Notes of Interest

● Josh Berry heads west to the Nevada Desert to take on the first true intermediate track on the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series schedule for Sunday’s Las Vegas 400. The 33-year-old Cup Series rookie is no stranger to speed at the 1.5-mile oval, hitting the jackpot and visiting victory lane twice in his six NASCAR Xfinity Series starts there. In September 2021, Berry started 15th, led 38 circuits, and took the checkered flag 4.398 seconds ahead of runner-up Justin Algaier. Berry’s second victory came in October 2021, when he started 12th, led 65 laps and beat now-Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) Cup Series teammate Noah Gragson by 1.125 seconds. Berry added a pole position in his most recent Xfinity Series start at the track last October, leading 11 laps on his way to an 11th-place finish. SHR’s Riley Herbst drove to his first career Xfinity Series victory in that race. In his six Xfinity Series starts at Las Vegas, Berry has earned four top-fives and five top-10s, and has led 116 total laps with an average finish of 5.0.

● This week, the No. 4 Ford Mustang Dark Horse will don the iconic colors of Mobil 1 and Take 5. Mobil 1 has partnered with Take 5 Oil Change®, the quick-lube service that features a unique drive-thru concept that allows customers to never leave the comfort of their car. Mobil 1 is available at Take 5 locations nationwide, and the expanded availability of Mobil 1’s range of products is being highlighted on Berry’s No. 4 Mobil 1/Take 5 Ford Mustang during the Las Vegas 400.

● The Mobil 1 branding on Berry’s No. 4 Ford Mustang goes more than skin deep as the world’s leading synthetic motor oil brand gives Berry an added advantage. Mobil 1 products are used throughout his racecar and they extend beyond just engine oil. Power steering fluid, transmission fluid, gear oil and driveline lubricants from Mobil 1 give Berry a technical advantage over his counterparts by reducing friction, heat and rolling resistance. Mobil 1 is a sponsor whose technology makes Berry’s No. 4 Mobil 1 Ford Mustang faster.

● Last Sunday, Berry showed poise and resiliency during the 400-mile superspeedway-style race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. He started 14th and relied on new spotter Eddie D’Hondt to help him navigate the draft and the 1.5-mile oval’s unique configuration to make his way to the front of the field, evading several multicar incidents and fighting back from a two-lap deficit. Berry was closing in on the top-five in the sixth position in the closing laps when he was caught up in another multicar accident and was relegated to a 29th-place finish.

● Berry made 10 Cup Series starts in 2023 as a substitute driver – five for an injured Chase Elliott and three for an injured Alex Bowman at Hendrick Motorsports, then two in place of Gragson at LEGACY MOTOR CLUB. The first of those 10 races came in the March race at Las Vegas, when Berry started 32nd and finished 29th.

● Berry’s crew chief Rodney Childers has been atop the pitbox for 23 NASCAR Cup Series starts at Las Vegas. He directed a pair of wins (March 2015 and 2018) by retired SHR driver Kevin Harvick. He also is credited with three pole positions, five top-five finishes, 10 top-10s and 622 laps led. Two of top-10s came over the past four Las Vegas races.

Josh Berry, Driver of the No. 4 Mobil 1/Take 5 Ford Mustang

Will Las Vegas be the first true test of where teams stack up in relation to one another?

“Las Vegas is the first race we have circled as a company to see where we stack up with all of the work Stewart-Haas has done on the new Ford Mustang Darkhorse. We are excited to get there and see how we shake out.”

You’ve driven the Chevrolet version of the NextGen car and now the new Ford Mustang Dark Horse. Can you tell a difference in the two body styles?

“I think it is still too early to tell the difference. I think once we get to some of the intermediate tracks, I may feel the difference. I was really happy with my No. 4 Ford Mustang Dark Horse at Daytona and again at Atlanta, which is always good. We will see after Las Vegas.”

You’ve won twice in the Xfinity Series at Las Vegas. Are there lessons you learned in those races that you can take and use this weekend when you race in the Cup Series?

“Obviously, I think any time you go somewhere you have had success before, it gives you a level of confidence that is higher than a track you haven’t done well at. Having a race under my belt in the NextGen car will also benefit me and ease the transition there. Ultimately, the cars are a lot different, and the racing is a lot different, so we will have to adapt to that, but it is always nice to go to a place you have won before.”

Since you’ve raced in the NextGen car and the Xfinity car at Las Vegas in the same weekend, can you talk about the difference in the level of competition between the two series?

“The Xfinity car just handles different than the NextGen Cup cars, and the competition is a lot tighter. You have the best of the best racing every weekend and that is something that is an adjustment. These guys are really good at what they do, and we all have a spot at NASCAR’s top series for a reason, so adjusting to that is also something that will take time to get used to.”

Ford Performance NASCAR – 2024 Las Vegas 1 Advance

LAS VEGAS 1

Friday, March 1 — NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, 9 p.m. ET (FS1)
Saturday, March 2 — NASCAR Xfinity Series, 5 p.m. ET (FS1)
Sunday, March 3 — NASCAR Cup Series, 3:30 p.m. ET (FOX)

NASCAR heads west for the next two weeks with Las Vegas Motor Speedway getting things started and all three national series in action. Ford has had a great deal of success at the 1.5-mile facility, which includes the first NASCAR Xfinity Series win for local driver Riley Herbst last season.

FORD UP FRONT

The new Ford Mustang Dark Horse has been a fixture at the front of the pack in the first two NASCAR Cup Series races of the 2024 season. In fact, Ford has the top four drivers in laps led and five of the top six. Todd Gilliland leads all drivers with 74, including a race-high 58 last weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. He’s followed by Joey Logano, who topped all drivers with 45 laps led in the Daytona 500, with 72. Austin Cindric (45) and Ryan Blaney (43) round out the top four with Michael McDowell sixth at 33. Overall, Ford has led 281-of-460 laps (61%) with 10 different drivers leading at least once in the first two events.

GILLILAND GOING STRONG

As noted above, Todd Gilliland leads all drivers in laps led after two races with 74. Unfortunately for the Front Row Motorsports driver, he has been involved in on-track incidents in both events and finds himself 32nd in points after finishes of 35th and 26th at Daytona and Atlanta, respectively. Going into this season, Gilliland had led only 11 laps total in his first 72 starts, but he’s been a fixture there to open the 2024 season, leading 16 laps in the Daytona 500 and then a race-high 58 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

VEGAS ONE OF LOGANO’S BEST

Joey Logano has three career victories at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and those wins have helped make the track one of his best statistically on the circuit. Logano sports a 10.0 average finish in 21 career starts, which is the same average he has in 29 appearances at Richmond Raceway. Besides his three Vegas victories, Logano has 7 top-5 and 12 top-10 finishes since joining the series in 2009.

THE LAST TIME

Ford has been on the pole in each of the first two races this season with Joey Logano and Michael McDowell flip-flopping front row starting spots at Daytona and Atlanta. The last time Ford captured three straight poles in which qualifying was conducted came in 2022 when Ryan Blaney went on a tear and did it at Phoenix, Circuit of the Americas and Richmond. Qualifying was postponed at Atlanta in the middle of that streak due to weather.

JOEY LOGANO: “Some of the big things at Las Vegas are just understanding the bumps down in one and two. What’s OK and what’s too much? Even three and four a little bit there. Restarts have changed drastically than how we used to restart there to what it is now as a driver, and really just the balance of where the car goes on the long run compared to what it used to be is different too. The details of where the car goes on the long run and all those things is quite a bit different.”

CHASE BRISCOE: “I’ve never been so excited to go to a mile-and-a-half in my life just to see where we’re actually gonna stack up. That was the weird thing with this year with just how the schedule lined up. We don’t really know where we stand as far as a company or anything until we get through Vegas. It’s one that I’m really looking forward to just knowing what I think we have going into that race, so it’ll be the first real test to see where we need to go to work.”

AUSTIN CINDRIC: “It’s kind of the first test on all of the work we did over the offseason, whether that’s within us just at Team Penske but also everyone at Ford with all the preparation that’s gone into bringing this new package this year. It’s really the first real competitive test for it.”

JOSH BERRY: “Las Vegas has just been a good track for me and I think just the first intermediate of the year is one we always have circled to try and see how we come out of the gate and perform. Going there and having a little Next Gen experience, having a couple wins in the Xfinity car, I think should be a really good opportunity for us.”

ROUSH RULES

There have been two RFK drivers who have posted consecutive NASCAR Cup Series victories at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Jeff Burton won in 1999 and 2000 while Matt Kenseth did it in his championship season of 2003 and 2004. In fact, RFK has been a force in both the NASCAR Cup and NASCAR XFINITY Series at the 1.5-mile facility. The organization has posted seven NCS wins and six NXS victories for a total of 13 overall, which includes back-to-back weekend sweeps in 1999 and 2000. In addition, RFK has three NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series triumphs.

SWEEP DELIGHT FOR KESELOWSKI

Brad Keselowski completed a weekend sweep in 2014 after taking the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series events on consecutive days. Even though Keselowski led the most laps in the NCS race, he needed a little bit of luck and got it on the final lap when Dale Earnhardt Jr., who was in conservation mode, ran out of gas on the back straightaway. That enabled Keselowski to win going away and post the first of his six victories that season.

MARTIN LEADS FORD CHARGE IN INAUGURAL VEGAS CUP EVENT

Ford took the checkered flag at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the inaugural race at the 1.5-mile facility on March 1, 1998 as Mark Martin led a manufacturer runaway that saw 13 of the top 14 finishers driving a Taurus. The win was the first for Taurus, which became the first full-time four-door entry in NASCAR, after Ford decided to use it in the NASCAR Cup Series starting with the 1998 season. Martin bested Roush teammate Jeff Burton by 1.605 seconds to win the Las Vegas 400 with Rusty Wallace, Johnny Benson and Jeremy Mayfield rounding out the top-five. The only non-Ford to finish in the top-10 was the late Dale Earnhardt, who was eighth.

HERBST RETURNS TO HOME TRACK

It was a storybook ending the last time Riley Herbst raced at Las Vegas Motor Speedway as he captured the first victory of his NASCAR Xfinity Series career in front of his hometown fans. Herbst dominated the latter half of the event as he won Stage 2 and led 96 of the final 97 laps to win by a whopping 14.959 seconds. That sparked a season-ending surge that saw Herbst post one runner-up and a pair of fourth-place finishes to close out the year.

MAJESKI MAGIC

Ty Majeski is off to a solid start in 2024 with ‘start’ being the key word. That’s because the Seymour, Wisconsin native has been on a qualifying roll since the end of last season when he started fifth or better in seven of the final eight races. That includes a poll at Richmond and second-place efforts at Indianapolis Raceway Park and Phoenix. This season has continued that qualifying streak as Majeski sat on the pole at Daytona and was third last week in Atlanta before leading Ford with a second-place finish. That gives Majeski nine top-five starts in the last 10 events, including the last seven in a row. He’ll look to continue that streak this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where he qualified fourth and finished fifth last year.

Hendrick Motorsports returns the No. 17 entry for an expanded Xfinity schedule in 2024

Photo by Patrick Sue-Chan for SpeedwayMedia.com.

Hendrick Motorsports will be fielding the No. 17 Chevrolet Camaro entry sponsored by HendrickCars.com for 10 NASCAR Xfinity Series events, an increase from the previous two seasons, featuring five accomplished competitors throughout the 2024 season.

William Byron, the 2024 Daytona 500 champion, will first field the HMS No. 17 “all-star” entry at Phoenix Raceway on March 9. He will also compete at Darlington Raceway on May 11, Pocono Raceway on July 13 and conclude the entry’s 10-race program by competing at Watkins Glen International on September 14.

During Byron’s four-race Xfinity slate, Brandon McSwain, a lead engineer for Byron and the No. 24 HMS team in the Cup Series who graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a mechanical engineering degree, will also serve as Byron’s Xfinity crew chief.

Kyle Larson, the 2021 Cup Series champion, will return to pilot the No. 17 HendrickCars.com entry at Circuit of the Americas on March 23 and at the Chicago Street Course on July 6 while Chase Elliott, the 2020 Cup Series champion, will compete at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 25 and at Darlington Raceway on August 31.

Lastly, Alex Bowman, a three-time Daytona 500 pole winner, will make his lone Xfinity start of the season in the No. 17 entry at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on June 22 while Boris Said, an accomplished road-course ringer with victories in the Nürburgring 24 Hours, 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring, will return to compete at Sonoma Raceway on June 8. Said, a former champion of the Rolex Sports Car Series GT Class, with a single victory across the Craftsman Truck Series and Xfinity Series, is also a partner at Hendrick Automotive Group’s BMW of Murrieta in Murrieta, California.

For the events where Bowman, Elliott, Larson and Said pilot the No. 17 entry (six races total), Greg Ives, the 2014 Xfinity Series championship-winning crew chief with 10 Cup Series victories, will return to call the shots atop the No. 17 pit box.

“The No. 17 is a big part of our story, and it would be special to see it win – and win often – during our 40th anniversary season,” Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports and chairman and CEO of Hendrick Automotive Group, said. “The sponsorship has been a big success for HendrickCars.com and our dealerships, and we’re pleased to add more races and take it to another level in 2024. It’s victory lane or bust.”

Hendrick Motorsports first fielded the No. 17 HendrickCars.com entry in four Xfinity events in 2022, where Bowman, Byron and Larson contributed to a combined two poles, three top-five results and 71 laps led. The entry returned for six events in 2023, where Bowman, Byron, Rajah Caruth, Elliott and Larson contributed to a single pole, three top-three results, four top-10 results and 68 laps led.

Hendrick Motorsports’ No. 17 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro entry is set to make its first start of the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series season with William Byron at Phoenix Raceway for the Call 811.com Every Dig. Every Time. 200 on March 9. The event’s broadcast time is scheduled to commence at 4:30 p.m. ET on FS1.

Business trip: Cadillac aiming for quick start

Successful Prologue for No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R leads into WEC season opener

LUSAIL, Qatar (Feb. 27, 2024) – Following a promising Prologue, Cadillac Racing enters its second season of FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) Hypercar competition looking to consistently challenge for victories.

The Prologue on Monday and Tuesday supplied additional motivation and confirmation for the No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R team in the season-opening Qatar Airways Qatar 1812 Km on March 2 at Lusail International Circuit.

Test sessions totaling 11 hours and 249 laps provided drivers Earl Bamber, Alex Lynn and Sebastien Bourdais and the team insights about the circuit and racecar that features the purpose-built 5.5-liter DOHC V8 engine developed by GM’s Performance and Racing propulsion team paired with the spec hybrid system.

The No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R recorded the second-best lap time (1 minute, 40.458 seconds) and was the only Hypercar entry to place in the top five based on lap time in each of the three sessions.

The team will continue to acquire knowledge and data about the 5.148-kilometer (3.37-mile), 16-turn road course that is new to the WEC calendar during three free practice sessions Thursday and Friday leading into qualifications for the 19-car Hypercar field.

Also new for the full season is two-stage qualifying for the Hypercar and LMGT3 classes – an initial 12 minutes of on-track running followed by a 10-minute Hyperpole for the top 10 qualifiers. Previously, each class featured a 15-minute qualifying, with the Hyperpole format reserved for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

“We’ll have a competitive package,” team manager Stephen Mitas said. “We made some adjustments to strengthen some areas. We have a new strategy engineer (Elise Moury) that comes to the team with a lot of experience. The core of the team is the same and for good reason because the team did a fantastic job last year. That continuity helps. The more you learn each other the easier it is to operate together.”

Highlighting Cadillac Racing’s inaugural WEC season was the third-place finish in the centenary 24 Hours of Le Mans. The No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R, driven by Bamber, Lynn and Richard Westbrook, started the season with top-five finishes at Sebring, Portimão and Spa-Francorchamps.

Bourdais, co-driver of the No. 01 Cadillac V-Series.R in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) class, adds another layer of experience to the program for the season-opening round. Bourdais, a four-time CART champion among other motorsport accolades, co-drove the No. 3 Cadillac V-Series.R to fourth place overall in the centenary 24 Hours of Le Mans, where he’ll return in June with teammates Renger van der Zande and Scott Dixon.

Mostly recently, Bourdais qualified second for the 62nd Rolex 24 At Daytona that secured a front row lockout for Cadillac Racing.

Working through delays

The No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R was among several racecars and equipment delayed more than 72 hours from arriving at Lusail International Circuit. A dedicated ship transport was diverted to the Port of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia because of the closure of the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait due to the geopolitical situation in the region. After clearing customs, trucks carrying the containers made the 16-hour drive to the racecourse and the preparation begun in earnest.

What the drivers are saying

Earl Bamber: “I think we’re definitely getting better operationally and procedurally, and it seems like we’re already more competitive than we were last year. Right in the mix, so hopefully we transfer that to race week. Here I’m just getting back in a rhythm because I haven’t driven the car since early December. (about starting season at new track) “It’s difficult to start the season off, but I think on the team side and Cadillac side we’re well prepared. The guys have done some good work through Sebring test and Daytona test and race that we’re using from our sister cars. A lot of our competition has already tested here many times so we’re playing catch-up. But it’s good to have these Prologue days to find our footing and get toward the front.”

Alex Lynn: “On a whole, we’re pretty happy with how we’ve done in the Prologue. The car is working really well here in Qatar and I think in both (day and night) conditions we seem to be there. Obviously, there’s a big difference between night and day. But whatever the conditions we seem to be really strong. I think the car is in a really nice place at the moment. The car has had a great start to its life; Daytona in January was a strong showing as well. There is a bit more competition this year, but in general we’re pretty happy and look forward to the race weekend.”

Sebastien Bourdais: “Difference between driving at night and day) “With all the lights they have, it’s like daylight. Usually, you feel a bit of a speed perception difference, but here it’s completely the same night and day. The difference is the grip – slightly higher at night with cooler track temps. I think we have decent grip. We’ve done some long runs and got some good wear measures. Now we can confidently start pushing on getting a bit more aggressive with the setup and see if it yields results. (difference between the GTP car and Hypercar) “The setups have evolved to something significantly different because the tracks are quite different, and you have to double stint a lot more. Overall, what Cadillac and the Ganassi team has done in the offseason and what has been shared from (IMSA) testing and the 24-hour Daytona race I think we’re in a good place.”

What Causes a Sprinter Van to Go into Limp Mode? Understanding This Protective Mercedes Setting

Imagine you’re driving along the roads in the beautiful country around Nanaimo, BC. You intend to merge onto Highway 19, but when you try to accelerate, your Sprinter van simply won’t give you the juice you need.

You put your pedal to the floor…and still nothing. You can’t even get above 80 kph. Your Mercedes-Benz vehicle is likely in what’s called limp mode. Here’s what you need to know about what causes this setting and what to do if the scenario above happens to you.

What Is Mercedes Sprinter Van Limp Mode?

Limp mode is also often called “limp home mode” or LMH. As the name implies, it’s a setting that makes it possible to limp home but not much else. Limp mode is used in other turbocharged diesel vehicles, but it’s most commonly associated with Sprinter vans.

The limp mode setting was incorporated into the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter as a protective mechanism. It keeps drivers from going fast or putting too much stress on the engine when there is a problem, thereby preventing overheating and other catastrophic consequences. One way it does this is by shutting off the turbo.

How Can You Tell If You’re Probably in Limp Mode?

Not sure if your vehicle is in limp mode? Look for these signs:

  • Inability to reach highway speeds (usually limited to about 80 kph or less)
  • Difficulty going up steep hills
  • Limited RPMs (typically under 3,000)
  • Transmission won’t shift into third gear or above
  • Sluggish acceleration and poor responsiveness
  • Engine whining or whirring loudly
  • Black smoke coming from the exhaust
  • Check engine light illuminated (flashing or solid) on the dashboard

You may see other alerts on the instrument panel. You may be able to restart the van if you stop and let it cool off a bit, but the same symptoms will return again if you try to push the engine too far.

Mercedes Sprinter Limp Mode Causes

So, what causes a Sprinter van to go into limp mode in the first place? As we mentioned above, this is a protective feature, not a bad thing, in spite of it being an inconvenience. There are multiple reasons why a Sprinter van may go into limp home mode.

Clogged Air Filter

This is the easiest thing to check first, and it’s a common engine problem. When your engine is deprived of air, it makes combustion difficult. And it affects the ability of the turbocharger to provide additional pressure.

Cracked Hose

Both turbocharger and intercooler hoses can develop cracks over time. Your diesel mechanic can check the latter with an intercooler pressure tester to find leaks you might miss visually.

Blown Fuse

Your air sensors need power to function properly. But a blown fuse can cut their power. Your mechanic will look for air sensor codes that can’t be cleared until the right fuse is replaced.

Faulty Turbo Actuator

Turbochargers function similarly to pumps, with fan-like vanes inside that move air. If the actuator that controls the vane system electronically fails, it can be replaced without having to replace the entire turbo.

Swirl Flap Problem

The swirl flap system is part of the intake manifold, but it can get gunked up with soot. Cleaning or replacing this part may be the solution.

Bad EGR Valve

The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve is part of your exhaust system. It affects emissions and also air intake. It may not be opening or closing properly, requiring cleaning. Or there may be an electrical problem, which usually points to needing a replacement.

Low Transmission Fluid

Transmission fluid lubricates your transmission components. It’s possible that your fluid is so low that the limp mode gets triggered, preventing you from upshifting into third gear. Occasionally, the clutch may also be to blame in manual transmission vehicles.

Other Possible Problems

Some other potential issues with the van that appear less often could be:

  • Worn or damaged catalytic converter
  • Faulty oxygen sensor
  • Bad mass air flow (MAF) sensor
  • Worn transmission gears

You Have a Sprinter Van Stuck in Limp Mode: Now What?

It’s important to get your Sprinter van to your mechanic if you believe you’re in limp mode or if one of your fleet vehicles shows signs. Do not attempt to keep driving for days in limp mode.

You may be able to drive to your diesel garage if you’re not too far away. But if you’re any distance from the shop, it’s best to arrange for a tow, especially if the check engine light is flashing, not solid.

Your mechanic can run the computer codes for your Sprinter van and get to the bottom of what’s going on. It’s possible that you’re not actually in limp mode and have another problem. Either way, the shop can diagnose and fix your van and get you back on the road again safely.

USANA to Sponsor Corey LaJoie, Spire Motorsports at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Feb. 27, 2024) – USANA, a leader in global nutrition and the Official Supplement Provider for Spire Motorsports, will serve as the primary sponsor for Corey LaJoie’s No. 7 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in Sunday’s Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS).

USANA has been an active partner with Spire Motorsports since 2021 and the Pennzoil 400 will mark the first time the award-winning nutritional supplement provider will be showcased in the primary position aboard LaJoie’s No. 7 Chevy.

“More professional and Olympic athletes trust USANA than any other nutritional supplement in the world and partnering with Spire Motorsports was a no brainer for us,” said Brent Neidig, USANA Chief Commercial Officer. “The training that goes into being a professional driver is intense. These drivers are elite athletes and have to be at the top of their game mentally and physically to be able to control the speed and weight of these cars and require proper nutrition to perform at their best. We look forward to cheering their drivers on and seeing the number 7 car representing USANA on the track this weekend.”

In 12 previous starts at 1.5-mile Las Vegas oval, LaJoie has logged five top-20 finishes, including a series/venue-best 15th-place effort in March 2022. He’s completed 2,881 of 3,221 (89.4 percent) of the laps contested over that stretch and earned a 24.8 average finish. In the NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) most recent visit to LVMS, LaJoie started 28th and finished 19th.

The Concord, N.C., native is currently 12th in the NCS championship point standings following the first two races of the season. LaJoie finished fourth in the Daytona 500 and overcame late-race damage last weekend to finish 13th at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Announces Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America Driver Lineup for 2024

(Indianapolis, Ind.) February 27, 2024 — Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti (WTRAndretti) is proud to announce its return to the Lamborghini Super Trofeo (LST) grid with four LST Huracán entries, driven by a stable of seven drivers, over three classes that comprise the 2024 North America Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo championship season. Stalwart series supporter for over 10 years, Lamborghini Palm Beach will once again act as dealer support for the WTRAndretti stable. WTRAndretti will announce the drivers for their fourth entry in the coming weeks.

Reigning PRO class champion Danny Formal returns to the cockpit of the No. 1 WTRAndretti Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo for his fourth year, and in 2024, will share the cockpit duties with 2023 WTRAndretti teammate, Ryan Norman. In his run to the 2023 PRO championship, Formal and co-driver Kyle Marcelli, captured a record-setting ten wins, nine poles and 12 podiums. This season, Formal, alongside Marcelli, will also compete in the No. 45 DEX Imaging Lamborghini GT3 EVO2 in the GTD category of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Ryan Norman is looking forward to climbing into the cockpit of the No. 1 WTRAndretti Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo with Formal and hopes to capitalize on his own and the team’s PRO success in recent years. In 2023, Norman continually nipped at the heels of the No. 1 entry and his consistency earned him Vice Champion of the PRO Class title as well as two wins, three poles and ten podium finishes. Norman and Formal look to continue the team’s momentum and bring home the Championship for the third year in a row.

In the PRO|AM class, Nate Stacy and Nick Persing will once again team up in the No. 8 WTRAndretti Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo. In 2023, Stacy juggled the responsibilities of the cockpit solo, switching back and forth from the PRO class to the PRO|AM class as Persing, who was locking down his own 2023 Radical Pro 1500 Championship title, had two race weekend conflicts. Despite the shuffle, the duo made their mark with two wins, two poles and five podiums in the PRO|AM class while Stacy secured a PRO class podium on his own.

In 2024, Doyle steps up to the AM class in the series in his No. 10 DEX Imaging LST as well as will expand his sportscar racing resume as the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup co-driver in the No. 45 DEX Imaging Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship series. In his rookie debut last season in the LB Cup Class of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America series, Graham Doyle exemplified the true essence of the WTRAndretti Driver Development program. The 18-year-old was able to contend for podiums straight out of the box and went on to win four races, four poles and eight podiums on his way to become the 2023 Vice Champion in the LB Cup category. Doyle also received 2023 World Finals accolades with a LB Cup race win at Vallelunga.

The WTRAndretti stable kicks off the start of the 2024 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America season at Sebring International Raceway, March 14-15, 2024. The schedule continues onto WeatherTech Laguna Seca on May 11-12, Watkins Glen International on June 21-22, Circuit of the Americas on August 31 – September 1, and Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course on September 20-22. To cap off the Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo North America championship season, the field will head to Jerez, Spain, November 21 – 24, for the final round of North America competition and the World Finals.
Ryan Norman, No. 1 WTRAndretti LST (PRO): “I’m very excited to be returning with WTRAndretti in the 2024 LST championship. The team has become like a family to me, and we have grown together so much over the course of last season. I think the driver combo of Danny Formal and I will be very strong as well. We really pushed each other throughout the 2023 season, and it definitely made me a better driver. I’m confident we have all the tools needed to make a run at the championship and I can’t wait to get started at Sebring.”

Danny Formal, No. 1 WTRAndretti LST (PRO): “I’m super excited to get going, it’s my fourth season with the team. We have two PRO Championships together with Kyle (Marcelli) and it is super exciting to get going in the 2024 Lamborghini Super Trofeo season now with Ryan Norman – he was a huge star last year. He’s the only driver that took two wins away from Kyle and me, so I’m super excited to share the car with him hopefully get another championship for the team and get that elusive win that’s haunted me in the 2024 Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Finals. I’ll miss working with Kyle in Super Trofeo. It’s been a ride and we’ve learned so much from each other, been a role model that I follow and become a brother and a part of my family. Super excited to be with back with everyone in the Super Trofeo paddock and excited to help out the drivers. Super excited to see what Graham Doyle can do in a second season. Nick (Persing), Nate (Stacy) in their second season with the team are very excited and motivated.”

Nate Stacy, No. 8 WTRAndretti LST (PRO|AM): “I’m super excited to be back at WTRAndretti for the 2024 season with Nick Persing as my co driver. Being a part of this program is just amazing, with all their success they’ve had it’s a proven team that has what it takes to be successful. As for my expectations this season, I want to focus on consistency and being at the front every time I’m behind the wheel of the car. I can’t wait to get back after it now that I have my first season behind me, and I know what to work on and improve instead of jumping in and learning everything all at once. Thank you again to Travis and everyone at WTRAndretti for this opportunity and I plan on giving it my all to the make the most of it!”

Nick Persing, No. 8 WTRAndretti LST (PRO|AM): “I am extremely excited to be a part of the WTRAndretti Super Trofeo stable for the 2024 season. This will be my first full year with the team, and I can’t wait to see what we can do when given the opportunity to race for the championship. It was an honor to race with WTRAndretti in the first place and an even bigger honor to be welcomed back for a full season. I think the realistic goal for the season is to be consistently within the top three and fight for podiums and wins as well. The No. 1 car will be extremely hard to beat due to their high levels of talent and experience, but we will do our very best to capitalize on days where they don’t have pace or may have been unlucky. I see a lot of WTRAndretti 1-2’s in the future for this year.”

Graham Doyle, No. 10 DEX Imaging WTRAndretti LST (AM): “Being a part of this team for my second season of Super Trofeo is something truly special for me. Joining Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti last year, I immediately became a part of the family, not only becoming a part of a truly amazing team but becoming a member of a growing family with a devoted team dedicated to the growth and success of their drivers. In my first season I was able to grow and develop as a driver earning my first win and fighting for a championship. Going into my second season as a part of the AM class, I hope to continue to grow as a driver and contend for wins in my second season.”

Faction46 Partners with South Point Casino

Thad Moffitt to Race Casino Colors Friday in Las Vegas

SALISBURY, N.C. (FEBRUARY 27, 2024) — Known as where the racers stay, Faction46 will have South Point Casino ride with NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series rookie Thad Moffitt this Friday at the Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway. The popular casino owned by the Gaughan family has been a staple in the NASCAR community for years and it’s where the majority of teams, media, and industry stakeholders stay while in Las Vegas.

“We are proud to be representing South Point Casino on our truck this weekend,” said Faction46 owner, Lane Moore. “This is such a familiar scheme that has raced in the NASCAR Cup, Xfinity, and Truck Series throughout the years. We are proud to join the family of racers who enjoy South Point Casino while visiting Las Vegas.”

With the new colors, Moffitt is ready to race at his first mile-and-a-half of the season. Moffitt has one previous start at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series in 2022. He is ready to make his return this Friday.

“There are only a few teams who came out of Daytona and Atlanta really happy,” said Moffitt. “We have some work to do, but we’re happy that we’re going to an intermediate track where we won’t be stacked on top of each other. We will still be drafting in Las Vegas, but we won’t be reliant as much on having a push. We can make the difference behind the wheel and with our trucks handling.”

Moffitt knows that the setup is where Faction46 can shine with veteran crew chief Doug George.

“We showed that we had a lot of speed in our trucks at Daytona and Atlanta,” continued Moffitt. “Going into Las Vegas, these intermediate races are where handling, setup and strategy are so important. Having a veteran like Doug lead a new team, we just know that we’re going to come out of the box with a well-prepared hot rod and be ready to race. I’m looking forward to Friday night.”

Faction46 and Moffitt can be seen during the Victoria’s Voice Foundation on Friday night live on FS1 at 9:00 p.m. ET.

The new Faction46 team can be found online at www.faction46.com and on social media on Twitter (@TeamFaction46), Instagram (@TeamFaction46), TikTok (@TeamFaction46), and on Facebook and YouTube.

Optimistic Outlook for Vixen Motorcycle and LTK After Setbacks at Sebring Trans Am Weekend

Sebring, FLORIDA – February 27, 2024 – It was a bright weekend heading into the Sebring Trans Am SpeedTour for Vixen Motorcycle and LTK as driver Tom Sheehan was mentally and physically prepared for the high octane start of 2024 competition. It was Round 1 of the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series presented by Pirelli with 38 roaring machines taking the green flag on Saturday.

The official practice session at Sebring International Raceway saw promising pace for the No. 97 Vixen Motorcycle LTK Mustang. The Mike Cope team were making strides with excellent teamwork in the ready for qualifications.

“We went out for qualifying and that was a mess. A car behind us on the grid speared me,” says Tom Sheehan. “To blast through the grid order while we were scuffing our tires just out of the pits, it was unforgivable. I don’t accept being a victim very well. We suffered heavy damage. The car had a bent wheel and suspension, pretty disappointing.”

Sheehan and Vixen Motorcycle LTK Mustang were P25 on Saturday’s CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 feature race grid at Sebring International Raceway. The Mike Cope crew put in a proud effort to get the car ready for 100-miles of combat.

Catching up with Tom after the event, his comments on the circumstances that unfolded in the race:

“Initially, the 97 fired off pretty good, we drove back up to our pace in the grid. The car just had a mechanical failure that ended up being terminal for our ’24 debut. It’s not the way we wanted to start our season.”

The MAVTV on-board broadcast video from Tom’s car was evident of the challenges that were untimely for him and the team. Tom added, “It’s not the way you want to make it on the broadcast, disappointing outcome for the team, tough day.”

“The highlight actually was a young fan who wanted a picture with me. I was just lamenting my bad fortune, standing behind my crippled car out the race, when he changed the vibe from “all was lost” to “I am blessed” and that was pretty cool. The young man had so many car pics on his phone, he didn’t have and memory space for the new selfie we were posing for. So he was scrolling through his day at the track looking for a memory he wanted to delete, I told him it was a tough decision. I was completely relieved of my disappointment and enjoyed the moment. It was great. His mom finally saved us both and got the picture. I will remember that moment, and I will forget the rest of the day.”

NASCAR’s Kyle Petty will lead 150 motorcycles more than 2,100 miles on a week-long trek from South Dakota to North Carolina, ending at Victory Junction to celebrate the camp’s 20th anniversary

CHARLOTTE, N.C., February 27, 2024 – Former NASCAR driver and racing analyst Kyle Petty is hitting the open road once again to lead the 28th Anniversary Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America – one of the most popular charity rides in the country. From May 4 – 10, 2024, Petty will lead 150 motorcycles across nine states on a seven-day trek, covering more than 2,100 miles in an effort to raise funds and awareness for Victory Junction – a camp dedicated to providing life-changing camping experiences for children with serious and chronic medical conditions.

Presented by Cox Automotive, the Ride will kick-off in Deadwood, South Dakota, on Saturday, May 4 and will end in Greensboro, North Carolina on Friday, May 10 with a celebratory homecoming at Victory Junction. Cox Automotive is the world’s largest automotive services and technology provider and is a subsidiary of Cox Enterprises. The company’s brands include Autotrader, Kelley Blue Book and Manheim, which will host breakfast for the Ride at Manheim Indianapolis on Wednesday, May 8.

“Our team is beyond excited to host Kyle and the riders at Manheim Indianapolis for breakfast during their 28th Anniversary route,” said Chuck Werner, general manager for the Louisville-Indianapolis Market Center. “It means so much for us to be included in this inspiring event and we look forward to helping the Ride send many deserving kids to Victory Junction.”

Petty has a jam-packed route planned for the 2024 Ride’s 250 participants, including 30 new riders. In fact, Petty has coined this adventure “The AmerICON Ride,” to pay homage to the iconic American attractions featured on this year’s Ride. Some of the highlights include visiting Mount Rushmore National Monument, stopping at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, exploring Churchill Downs – home of the Kentucky Derby, touring the legendary National Corvette Museum, visiting Bristol Motor Speedway, and so much more.

Spectators along the 2024 route are encouraged to attend one of the Ride’s seven overnight stops or daily pit stops to greet Petty and the riders, purchase memorabilia and make donations.

28th Anniversary Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America Schedule:

  • Day 1, Saturday, May 4 – Deadwood, South Dakota to North Platte, Nebraska
  • Day 2, Sunday, May 5 – North Platte, Nebraska to Omaha, Nebraska
  • Day 3, Monday, May 6 – Omaha, Nebraska to Bettendorf, Iowa
  • Day 4, Tuesday, May 7 – Bettendorf, Iowa to Indianapolis, Indiana

  • Day 6, Thursday, May 9 – Bowling Green, Kentucky to Bristol, Virginia
  • Day 7, Friday, May 10 – Bristol, Virginia to Greensboro, North Carolina

“This year marks the 20th Anniversary of Victory Junction, so I immediately knew we had to bring the Ride back to camp to celebrate this incredible milestone. After all, the Ride has been there since Victory Junction’s inception, as a founding supporter in 2004, and has remained the largest cumulative donor,” said Petty. “From riding the Black Hills of South Dakota and crossing the mighty Mississippi River to visiting iconic American landmarks, we are going to experience some truly incredible places on this year’s Ride, but none more so than ending back ‘home’ at Victory Junction – where we can see so many deserving kids light up with happiness and experience the magic that lives at camp.”

Victory Junction has served as the Ride’s primary beneficiary since its establishment by Petty and his family in 2004 in honor of his late son, Adam. Since it first began in 1995, the Ride has raised more than $21 million for Victory Junction and other children’s charities. As a result, the Ride has helped Victory Junction mobilize resources to provide over 115,000 camp experiences for children of all levels of abilities who are living with complex medical conditions at no cost to their families.

Among the celebrities participating in the 2024 Ride are NASCAR Hall of Famers Richard Petty and Hershel McGriff; former NASCAR drivers Max PapisDavid RaganKen Schrader and Kenny Wallace; former NFL great and Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker; and TV personalities Rick Allen and Rutledge Wood.

The 2024 Ride is made possible by presenting sponsor Cox Automotive, as well as Coca-Cola, Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Dodge Law, Racing Electronics, WinCraft Racing, Petty Family Foundation, Headbands of Hope, Piedmont Moving Systems, Wiley X, Prevost, Blue Emu, Goody’s and Kelderman Manufacturing.
