Wright Motorsports 1st Phorm Porsche Resumes IMSA Endurance Endeavors with Sahlen’s Six Hour of the Glen

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (June 21, 2023) – After a heartbreaking early retirement just hours into the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans in France, drivers Ryan Hardwick, Jan Heylen, and Zacharie Robichon are stateside once again, ready to return to the Wright Motorsports and the No. 16 1st Phorm Porsche 911 GT3 R.

“Myself and Bob Viglione were on site to support the Le Mans trio as they raced in the 100th Anniversary of the race with a fellow Porsche team,” said Team Owner John Wright. “Ryan, Zach, and Jan had a great car and after winning the Rolex 24 At Daytona, they’ve proven they have what it takes to come out on top at demanding endurance racing events. We’re glad to have them back with us for the Six Hour, and we’ve got what it takes to get them back on the podium.”

Round Five of Eleven in the full-season 2023 IMSA WeatherTech championship, the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen marks the beginning of the second half of the North American sports car racing season. The race is the third of four endurance races in the calendar, with a run time of six hours. The 1st Phorm Porsche is only running in the North American Endurance Cup and will close out their four-race championship in October at Petit Le Mans.

The Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen will feature 57 entries competing across five classes, each entry striving for victory within their own classes, as well as overall. The 1st Phorm Porsche is competing in the GTD class, which boasts the largest field, with 20 entries slated to compete.

TheSix Hours of the Glen has a rich history that dates back to its inaugural race in 1968. Over the years, it has become one of the most highly anticipated endurance races on the North American motorsports calendar. The race itself lasts for six hours, demanding a combination of speed, strategy, and endurance from the teams and drivers. The track is known for its challenging 3.4-mile road course, with high-speed sections, sweeping turns, and elevation changes. Throughout the race, teams must manage tire wear, fuel consumption, driver changes, and pit stop strategies to optimize their performance and maintain a competitive edge. The Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen provides an exciting and unpredictable racing experience, with various twists and turns as teams navigate the challenges posed by traffic and changing weather conditions.

The race will begin on Sunday, June 25 at 10:40 AM ET, airing live on Peacock. imsaradio.com will offer live and comprehensive coverage of all WeatherTech sessions. For schedule information, visit imsa.com.

Ryan Hardwick

After many weeks racing in Europe, I’m looking forward to getting back in our Wright Motorsports GTD car and back to Watkins Glen! The Glen is my favorite race track in North America. I’ve always enjoyed racing there, and the 6 Hour is a marquee event. Our team will be pushing with everything we’ve got, and aiming for a podium result.

Jan Heylen

Luck hasn’t been on our side this year, but we are optimistic about this weekend! We had a good test here a few weeks ago, and we’re well prepared and ready for a good battle. Watkins Glen is always fun, but even more so in the new Porsche 911 GT3 R. The high downforce track suits us very well. I look forward to being back in the car with Ryan and Zach, and hopefully we get our first win of the season.

Zacharie Robichon

Watkins Glen is one of the most fun tracks for drivers. We had a good test in May and although we expect the weather to be very different, we learned a lot about the 992 GT3R and we are hoping to be able to apply our learnings into what is sure to be a very exciting race,

CHEVROLET LOOKS TO EXTEND NHRA MOMENTUM AND CONTINUE SUCCESS AT NORWALK

DETROIT (JUNE 22, 2023) – The ninth round of the 2023 NHRA Camping World Series season sees Team Chevy back in action near the northern coast of Ohio, with the drivers and teams in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and FlexJet Factory Stock Showdown taking on Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk.

In multiple categories, Chevrolet has seen success on-track with John Force Racing (Funny Car) and Elite Motorsports (Pro Stock). Entering as defending winners in last year’s Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, Robert Hight, driver of the AAA Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car for John Force Racing, looks to this weekend to go back-to-back in northern Ohio.

“Racing in Norwalk is always a highlight. There’s a lot of history there, the Bader family has created a tradition of putting on great events for fans,” Hight said. “It should be a good weekend. We’ll have AAA out and we’re right in Cornwell Tools’ backyard. It would be great to get AAA their first win of the season and share the winner’s circle with them.”

Brittany Force, driver of the Monster Energy / Flav-R-Pac Chevrolet Top Fuel dragster, enters this weekend defending her No. 1 qualifier from 2022, and is seeking her first win of the 2023 season.

“Norwalk is next for our Monster Energy / Flav-R-Pac team. With four qualifying runs, we have a better shot at getting qualified in the top three and figuring the track out with a little less pressure. You change your game plan with fewer qualifying runs and debate pushing for the top spot. With fewer runs it’s riskier so it’s nice to have an extra run this weekend,” Force said. “This team is staying positive, we are narrowing in on this car and its performance. In the past at Summit Motorsports Park we’ve qualified well and last year we were No. 1, set the track record and had a semifinal exit. Our history gives us some good data to pull from and get set up for the weekend. We are still on the hunt for the first win of the season and looking forward to getting back to Norwalk.”

Erica Enders, driver of the Johnson’s Horsepower Garage Elite Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro SS Pro Stock car, carries into the Summit Motorsports NHRA Nationals event weekend momentum after racing to her 44th career Pro Stock win in Bristol, all with Chevrolet. Approaching a major milestone, Enders only needs two more victories to tie Angelle Sampey (Pro Stock Motorcycle, 46) as the female leader in victories in NHRA Pro classes.

“It’s no secret we needed that change of momentum with our first win of the season in Bristol two weeks ago,” said Enders. “Momentum is huge in these summer months of NHRA drag racing and my guys and I are ready to ride it out and continue to capitalize. Heading to Norwalk is exciting. The track is incredible, fans are second to none and we’ve traditionally done well there with quite a few ice cream scoop trophies through the years. I’d love to add one more to my shelf!”

Rounding out representation for Chevrolet at Norwalk, the FlexJet Factory Stock Showdown is also back in action this weekend for their fifth round of the 2023 season. On a roll this year, Lenny Lottig looks to earn a third victory this season in his Chevrolet COPO Camaro after racing to the Winner’s Circle at Charlotte (Four-Wide) and Chicago. Aaron Stanfield enters Norwalk looking to go back-to-back for Chevrolet after capturing the Factory Stock Wally trophy most recently in Bristol.

The 2023 Summit Motorsports Equipment NHRA Nationals action from Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio airs first with qualifying Friday, June 23, at 5:30 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1 (FS1). Saturday qualifying airs Saturday, June 24 at 7 p.m. ET on FS1. Sunday’s Finals will air on FOX Sunday, June 25 starting at 4 p.m. ET. Coverage streaming live throughout the weekend can be found through NHRA.tv, available via AppleTV, Android TV, and Roku devices.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING:

Austin Prock, driver of the Rocky Mountain Twist / Montana Brands Chevrolet Top Fuel dragster for John Force Racing:

“I’m looking forward to heading back to Norwalk. We had a pretty good race car there last year and hopefully, we can have that right at the first qualifying session to start off a strong weekend. We have a new front half on the Montana Brand / Rocky Mountain Twist dragster that the guys worked on after Bristol. We’re looking forward to debuting the fresh pipe this weekend.”

John Force, driver of the PEAK Antifreeze and Coolant Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car for John Force Racing:

“I’m looking forward to going back to Norwalk. Summit Motorsports Park is an amazing facility. The Bader family knows how to do it right. I’ve been coming here for a lot of years. I know the family well, Bill Bader Sr., he built something great and now his family has continued the tradition and grown the vision, it is spectacular really. Every weekend I race, I want to win. It’s why I do it, why I’m still out here. So, I’m hoping this PEAK team puts on a good show for these Ohio fans.”

Camrie Caruso, driver of the Tequila Comisario Chevrolet Camaro Pro Stock for KB Titan Racing:

“I set a lot of goals for our team and last year we accomplished some of them, but I knew this year I wanted to start winning races and chase that Pro Stock championship. We picked up the win in Arizona and then another No. 1 qualifier at the Winternationals. This Tequila Comisario team is moving in the right direction. I felt we had a Camaro that could have won Bristol, but we had a bad second round that really wasn’t our fault. I am not going to make any excuses, but we have a good race car, and I can’t wait to get to Norwalk.”

Aaron Stanfield, driver of the Stanfield Racing Engines Chevrolet COPO Camaro in FlexJet Factory Stock Showdown:

“Getting that win in Bristol was big. We have been working really hard to get back into the winner’s circle. Now we have the bounty and some momentum going into Norwalk. We want to keep the points lead and maybe stretch it out a little bit. The competition will be tough with over 20 racecars on the property. Everyone is going to have to be at the top of their game.”

Toyota: Post-Purchase Car Evolution Accelerating Efforts to Enhance Car Value

Toyota Teammate [Advanced Park (with remote function)]

Upgrade Service Now Available for Prius U Grade in Japan

Toyota City, Japan, June 22, 2023 – (JCN Newswire) – Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) announced today that it has started offering an upgrade service in Japan that allows customers to swiftly evolve their cars in line with technological innovation as part of its efforts to enhance car value. The service is available for the Prius U Grade.

Toyota has been offering retrofitting of new equipment that was not installed at the time of purchase through KINTO FACTORY(1). This new upgrade service enables retrofitting of safety and security devices and functions previously unavailable, such as the Advanced Park feature of the Toyota Teammate advanced driving support technologies, to cars equipped with Upgrade Ready Design.

Upgrade Ready Design allows future devices and functions to be retrofitted by anticipating the work required for upgrades at the development stage and designing systems in advance that can significantly reduce the time required.

Toyota will continue its transformation into a mobility company by expanding upgrade menus and models to evolve cars so that customers can continue driving their beloved cars for many years to come.

Overview of upgrade service (KINTO Unlimited-exclusive Prius U Grade)

The Advanced Park feature (with remote function) of the Toyota Teammate advanced driver assistance technologies is available on the upgrade menu. In addition, seven items such as a Blind Spot Monitor, Panoramic View Monitor, Parking Support Brake (rear pedestrian detection), and Steering Wheel Heater can now be retrofitted individually as upgrade menu options even if they were not selected when the KINTO Unlimited contract was signed.

We will continue to consider expanding the upgrade menu to include large-screen display audio, heated seats, seat ventilation, and synthetic leather seats to meet customer needs.

Applications for the upgrade service will be accepted through the dedicated KINTO Unlimited smartphone app. Rates are standardized nationwide, and there are two payment options: a lump-sum payment or an addition to the monthly subscription fee.

(1) Service started on January 2022

Stewart-Haas Racing Special Announcement Transcript (6.21.23)

Stewart-Haas Racing Special Announcement | Wednesday, June 21, 2023

Stewart-Haas Racing proudly announced Wednesday, June 21 the future of its No. 4 Ford Mustang, naming Josh Berry to the seat beginning in 2024. Berry will be entering his first full-season in the NASCAR Cup Series, carrying the torch passed off by future hall-of-famer Kevin Harvick.

The announcement was made at Charlotte Motor Speedway, where the media asked questions about the decision and the team’s bright future ahead. In attendance were:

Tony Stewart, NASCAR Hall of Famer and Co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing
Kevin Harvick, Driver of the No. 4 Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing
Rodney Childers, Crew Chief of the No. 4 Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing
Greg Zipadelli, Chief Competition Officer for Stewart-Haas Racing

THIS IS INSIGHT INTO STEWART-HAAS RACING’S FUTURE. TONY, TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHY WE ARE HERE TODAY?

TONY STEWART – “Yeah, we’re obviously super excited to get to this moment today. There’s been a lot of talk, a lot of speculation and a lot of questions of ‘What are we going to do now that Kevin’s retiring?’ So, that leads us to today. I’ll be perfectly honest: This was not a big group of people that we had to make a choice from. We literally put all our eggs in one basket, and we put them on this kid to my left here with Josh Berry. He’s somebody that we all feel like he’s the right fit to step into the No. 4 car in the future, and we’re all super excited to have him at Stewart-Haas Racing. We just left the shop a minute ago. Everyone at the shop is extremely excited – we’re excited. To fill Kevin’s shoes is a hard task, and we all are very confident off of Josh’s merit and his maturity – everything he has done and all the positions he’s put himself in shows that he’s a smart race car driver, and that’s exactly what we’re looking for, for this No. 4 car.”

JOSH, DESCRIBE THIS MOMENT AND THE OPPORTUNITY THAT AWAITS YOU.

JOSH BERRY – “Obviously, this is a really special day for me, and it’s special for a lot of people. First off, I have to thank everyone sitting up here with me for believing in me. Bringing me here to do this is such a special day. It’s been a fun process over the last couple of months, getting to know these guys and working with them. I can’t imagine a better opportunity for myself, to be full-time Cup racing with Stewart-Haas and headed for the No. 4 car. Our expectations are going to be simple: That’s just to keep working hard and keep doing the things this group has been doing for years… working hard, believing in each other. We think that if we do the right things and stay the course, that the results will come. It’s just a really special day for a lot of people in my life, and I’m excited to be here. In the meantime, these guys have a lot of racing left to do this year as well. I’m going to be excited to cheer on Kevin, Rodney and this whole group, as well as everybody at Stewart-Haas. Obviously on my side of things, I have a lot of racing to do myself with JR Motorsports. So, we’re ready to get going.”

KEVIN, YOU’RE THE CURRENT DRIVER OF THE NO. 4 FORD MUSTANG AND HAVE BEEN FOR A DECADE. YOU’VE ACCOMPLISHED A LOT, INCLUDING A CHAMPIONSHIP IN 2014 AND 37 CUP VICTORIES WITH STEWART-HAAS RACING. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON JOSH BERRY TAKING OVER THE NO. 4 IN 2024?

KEVIN HARVICK – “Well, I’m excited for everybody at this table. Honestly, I think as I look for people who can get in the car and fit with the group of people that I’ve been fortunate to race with for the last 10 years, is something that was important to me, and to make sure Rodney, Greg and Tony all had somebody that they were comfortable with fitting into the group. Because, it’s a special group of people. With the background Josh has and the background Rodney has… There are a lot of common denominators that really just make sense. I think I asked the question probably about a year ago if Josh was on that list, and I asked earlier this year – and here it is today, because I’d talked to Rodney about it a lot and in those conversations, Josh was always the name that he just never wavered on. So, for me, it was fun to watch it progress. This year has kind of been interesting because I’ve kind of tried to stand back and let these guys do more in working toward the future. To see it all come together makes me happy to know that everything is going to be in good hands.”

GREG, SHR HAS BEEN BLESSED WITH KEVIN’S VETERAN LEADERSHIP, POISE AND MATURITY. EVEN THOUGH JOSH IS GOING TO BE A ROOKIE NEXT YEAR, THE TEAM STILL GETS THAT IN HIM. HOW IMPORTANT ARE THOSE CHARACTERISTICS TO THE OVERALL SUCCESS OF THE ORGANIZATION?

GREG ZIPADELLI – “Oh, it’s huge. I mean, Kevin is leaving really big shoes to fill – no pressure, Josh. Honestly, Kevin’s leadership over the last 10 years, his direction, has been instrumental to Stewart-Haas. I think we all thought that Josh has some of the same attributes within him. You look at his racing in the past, and where he’s come from. He’s always made himself successful in the right ways – racing hard, clean and like I said before, a lot of grit. I think he’s going to fit in with our group well. We’re all still a bunch of racers, and I think he fits right into our group in that way. I think Kevin mentions some of those things on how important it is that he fits in – just his philosophy in racing, I think it’s in. Hopefully that makes the learning curve and the pressure that he’ll have next year being full-time in Cup… I think it’ll make a lot of that easier for him.”

RODNEY, YOU BUILT THE NO. 4 TEAM FROM SCRATCH AND HAVE ENJOYED ALL THE ACCOLADES WITH KEVIN THROUGH THE YEARS. NOW YOU’RE IN THE POSITION OF BUILDING THE PROGRAM FOR THE FUTURE. HOW MUCH ARE YOU RELISHING YOUR CURRENT TIME WITH KEVIN, WHILE ALSO THINKING ABOUT THE FUTURE WITH JOSH?

RODNEY CHILDERS – “Ten years have flown by in a hurry. To have the relationship that I’ve had with Kevin the last 10 years, and to do the things that we’ve done, you look back on some of those special moments of winning the championship, winning races and going on streaks of finishing in the top-five 10 races in a row or top-twos for eight races in a row – stuff like that. That’s just something that’s unheard of. Our whole group has been part of that, and it’s just a special group from top to bottom – our shop guys, our pit crew, our road guys and just everybody involved. That part is extremely special to me. And then, it just goes to Josh. I think everybody knows that I’m a Josh Berry fan, and I really think that’s what some of this came down to. I told the shop guys at Stewart-Haas this morning that I wish they could all go back through his phone and count how many times that I text him saying if that guy could ever get the right opportunity, he’s going to show something. It’s just cool as crap today to see him up here with us, to be able to go racing with him and to have that same common goal. Also, I think everybody knows what relationships mean to me and what Kevin said, having someone that can fit in to that – someone that I can text 100 times a day like this guy beside me (Harvick), and he doesn’t care. I think having that relationship and the common background, common goals is really important.”

TONY, CAN YOU DEFINE HOW JOSH FITS INTO THAT GRASSROOTS MENTALITY?

STEWART – “That’s something that’s a really big part of our DNA at Stewart-Haas Racing. It’s not about guys that just come in, spend their time during the day and when the clock gets to the point where it’s time to leave, they all just bail out of there. We got people there that care about race cars, and that’s all they think about is racing. That’s what this guy (Josh Berry) has done for years. He lives, eats and breathes racing, and that’s all he wants to do aside from his family. But, that’s what we want. That’s the DNA we want. That’s what our culture at SHR is built around – a bunch of people who just want to go win races and contend for championships. That’s one of the many reasons why he’s such a good fit for our organization right now.”

JOSH DOESN’T BRING ANY SPONSORSHIP BUT HAS EARNED THIS FROM HIS HARD WORK AND MERIT. DOES HE REPRESENT THE THROWBACK CULTURE?

STEWART – “I am not interested in some kid’s father coming and buying their way into the Cup series. I have zero interest in that. We want guys that earn their way, that work hard, that understand the values that it takes to be a top-tier driver – not one that just got his high school diploma and now all the sudden he’s a Cup driver. I’ve got zero interest in that. Josh has put the time, the effort, and every time he’s got an opportunity, he’s made the most of it. Those are the traits that championship drivers are built off of, not the easy ticket to get there. This guy has had to sit there every time he’s made a change, he’s had to make the most of it. That’s why.”

JOSH: WHAT DOES THIS OPPORTUNITY MEAN TO YOU, ESPECIALLY EARNING IT OFF MERIT AND NOT HAVING TO BRING SPONSORSHIP WITH YOU?

BERRY – “It means a lot, that journey it took to get here. It was an amazing journey to get here racing late model stocks and Xfinity cars for JR Motorsports, and the success we had is something that I will forever look back on so fondly, enjoying those moments so much to get here. The reality of it, heading to the Cup series, is that nobody really cares what your path was to get there. I’m ready for that challenge. I’m ready for the opportunity that’s ahead of me: To try to make a name for myself in the Cup series. I’m proud of how I got here, but the work for 2024 starts today… and it started before today as well.”

DO YOU HAVE SPONSORS LINED UP FOR 2024, OR ARE YOU OPEN FOR ANY OPPORTUNITIES?

STEWART – “Right at this point, we are totally open. We’re having discussions internally with current sponsors, and then we have a lot of potential sponsors that are interested in this program as well. So, nothing to announce on that side yet, but there are a lot of conversations going on right now.”

DID JOSH’S APPEARANCES IN THE NO. 9 AND NO. 48 THIS YEAR FACTOR INTO THE TEAM’S DECISION TO RECRUIT HIM, AND DID HIS FILL-IN ROLES DELAY THE PROCESS?

STEWART – “We made the decision before he was filling in, but it was great for us. We’re sitting there in the back smiling: He was getting free track time on somebody else’s dollar. But, it was good experience, and it really gave us a good opportunity. Any time you move somebody up in a division, you don’t know until you see him in the car what they’re going to do. It’s obviously a risk, but we had made the decision internally, what our play was and what we wanted to do. It actually did a little bit. It was just out of respect for Rick Hendrick, Hendrick Motorsports, their partners and OEMs, making sure we weren’t doing something that was going to disrupt the opportunity that Josh had to get laps and to do a good job without the headaches, hassles, and it being complicated. We tried to work together to make it as easy for him as possible.”

HOW SIGNIFICANT IS THIS MOVE FOR YOU, SPECIFICALLY INTO THE NO. 4 CAR AND WITH A CHAMPIONSHIP-CALIBER TEAM THAT HAS VOICED ITS CONFIDENCE IN YOU?

BERRY – “It really means a lot to have the support I’ve had. Obviously, to get to this point, I knew that everybody at SHR and this group beside me believes in me and what I bring to the table. So, it’s going to be a great challenge trying to fill the job that Kevin’s done over the years. He’s a future hall-of-famer, has won countless races and a championship. I’ve been watching the races this year, and these guys have been running really well from what I’ve been seeing. So, it’s really encouraging for me, and exciting for me, to know I’m going to get such a great group around me. I intend to do everything I can to try to keep that group together and excited to work with me. I know that I’ll have some great support with Tony, Kevin and Dale [Earnhardt Jr.] as well as I transition to a full-time Cup driver. It’s all great. Like I said, I really can’t imagine myself going to a better opportunity.”

RODNEY, CAN YOU ELABORATE ON THE RELATIONSHIP YOU AND JOSH HAVE AROUND LATE MODEL RACING?

CHILDERS – “On the late model side, you could see it from the very beginning. The very early days of going to Hickory and running on Saturday night to a year or two later of just completely dominating every time you went. And then, watching the CARS Tour racing and other things. It also goes along with doing things like he did at the Snowball Derby last year, going down there and maybe some people not expecting him to do a whole lot, then sits on the front-row and runs up-front all day. You could just always see it, from the very beginning. For me, I went through all that same stuff. You talk about making it on merit. He’s kind of went about it the same way that I was trying to go about it, so I’ve just always had a ton of respect for that. We both had great opportunities to get to where we are, and to be able to work together and to share some of that on the weekends of watching late model races and talking about that kind of stuff is kind of an ice-breaker in a way. It makes it fun. Hopefully, we can run some late model races together, too. That would be a lot of fun.”

WHAT CONVERSATIONS DID YOU HAVE WITH DALE EARNHARDT JR. ABOUT THE PROCESS, AND WHEN DID YOU TELL HIM THAT YOU WERE GOING TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY WITH SHR?

BERRY – “Dale and Kelley [Earnhardt Miller] have been there every step of the way throughout this process. They were fully aware of the opportunity that was potential in front of me, and they were in full support. They have supported me the whole way. Kind of like Tony said: This actually began before the season started. The opportunity and the timing that was presented with the No. 9 and the No. 48 was just kind of crazy to even think about. Dale was super helpful to me, as I navigated through that. Not only am I trying to race for a championship and compete for wins in the Xfinity series, but I’m also filling in for Chase [Elliott] and Alex [Bowman] unexpectedly in a last-second scenario, especially the first week. Then, in the process of figuring out and negotiating my future. It was a lot, and Dale was a great asset to me through that – not only as a boss, but also just as a friend. I’m definitely grateful for that, and I’m grateful for everything they’ve done for me over the years. We had an emotional meeting this morning at JR Motorsports with the whole company, as we let them know this news. It was just a special day for all of us that had a part in getting me here.”

FROM YOUR 2021 XFINITY SERIES WIN AT MARTINSVILLE TO NOW, COULD YOU HAVE ENVISIONED EARNING THIS OPPORTUNITY AS QUICKLY?

BERRY – “No… a lot has happened really quickly, right? Especially, in the last three years. You really think three years to the day, I’m in the midst of the beginning, making a run to try and win the weekly series’ national championship in late model stock – in the early weeks of that run. So, in three years I’ve gone from racing a late model at Hickory to accepting and starting a journey in the Cup series with Stewart-Haas Racing. So, it’s been a journey – without a doubt. I’m just thankful. There have been so many moments over the last couple of years, but the win at Martinsville is really what I think changed my future and opened up opportunities. We were able to secure some funding and partnerships to get full-time Xfinity racing in, and I was also able to get some opportunities in other cars, trucks and whatnot along the way. That was really just the snowball that got everything going. It’s been a lot of fun over the last couple of years, that’s for sure. It’s been a whirlwind.”

WHAT ADVICE OR WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUNG DRIVERS PURSUING A CAREER IN RACING, BUT LACKING FINANCIAL SUPPORT?

STEWART – “I’d say the first thing is don’t get discouraged if your parents aren’t wealthy and can buy your way to the top. I think for young people, the biggest thing that I try to emphasize is to have fun doing what you’re doing – no matter what level of motorsport you are in. A.) You have to have fun doing it, and B.) It’s just working hard. Josh is proof. Kevin is proof. I’m proof. Rodney is proof. Zippy (Zipadelli) is proof. Everybody up here is proof that if you work hard, you can get where you want to be. But, you have to put the work in, and the time and effort that it takes to do that. I really don’t think people in general realize the sacrifices that people at this level need to make to get here. There are things that you sacrifice, that you either put on hold or you don’t get to do in your life, because you’re so dedicated to motorsports. That’s what makes these top-tier people top-tier – the time and dedication that it takes. So, that’s the advice I give to kids and their parents. We’re in this era where we’re seeing kids at 12-14 years old driving late models, which I think is ludicrous. I don’t think there is any reason for it, and there’s nothing they are going to miss waiting until they’re 16 or 18 to get in full-size race cars. Their bodies are not mature, and their minds are not mature. I don’t understand the rush. I want somebody who had to go through hard times, somebody who knows what it takes to go up and down the road, and that is mentally stable and understands what it takes to compete at this level. Knows how to sit there and not just go fast in the car, but know how to put the race together and know when it’s time to push and when not to push. That’s what has made Kevin so successful over all these years. He is, in my opinion, the smartest driver in the series right now. He has been for many years. He just knows how to put the whole race together. If it’s not right, he gets to the end of the stint, gives Rodney a chance to make adjustments, and when it’s time to push and when he can push, he does. You just don’t see drivers that have that kind of savvy anymore. Josh is one of those guys that we do see that in. We know that he knows how to plan for the entire race, not just for the lap he’s on.”

RODNEY: HOW SOON CAN YOU WORK WITH JOSH, AND WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS?

CHILDERS – “I don’t think I even know the answer to that yet. I think relationship building is the most important part. I think that’s what helped Kevin and I the most going into 2014. We had a year of that relationship building it seemed like. I already think that the relationship I have with Josh is probably ahead of where I was when I first met Kevin, just because of talking about late models over the last five years. So, I think that’s the biggest thing. We both have huge tasks on our hands – the rest of the year. We need to win races in the No. 4 car, and we need to make a run at the championship. That’s our goal. He needs to do the same on the Xfinity side. So, we’re going to keep it simple. I know from my standpoint, it’s going to be staying in touch once a week and building on that relationship. But other than that, it’s going to be focusing on our jobs that we have in trying to win races.”

KEVIN, HOW DO YOU KNOW JOSH IS MENTALLY PREPARED FOR THE NEXT STEP WHEN HE HAS LIMITED SEAT TIME IN CUP?

HARVICK – “Well, I think the best evidence is exactly what he did in the No. 9 and the No. 48, right? I mean, jumping into those cars when the seats don’t fit, he doesn’t know the people very well and being competitive and figuring it out. I think that’s one of the more unique scenarios about Josh – he’s a little bit older, has a family, and you don’t need to teach him about life. There’s a maturity factor that goes with life, and I think he’s lived through some of the more important parts, had his face drug through the mud – all the things it takes to figure out that it’s not easy, and that you have to work hard to have your ducks in a row and be able to have that circle of life well put together around you in order to be successful at this. Because, if there is any piece of the circle that’s being disrupted in that particular moment, it’s going to disrupt everything. You can say that it doesn’t, but it does. I think his maturity – you see what he does on the racetrack, but I think a lot of success in this particular division depends on what’s happening outside of the race car. I think having experience to lean on – I know he leans on Dale a lot, and Dale is a great mentor to have because everything he has done was done at such a high level. To have that ability to pick up the phone is great, having people who can give you an honest opinion and tell you what they think, and you know they’re telling you to try and help you. Having those assets and being willing to take those opinions, and apply them, is important. There are a number of things outside of the car that he demonstrates well when it comes to life in general, and you can have fun doing this, but it’s way more fun if you win. In order to do that, you have to have everything else together.”

ARE YOU GOING TO BE STAYING AROUND IN A CONSULTING ROLE?

HARVICK – “We have a lot of things happening currently. I’m here to help these guys, and I’ll always be here to help from his (Childers’) standpoint, and these two guys. But right now, from a management side, we have some other business things happening – CARS Tour, Keelan and everything we have going on. I don’t have any plans from the team side of things.”

WAS FORD INCLUDED IN THE SELECTION PROCESS?

ZIPADELLI – “No. This was SHR courting, just because of what we believe in as everybody has mentioned up here. It’s simply what Josh has accomplished and what we think he has to bring. No, there was none of that. We internally made the decision in the direction we were going, shared it with them and obviously they were excited and feel like he’s a great talent for the future. There wasn’t any strategic moves.”

Daniel Dye – Nashville Preview

Nashville Preview
June 23 | 8:00 PM ET | FS1 – MRN – SiriusXM

Nashville Preview Overview

On Friday night, Daniel Dye will make his debut at the Nashville Superspeedway, as part of the 2023 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series season. So far this season, Dye has 12 starts, with his best starting position being 10th and his best finish, 11th at Gateway. He currently holds the 18th position in the point rankings in the No. 43 GMS Racing Chevrolet Silverado.

Dye will be racing with GMS Racing Chassis No. 348, the same Silverado he debuted with a 13th-place finish at Kansas Speedway and later secured a top-20 finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway. His team’s crew chief, Blake Bainbridge, will also be making his debut at Nashville in the truck series, having previously earned a best finish of 11th with Jamie McMurray in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2005.

Despite a setback in St. Louis due to a pit road miscue, Dye demonstrated impressive resilience and racing prowess, at one point challenging for the race lead. He eventually finished just outside the top 10, securing his best career finish.

Sponsored by Champion Container Corporation for the second time this year, Dye expressed confidence in his team’s capabilities and optimism for the upcoming race in Nashville, citing their past performance with the same truck at Kansas as a positive indicator.

2023 NASCAR Truck Series Stats
Starts: 12; Best start: 10th; Best finish: 13th (Kansas I); Laps led: 5; Current points position: 18th

Chassis History
At Nashville, Dye will be competing using the GMS Racing chassis No. 348. This season, Daniel has driven this Silverado on two occasions, first attaining a 13th place finish at Kansas Speedway, followed by a top-20 finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway where he secured a 19th place finish.

Blake Bainbridge at Nashville
At Nashville, Blake Bainbridge, who has previously directed two NASCAR Xfinity Series races and achieved a notable 11th place finish with Jamie McMurray in 2005, will be taking on a new challenge. This weekend, Bainbridge will mark his inaugural race at the venue, serving as a crew chief in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series.

Rookie of the Year
In the Sunoco Rookie Battle, Daniel Dye delivered an impressive performance in St. Louis, where at one stage it seemed he was heading towards his maiden top-five finish. For a significant part of the race, the newcomer was in second position, giving a tough fight to teammate Grant Enfinger for the lead as the race neared its conclusion. A pit road error, unfortunately, pushed Dye’s No. 43 Chevrolet far back in the pack. Despite this setback, Dye’s swift restarts and ability to avoid crashes propelled him just beyond the top-10, securing his best career finish at 11th. Although he advanced one position in the overall points standing (18th), he remains fourth in the rookie points, trailing Rajah Caruth by 13 points in third and 98 points behind the leader, Nick Sanchez.

Daniel Dye Quote

Your performance in Gateway had to be a big confidence booster to you, so how do you think your first start in Nashville will go knowing that you are capable of running up front?

“Yeah, I’m definitely looking forward to going back to another intermediate track. I think after St. Louis, we’re feeling pretty good about what the No. 43 team is capable of doing each and every week. We’re going to be racing the same truck as what we ran at Kansas, so hopefully some of our speed can translate there since we were able to have a good run with it in Kansas City. I’m thankful for having Champion Container onboard our Chevrolet this weekend for the second time this year; the truck looks good and we are going to try our best to give it a good run!”

  • In the 2023 season, Allmendinger has led one lap and earned two top 10s and five top-15 finishes.

“Last year we had a good run in the Cup car at Nashville. It feels like another unique oval which makes it a lot of fun for me to drive. It’s not your typical short track; it’s like a crossbreed. Nashville has some speed, but it drives like a short track, and you can maneuver around the racetrack as it widens out. I’ve had a lot of fun the last couple years between Xfinity and Cup. Hopefully, we can go there and do the same; it’s definitely a race track I’ve looked forward to going to over the last two years.” – AJ Allmendinger on Nashville Superspeedway

Justin Haley, No. 31 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Camaro ZL1

  • Justin Haley has made two starts at Nashville Superspeedway in the NCS.
  • So far in the 2023 season, Haley has earned three top-10 finishes.
  • After completing the 2023 Coca-Cola 600 and Alsco Uniforms 300, Haley now holds the record for the most NASCAR National Series miles completed in a single day by any driver in NASCAR history.

“Nashville hasn’t typically been a track that I have been great at, but we really started putting together some good races leading up to our off week. I do really enjoy racing on concrete surfaces, so I am really looking forward to that aspect. Hopefully we can keep steadily improving like we have been doing.” – Justin Haley on Nashville Superspeedway

Daniel Hemric, No. 11 Cirkul Chevrolet Camaro

  • Daniel Hemric has made two NXS starts at Nashville Superspeedway with an average finish of 15th.
  • Hemric currently sits 11th in the NXS standings and has earned one top five and six top-10 finishes.

“Nashville is obviously a very important market for our sport. I am excited about what Nashville offers and the way NASCAR has gone about prepping the racetrack by giving us more lanes. It has been fun celebrating some really good times there for myself in the past. I used to watch races from Nashville as a kid. It has been fun to go back there and put on a race over the past two seasons. I look forward to doing it for the third year in a row. Your car needs to be good, and as a driver you have to be on top of it. Hopefully we can do that this weekend and have a good weekend.” – Daniel Hemric on Nashville Superspeedway

Chandler Smith, No. 16 Quick Tie Products Chevrolet Camaro

  • Chandler Smith will make his first NXS start at Nashville Superspeedway in The Tennessee Lottery 250.
  • Smith has made two starts in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) and led 48 laps at Nashville Superspeedway.
  • Smith currently sits sixth in the NXS standings and has earned one win, four top fives and six top-10 finishes.

“Nashville is always a fun track to race at, because it doesn’t run like any other place we go to. It’s not a mile-and-a-half, it’s smaller, but there’s obviously some similarities between it and those tracks. It’s fully concrete like Dover, so grip levels and tire wear are different than what we usually deal with. It all makes for a fun challenge, and I’m curious to see how the Xfinity car will handle there compared to the trucks.” – Chandler Smith on Nashville Superspeedway

Haley will continue to drive the No. 31 full-time in 2023, alongside AJ Allmendinger, who will drive the No. 16 Camaro ZL1. The team will continue to field three, full-time NXS entries; the No. 10 Chevrolet driven by an all-star lineup, the No. 11 Chevrolet driven by Daniel Hemric, and the No. 16 Chevrolet driven by Chandler Smith. Josh Berry Marches #4Ward

Stewart-Haas Racing Names Berry the Successor of its No. 4 Ford Mustang in the NASCAR Cup Series, Replacing the Retiring Kevin Harvick in 2024

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 21, 2023) – One of the most coveted seats in the NASCAR Cup Series has been filled.

Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) has named Josh Berry the driver of its No. 4 Ford Mustang in the NASCAR Cup Series beginning with the 2024 season. He will replace the retiring Kevin Harvick, whose 23-year Cup Series career will come to an end following the season finale Nov. 5 at Phoenix Raceway.

“I can’t imagine a better opportunity for me – to get in a car that’s been as successful and iconic as the No. 4,” Berry said. “Kevin is a future NASCAR Hall of Famer, and it’s going to be a challenge trying to come after someone so successful. But I know I’m going to have an amazing group of people around me, led by Rodney Childers, to where we can hit the ground running.”

Harvick and his crew chief, Childers, have combined for 37 points-paying wins since their pairing in 2014, when they came out of the gate in impressive fashion by winning the 2014 Cup Series title.

“We’re incredibly proud to have Josh Berry begin the next chapter of his racing career in our No. 4 Ford Mustang,” said Tony Stewart, co-owner of SHR with Haas Automation founder Gene Haas. “Kevin Harvick has obviously set a very high bar, but Josh brings maturity, experience and, above all, a winning record to Stewart-Haas Racing. He is the right driver, at the right time, for the No. 4 team and our organization.”

Berry currently competes in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, the stepping-stone division to the elite Cup Series. The 32-year-old from Hendersonville, Tennessee, is a five-time Xfinity Series race winner who advanced to the Championship 4 in 2022. Berry’s on-track exploits have made him the go-to solution for Cup Series teams in need of an interim driver. He has already made 10 Cup Series starts, highlighted by a second-place finish April 2 at Richmond (Va.) Raceway while subbing for the injured Chase Elliott.

“Josh Berry has proven himself in the Xfinity Series and this year showed how quickly he can adapt to the cars and the level of competition in the NASCAR Cup Series,” said Greg Zipadelli, chief competition officer, SHR. “He’ll be a rookie in our racecar next year, but he drives like a veteran. He puts in the work to ensure that he’s always ready for the opportunities that come his way, and we’re very happy that his next opportunity is with Stewart-Haas Racing.”

Just as Berry earned his 2024 seat with SHR via strong and consistent performances in the Xfinity and Cup Series, Berry earned his spot in the Xfinity Series by dominating Late Model racing across a variety of grassroots series.

While winning six Legend Cars championships as a teenager, Berry also competed in iRacing, and it was during online racing sessions where Berry caught the attention of Dale Earnhardt Jr. Earnhardt offered a Late Model test to Berry and he seized the moment. Berry joined JR Motorsports’ Late Model program in 2010 and soon delivered wins and championships, most notably the 2017 CARS Late Model Stock Tour championship and then the 2020 NASCAR Weekly Racing Series championship.

Earnhardt’s belief in Berry had been duly rewarded, so Earnhardt double-downed on his faith in Berry by promoting his protégé to one of JR Motorsports’ Xfinity Series entries, albeit on a limited schedule. In just his 13th career Xfinity Series start, Berry won on April 11, 2021 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway. The site of one of Berry’s most prominent Late Model victories – the 2019 ValleyStar Credit Union 300 – became the site of his breakthrough NASCAR moment. A second Xfinity Series victory was earned on Sept. 25 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, setting the stage for a three-win campaign in 2022 where Berry competed for the championship in his first full-time season.

“I’m really proud of how I’ve gotten to this point and earned this opportunity,” Berry said. “I don’t like to use the word luck. It’s also been about preparation meeting opportunity.

“The Xfinity Series win at Martinsville changed my career and allowed us to point toward a full-time season for 2022 where we competed for the championship.

“It’s also been very meaningful to get some opportunities in the Cup Series this year. I’m proud of how they went, but I cannot wait to drive a Cup car that’s got my name on it.”

After subbing for race-winning drivers in the Cup Series, most notably Elliott and Alex Bowman, Berry will indeed get his own racecar in 2024, but one that has been driven for a decade by Harvick.

“Late Model racing is where I came from, and I think it’s the best place to learn and prepare to eventually race in the NASCAR Cup Series,” said Harvick, who is an ardent supporter of Late Model racing and its presence as a feeder system to NASCAR’s Truck, Xfinity and Cup Series. “Josh is a really good example, and probably the best and most recent example, of applying all that he’s learned in Late Models to what he’s doing in the Xfinity Series.

“Winning the CARS Late Model Stock Tour championship and the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series championship requires a lot of skill and an equal amount of determination. Josh did both and won a lot of races along the way. That experience allowed him to be fast and successful right off the bat when he got to the Xfinity Series, and when he had his opportunities to race in the Cup Series earlier this year, he again showed speed and an ability to race at the front.

“I’m very happy for Josh and proud to see him get this opportunity. He’s going to be a really good fit with Rodney and the No. 4 team.”

In May, Harvick partnered with Earnhardt, Jeff Burton and Justin Marks to purchase the CARS Late Model Stock Tour, the same series Berry ran from 2015 through 2022, winning 22 races and the 2017 title.

“When I was racing the Late Model car, I just wanted to be the most bad-ass short-track racer that you could be, and that’s how we progressed,” Berry said. “We won a ton of races, a national championship and a CARS Tour championship. We had a list of things that we wanted to accomplish and big races we wanted to win, and we’d go out there every time with the intent of checking things off that list.”

Childers can relate to Berry’s Late Model ambitions. Before becoming a successful crew chief, Childers was a successful Late Model driver.

“I think one of the many things that’s made Kevin and I work so well together is our history in Late Model racing and our respect for it,” Childers said. “Late Model racing is a really great proving ground, and Josh showed that he was the best of the best when it came to pavement Late Model racing. And when he got to the Xfinity Series, he kept on winning. To be the guy who will help Josh get his first Cup win is something I’m really looking forward to.”

A road that began with karting in his home state of Tennessee that segued to iRacing with Dale Earnhardt Jr., which landed Berry a shop job at JR Motorsports as a parts washer while he worked to make a name for himself in Late Models and then the Xfinity Series, has finally culminated with a full-time drive in the Cup Series.

“I wouldn’t change anything about how I got here. It made me who I am,” Berry said. “Throughout my teenage years, it was a fight just to keep racing, to get to the next race.

“The timing of Dale and I getting together, that was crucial. If that doesn’t happen, I don’t know that I would’ve ever raced a stock car, or how much more I would’ve raced at all, just because racing overextended us financially. And when you race that way, it’s hard to set any kind of a long-term goal. But your goals just change as you grow.

“Those years of racing and winning, and the people I was around and worked with, prepared me for the opportunities that I’ve gotten, and they’ve prepared me to capitalize on this opportunity with Stewart-Haas Racing. Even without knowing where it would ultimately take me, I’d do it all over again.”

  • Porsche Penske Motorsport travels to round five of the season leading the championship
  • Nick Tandy and Mathieu Jaminet at the top of the drivers’ standings
  • Second race outing for the customer-run 963 from JDC-Miller MotorSports
  • A total of six Porsche 911 GT3 R contest the two GTD classes

Porsche Penske Motorsport travels to round five of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship as the leader of the team classification. In the 6 Hours of the Glen in New York state, the factory squad aims to extend its championship lead and propel Porsche to the top of the manufacturer’s standings. Porsche Penske Motorsport fields two Porsche 963 at Watkins Glen International, with the customer team JDC-Miller MotorSports campaigning one identical hybrid prototype in the top GTP class. In the two GTD categories, four partner teams run a total of six Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Atlanta. After scoring top results at the Californian circuits of Long Beach and Laguna Seca recently, the works drivers Mathieu Jaminet from France and Nick Tandy from the UK moved to the top of the leaderboard in the drivers’ classification. The pair in the No. 6 Porsche 963 is determined to defend their lead in the championship at Watkins Glen International. Felipe Nasr from Brazil and Australian Matt Campbell share driving duties in the sister car. The No. 7 entry secured the first pole position for Porsche Penske Motorsport in Laguna Seca. In the manufacturers’ classification, Porsche currently ranks second. In the long and illustrious history of the race track in the Fingerlakes region of New York, the sports car manufacturer from Germany has achieved eleven overall victories.

“After the disappointment at Le Mans, we now want to continue the clear uptrend that we’ve demonstrated previously in the IMSA series,” explains Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President Porsche Motorsport. “Our two Porsche 963 will be well prepared for the race and the driver pairings have already impressively displayed their ability. The North American endurance racing scene offers fans some gripping, balanced and spectacular racing at every event. I hope that we’ll also be mixing with the main players at this fantastic show at Watkins Glen.”

“We recently achieved some fantastic results in the sprint races of the IMSA series. Now it’s time for another endurance event. We aim to shine there as well,” states Urs Kuratle. The Director of Factory Motorsport LMDh adds: “Our team went testing at Watkins Glen a few weeks ago and has already set up the Porsche 963 to the special characteristics of this stunning parkland race track. Our goal is clear: we also want to take the lead in the manufacturers’ championship.”

“The team is completely focused on the task ahead at Watkins Glen. We want to continue fighting for the lead in the championship – especially after what happened at Le Mans,” Jonathan Diuguid clarifies. The Managing Director of Porsche Penske Motorsport adds: “We learn something new at every race and we continue to improve the car and the team. Watkins Glen will be a huge challenge. The race is not as long as those in Daytona, Sebring or Le Mans, but the six-hour event should not be underestimated. We hope to benefit from our two days of testing at Watkins Glen and we look forward to heading into the second half of the season.”

The race
The six-hour race has its roots in the Grand Prix Watkins Glen, which was contested on public roads for the first time in 1948. Eight years later, it switched to a purpose-built closed race track under the name Watkins Glen International. From 1961 to 1980, Formula One was contested regularly on the 3.4-mile (5.47-kilometer) course. At the same time, endurance racing became a regular fixture at the circuit, which features eleven turns and spectacular uphill and downhill passages. To date, Porsche has eleven overall victories at Watkins Glen.
The course nestles harmoniously into the forested and undulating landscape of the Finger Lakes, which lie close to the Canadian border and are extremely popular with tourists. Fast and flowing with dramatic elevation changes make it a favorite among drivers. Like on almost all North American tracks, Watkins Glen has very few run-off zones. This adds to the thrill for drivers and spectators alike. Alongside long-distance races at Daytona, Sebring and the season finale at Road Atlanta, the six-hour event counts towards the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup. This special classification includes the four longest races of the season.

The drivers
Mathieu Jaminet from France and Nick Tandy from the UK share the cockpit of Porsche Penske Motorsport’s No. 6 car. The Englishman won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2015. In April, the pair clinched the maiden victory for the Porsche 963 at Long Beach. Scoring second at the previous race in Laguna Seca, Jaminet/Tandy moved to the top of the drivers’ standings. The crew in the No. 7 sister car, Felipe Nasr from Brazil and Australian Matt Campbell, currently ranks sixth. Campbell achieved the first pole position for the Porsche 963 at Laguna Seca.

The customer teams
The Porsche 963 fielded by the customer team JDC-Miller MotorSports tackles the top GTP class. The squad from Minneapolis put in a strong drive at its debut in Laguna Seca and crossed the finish line in seventh place. The experienced German driver Mike Rockenfeller and the young Dutchman Tijmen van der Helm share driving duties in the yellow No. 5 hybrid prototype.

In the GTD-Pro class, Pfaff Motorsports fields one Porsche 911 GT3 R. The defending champion of the top GT category currently ranks third in the championship after a win in Sebring and podium finishes in Long Beach and Laguna Seca. The No. 9 racer from the Canadian squad is helmed by Austrian Klaus Bachler and Patrick Pilet from France. In the GTD category, three customer teams field a total of five GT3 cars from Weissach, Germany. The Laguna Seca class winners Kellymoss with Riley and the Wright Motorsports outfit each field two vehicles, with AO Racing running one car.

Porsche GT4 e-Performance demonstrates its potential at Watkins Glen
As part of the support program of the IMSA race weekend in Watkins Glen, spectators will not only be treated to two races of the hotly contested Porsche Deluxe Carrera Cup North America. In addition, Porsche brand ambassador Jörg Bergmeister will turn demo laps in the Porsche GT4 e-Performance on Friday (June 23) and Sunday (June 25). The overall Daytona winner and Le Mans class victor will push the all-electric test car delivering up to 800 kW (1,088 PS) to the limit. The aim is to underline the power of the potential customer racer of the future. The demo run of the impressive concept car is part of the GT4 e-Performance World Tour. The vehicle has already made appearances in Goodwood (United Kingdom), Leipzig (Germany), Austin, Los Angeles and Atlanta as well as at the Race of Champions in Sweden.

Drivers’ comments on the Watkins Glen race
Mathieu Jaminet (Porsche 963 No. 6): “I wasn’t particularly happy with Le Mans. So, I’m pleased to quickly get back into the IMSA series in the Porsche 963. Nick and I are leading the IMSA drivers’ championship. The main thing is that we get through the six hours at Watkins Glen in one piece and collect a lot of points. Our two-day test at the track was helpful. We gained important experience and data, but we still don’t know where we stand compared to the opposition.”

Matt Campbell (Porsche 963 No. 7): “I’m super excited about the race at Watkins Glen. A few weeks ago we conducted very successful tests there, and we made noticeable progress. Before this test, I’d only ever driven GT cars at Watkins Glen. I like the track. It’s wonderfully fast and offers a lot of grip. It’s even more fun with a prototype. I hope we can take home maximum points with our number 7 car.”

Mike Rockenfeller (Porsche 963 No. 5): “The Watkins Glen course is fantastic to drive. I know the track and I can’t wait to get back in the Porsche 963 for our second race in the car. We learned a lot at our debut in Laguna Seca, but unlike many others, we didn’t test at Watkins Glen. So, we have to quickly work out a good setup in practice. If we finish the race cleanly and unscathed, then we should get a good result. I’m not expecting miracles though – we have to be realistic. In a way, the season is only just starting for me, because from now on I can focus fully on the IMSA series.”

Klaus Bachler (Porsche 911 GT3 R No. 9): “We tested at Watkins Glen about a month ago. The track is super cool with plenty of grip – significantly more than the circuits in Long Beach and Laguna Seca. Watkins Glen is really fast and offers several overtaking opportunities. It’s going to be fun because the LMP2 and LMP3 classes are back. With such a packed grid, it should be an action-packed six hours. We’re currently in third place and are in the fight for the championship. So, we must be well prepared, make it safely over the race distance and score as many points as possible.”
