paired with rookie driver Josh Berry, sophomore driver Noah Gragson and the returning Ryan Preece, who begins his second season with Stewart-Haas in 2024.

● Briscoe and his NASCAR Cup Series counterparts had a dress rehearsal for the 2024 season by competing in the non-points Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum Feb. 3 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Briscoe finished seventh in the 23-car field, picking up an impressive 15 positions in the 151-lap race after starting 22nd.

● Briscoe has made seven starts on the Daytona oval outside of the NASCAR Cup Series. He has five NASCAR Xfinity Series starts and one start apiece in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and ARCA Menards Series. In the Xfinity Series at Daytona, he finished fifth and third in the 2020 season-opener and August races, respectively, while qualifying on the pole in the latter event and leading a combined 27 laps between the two races. His Truck Series outing in the 2017 season opener resulted in a third-place finish, while his ARCA start in the 2016 season opener yielded a fourth-place finish.

● On-track action at Daytona begins with single-lap qualifying Wednesday night when the front row for the Daytona 500 will be set. The Bluegreen Vacations Duel – twin 150-mile qualifying races that set the 40-car field for Sunday’s race – follows on Thursday. Drivers in odd-numbered qualifying positions compete in the first Duel and those in even-numbered qualifying positions battle in the second Duel to fill out the remainder of the starting grid for the Daytona 500.

● Mahindra Ag North America returns for its third year as the anchor sponsor for Briscoe and the No. 14 team after extending its partnership with Stewart-Haas during the offseason. The multiyear agreement with the NASCAR team co-owned by NASCAR Hall of Famer Tony Stewart and industrialist Gene Haas will continue to feature Mahindra Tractors, a brand of Mahindra Ag North America, on Briscoe’s No. 14 Ford Mustang for the majority of the NASCAR Cup Series schedule. The red-and-black No. 14 Mahindra Tractors Ford Mustang made its debut in the 2022 Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum and then won in just its fifth race as a primary sponsor when Briscoe drove to victory on March 13, 2022 at Phoenix Raceway. The win secured Mahindra Tractors’ place in the NASCAR Playoffs and earned Briscoe the honor of being the 200th Cup Series winner in NASCAR history. Houston-based Mahindra Ag North America is part of Mahindra Group’s Automotive and Farm Sector, the No. 1 selling farm tractor company in the world, based on volumes across all company brands. Mahindra offers a range of tractor models from 20-75 horsepower, implements, and the ROXOR heavy-duty UTV. Mahindra farm equipment is engineered to be easy to operate by first-time tractor or side-by-side owners and heavy duty to tackle the tough jobs of rural living, farming and ranching. Steel-framed Mahindra Tractors and side-by-sides are ideal for customers who demand performance, reliability and comfort. Mahindra dealers are independent, family-owned businesses located throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Chase Briscoe, Driver of the No. 14 Mahindra Tractors Ford Mustang

What is your mindset as you begin your fourth season with Stewart-Haas Racing?

“I would say my mindset’s definitely different. I think all four seasons have kind of had a different feel to them, but this one I feel like is the one where I have the most pressure, and honestly it’s the most confident and the most excited I’ve been for a season. The mindset, honestly, is just excitement to finally get going. I feel like we’re in probably the best place we’ve been in as a team, and even the organization just has a lot of change going on, which is exciting. Just looking forward to see where it all goes, and obviously we can’t see where it goes until we start.”

As a kid growing up in Mitchell, Indiana, what did the Daytona 500 mean to you, and was competing in the Daytona 500 something you always aspired to do?

“I think the Daytona 500, for anybody in racing, it’s one of those races you watch the whole week leading into it. I remember always coming home from school and trying to catch the second Duel. It’s just a huge event, right? I would watch it every single year. Truthfully, growing up, I never in a million years thought I would ever get to run that race. It’s funny, on Facebook they have the memories and what not, and literally mine popped up and it was 13 years ago and I posted, ‘If you could win any race in the world, what would it be?’ And I said, for me, the Daytona 500 or Indy 500. But more realistically, I thought I would try to win this one sprint car race just because I never in a million years thought I would get to run it. I think everybody in racing dreams of getting to run the Daytona 500 and it’s definitely special every time you get to go there and do it.”

You’ve competed in three Daytona 500s (2021, 2022 and 2023). What is it like to drive in the Great American Race?

“It’s always, for me, one of those ‘pinch me’ moments the first lap or two. The prerace is crazy just knowing how many people are there, first off, but then even when you’re in the car and going around there, just knowing there are millions and millions of people watching the race on TV. I’ve made it a point every year before we take the green flag to look up at the grandstands to take it all in, just knowing you get to run that race. It’s super cool. There aren’t many races in the world that have that kind of feel and effect to it. Definitely a cool one, and I’m excited to run another one, truthfully.”

How important is the driver-spotter relationship at Daytona, and what kind of information do you need from your spotter when you’re in a 200 mph freight train?

“The spotter is the most crucial part when we go to a place like Daytona or Talladega, or even Atlanta now. For us, we really can’t see a whole lot from inside the racecar, so the spotter is the one guy who is trying to paint the picture of what’s going on and really is making the decision a lot of the time for us. You still have a decision to make, but he’s normally telling you kind of what’s the best-case scenario or what he would do just because he can see so much better. So there’s a ton of trust that comes along with that. Any time they’re clearing you with binoculars from half a mile away, there’s a lot of trust in that. The spotter is super crucial every time we go there and plays a massive role in the race. I don’t think you can go there and win that race if you don’t have a good spotter on the roof.”

Drivers are often asked about their strategy in a superspeedway race. But what strategy is there for the entire week of Daytona, where you want to show speed, but also keep a clean car through qualifying, the Duel and then, finally, the Daytona 500?

“The 500 is definitely a unique week because you’re obviously trying to keep your car for Sunday, but you also have to race that car before we get to Sunday. How your week goes, it’s hard, now, with how limited practice is. We won’t even get to run the car until we go out to qualify, so you don’t know if you even have a shot at the pole until we go out there. In the past, when we had practice before, you kind of knew what to expect before you went out to qualify, where now we don’t know. It’s kind of hard because you try to go all out for the front row, but then if you don’t get the front row, the Duels are an absolute handful and I think we had that happen last year. I qualified third or fourth and missed the front row, but then I started like 30th because of how we did in the Duels. It’s a hard balancing act, just trying to figure out what’s the best thing to do. Obviously, I haven’t figured it out yet, but it’s one of those things where you definitely have to try to make your car last, not only throughout the whole week but in the 500. It’s one of those races where you have to be running at the end, and if you’re just running at the end, you at least have a shot. Thirty other times throughout the year, just because you’re running at the end doesn’t mean you have a shot.”

You’ve got some new teammates this year in Josh Berry and Noah Gragson. After working the draft in years past at Daytona with Kevin Harvick and Aric Almirola, is there going to be a bit of a learning curve when it comes to drafting with Josh and Noah?

“I think there’s definitely going to be a learning curve. Luckily, we’re going to get a lot of practice to start the year between the Duels, the 500 and then also Atlanta, so we’re going to get a lot of experience here right at the get-go. It’s definitely going to be different. In the past, I kind of knew what Kevin does and how he pushes and what he does in certain situations, and the same with Aric. Me and Aric probably worked together more than anybody over the last two years on superspeedway stuff. It’s going to be odd not having those guys, but Noah is obviously a really good superspeedway racer, he’s won some races in the Xfinity Series, and Josh has obviously learned from the best guy, too. I think we’re all going to be fairly plug-and-play, but until we go out there and do it, it’s hard to say. Like I said, luckily we get a lot of practice at it and hopefully we can perfect it.”

Ford always goes into superspeedway races with a game plan, and they get all the drivers together beforehand to go over that game plan. Are you able to provide a glimpse as to what that game plan is and what you as an individual do to execute that game plan?

“Typically, the game plan’s always the same and that’s trying to get a Ford to victory lane, just trying to use our numbers to our advantage. We have a ton of Fords in the Cup Series, and truthfully a lot of really good Fords, so the more we can work together at a place like that, the better it is for all of us. It gets tricky sometimes at the end of those races, everybody’s just trying to do what’s best for them. I would say the goal of every one of those meetings is just to kind of drill into our heads to try to help a Ford win the race, no matter which Ford that is. It doesn’t always come out that way, but that’s definitely the goal and the plan in those meetings.”

The Daytona 500 seems to be feast or famine for you – a best finish of third (2022) with two other finishes of 19th and 35th. Is getting a good result at Daytona akin to balancing on a razor blade, to where if you’re too aggressive or too conservative, you don’t get the result you want?

“I don’t know if there’s any secret formula there. I feel like the first year I literally just kind of rode around and finished 19th, and the second year I was really, really aggressive and finished third. And then the other year I was a little bit of both, I was patient at the beginning and aggressive at the end and finished 35th. So I don’t know what that right formula is. It’s so circumstantial. There are so many different variables that go into it. If you’re just in the mix there, you’re going to have a good day, hopefully, at the end, so you just want to be there. It’s kind of been one way or the other for us. We’ve been up front, but we’ve also been in the very back, so hopefully we can end up in the front. It’d pretty special to have another good run there.”

Is the Daytona 500 a mentally exhausting race when you’re trying to figure out what to do?

“It’s hard. That race is one of those where there’s just a lot going on and a lot of different mentalities. Some guys want to be aggressive and lead the whole time, other guys want to just ride around in the back the whole time. The intensity of that race kind of goes up and down throughout. I feel like that race always starts pretty intense because everybody’s pretty amped up, but then we go through a long period of just cruising around, just trying to get to the end. And obviously at the end, it really ratchets up. It’s an odd race because you have some guys, too, that know it’s already a points-paying race and you’re trying to get stage points, and other guys are just trying to make it to the end. So there are so many different mindsets going into that race, but in the end we all want the same goal and that’s obviously where it gets really crazy. It’s a different race than any of the other 35 we have, for sure.”

Last year was just OK. You obviously wanted more. How ready are you to start this season and go into the Daytona 500 with the same amount of points as everyone else?

“It’s the one thing I’ve been the most excited about since June of last year. With our points penalty and everything else, we really weren’t racing for anything outside of a win. If we didn’t have the points penalty, a second- or third-place finish means a lot that day, but for us last year, a second-place finish didn’t mean a single thing. It’ll be nice just to have a clean slate again, finally, be racing for something every single week and where points matter. That’s something I’ve been pretty fired up about really the whole offseason and even the end of last year, just knowing we’ll be racing for something again. It’ll definitely be nice.”

SWAMP RAT ALLEY RETURNS AT AMALIE MOTOR OIL NHRA GATORNATIONALS WITH 5 HISTORIC CARS FROM NHRA LEGENDS

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (Feb. 9, 2024) – One of the marquee attractions from last year’s Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals is back in 2024, as the special “Swamp Rat Alley” returns to Gainesville Raceway on March 7-10 for the 55th edition of the race, featuring historic cars from legendary driver “Big Daddy” Don Garlits and others.

NHRA and Garlits, one of the most iconic drivers in drag racing history, again teamed up to feature “Swamp Rat Alley” inside the Hot Rod Junction. This year’s display will feature a pair of famous Garlits cars, as well as vehicles from “Jungle Jim” Liberman, Dick LaHaie and Ray Godman. The cars will be displayed all weekend at Gainesville Raceway, giving fans the unique chance to check out historic cars driven by legendary names in the sport. Garlits will also be on hand throughout the weekend at Gainesville Raceway to meet with and sign autographs for fans.

Included in the Swamp Rat Alley in 2024 will be:

  • Garlits’ Swamp Rat VIII: This was the first of Garlits’ Swamp Rats to run the legendary 426 Hemi. Driven by both Garlits and right-hand man Connie Swingle in 1965, the car was later lengthened and became Swamp Rat X before being recreated in its original form.
  • Garlits’ Swamp Rat I C: One of Garlits’ earliest cars and was uncharacteristically painted purple for a short time. In a time before Garlits burned nitro, this car ran on gasoline with six carburetors and competed at the 1956 Florida State Championship where it set low E.T. and top speed but broke in the finals. The car was quickly painted black and went on to great success.
  • Ray Godman’s Front Engine Tennessee Bo-Weevil Top Fueler: Raymond Godman’s Tennessee Bo-Weevil cars were mainstays of NHRA competition throughout the 1960s and one of his earlier Bo-Weevil cars won Middle Eliminator at the 1962 Nationals in Indianapolis. This car is the final front-engine Top Fueler campaigned by Godman and driver Preston Davis in 1971.
  • Dick LaHaie’s 1981 Top Fueler: The car, driven by Michigan-based great Dick LaHaie, who would win the Top Fuel world championship in 1987, was one of many cars that kept LaHaie’s name perennially in the NHRA Top 10 throughout the 1980s in cars that were wrenched his son, Jeff, and daughter, Kim.
  • “Jungle Jim’s” 1972 Camaro Funny Car: This ’72 Camaro from the legendary “Jungle Jim” was only driven a handful of times before the Funny Car driver sold it, but it was one in a long line of Chevrolet Funny Cars driven by one of the most popular competitors in NHRA history.

The “Swamp Rat Alley” section is a thrilling way to help kick off the 2024 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season and before the weekend starts, Garlits and the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame will induct its 2024 class on Thursday, March 7.

The 55th annual Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals promises to be one of the biggest races in the event’s incredible history. This year’s version promises 11,000-horsepower, 330-mph racing action, new faces in the pro ranks – like legendary racer and now Top Fuel rookie Tony Stewart – the Pep Boys NHRA Top Fuel All-Star Callout, pre-race festivities, and a host of events and action off the track.

Last year, Mike Salinas (Top Fuel), Matt Hagan (Funny Car), Troy Coughlin Jr. (Pro Stock), and Gaige Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle) all won in Gainesville and this year’s race will air on FS1, including the Pep Boys Top Fuel All-Star Callout at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday, live coverage on Sunday from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m., and continuing finals coverage at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Reigning Top Fuel world champ Doug Kalitta looks to keep rolling after winning his first world title to close out 2023, taking on Brittany Force, Steve Torrence, Antron Brown, Justin Ashley, Tony Schumacher and class newcomer Stewart. In Funny Car, Hagan is after his third straight Gators win against a star-studded field of Ron Capps, Bob Tasca III, J.R. Todd, John Force, Daniel Wilkerson, Cruz Pedregon and Austin Prock.

Six-time Pro Stock world champ Erica Enders will try to win in Gainesville for the first time, facing off against Greg Anderson, Aaron Stanfield, Matt Hartford and Dallas Glenn. In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Herrera is after a repeat win by knocking off the likes of Matt Smith, Steve Johnson, Hector Arana Jr. and Angie Smith.

The Pep Boys NHRA Top Fuel All-Star Callout is back to open 2024 as well, pitting eight standouts against each other in a unique, big-money specialty race on Saturday, March 9. Local standout Josh Hart won the Callout last year. Action will also take place in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, the Congruity NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by LearnEV+ and Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown to open 2024.

Race fans at Gainesville Raceway can enjoy the special pre-race ceremonies for drivers racing for the prestigious Wally on Sunday and the fan favorite SealMaster Track Walk, which benefits the Darrell Gwynn Foundation in Gainesville, as well as a ring ceremony for the 2023 world champs (Kalitta, Hagan, Enders and Herrera) and a flyover from the U.S. Air Force. The final can’t-miss experience of any NHRA event is the winner’s circle celebration on Sunday, where fans are invited to congratulate the event winners.

The Nitro Alley Stage is a huge attraction and the main entertainment hub in the pits, hosting Nitro School, the NHRA Insider Podcast, Shirley Muldowney Q&A and meet and greets. Marching bands will also entertain the crowd each day, including the University of Florida on Sunday. As always, fans get a pit pass to the most powerful and sensory-filled motorsports attraction on the planet. Fans can see their favorite teams in action and servicing their cars, get autographs from their favorite drivers and more. They can also visit NHRA’s Manufacturers Midway, where sponsors and vendors create an exciting atmosphere of interactive displays, merchandise, food and fun.

NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series qualifying features two rounds at 2 and 4:30 p.m. ET on Friday, March 8, and the final two qualifying rounds on Saturday, March 9 at 12 and 3 p.m. Final eliminations are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. ET on Sunday, March 10.

The first round of the Pep Boys Top Fuel All-Star Callout takes place on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET and the semifinals at 2:45 p.m. The finals are slated for 4:25 p.m.
