CREW CHIEF TRAVIS PETERSON:

“There is always pressure, but we want to keep this steak of top-10 finishes at Darlington intact for Michael. This is tough track and a long race. Michael has done a great job of saving the car and being there at the end.”

DRIVER MICHAEL MCDOWELL:

“First, thanks to Stage Front VIP for their support at Darlington. This is such a cool weekend and a fun race. It’s a big challenge, but last year we had really fast cars in both races. That’s really given us a lot of confidence that we can go into Darlington and get a good result.

“We’ve had some speed this year, but we need to pick it back up and get a good finish.”

Meyer Shank Racing Seeking to Jump-Start 2023 Season at Indy Road Course

#06: Helio Castroneves, Meyer Shank Racing Honda

Pataskala, Ohio (9 April 2023) – The Month of May couldn’t come at a better time for Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) as the Ohio-based team looks to jump-start its 2023 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season with a visit to the site of some of its best performances.

The 2.439-mile, 14-turn Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, site of Saturday’s GMR Grand Prix, has provided many of the milestones and pride points for MSR beginning with the team’s first visit in 2019, where it scored its first-ever IndyCar podium finish.

That legacy of success, which includes not only MSR’s first podium, but also its first front-row start and first laps led in the series, continued growing last year when Simon Pagenaud came from 20th on the grid to finish second.

Pagenaud’s 2022 podium was the most recent in a long history of success at the circuit for the Frenchman, who won the inaugural series event on the road course in 2014. The trip to Victory Lane was the first of a trio of wins for Pagenaud at the twisty IMS layout, followed by a 2016 effort where he took the pole and led 57 laps on his way to the top spot. He snared his third victory in 2019, passing for the lead on the penultimate lap of the day to take the win.

Helio Castroneves has threatened in a number of road-course races at Indianapolis, finishing third in 2014 and second to Pagenaud in 2016. The Brazilian has also led in three separate races for a total of 46 laps.

The 85-lap GMR Grand Prix will air on NBC on Saturday starting at 3:30pm ET. Friday’s qualifying will be shown live on Peacock beginning at 4:00pm ET. SiriusXM will also host live IndyCar Radio coverage of both sessions on XM Ch. 160.

MSR INDYCAR Driver Quotes:

Simon Pagenaud:

“I’m pretty excited to officially start the Month of May at Indy. We had a great test on the Speedway, but first is the Indy Grand Prix which has been an event that has treated me very well. Hopefully we can get on the podium once again like last year, so I really look forward to that race.”

Helio Castroneves:

“The GMR Grand Prix is coming, which means the Indianapolis 500 is coming. The GP is first and that’s sort of like preparation and getting warmed up for the Indy 500. I know the MSR cars have been quick on the road course at Indy, so I’m hoping we can have a little more luck this year and start the Month of May off strong.”

Todd Gilliland and the No. 38 Serial 1 Premium E-Bikes Ford Mustang Team Darlington Raceway Competition Notes

TEAM AND RACE NOTES:

It’s NASCAR Throwback Weekend for Todd Gilliland and the No. 38 Serial 1 Premium E-Bikes Ford team. Gilliland and the team are proud to help celebrate NASCAR’s 75th Anniversary and its annual throwback weekend.

Helping to make the weekend special, Serial 1, an E-Bike company, will honor former NASCAR Xfinity Series winner Elton Sawyer by racing the livery of the No. 38 Ford Sawyer raced in the 1997 and 1998 seasons.

The Serial 1 E-Bikes Ford will take on the “Lady in Black” starting with practice and qualifying on Saturday. The 400-mile race is set for 3:00 p.m. ET on Sunday.

COMPETITION NOTES:

Gilliland has two previous starts in the NASCAR Cup Series with a best finish of 15th at the 1.3-mile track in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Gilliland also has three starts in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series at the track. He had a best finish of fourth for FRM.

CREW CHIEF RYAN BERGENTY:

“This is a cool weekend for everyone in the sport. I love that Serial 1 E-Bikes is joining the team and helping the sport and celebrating throwback weekend with us.

“The Elton Sawyer throwback looks cool. I’m sure that we’ll throw some ‘Darlington Stripes’ on it, but I think Todd will have a great race. We’re going to keep him focused and give him what he needs.”

DRIVER TODD GILLILAND:

“Throwback Weekend is so fun. Our No. 38 Serial 1 E-Bikes Ford is awesome. It’s cool to honor Elton Sawyer with one of the coolest schemes in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. We hope to give him a good run to honor him on Sunday.”

Lizard Lamborghini Quartet Descends on Laguna Seca for Super Trofeo Double Header

SALINAS, Cali., (MAY 9, 2023) – The long-awaited start to the 2023 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America season has arrived, and the four Flying Lizard Motorsports entries head into the first two races of the year with great anticipation. The weekend’s festivities at WeatherTech Raceway in Salinas, California will consist of two 50-minute races, with a field comprised of 33 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo2 race cars, competing in four different classes.

“We are really excited to get the 2023 racing season started and it is great to have the season opener at Laguna Seca,” said Program Manager Darren Law. “Although this is not our home track it is “almost home” for u,s as it is only a few hours away from our shop in Sonoma. We have had a lot of success here and we hope to continue that trend. The Super Trofeo series is extremely competitive, and this year will not be any different. It is a great series and this year we are stepping up our program with four cars for the full season with drivers that all have the ability to win.”

After a successful freshman season in the Super Trofeo series, where the team earned one championship, four wins, eight podiums, and 16 top-five finishes, the Sonoma-based squad returns with a stronger and larger effort to take on the 2023 titles.

Drivers Tom Tait (No. 64) and Slade Stewart (No. 14) have returned to their trusty steeds, with Tait racing the bright green and red entry in the Am class, and Stewart in the bright pink, fan-favorite unicorn car in the Pro/Am class. This year, the 2022 LB Cup class champion advances to the Pro/Am class, joined by longtime coach and Flying Lizard driver Andy Lee.

The two new additions for the team’s Super Trofeo entries will be headed up by previous Lizard drivers, Paul Nemschoff (No. 41) and Chris Bellomo e (No. 68), both of whom have been competing with the Lizards in various Porsche racing programs over the years. Racing the red, black, and grey Lamborghini, Nemschoff will race in the Pro/Am class, sharing the driving duties with Lizard newcomer and racing veteran Marc Miller.

Bellomo’s entry marks the return of Flying Lizard co-founder and longtime team driver Johannes van Overbeek. The pair will pair up for the team’s third entry in the Pro-Am class, racing a luminescent orange and grey livery.

The 2023 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America championship allows for both professionals and amateurs to race in the one-make series across the country, competing in four classes: Pro, Pro/Am, Am, and LB Cup. Each entry in the series can have either one or two drivers per car, with one mandatory pit stop required for all cars mid-race in a ten-minute window. In order, the series will host doubleheaders at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, Watkins Glen International, Road America, VIRginia International Raceway, and Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The championship will conclude in Vallelunga, Italy where the North American competitors will fight in two final rounds for their series, then two more against all worldwide Lamborghini Super Trofeo competitors for the world title. Hexagon and Hendrick Motorsports partner to drive racing innovation

10-YEAR TECHNOLOGY PARTNERSHIP INCLUDES SPONSORSHIP OF QUALITY CONTROL LAB AT HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS

CONCORD, N.C. (May 9, 2023) – Hexagon has joined 14-time NASCAR Cup Series champions Hendrick Motorsports as its official metrology hardware and software provider for the next decade. The shared goal of the partnership is to take the race team’s performance to the next level by applying the latest scanning, measuring and digitization technologies from Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division.

Running through 2032, the 10-year agreement includes Hexagon’s presenting sponsorship of a 3,000-square-foot advanced Quality Control Lab on Hendrick Motorsports’ Concord, North Carolina, campus. The technical partnership provides the all-time winningest team at NASCAR’s top level with the ability to enter competitive environments with additional confidence as the team closes in on its milestone 300th Cup victory and 500th NASCAR national series engine win.

“A relentless focus on quality, accuracy and attention to the finest details is what wins races and championships in NASCAR,” said Jeff Andrews, president and general manager of Hendrick Motorsports. “In today’s environment, the level of competition is very high, and we must maximize everything we can control. Hexagon’s precision products provide us peace of mind as we enter race weekends on the cusp of some remarkable milestones. With this landmark decade-long commitment, we look forward to celebrating many exciting achievements together in the future.”

The integration of a variety of Hexagon metrology technologies new to Hendrick Motorsports will enable the team to measure a higher volume of parts as it strives to meet tight racing deadlines and production lead times. Making performance gains is especially challenging when the team is at the top of its game, and the new technologies will help it make more informed choices about what components and assemblies are ideal for the track. Tolerance differences of even a few thousandths of an inch can make or break top performance of valve-train components, such as rocker arms, push rods and valve springs. The ability to collect metrology data quickly and easily will help the team decide what combination of components will yield the best performance.

“Partnering to provide technologies that will help Hendrick Motorsports continue to make race- winning performance innovations is an exciting opportunity and further strengthens the long-time relationship we have maintained,” said commercial operations manager Scott Grumbles of Hexagon. “In providing metrology solutions that offer more flexibility, capacity and accuracy, the goal is to ensure Hendrick Motorsports has the tools it needs to confidently push the limits of performance and keep crossing the finish line first.”

New collaborative robotic inspection capabilities will help eliminate inspection bottlenecks, as they will allow the team to automate unattended measurement so that it can devote more valuable manpower to other mission-critical tasks. The addition of three new coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) will provide greater inspection capacity while ensuring the organization has the technology needed to diversify both probing and non-contact measurement capabilities. Increased inspection flexibility will help it more efficiently and accurately scan part surfaces in their entirety and inspect challenging reflective materials, such as carbon fiber. The new Quality Control Lab at Hendrick Motorsports will also include portable laser scanners that simplify the measurement of components throughout the facility.

SAD DADDY Hunting Blinds was on board for Boyd’s first win at Talladega in 2019.

“This one has special meaning,” remarked Boyd. “SAD DADDY has been supporting me for years so I’m excited to see their neon green deer skull finally make it to my truck’s hood. Joey took me and my dad hunting and he has become a trusted friend over the years. Sometimes people think sponsors are just stickers on a race car. There are people behind those stickers and the people behind these SAD DADDY stickers are hardworking, honest, God-fearing, salt of the earth people. I’m honored they choose to support me.”

SAD DADDY prides themselves in building a quality, 100% American made hunting blind. Each of their blinds provides optimal comfort and shelter in some of the harshest hunting conditions. At SAD DADDY Hunting Blinds they strongly believe in God and family values. They are extremely honored to build a product that promotes spending time with family and carrying on the great tradition of hunting.

At SAD DADDY hunting blinds, we are dedicated to quality, affordability, and most of all, customer satisfaction. We know Spencer and his team share similar values and that is why we align so well, outside of similar interests of hunting and racing. I do have to say, ‘sorry not sorry’ that we didn’t want to do a throwback truck. We HAD to have our unique brand out there for our first race!”

SAD DADDY Hunting Blinds & Feeders are now available in over 43 dealer locations throughout the southeast.

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Darlington Raceway on Friday, May 12, 2023 airs live on FS1 at 7:30pm ET.

Notes of Interest

● Darlington (S.C.) Raceway is home to the Official Throwback Weekend of NASCAR, and for Sunday’s Goodyear 400 NASCAR Cup Series race, drivers and teams use their racecars to turn back time by running throwback liveries. The racecars are the canvas where the paints of the past come alive. For Kevin Harvick and the No. 4 team of Stewart-Haas Racing, they’re throwing it back to the paint scheme Harvick was originally scheduled to race when he made his Cup Series debut back in 2001 with Richard Childress Racing (RCR). America Online, the venerable web portal and online service provider that gave us the ubiquitous “You’ve got mail!” alert, was set to be Harvick’s sponsor, but the death of Dale Earnhardt on the final lap of the season-opening Daytona 500 thrust Harvick into the car Earnhardt used to drive. Earnhardt’s iconic No. 3 was changed to the No. 29 and a 25-year-old Harvick was the new face of RCR. The AOL-sponsored No. 30 originally earmarked for Harvick ultimately went to Jeff Green, with a delayed debut at the 10th race of the season at California Speedway in Fontana. Twenty-three years later, Harvick finally gets to drive his AOL-inspired paint scheme with sponsor SUNNYD, where the logos of the Harvest Hill Beverage Company’s brand aligns with the styling SUNNYD carried on its early aughts packaging. The most refreshing orange drink in existence has taken a fresh look on a paint scheme that almost never existed.

● Darlington is known as “The Track Too Tough To Tame,” but Harvick has tamed the venerable 1.366-mile oval three times, the second-most of any active NASCAR Cup Series driver. The 47-year-old racer from Bakersfield, California, owns two Southern 500 victories (2014 and 2020) and one win in the track’s 400-mile race.

● The 2023 season marks Darlington’s 73rd anniversary, with the egg-shaped oval having hosted 123 NASCAR Cup Series races. The first came on Sept. 4, 1950 and it was the first 500-mile race in NASCAR history and the first on asphalt. Johnny Mantz drove his Plymouth to the win with an average speed of 75.250 mph and the race took 6 hours, 38 minutes and 40 seconds to complete. Juxtapose that with Harvick’s win in the 2020 Southern 500. His Ford Mustang had an average speed of 132.256 mph and the race finished in 3 hours, 47 minutes and 26 seconds.

● COVID-19 stopped racing in its tracks in 2020. After the checkered flag dropped March 8 at Phoenix Raceway, NASCAR went on a 10-week hiatus as the world grappled with the scale of a pandemic not seen since the Spanish Flu of 1918-1919. NASCAR had to navigate a brave new world, and the sport was one of the first to return to action when racing resumed May 17 at Darlington. It was a welcome surprise, as one version of NASCAR’s hypothetical return featured a start date of Oct. 25 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a stretch of 30 races in 64 days that would wrap with three straight races at Phoenix… on Jan. 1-3 of 2021. In a time of great uncertainty, seeing sports’ return with NASCAR pacing the field proved both prideful and poignant. Harvick never let off the gas even as the season ground to a halt. He focused on all the little details that go into wheeling a 3,400-pound racecar around tracks faster than 39 of his competitors. The result? After finishing second March 8 at Phoenix, Harvick one-upped that result by winning in NASCAR’s return to racing May 17 at Darlington.

● That win on May 17, 2020 at Darlington was Harvick’s milestone 50th career NASCAR Cup Series victory. Harvick led 159 of the race’s 293 laps to secure his 11th straight season as a Cup Series winner. His career win total now stands at 60, which puts him 10th on the Cup Series’ all-time win list.

● Among active NASCAR Cup Series drivers, Harvick leads the following categories at Darlington:

● Most starts: 30

● Most top-fives: 13 (next best is Denny Hamlin with 12)

● Most top-10s: 18 (next best is Hamlin with 16)

● Most laps led: 813 (next best is Hamlin with 792)

● Most laps completed: 9,937 (next best is Kurt Busch with 9,571)

● Note: Hamlin leads the series in wins at Darlington with four, while Harvick stands alone with three wins.

● Who are the all-time leaders at Darlington? Check out these eye-popping statistics:

● Most starts: 65 by Richard Petty

● Most wins: 10 by David Pearson

● Most top-fives: 25 by Petty

● Most top-10s: 34 by Petty

● Most laps led: 2,391 by Petty

● Most laps completed: 17,120 by Petty

● Note: The 17,120 laps completed by Petty translates to 23,434.11 miles, almost equal to the equatorial circumference of the Earth (24,901 miles).

● Harvick has proven immensely consistent at Darlington outside of the NASCAR Cup Series. He has made 16 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at Darlington, finishing among the top-10 nine times with a best result of third in September 2017. Harvick has also made two NASCAR Truck Series starts at Darlington, with a best result of fourth in March 2002.

Kevin Harvick, Driver of the No. 4 SUNNYD Ford Mustang

What stands out the most for you at Darlington?

“I know the characteristics of the racetrack, as far as having to respect it and racing the track. I know what that means, and I’ve definitely been in the wrong position and got carried away and had it bite me before. But it’s a place that I look forward to going to. It’s a place where I enjoy racing and love the challenges that go with it. I think over the last several years we’ve been fortunate to have some success there, and the expectation is to go there and have a chance to race up front and put yourself in contention. So, that’ll be the expectation as we go back this time and, hopefully, we can do that and have some fun.”

What skillsets are rewarded at Darlington?

“Darlington favors the guy who can be very disciplined and is able to push the car right to 99.9 percent of where that tire run is, and be able to put the car up against the wall and not overstep those boundaries. You have to be very disciplined there to get everything out of the car and keep up with the tire fall-off and not tear anything up – on your own, let alone being around everybody else.”

Is competing at Darlington about racing the track and your competitors, or is it more about managing your tires?

“You’ve got to know when to let somebody go, because you can make it a lot harder on somebody to pass than what it used to be with the things that go on aerodynamically with this particular car. The biggest thing that you have to do is get the restarts right and get yourself really singled out, and once you get singled out, then you can start making some different decisions on when to let somebody go, when to not let somebody go, how hard to fight somebody, and things like that. It just takes one moment there to slip up and the right-rear toe link will be knocked off the car. You can rub the car up against the wall, but if you clip that right-rear tire wrong, it’s going to be the end of your night.”

Running that line up against the wall is not the line you typically run. The “Kevin Harvick Line” is along the bottom. Which line is most advantageous, and when?

“With this particular car, you’ve just got to be careful with how much you abuse the tires because it drives off the right-rear tire so much that you have to think about that a little bit differently. It didn’t seem like that was 100 percent the preferred way to do it through (turns) three and four the last time. You’ve just got to be as easy as possible on the right-rear tire.”

What was it like when you won at Darlington in May 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic?

“Darlington in 2020 was one of those types of moments where you didn’t really know what to expect or how it was going to go. Going to the racetrack that day, I felt weird because everybody else was at home and didn’t want to leave, and I didn’t know if I should be on the road or not on the road. There weren’t many people out there, and pulling into the racetrack and going straight to the motorhome, changing your clothes and walking down pit road straight to the car, and not really knowing what to do or where to go and how this was going to go – just barreling down into turn one, and not having any practice or anything that we had done over the last couple of months. There were a lot of questions, but quickly it just turned into a race. Inside the racecar, you had those same emotions and same feelings and same adrenaline and everything that goes with running up front and leading laps and winning the race. But when it really hit home was when I stepped out of the racecar and I had all that excitement and all that enthusiasm and you could’ve heard a pin drop in that place. Really, the only thing I remember about after the race, the one thing that sticks out the most about how quiet it was, Ryan Blaney’s spotter, Josh Williams, yelled from the top, ‘Great job, Harv!’ and I could hear him like he was standing right next to me. We did the awkward interview and before I got back in my car he yelled that from the spotter’s stand. To get our sport back to the racetrack and see the text messages from folks that were in the NFL and Major League Baseball – I got a text from the White House – and just how important that particular race was to be back on the racetrack and, really, what it showed our country and the world what we should be starting to work on doing, and we pulled it off. Winning that race and living all those awkward moments made you realize how important of a moment that was not only for our sport, but the country in general.”

As part of NASCAR’s 75th anniversary celebration, NASCAR is also celebrating its 75 greatest drivers. What’s a NASCAR memory you have that doesn’t involve you?

“That’s a tough question because so much of my life has revolved around all this, but I think Dale Earnhardt winning the Daytona 500 was late enough in my previous life of not being in the middle of it all. I think that was just a huge moment for our sport and RCR (Richard Childress Racing). I didn’t know anything about RCR at that particular time other than what you see from the outside looking in, but what a huge moment for the sport. Some of my memories are seeing Davey Allison coming to Mesa Marin, and watching Joe Ruttman drive around on a flat tire at Mesa Marin and leading an Open Comp race back in the day, or the lights going out while Ron Hornaday and Rick Carelli and Mike Chase were battling for the lead. Mine are a little bit skewed to West Coast racing. Obviously, we watched national races and different moments in the sport, but there are a lot of great moments from the Winston West Series and the Busch North Series. I go back to the pictures of the 50th anniversary and you look at the front of the NASCAR magazine and all of the champions in that particular photo when NASCAR had all the touring series and all the champions together, and you look at that group of drivers and it brings back a lot of good memories.”

NASCAR Hall of Famers will also be honored at Darlington. From the Class of 2023, who stands out?

“Well, I can talk about all of them because I raced against Hershel McGriff, I raced against Kirk Shelmerdine, I obviously raced against Matt Kenseth, but I think if I had to choose just one, I would probably pick Mike Helton just because of the fact that he has been such a big part of my career and helping guide it in ways that you didn’t even know. Mike has always gone out of his way to try to help make you understand. After he would get done chewing your ass, he would bring you in the next week and say, ‘OK, how do you feel? What’s going on?’ He just has this way of communicating with you in such a stern way, but it’s not so stern that you feel like he’s trying to be a jerk. He’s just one of those guys that can deliver a message very sternly and make you understand, but also be your friend at the same time. You respected him. Mike is just an intimidating person, so if he’s the principal in this situation, then you’re really intimidated by him. I really feel like in today’s day and age that if you had a Mike Helton, it would help the drivers because you always knew where you stood with Mike and the things that you needed to do better.”

IMSA preview: Cadillac seeks some Monterey magic

Two Cadillac V-Series.Rs to challenge for GTP victory in conclusion of West Coast swing

DETROIT (May 9, 2023) – Pipo Derani says it’s time to take the next step. Two steps to be precise.

The co-driver of the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac V-Series.R has stood on the third-place tier of the podium in each of the past four IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship races at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. This weekend, in the MOTUL Course de Monterey, Derani and Alexander Sims will seek to deliver the team’s second victory of the season in the Grand Touring Prototype class.

The two-hour, 40-minute race on the 2.238-mile, 11-turn road course marks the 25th consecutive year that IMSA is racing at the track on the Monterey Peninsula and the first for the GTP class that has expanded to nine racecars since last month’s Grand Prix of Long Beach.

The track, with signature Corkscrew turn, will pose another test for all GTP teams as they continue to learn the nuances of their hybrid racecars.

“It’s always a very challenging track with the lack of grip and ups and downs, so it’ll be interesting to see how the new cars react,” said Derani, who joined forces with Sims and Jack Aitken to win the Twelve Hours of Sebring in March.

Cadillac leads the GTP Manufacturer Championship standings and the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac V-Series.R is one point out of the lead in the GTP Team and Driver Championship.

The sister No. 01 Cadillac V-Series.R, co-driven by Sebastien Bourdais and Renger van der Zande, will aim to get untracked after disappointing outings at Sebring and Long Beach.

NBC will televise the race at 3 p.m. ET Sunday, with streaming in the U.S. on Peacock and outside the U.S. on IMSA.com/TVLive. Qualifying will be streamed on IMSA.com/TVLive at 3:50 p.m. ET Saturday. All sessions will be broadcast on IMSA.com and RadioLeMans.com. SiriusXM live race coverage begins at 2:30 p.m. (XM 207, Web/App 992).

Check out the exciting Cadillac production lineup

Spectators can view the Cadillac V-Series roster, including the 2023 Cadillac Escalade-V and the 2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, at the Cadillac display in the midway. Hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday.

What they’re saying

No. 01 Cadillac V-Series.R

Renger van der Zande: “Laguna Seca is a special one; the highlight of my season because of the highlight of my career with the move in the Corkscrew which elevated me in the top class basically. It’s such a classic race. The tarmac is the same, so there will be a lot of tire deg, and the first time with the Cadillac GTP car so that’s going to be interesting setup-wise. There’s a lot to learn about the car still and I think Laguna Seca is another step in that direction and bringing it forward from there.”

Sebastien Bourdais: “We haven’t had the results that we were hoping for so we’re looking to rebound at Laguna Seca. It’s a really fun track when you can get the car in the window. Unfortunately, they haven’t been able to repave the track as we were all expecting, which is going to put a really strong point on tire management. Tire deg is incredibly high on that surface. We know we have challenges ahead. Nothing has really changed on the BoP, so we’ll have to work really hard to be on top. As with every weekend, it’s going to be a fight with the other manufacturers. That’s what makes it fun and hope we can bring the 01 Cadillac to the front and have a great weekend and turn this thing around before Le Mans.”

No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac V-Series.R

Alexander Sims: “Looking forward to just driving the track and trying to get our teeth stuck into understanding how these GTP cars can work best around there. We’re embarking on an unknown journey at each of these circuits that we go to. We sort of do the simulator work, and the engineers have a certain expectation of what it should be in terms of competitiveness for us. Once we’re on the ground, the circuit conditions are inevitably slightly different to what one expects. We have to adapt and try to optimize our package as quickly as possible while still working on the fundamental development of this car as well because we are still in the early stages of development.”

Pipo Derani: “We have seen this year that some tracks that we were stronger with the DPi compared to our competition, such as Sebring and Long Beach, with the new regulation that advantage has vanished. With that in mind, we are hoping that the advantage that our competitors had in Laguna also goes away and we find ourselves with a chance of winning at Laguna. It’s always a very challenging track with the lack of grip and ups and downs, so it’ll be interesting to see how the new cars react to that. Hoping to have a more straightforward strategy this time around compared to Long Beach and not have our results and faith be dependent on a yellow.”

75 TO GO: POCONO 400 COUNTDOWN DURING NASCAR’S DIAMOND ANNIVERSARY SEASON INCLUDES PADDOCK, VICTORY LANE RENOVATIONS

  • Construction is underway for an elevated infield viewing deck and new Victory Lane that will be ready for the July 21-23 Pocono 400 NASCAR race weekend.
  • New Paddock Pass Plus will provide access to a more modern and immersive fan experience in the heart of all the action.
  • “Tricky Triangle” celebrating NASCAR’s 75th anniversary with a special VIP Drivers’ Meeting Experience and a limited $75 Cup Series ticket.

LONG POND, Pa. (May 9, 2023) – While NASCAR celebrates its heritage throughout its 75th diamond anniversary season, Pocono Raceway has an eye toward the future with the July 21-23 Pocono 400 Cup Series race weekend just 75 days away.

Construction is now underway on Pocono Raceway’s “Paddock Plus” project that features the addition of a special-access elevated infield viewing area and new Victory Lane. The new trackside viewing deck will move to the prime location where Victory Lane was previously located, directly behind the pits and across from the start/finish line. The area will provide a superior elevated view of pit lane, track action on NASCAR’s longest frontstretch, and the Cup Series garage area.

The goal of the project is to deliver a more modern and immersive fan experience in the heart of the action as Pocono Raceway celebrates its 50th anniversary of NASCAR racing at the venue.

The project is in conjunction with the introduction of Paddock Pass Plus, which is designed to provide fans with more, easier and better access than in previous years. In addition to the viewing platform access, Paddock Pass Plus holders also will have pre-race access to the frontstretch and driver introductions and, of course, the fan-favorite “Autograph Alley.”

The Paddock Pass Plus is included in tickets for the Skybox, Terrace Club (Sunday), 300 Level (Sunday) and Club Pocono. Infield campers also receive two complimentary Paddock Pass Plus tickets with their site. For fans not holding tickets in those areas, Pocono Raceway is offering an upgrade option. Fans can purchase the add-on to their current ticket at $75 for the entire weekend or $50 for Sunday only.

The project will be completed in advance of the NASCAR race weekend featuring four races in three days, culminating with the Pocono 400 Cup Series race on Sunday, July 23 (2:30 p.m. ET). The Pocono 400 will be joined by the ARCA Menards Series race on Friday, July 21 (6 p.m.), and the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series CRC Brakleen 150 and Xfinity Series Pocono 225 doubleheader on Saturday, July 22 (Noon & 5:30 p.m.).

The other offer is a Level 200 grandstand ticket in the Donohue or Petty Tower for $75. These bench-style seats are located in Turn 1 (Donohue) or Turn 3 (Petty) of the grandstand side.

“More. Better. Easier. We have been saying it all year,” Pocono Raceway President Ben May said. “We can’t wait to welcome fans back to ‘The Tricky Triangle’ in just a few months. Coupled with our ‘Paddock Plus’ project, these special offers are just another way we get to say ‘thank you’ to our fans. It’s really something when you think about it. NASCAR has been racing for 75 years. And for 50 of those years, they have been coming to Pocono Raceway. I can’t wait to have some fans join us at the pre-race drivers meeting.”

CONCORD, N.C. (May 9, 2023) – Spire Motorsports announced today it will join TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, to promote the opening of six TD Bank retail banking locations in the greater Charlotte (N.C.) area, including branding on Corey LaJoie’s No. 7 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 at the NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

“NASCAR is a huge part of the community here in Charlotte,” said Hugh Allen, Regional President of the Mid-South Metro, TD Bank. “What better way to celebrate our first retail location than by teaming up with Spire Motorsports and Corey LaJoie for the iconic Coca-Cola 600. We’re excited to introduce our unexpectedly human brand to the Charlotte area and look forward to seeing some TD Green on the racetrack later this month.”

LaJoie has logged nine previous NCS starts at the legendary 1.5-mile Concord, N.C., oval and earned a venue/race-best 12th-place finish in the 2019 running of NASCAR’s longest race.
