Stewart-Haas Racing: Dover NXS Advance (Cole Custer | Riley Herbst)

COLE CUSTER | RILEY HERBST
Dover NASCAR Xfinity Series Advance
NASCAR Xfinity Series Overview

  • Event: A-Game 200 (Round 10 of 33)
  • Date: Saturday, April 29
  • Location: Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway
  • Layout: 1-mile, concrete oval
  • Time/TV/Radio: 1:30 p.m. EDT on FS1/PRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio

Cole Custer Notes of Interest

  • Cole Custer is hunting another $100,000 as the NASCAR Xfinity Series heads to the fourth and final Xfinity Dash 4 Cash race of the season during Saturday’s A-Game 200 at Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway. After winning his second career Dash 4 Cash prize last Saturday at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway with the No. 00 Haas Automation team, Custer qualified once again for this week’s final round of the four-driver race within the race. He’ll look to finish ahead of fellow Xfinity Series regulars Jeb Burton, Sheldon Creed, and Parker Kligerman. This year’s Dash 4 Cash program started April 1 at Richmond (Va.) Raceway, continued with rounds two and three April 15 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway and last Saturday at Talladega, respectively, and concludes at Dover. Custer first won the $100,000 Dash 4 Cash check after his April 2019 victory at Richmond.
  • The Monster Mile has been the scene of some monster efforts by “Stone Cole” Custer in the past. Saturday’s A-Game 200 will mark his seventh Xfinity Series start on the concrete mile oval. In his last Xfinity Series start there in October 2019, the native of Ladera Ranch, California, led 31 of the final 32 laps and was victorious by a one-second margin over runner-up Justin Allgaier. In the May 2019 race, Custer qualified on the pole and led a race-high 155 of 200 laps before finishing fourth. That came on the heels of his runner-up finish in the October 2018 race, when he led 38 laps and crossed the finish line .525 of a second behind Christopher Bell. Custer finished fourth in his Dover Xfinity Series debut in May 2017 and eighth in the October 2017 race. That all adds up to five top-10 finishes in six starts at Dover, the lone outlier being his 13th-place finish in the May 2018 race.
  • Custer has nine starts at the Monster Mile outside of the Xfinity Series – four in the NASCAR Cup Series, three in the Truck Series, and two in the K&N Pro Series East. Custer never finished outside the top-15 at Dover in the Cup Series. He earned a best finish of 10th in the May 2020 and 2021 races. In Truck Series competition, Custer has a best finish of fifth in the most recent of his three Dover outings, when he drove the No. 00 entry for JR Motorsports in the May 2016 race. He led a race-high 67 of 200 laps en route to a 13th-place finish in the May 2015 Truck Series race for JR Motorsports.

Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

  • Riley Herbst and Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway are an appropriate pairing. Herbst is the driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) and Dover is affectionately known as the “Monster Mile.” At a track that can chew up and spit out even the most seasoned racers, Herbst has acquitted himself well on the concrete mile oval. In his five career NASCAR Xfinity Series starts there, Herbst has four top-10 finishes with a best result of sixth in August 2020. He’s never finished outside the top-20. While still seeking his first Xfinity Series win, Herbst is driving for a Dover Xfinity Series winner. SHR owns two Xfinity Series victories at the track – October 2019 with Herbst’s teammate Cole Custer, and August 2020 with Chase Briscoe.
  • While luck hasn’t been on Herbst’s side the last three races, his confidence has not wavered as he heads to a track that suits his style of racing. His last Dover outing last April resulted in a ninth-place finish in his No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang. He’s also excelled in his 17 Xfinity Series starts the past three seasons with SHR on tracks a mile or less in length, 12 of which resulted in top-10 finishes. He finished fourth earlier this season on the mile oval at Phoenix Raceway, and he hadn’t finished outside the top-10 on a track a mile or less in length since an accident ended his day early in the March 2022 race at Phoenix.
  • Herbst’s solid runs at the Monster Mile aren’t confined to the Xfinity Series. He also has two starts at Dover in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series east. In the 2016 and 2017 races, Herbst finished eighth and seventh, respectively.

Cole Custer, Driver of the No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang

Dover is a tricky track, where trouble seems to sneak up on you quickly. How do you stay out of the grasp of Miles the Monster and get out of that race cleanly?

“I think with going to Dover, you just have to be really smart about different situations and being in traffic. It’s about knowing when to be aggressive and when not to be aggressive. You can get yourself into a really bad bind getting into traffic or trying to pass people. You can also have somebody on your bumper trying to pass you. This track can come out and bite you pretty fast. The key to success here is patience and knowing when to be aggressive and when not to be.”

You’re going for back-to-back Dash 4 Cash prizes after scoring the $100,000 bonus at Talladega. How would it feel to win it again at Dover, a track where you’ve had success?

“Winning $100,000 is a huge deal for our No. 00 Haas Automation Ford team. It’s probably one of the coolest things that Xfinity does in the sport, I think, doing this Dash 4 Cash program. People are going to race hard for it. You know exactly where those three other guys are and how you’re going to race them throughout the day. It means a lot to qualify for the second week in a row, and hopefully we can be the ones to come out on top again. Dover’s been a good track for us, and we plan to pounce on that.”

Riley Herbst, Driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

Luck hasn’t been on your side these past few weeks, but you haven’t seemed to waver in your confidence in both your driving skill and the No. 98 Monster Energy team. What do you have to do to get back on track?

“I don’t really think there’s one thing we have to do in order to get back on track. I feel like at Richmond we would have had a top-three finish if we didn’t get wrecked. At Martinsville, we should have finished sixth to eighth, so that should have been another top-10, but we got wrecked, as well. And Talladega is Talladega, so I feel like our speed is there and just getting back to what we’ve been doing at the start of the year and we’ll be just fine.”

You’ve consistently been a contender up front this year –you’re called a silent contender – even after the unfortunate incidents these past few weeks. What do you feel like you’ve improved upon since your first season with the No. 98 team in 2021?

“I think there are a lot of things, not just one. Consistency on and off the racetrack. Working with my crew chief Richard Boswell and understanding our goals. How to execute on our goals. My life outside of racing is very good. I’m extremely happy when I get to the racetrack and while I’m at the racetrack, and I think that leads to a lot of success. I’m confident every time I strap in behind the wheel. I enjoy what I do, so I think that also leads to good results, and I’m looking forward to continuing that this season.”

Hendrick Motorsports statement on Alex Bowman

CONCORD, N.C. (April 26, 2023) – Alex Bowman, driver of the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Hendrick Motorsports, will not compete in this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series event at Dover Motor Speedway due to a fractured vertebra. He is expected to miss 3-4 weeks.

Bowman, who leads the Cup Series in average finish through 10 points-paying races in 2023, suffered the compression fracture in an accident Tuesday evening while competing in a sprint car event at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa. The 30-year-old driver was treated locally last night and evaluated again this morning in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Josh Berry, 32, will fill in during Bowman’s recovery. Earlier this season, he was the substitute for Hendrick Motorsports driver Chase Elliott in five Cup events with a best finish of second on April 2 at Richmond Raceway. The Hendersonville, Tennessee, native competes full-time for Hendrick Motorsports affiliate JR Motorsports in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, where he has five career wins.

“We’re relieved Alex is home, in good spirits and getting world-class treatment,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. “Giving him ample time and the foremost resources to heal is our top priority. He’s having a tremendous season, and the No. 48 is at the top of its game. We know what Josh is capable of in the race car and that Blake (Harris, crew chief) and the team will continue operating at a high level until Alex is ready to return. He has our full, unequivocal support.”

Hendrick Motorsports will request a medical waiver to allow Bowman to remain eligible for the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs.

TEAM CHEVY CHASES BACK-TO-BACK VICTORIES AT BARBER MOTORSPORTS PARK

DETROIT (April 26, 2023) – Beautiful Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, Alabama welcomes the NTT INDYCAR Series for the fourth race of the 2023 season, and Team Chevy as the defending winner of both the NTT P1 Pole Award and the race.

Pato O’Ward of Arrow McLaren captured the win in last year’s event on the 2.3-mile permanent road course and comes in with a strong start to the 2023 season. Ed Carpenter Racings’ Rinus VeeKay arrives this weekend for his 50th career INDYCAR start and is determined to compete for the win at one of his favorite tracks after capturing last year’s NTT P1 Pole Award. “First road course race of the season and our best race last year,” exclaimed VeeKay. “Barber is a very good track for us. I got the pole there last year but unfortunately only finished third when we were able to win. Hopefully, we can pick right back up where we left off last year!”

With three wins at Barber, the most of any driver in the field, Josef Newgarden of Team Penske looks to capture a fourth victory this weekend on top of his 2015, 2017 and 2018 wins-all powered by Chevrolet, saying he’s “so excited for Barber. It used to be my home track before the Music City Grand Prix,” noted Newgarden. “It’s right down the road, two-and-a-half hours. It’s a rollercoaster of a racetrack and I’ve had some good luck there, some very good cars. Hoping we can put together another good run this year.”

Scoring seven wins since 2012 in the 2.2L V6 Twin Turbo Direct Injection era at Barber Motorsports Park along with eight P1 awards, 15 podiums, and 560 laps led Chevrolet seeks its 108th victory in the Bowtie brand’s 186th INDYCAR race.

“Barber Motorsports Park has been a successful venue for Team Chevy since the 2012 debut of the 2.2 liter V6 engine,” noted Rob Buckner, IndyCar Program Manager at General Motors. “Our Chevrolet engineers have worked well with our teams to develop the right combination to produce seven wins in 10 races at Barber. But we also recognize the high level of competition in INDYCAR at the moment. Our engineers will continue to work hard to find improvements with our teams to keep Chevrolet at the front each weekend.”

“As to the track itself, it represents a number of challenges,” described Buckner. “It’s the first natural-terrain road course of the year. That means lots of elevation change and punishing runoff areas that always get the attention of drivers. Consistent power application and fuel management across the hills and around all 17 corners will be key. There’s nothing more we’d like than to go into the month of May and Indianapolis with another victory at Barber.”

The Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix kicks off with Practice 1 Friday, April 28 at 3:40 p.m. ET, with Practice 2 starting Saturday, April 29 at noon ET. Qualifications then start at 3 p.m. ET Saturday. A final warm up will start race day Sunday at noon ET. All practice and qualifying will be live on Peacock, INDYCAR Radio and SiriusXM Channel 160. The 90-lap, 207-mile race Sunday, April 30 will take the green flag at 3 p.m. ET live on NBC.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

Will Power, No. 12 Chevrolet at Team Penske:

“I really, really enjoy Barber. It’s a very nice facility. It’s a tough track with super high-commitment corners. We were able to test there, and I think we have a pretty good setup. We’ll roll off the truck pretty good, we hope. The series is so tight now; you never know where you’re at.”

Pato O’Ward, No. 5 Chevrolet at Arrow McLaren INDYCAR:

“Barber Motorsports Park is one of the tracks I always look forward to – I’ve loved it ever since I started racing there in junior Formulas. It’s a very fast, very flowy track, and it’s easy to enjoy what a race car has to offer around that place. I’m excited to go back. We’ve had a great package there in the last few years, so let’s see what we can do this year.”

Felix Rosenqvist, No. 6 Chevrolet at Arrow McLaren INDYCAR:

”First road course of the year. Barber Motorsports Park is an amazing track, and it’s probably the biggest physical challenge for us drivers. It’s historically our best road course track, so hopefully we have enough to keep that going.”

Alexander Rossi, No. 7 Chevrolet at Arrow McLaren INDYCAR:

”Barber Motorsports Park is always a thrilling challenge, and I’m eager to take it on this weekend. Our team has shown great performance to start the year, but we need to start getting results. As a driver, you always strive for that perfect balance between precision and aggression, and Barber demands nothing less. I’m excited to see the fan energy as we push ourselves and battle for the top spot on the podium.”

Conor Daly, No. 20 Chevrolet at Ed Carpenter Racing:

“Our team has been successful at Barber Motorsports Park in the past and I’m excited to see what we’ve got this year. Obviously, Rinus (VeeKay) has been really fast there, and I hope to be able to learn from him and improve myself. The No. 20 BITNILE.COM car has been a bit unlucky there in the past couple years, so hopefully we can get things to go our way! The goal is now to kind of restart our season at Barber and get things going in the right direction.”

Rinus VeeKay, No. 21 Chevrolet at Ed Carpenter Racing:

“First road course race of the season and our best race last year! Barber is a very good track for us. I got the pole there last year but unfortunately only finished third when we were able to win. Hopefully we can pick right back up where we left off last year! ECR has won here in the past, so I am excited to go back to such a cool track. It’s a lovely place to race at the end of April. Brings some momentum into May, that’s what we need! We haven’t had a great start to the season, we need to turn it around and Barber is a great track to do that at.”

Santino Ferrucci, No. 14 Chevrolet at AJ Foyt Racing:

“Super excited to head to Barber to carry the momentum off of Long Beach. Haven’t been back for a little while now, so we will see how it goes for the team, but I know that Benjamin’s (Pedersen) rookie test proved successful, so I’m very excited to see what they learned and apply it to this weekend.”

Benjamin Pedersen, No. 55 Chevrolet at AJ Foyt Racing:

“I am really looking forward to being back at Barber this week. This is a track I have experience with and have found success at from F3 to Indy Lights. It will be nice to be back on a track that I am familiar with and it happens to be one of my favorite tracks on the schedule. We had a great test here last month in the No. 55 Sexton Properties Chevrolet, so I am excited to see what we can build on and accomplish as a team when we are on track beginning this Friday.”

The No. 14 Mahindra Tractors team finished inside the top-15 in eight of 10 events on tracks measuring 1 mile or less during the 2022 season. The only time Briscoe finished outside the top-15 was when he spun on the last lap of the Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway dirt race while challenging for the lead, and when his car caught on fire at Richmond (Va.) Raceway in August while running in the top-10.

● In 2020, the dirt racer from Mitchell, Indiana, found his way to victory lane at the Monster Mile in the second race of a NASCAR Xfinity Series Saturday-Sunday doubleheader. Briscoe started last in the Sunday race after going to a backup racecar and proceeded to lead three times for a race-high 107 laps en route to his sixth win of the season. He won the race by a commanding 2.463-second margin over second-place Ross Chastain.

● In total, Briscoe has five starts in the Xfinity Series at Dover, his win in 2020 among his three top-five finishes and four top-10s. He also made one NASCAR Truck Series start at Dover in June 2017, which resulted in a 12th-place finish after earning his first career NASCAR pole.

Chase Briscoe, Driver of the No. 14 Mahindra Tractors Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing:

Your streak of top-five finishes continued at Talladega last weekend, and the team is showing a lot of consistency. How tough is it to keep up momentum at a track that is as physically demanding as Dover?
“It can be tough. It all starts with qualifying and getting that position up front to start with. You need track position, you need a fast car and you need a driver who is going to be on it. You have to drive hard every lap, so it’s very physically demanding and is definitely not a place where you can just ride around and come out with a good finish.”

What makes Dover such a “monster” of a track?
“It is very, very fast. The concrete surface always makes things interesting, and there are some areas of the track where it’s a little rough. You add in the G-forces you get with the steep banking and it gives you a place where you’ve almost got to do everything right or you’re done. You miss your line, you get lapped. Get a little too close to the wall and you’re being lapped or getting wrecked. If you come out of Dover with a win, you truly have earned it.”

You have a Miles the Monster trophy. Where does it rank in terms of the trophies you’ve earned?

“The Dover trophy and win are near the top. The first race of the weekend on Saturday was not an easy one for us. We were so fast and we didn’t have the result to go with it. I think there was a little more determination when we got there on Sunday to redeem ourselves and, like I said, you aren’t just getting handed a trophy at Dover. The whole team put in a lot of effort to get us to victory lane that day. We had a lot of big wins in 2020, but that one ranks pretty high on the list.”

S. Coast Guard, USACE, General Dynamics – Electric Boat, Connecticut DOT, Massachusetts DOT, New York DOT, Metro North Railroad, Amtrak, and various private sector clients.

● We’re heading north this weekend to Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway for the Würth 400 on Sunday, April 30 at 2 p.m. EDT on FS1, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Preece has a strong following in the north thanks to his Connecticut upbringing. In total, Preece has six Cup Series starts at the Delaware track with a best finish of 18th coming in 2021. This weekend’s race will mark his first Cup Series start with SHR. In three Xfinity Series start at the track, he has one top five and one top 10 to his name. He started 11th in 2018 for Joe Gibbs Racing and finished fourth.

● The series took to the high banks of Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway last weekend, the home of Preece’s best Cup Series finish in 2019. He qualified 16th and rallied back after falling off pace in the opening laps of the race to finish ninth in Stage 1. In Stage 2, Preece worked his way back up to the front and finished seventh, gathering more stage points for the No.4 1 team. Unfortunately, he was once again victim of being in the wrong place at the right time and was swept up in a wreck during the race’s first NASCAR Overtime attempt. He ultimately finished with a 34th-place result.

● Preece is coming into his own this season, showing speed on a variety of tracks the series has visited and running up front during multiple events. He had a career weekend at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway a few weeks ago, winning his first Cup Series pole and leading a career-high 135 laps. Preece and the No. 41 team suffered a pit road speeding penalty that ultimately set them back for the remainder of the race. Preece was credited with a 15th-place finish there.

● Ten races into this season, Preece is 28th in the driver standings with 149 points.

● Preece kicked off the 2023 season with a strong showing at the L.A. Coliseum, leading a race-high 43 laps, and ultimately finished seventh after a fuel pump issue. In the next nine points-paying events, he has a best finish of 12th at Phoenix Raceway in March.

● RaceChoice.com, a proud partner of Preece, has launched a special racing experience giveaway for fans. The winner will receive airfare and a two-night stay in Daytona Beach. RaceChoice.com will also give the winners two pit passes for the Saturday night race on August 26 at 7 p.m. ET, preceded by a meet-and-greet with Preece, driver of the No. 41 SHR Ford Mustang. Ryan Preece, Driver of the No. 41 Mohawk Northeast Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing:

Really strong run last weekend at Talladega last weekend until a wreck at the end of the race, what can you take with you from the weekend?

“Yeah, I mean, it’s always great to get stage points and we got them in both stages on Sunday. Points are great and they’re huge when it comes to this points system and the playoffs. Man, I just want our luck to turn around. We wanted to be up there at the end and I think we deserved to be. We had a fast racecar, and we were in it all day long until that ending. We were just in the wrong place there and there was no way to finish out the race then. It’s unfortunate but we’ve moved on and are looking forward to Dover.”

You’ve had some strong runs the last couple of weeks and have really shown what this 41 team is capable of, how much does that motivate you heading into this weekend’s race?
“I’ve always said that you have to start with top-15s or top-10s – consistently running there – then top-fives and chasing wins. I feel like, especially the past four weeks, we’ve been putting races together to have opportunities like that. And just at the end of the race, a lot of things, chaos just breaks out, and sometimes you’re the bug and sometimes you’re the windshield. Ultimately, it’ll be nice when we’re the windshield and not the bug. But I’m proud of the fact that our team, our pit crew – everybody – including our engineers, are working together. It doesn’t always take the fastest car to win anymore. Now it takes execution. That’s something I know that I’ve been focusing on for the past week or so and really just turning my attention more to the little details that it takes to make sure that when Lap 380 is there, you’re still giving yourself an opportunity to have a chance at it.”

You have experience at Dover in your career and you ran the Cup race at the track last season, does that give you any leverage?

“I really enjoy Dover and one of the best parts of it is that it’s a little bit closer to home for me. There’s a sense of familiarity and I love coming from the northeast, so I get excited about heading up there for Dover and other tracks in the area. This is actually a race that I’ve been stressing to Chad (Johnston, crew chief) about. I really felt like we had such a great race car last year. We just never got track position, and we actually had a tire go down a couple times. Then, I believe, when AJ (Allmendinger) lost a tire during the green flag pit cycle, we lost a lap or two and it just kind of put a damper on our day. But from a speed standpoint, we were really fast in practice and had a great race car. I feel like some of the baseline of what we decided to take for this weekend strongly goes off that, and I have high expectations.”

What kind of racing are you expecting this weekend now that we’ve gotten to test the short-track program a few times so far this season?
“Our cars have been really fast at short tracks this year and I’m a short-track guy so really the most important thing for us is going to be assessing the car during practice and having a strong qualifying run. As you all know, it’s Dover, it’s April and it tends to rain a lot up there. So hopefully we can at least get practice and qualifying in – or something for us – and not have to start 30th and work our way up the entire race. That’s the hardest part about these races when we don’t get to put ourselves in the right position from the start. I’m really excited about what we’ve been able to do at these racetracks so far this season and I think this weekend will be a really good one for us. We’ve been working hard on putting everything together and this is one where I think we can emphasize on our strengths. We just want to stay out of trouble because that’s been our crutch this season, we just keep getting caught up in things that ultimately end our run.”

Sam Mayer
No. 1 Accelerate Professional Talent Solutions Chevrolet

  • Sam Mayer returns to Dover Motor Speedway this weekend for only his second NASCAR Xfinity Series start at the 1-mile concrete oval with Accelerate Professional Talent Solutions.
  • The Franklin, Wis. native started second and finished fifth in this race last season. Mayer battled back after losing a wheel during a pit stop in Stage One to earn the top-five finish.
  • The 19-year-old and crew chief Mardy Lindley are no strangers to wins on concrete ovals. The pair recorded three wins in 2019 in the K&N Pro Series East (twice at Bristol and once at Dover) and two in 2020 in the ARCA Series (Bristol and Dover).

Josh Berry
No. 8 JARRETT Chevrolet

  • Josh Berry returns to Dover as the defending race winner. In two starts on the “Monster Mile,” Berry won last year’s event and finished second in 2021. He also owns a career starting average of 5.0.
  • Tracks measuring 1 mile have been good for Berry, as he has the victory at Dover, three top-five and five top-10 finishes and a pole in just eight starts. He’s also led 114 laps, 103 of those at Dover.
  • This weekend, Berry will don the black-and-red JARRETT colors for the third time this season. In his two previous starts this season for the Orrville, Ohio-based logistics company, Berry has finished third and eighth.

Brandon Jones
No. 9 Menards/Pelonis Chevrolet

  • Brandon Jones has made 12 starts at Dover and has recorded one top-five and five top-10 finishes. The 26-yearold’s best finish of fourth came during the 2020 season.
  • Jones 104 laps led at the concrete oval of Dover ranks as the third-most among tracks he has competed on.
  • In addition, Jones has made five starts at Dover in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and scored a best finish of fourth during the 2014 season.
  • Crew chief Jason Burdett has called the shots for 14 races at Dover and has racked up an impressive three wins, 12 top-five and 13 top-10 finishes. His lone finish outside of the top 10 was an 11th-place outing in 2017.

Justin Allgaier
No. 7 Degree Chevrolet

  • Justin Allgaier is a two-time winner at the “Monster Mile” in his NXS career, going to Victory Lane in this event in 2018, and again in the first of a weekend doubleheader in 2020.
  • To accompany the two wins, Allgaier has scored 11 top fives and 15 top 10s in 22 career NXS starts at Dover.
  • The Illinois native’s 11 top fives at Dover are the most at any track that he has competed on in his NXS career.
  • Additionally, Allgaier has led at least one lap in eight consecutive events at Dover and has placed no worse than seventh in his last nine starts overall at the one-mile oval, dating back to the fall of 2017.

Driver Quotes

“Dover is a fun track and I really enjoy racing on the concrete ovals. They really seem to fit my driving style and they are tracks that I’ve had a lot of success at in the past. I had a really good finish last year and Mardy (Lindley, crew chief) and I had two wins there back in our ARCA and K&N days so I am looking forward to getting back there and hopefully we can turn our luck around this weekend.” – Sam Mayer

“Dover has always been one of my favorite tracks. We’ve always seemed to unload here with a lot of speed and I have all the confidence that will be the case again this weekend with our Degree Chevrolet. Last week Talladega didn’t go like we had hoped, but I know that everyone on this No. 7 team isready to go and bounce back on Saturday. If we can just execute like we have here in the past, I think we will have a great chance at fighting for the win when it’s all said and done.” – Justin Allgaier

“Dover has been a great track for me in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. We won a race and an Xfinity Dash 4 Cash bonus there, led a lot of laps and we qualify very well. I also made my first NASCAR Cup Series start there. It just suits my style. We’re still on a good trajectory this season with the top-five and top-10 finishes, but we need a win for JARRETT and there’s no better place to do that than here at Dover.” – Josh Berry

“Dover is a tough but fun track. It’s a place that really widens out as laps are run and you can find speed just about anywhere. JRM has been really strong in Dover and Jason (Burdett, crew chief) has built really fast cars every time he’s been here and I know that will be true again this weekend. It’s a great track to get our momentum rolling and we’re definitely due for a good run.” – Brandon Jones

JRM Team Updates:

  • JR Motorsports at Dover: JR Motorsports has competed at Dover Motor Speedway a combined 83 times in the NXS. Over the course of those starts at the track dubbed the “Monster Mile,” JRM has tallied five wins, 30 top fives and 56 top 10s. JRM’s most recent win came with Josh Berry during the 2022 season.
  • Jarrett: Is your supply chain partner real? Real people, real results, really responsive, really a partner? At Jarrett Companies, the difference is our real people. Toyota Racing – Weekly Preview – 04.26.23

This Week in Motorsports: April 24-30, 2023

· NCS/NXS/ARCA: Dover Motor Speedway – April 28-30
· NHRA: zMax Dragway (Charlotte, North Carolina) – April 30

PLANO, Texas (April 26, 2023) – The NASCAR and ARCA teams take on the Monster Mile in Dover, while NHRA races its second and final four-wide event of the season this weekend in Charlotte.

NASCAR National Series – NCS | NXS

Bell adds another top-10… Christopher Bell is on top of the point standings for another week as the Oklahoma-native earned his series-best seventh top-10 finish of the season at Talladega Superspeedway. Bell led Toyota with a fourth-place finish at Dover last year and owns a NASCAR Xfinity Series victory at the track in 2019.

Four in the top-10 after 10… Talladega Superspeedway was the 10th race of the season and Toyota drivers hold four of the top-10 spots in the points standings, which is tied for the most of any manufacturer. Along with Bell, Tyler Reddick (sixth), Martin Truex Jr. (seventh) and Denny Hamlin (10th) are currently in Playoff positions.

Nemechek plans to take back points lead… John Hunter Nemechek heads to Dover just four points out of the championship lead. The North Carolina-native leads the Xfinity Series in top-10 finishes (seven) and laps led (340) going into this weekend. Nemechek has competed in the last two NASCAR Xfinity Series events at Dover, running in the top-10 in both events before mechanical woes ended both days.

Heim makes Xfinity Series debut… Toyota development driver Corey Heim will make his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut this weekend aboard the No. 24 Toyota GR Supra for Sam Hunt Racing. The Georgia-native has been impressive in every series since joining Team Toyota. Heim scored six wins and a runner-up finish in ARCA competition in 2021 and earned the Truck Series Rookie of the Year title and two wins last season. Heim is the most recent Truck Series victor this year as he swept both stages and won in Martinsville to clinch his first Playoff berth.

NASCAR Regional Series – ARCA

Sawalich looks to extend early lead… After an impressively dominant performance at the season opener, William Sawalich looks to extend his championship lead in his first start at Dover Motor Speedway. The 16-year-old driver won in his debut at Five Flags Speedway in Florida and holds a seven-point advantage in the standings going into this weekend.

NHRA – Top Fuel | Funny Car

Closing in on 200…Toyota is getting ever closer to a major milestone in its NHRA history – 200 victories. After Antron Brown’s 56th Toyota victory in Las Vegas, Toyota currently sits at 196 wins across both nitro classes coming into Charlotte. Toyota earned its first win with Jerry Toliver in Funny Car in 2004, and now holds 148 Top Fuel victories and 48 Funny Car wins.

Torrence back at the top… Steve Torrence is back at a familiar spot for the multi-time champion, as the Texan holds the points lead for the first time this season. Torrence moved to the top spot with his runner-up finish in Las Vegas – his second final round appearance of the season. Charlotte would be a great place to get yet another Four-Wide victory – Torrence won the race in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021.
