Kaulig Racing took to social media to reveal its driver-crew chief pairing that features a full shuffling of crew chief assignments alongside new and familiar drivers towards its three-car operation for the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series season.

First off, Kevin Walter joins the Kaulig organization to serve as a crew chief for the first time in his career and for the No. 11 Chevrolet Camaro entry that will be piloted by Josh Williams in 2024. Walter joins Kaulig after previously serving as an engineer for JR Motorsports in the Xfinity Series and as a Cup Series crew chief for five races while paired with Michael McDowell and Leavine Family Racing in 2015. He spent this past season as an engineer for Josh Berry and the No. 8 JRM team. Like Walter, his driver, Williams, is a newcomer at Kaulig, a team he joins after making 186 series career starts to date (2016-23). He spent this past season as an Xfinity competitor for DGM Racing, where he ended up in 21st place in the final driver’s standings and has both 11 top-10 career finishes and an average-finishing result of 22.7 to date.

Meanwhile, Alex Yontz will return to Kaulig for a fifth season as he will work atop the No. 16 Chevrolet Camaro entry team that will be piloted by veteran AJ Allmendinger. Yontz, a former racer turned crew chief from Walnut Cove, North Carolina, has eight Xfinity victories as a crew chief to date, including three this past season with Allmendinger twice (Circuit of the Americas in March & Nashville Superspeedway in June) and Kyle Larson once (Darlington Raceway in May) while working atop Kaulig’s No. 10 pit box. For 2024, he will be paired with Allmendinger, a 17-time Xfinity race winner who returns to the series amid a one-year absence, where he spent the previous season in the Cup Series at Kaulig and won at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course last October.

Lastly, Bruce Schlicker also returns for a fifth season at Kaulig as he will work atop the No. 97 Chevrolet Camaro entry team that will be piloted by newcomer Shane van Gisbergen. Schlicker, who holds both a Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from West Virginia University, has seven Xfinity victories as a crew chief to date, including five with Allmendinger in 2022 and one this past season with Chandler Smith that occurred at Richmond Raceway last April. The upcoming season presents a new pairing for Schlicker as he will work with van Gisbergen, a three-time Supercars champion from Auckland, New Zealand, who won in his Cup Series debut at the Chicago Street Course last July and is set to campaign in his first campaign within NASCAR’s top three national touring series for the 2024 Xfinity circuit. The Australian will also compete as a part-time Cup Series competitor for Trackhouse Racing, the team which van Gisbergen won with at Chicago.

The 2024 season is set to mark Kaulig Racing’s ninth consecutive season in the Xfinity Series and fourth fielding three full-time entries. Through a combined 524 starts, the organization has notched 23 victories, 15 poles, 121 top-five results, 274 top-10 results, 2,789 laps led. The team has also notched two Cup Series victories in a combined 158 career starts. Having placed at least one entry in the Xfinity Series Playoffs since the team’s and Playoff’s inception since 2016, Kaulig remains in pursuit of its first NASCAR national touring series championship.

Kaulig Racing’s crew chief lineup for its NASCAR Cup Series operations, including its plans for the No. 16 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 team that still remains vacant along for Jason Trinchere, who served as the crew chief for Kaulig’s No. 11 entry in the Xfinity Series, remains to be determined.

With Kaulig Racing’s driver-crew chief pairing for the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series season set, the team’s upcoming season campaign commences at Daytona International Speedway for the United Rentals 300. The event is scheduled to occur on February 17, 2024, at 5 p.m. ET on FS1.

The Impact of Excessive Speed on Road Safety: A Complete Guide

Speeding has been an issue on our roads since the invention of the motor vehicle, and unfortunately still remains a major contributor to accidents and fatalities. While speeding can be fun and exhilarating, it is important to know when speed limits are in place for a reason—safety! In this blog post, we’ll discuss what excessive speed does to your safety as well as those around you on the road. We’ll also provide some tips on how to stay within speed limits without compromising an enjoyable driving experience. Read on to find out more about the impact of exceeding speed limits variety of ways it can affect your life–whether it’s through causing or increasing damage associated with accidents or saddling you with traffic violations that carry hefty fines and other penalties–and get some advice for controlling your leadfoot habits!

The dangers of driving at excessive speeds

Speeding while driving can be a tempting habit, especially when we’re running late or feel that there are no other cars on the road. However, the truth is that this behavior can be extremely dangerous and have severe consequences. When drivers exceed the speed limit, they reduce their reaction time and increase the distance required to stop if necessary. In addition, higher speeds can exponentially multiply the severity of injuries or damage in the event of an accident. By respecting speed limits and practicing safe driving habits, we can help ensure that our roads are safer for everyone. Most car accident lawyers will tell you that the majority of crashes they see are caused at least in part by excessive speed. It’s a factor in about one-third of all fatal accidents.

We’ve all been tempted to press a little harder on the accelerator and indulge our inner speed demon, but is it worth the risk? Speeding can have serious consequences, both for you as a driver and for the people around you. Not only does it increase your chances of getting into an accident, but it also puts extra wear and tear on your vehicle, which can mean costly repairs down the road. Plus, driving too fast can eat up fuel and leave you with a bigger gas bill at the end of the month. So the next time you feel the need for speed, think twice – it might just be safer (and more cost-effective) to slow down.

How police forces enforce speeding laws

Speeding can be a dangerous and reckless behavior that can cause devastating accidents on the road. Police forces are responsible for enforcing speeding laws to maintain order and ensure the safety of all drivers. When caught breaking these laws, the consequences can vary from state to state but can include hefty fines, points on your driver’s license, and even license suspension. It’s important to be aware of the speed limits and adhere to them while driving to avoid any unfortunate consequences. Remember, the safety of yourself and others on the road should always come first.

Tips on how to safely accelerate on the road

When we get behind the wheel, we must prioritize safety on the road. One of the ways we can do this is by ensuring we accelerate safely. It’s understandable to want to hit the gas and get to our destination as quickly as possible, but we must plan for traffic conditions and maintain safe speeds. By anticipating what’s ahead and gradually accelerating, we’re not only being safer, but we’re also being more fuel-efficient. Remember, safety comes first, and taking the extra time to drive carefully can ultimately save lives. So the next time you hit the road, take a deep breath, maintain a safe distance from others, and arrive at your destination safely and efficiently.

What to do if you have exceeded the speed limit

Driving can be a stressful experience, especially if you find yourself faced with the realization that you’re driving over the speed limit. As panic may begin to set in, it’s important to remember to remain calm and take action. One of the first things you can do in this situation is to slow down gradually, as quickly slamming on the brakes can cause a dangerous situation. Additionally, you can try to find a safe place to pull over and park your car to take a moment to gather yourself before continuing on the road. Remember to adhere to traffic laws and safety precautions while behind the wheel to prevent finding yourself in this situation in the first place. Consider taking a safe driving course to improve your skills and knowledge of traffic laws. This can not only help you avoid speeding violations but also make the roads safer for everyone.

Benefits of sticking to the speed limit

Sticking to the speed limit not only ensures road safety but also enhances it. By sticking to the speed limit, you help maintain a safer driving environment for yourself and those around you. Additionally, sticking to the speed limit can also improve the fuel efficiency of your vehicle. The faster you go, the more fuel your vehicle consumes, meaning you spend more money on gas. But if you maintain a moderate speed limit, you can save money on fuel in the long run. Finally, adhering to the speed limit can also lead to lower insurance premiums. When you drive safely and responsibly, insurance companies are more likely to offer you lower rates. So next time you’re on the road, consider the benefits of sticking to the speed limit and help create a safer, more responsible driving culture.

Driving at excessive speeds has considerable risks and consequences, from increased accident rates to higher fuel costs. To ensure maximum safety on the roads as well as reduced insurance premiums, it is best to stick to posted speed limits and stay within them. Driving safely may take a bit more thought and effort but can be easily achieved with the right planning, being mindful of road conditions, and keeping a check on your speed. If you find yourself in a situation where you have exceeded the speed limit or are in danger of doing so, turn off the accelerator and look for ways to slow down safely. Here’s hoping that these tips and reminders will help you drive safer both now and in the future – let’s make sure we all do our part for road safety!

Extreme H completes successful shakedown of its first prototype

19 December 2023, London: Extreme H has completed the first major milestone in its development, having successfully carried out a shakedown of the series’ first prototype chassis ahead of the launch of the new championship in 2025.

For the first time, Extreme H can reveal a teaser of its hydrogen-powered prototype which recently undertook its debut laps out on track during testing.

Ahead of the launch of the Extreme H chassis later in 2024, a rigorous testing programme is now underway to ensure the championship – the first-ever off-road hydrogen racing series – is ready for its debut in just over a years’ time.

Its current incumbent, Extreme E, was designed to be a testbed for innovation and solutions for mobility. The transition to hydrogen-powered racing and the Extreme H series is a natural evolution of the series’ overarching mission to showcase the possibilities of new technologies in the race to fight climate issues, support decarbonisation and develop applications outside of motorsport.

Extreme H cars will be powered by a hydrogen fuel cell from the start of the 2025 season.

Alejandro Agag, Founder and CEO of Extreme E, said: “Completing this initial first shakedown of the Extreme H prototype ahead of schedule is a sign of strong progress being made as we prepare for the launch of Extreme H in 2025. We are thrilled to reveal the first look at our hydrogen-powered concept, which we feel is going to be ground-breaking in motorsport.

“This a hugely important first step as we transition towards an exciting hydrogen future and launch the first-ever off-road hydrogen racing world championship.”

Mark Grain, Technical Director of Extreme E, added: “Preparations for the launch of Extreme H are well underway, and undertaking a successful first shakedown of the prototype chassis for the series is a critical milestone.

“It is has been huge team effort, and this first step would not have been achieved without the support from Spark Racing Technology who have delivered impressively. There is still plenty of work to be done ahead of the launch of Extreme H in 2025, but we are pleased with the progress of our concept, which believe will deliver strong performance levels and break the mould in terms of innovation not just in motorsport, but with potential for the future of mobility more widely.”

The FIA Formula One World Championship (F1), the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and Extreme H recently announced plans to establish a joint Hydrogen Working Group.

The group, comprised of representatives from all three organisations including Mark Grain, Extreme E Technical Director – who is leading the series’ transition to Extreme H – Pat Symonds, F1 Chief Technical Officer, and Nikolas Tombazis, FIA Single Seater Director, will bring together their collective expertise in a strategic alliance to evaluate developments and potential applications for hydrogen within motorsport and wider mobility.

Earlier this year, a pathway was established for Extreme H to become an FIA Championship from its inaugural season in 2025, with the intention that it will become an FIA World Championship from 2026, should the requisite criteria be met. This planned pathway to FIA World Championship status demonstrates the series’ progression since its inception in 2021 and a strong statement of intent for its growth towards its hydrogen-powered future.

As a result, Extreme H would join the company of just seven other official FIA World Championships, which put it in the same bracket as Formula One and Formula E in terms of motorsport recognition.

Vehicle outline

  1. The characteristically fun driving experience of a PHEV

2.5-liter Series Parallel Plug-in Hybrid System

  • Equipped with a high-output density drive motor, the Sport PHEV reaches a maximum system output*1 of 225kW (306PS) and, by fully utilizing the motor, achieves seamless and powerful acceleration.
  • A large-capacity lithium-ion battery has been positioned beneath the floor in the center of the vehicle. It provides a BEV-mode cruising range suitable for everyday use without compromising on interior space, which enables operation in BEV mode for most everyday driving situations. A fully charged battery delivers a BEV-mode driving range of 90 kilometers2 and a hybrid-mode fuel economy of 20.3km/L3. With a gasoline tank capacity of 55L, the PHEV boasts a total cruising range of 1,200 kilometers or more*4.

High-performance Technologies

  • Thanks to an E-Four electric 4WD system, the power produced by the plug-in hybrid system is fully distributed between all four wheels. In addition to achieving superior driving stability, it also has enhanced the sense of stability even when cornering or driving in snow or rain.
  • The Crown Sport PHEV model is based on the Sport Z grade, HEV model, but features added braces to the floor tunnel to ensure an optimal balance of body rigidity. The friction and damping force characteristics of the front and rear shock absorbers have also been optimized. In addition, by controlling the damping force of the shock absorbers independently for each wheel in response to road surface conditions and driver input, the Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS)*5system delivers a smooth, even, and planted ride.
  • Paddle shifters allow the driver to carry out smooth gear shifts with minimal hand movements.
  • The front wheels are fitted with 20-inch ventilated disc brakes, with the braking force delivered by exclusive 20-inch aluminum opposing six-piston calipers. Both front and rear brake calipers are colored red for a braking set-up that combines improved stopping performance with a sporty exterior.
  1. The characteristic convenience of a PHEV

Power generation and supply

  • The Sport PHEV model comes with a “My Room Mode” that lets users enjoy air conditioning and audio systems from the external power source by turning the power switch on during normal charging. Creating a comfortable interior space without running the engine, this feature turns the car interior into an additional room that can be used for teleworking, rest, or any other activities.
  • The vehicle is equipped with a maximum 1,500W (AC 100V) external power supply function as standard―useful during blackouts and other emergencies, as well as for outdoor leisure activities. In addition to an accessory electrical socket in the luggage compartment and in the rear end of the center console box, the Sport PHEV model comes with a vehicle power connector that, when plugged into the vehicle’s charging inlet, functions as an external power socket providing 1,500W (AC 100V).
  • The vehicle is equipped with both standard charging and rapid charging functions. The rapid charging function is capable of charging the battery to approximately 80% of its full capacity*6 in approximately 38 minutes, providing significant time savings over standard charging with the 200V charging cable.
  • The vehicle is also equipped with Vehicle to Home (V2H)7, a system that allows electricity stored in the vehicle battery to be supplied to the home, enabling the vehicle to be used as a reliable storage battery during blackouts and other times of emergency. By setting the rapid charging inlet to external supply function-mode (V2H-mode)8 and subsequently connecting the V2H device (sold separately), the electricity stored in the drive battery can be used as household electricity. Surplus electricity generated via household solar power generators can be used to charge the vehicle’s drive battery to achieve a seamless supply and demand of electricity.
  • The vehicle comes with both a BEV external power supply mode, which enables electricity stored in the battery to be used to supply external power for outdoor, leisure, and other activities, and an HEV external power supply mode, which enables the car to be used as a power supply during blackouts, disasters, and other emergencies. In the HEV external power supply mode, electricity is supplied from the battery only until the remaining power falls to a set level, after which the engine starts to supply electricity. With a full battery charge and a full tank of gas, this system can provide enough electricity for about 6.5 days of use*9. It also comes with an external electric power supply attachment as standard so that an external power supply is possible with the door windows closed to prevent rain and insects from getting in the car when in use.
  1. Sporty Credentials Underlined by PHEV-specific Equipment

Exterior design

  • The beauty of the Sport PHEV begins from the ground-up, with the use of 21-inch, large-diameter, wide tires and exclusive black aluminum wheels. The use of distinctive triple spokes and thin layered spokes underscore the vehicle’s sporty and luxurious feel.

Interior design

  • The interior of the Sport PHEV features a gorgeous black and sensual red asymmetrical color scheme for the driver’s seat and front passenger seat. This color scheme adds excitement to the driving experience and accentuates the individuality and sportiness of the vehicle. In addition, the combination of the interior fabric with newly developed luminous material has achieved both strong shading and vivid coloration. In addition, the front and rear seatbelts also feature red.
  • The vehicle is fitted with sports seats that firmly support the driver and which feature red stitching to enhance the thrill of driving.

GAS CHASSIS SPONSORS THE 2024 PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY YOUNG GUNS SERIES

(Perris, CA, December 17, 2023) When it comes to helping out in sprint car racing, Warner Springs, California chassis builder Stan Sexton is always ready to lend a hand. So, when he was asked if his company, GAS Chassis, would like to award the 2024 Young Guns series champion a brand new chassis, the personable car owner replied with a resounding, “Heck yes.” Thus, in 2024 the title for the group will be the GAS Chassis Young Gun Sprint Car Series.

The series, which was founded in 2013 by Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian, was initially for drivers in their teens who had never raced sprint cars before. Rather than throw them to the lions to get pummeled in the USAC/CRA series, it allowed drivers to race at a more comfortable level with peers who were also learning.

Several drivers who honed their skills in the class have graduated to higher levels of racing. The first series champion was Logan Williams. One year after his triumphant season in the Young Guns, he was crowned USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year. 2016 Young Gun champ Courtney Crone has been climbing the racing ladder ever since she won the title. She spent 2023 competing in the IMCA series at such tracks as Daytona and Lime Rock Park. She also raced at Germany’s famous Hockenheimring, and Zandvoort circuits in the German Prototype Cup series. In 2018, Eddie Tafoya was crowned Young Guns champ. The following year he was named Rookie of the Year in USAC/CRA. Along with Williams, he is expected to be in the hunt for the USAC/CRA champion’s crown in 2024.

The series has always been a launch pad, trophy-only class. In 2024, it will still be a stepping-stone division but it will have a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow in the form of a brand-new GAS Chassis for the champion. Coming with the chassis will be a body, motor plate, all of the aluminum and tin work, front axle, and radius rods.

“Initially when we came back after Covid, our Young Gun series was hurting,” longtime promoter Kazarian said. “2021 virtually saw one car in the class and it was that way for most of 2022. However, the series had a nice bounce back in 2023 with eight drivers. We think most of them will be back in 2024 and have already heard that at least one other car is going to enter the fray.”

“A huge thank you goes out to Gas Chassis owners Stan Sexton and Nita Gatlin for stepping up and offering a nice package for next year’s champion. In addition to advancing their careers, it will give the competitors something else to shoot for. As well as the fine prize, the Young Guns can look for an expanded schedule next year that will see them race 10 times. It all adds up to what should be a great season for them.”

For Sexton, it was a no-brainer when he had the chance to jump in. While it is a way to get his company name out, it is more about helping the sport grow and prosper in the future.

“I am doing it to help the young kids starting out,” the personable racing businessman said. “They usually use hand-me-down stuff from dad, grandpa or whoever raced previously if they have racing experience. You do not always go out and buy the best of the best to find out you do not like or want to continue racing. I hope it will help bring up the car count and have people competing for it (the new car). After they get their first crash and couple of bruises out of the way, they will have something of quality to really start building on.”

While he wants to help the sport, there is one thing he will not skimp on and that is safety. Sexton owns the car his son Shane drives in the USAC/CRA Series. On April 15th of this year, the promising young driver was involved in one of the scariest crashes seen at Perris Auto Speedway in quite some time. Competing in the main event that night, contact with another car sent the GAS Chassis #74 catapulting down the back straightaway in a series of violent flips. He gained enough altitude in the terrifying tangle to see what was on the other side of the track billboards.

While the crowd anxiously awaited, the driver known as “Shugah Shane,” climbed out of the car. Shaken, he was able to walk away from the crash. However, the chassis held up and had little structural damage. That was due to his dad’s insistence on safety.

“We use nothing but what is called German Standard Chrome Molly,” the elder Sexton said. “I have certified welders that weld everything. It is standard (for GAS Chassis) to have the halo and the outlaw bars. That is standard. It is not an option. I will not send them out otherwise.”

“The motor plates I have machined for me to my specifications. The tin work, I like doing all of the aluminum lower panels and other trick work like that. I have a machine shop that handles all of the billet aluminum pieces. The Dumas family has been long in the off-road industry. They have been doing all of my tig welding for me. Cory McClenathan, the former top fuel dragster driver, has been doing all of our fiberglass and carbon fiber body pieces. Of course, the carbon fiber is an upgrade. The fiberglass, he reinforces with Kevlar in the high impact zones like the crown of the nose and stuff like that. He has been helping us out and started his own business so we kind of partnered right away.”

The first chance for drivers to earn points toward winning the Young Gun championship and the GAS Chassis is under 10 weeks away on February 24th. Throughout the 2024 season, the GAS Chassis Young Gun series will be joined at every race by the Avanti Windows & Doors CRA Sprint Cars, PAS Senior Sprints, and PASSCAR Stock Cars.
