Harrisburg, NC (April 18, 2023) – JTG Daugherty Racing announced Cheez-It® Crackers is the co-primary sponsor of Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s No. 47 Kroger® Camaro for the Geico 500 at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday, April 23rd, and the No. 47 Fry’s® Camaro in the NASCAR Cup Series Championship race at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday, November 5th.

“Kellogg and Cheez-It are proud to collaborate with Kroger, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and JTG Daugherty Racing as the co-primary sponsor on car No. 47 this weekend at Talladega,” said Heather McIntyre, Kellogg Vice President National Sales. “This is a valuable relationship which allows us to be in our communities and support a sport our consumers are passionate about. We are looking forward to a great race Sunday!”

Kroger has a strong lineup on the No. 47 for the remainder of the NASCAR Cup Series schedule and is pleased to have Cheez-It Crackers on board again.

“We’re thrilled to have Kellogg back in the Kroger Racing program as a Champion level sponsor” said Barry Craft, Kroger’s Vice President of Grocery Merchandising. “Their support of JTG Daugherty Racing strengthens our overall sponsor portfolio, and we’re excited to see the No. 47 Kroger / Cheez-It Camaro on the track at Talladega Superspeedway. Our driver, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., has three superspeedway wins, including the iconic Daytona 500. We’re confident we’ll be a contender this weekend at Talladega.”

Stenhouse Jr.’s forte is superspeedways, but his talent is also evident on all styles of NASCAR tracks. The 2023 DAYTONA 500 CHAMPION has three superspeedway trophies in his case currently and is after more. At Talladega alone, he has one win, 6 top-five and 9 top-10 finishes entering the 2.66- mile tri-oval course with the No. 47 Kroger / Cheez-It Camaro.

“I’ve had some success at Talladega and at superspeedways in general during my career,” said Stenhouse Jr., who has one win, two top-five and four top-10 finishes so far this season. “We started our season off winning at a superspeedway. Winning the Daytona 500 has given us confidence going into the racetrack each week. We also have a couple top-five short track finishes and one of our four top-10s came at a road course. We’ve been competitive every week at different styles of tracks and that’s a testament to my team working hard and always believing in each other. We’re excited to have Cheez-It on board with us during our journey this season.”

After Talladega, Cheez-It returns to the No. 47 Fry’s Camaro at Phoenix Raceway in the 312-lap NASCAR Cup Series season finale. Stenhouse Jr.’s best finish there is fourth and he has a total of one top-five and two top-10 finishes at the one-mile oval.

He’s also making his second speedway start with Front Row Motorsports (FRM) after finishing 13th in the Daytona 500 in the No. 36 Wellcare Ford Mustang.

COMPETITION NOTES:

The No. 38 Ford team is 25th in owner points heading into the weekend. The team is trying to track down the Spire Motorsports No. 7 team and the 23XI No. 23 team for it’s next positions. A good result on Sunday can close the gap.

Smith will be making his NASCAR Cup Series debut at Talladega, but has three starts at the track in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series. He also has one start and win in the ARCA Menards Series at Talladega.

CREW CHIEF RYAN BERGENTY:

“We come into Talladega with a lot of momentum with our team. We know Zane can come in and continue our success. Talladega is like Daytona, you have to be at the right place at the right time. Zane did a really nice job doing that at Daytona. We just need to give him a good car again on Sunday and let the race play out.”

DRIVER ZANE SMITH:

“I’ve seen the success that Todd is having with this team this year. The have stepped up and have had really good results. I’m just trying to come in and keep that momentum going for the team. I have a little bit more experience after Daytona. That will help.

Leidos, NASCAR Speed Into Lunar Rover Race

Companies Ready to Drive Into Next Phase of Moon-Centric Missions

Colorado Springs, Colo. (April 18, 2023) – Leidos, a Fortune 500® science and technology leader, and its Dynetics team have announced their intention to compete in another moon race through a promotional partnership with NASCAR. The partnership will be a collaboration between two organizations in the areas of speed, safety and reliability. Details of the collaboration as well as the design and technology of the Lunar Terrain Vehicle (LTV) were unveiled during a special event at the Space Foundation’s 38th annual Space Symposium, the premier assembly for the global space ecosystem.

To view the partnership teaser video please click here.

“We are thrilled to unveil our lunar vehicle design and to announce our exciting new promotional partnership,” said Leidos CEO Roger Krone. “This groundbreaking collaboration between Leidos and NASCAR takes both companies into uncharted territory, just like we believe our rover will do for NASA and its astronauts. We aim to pave the way for human exploration of space and inspire the next generation of engineers, scientists and innovators to reach for the stars.”

“NASCAR partnering with Leidos couldn’t make more sense when it comes to this vehicle,” said Pete Jung, NASCAR Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. “With both companies being known for exciting innovations in distinctive fields, this collaboration brings together ideas that normally don’t meet in other developments. We are eager to watch this uniquely designed rover traverse different areas of the lunar surface.”

Leidos is looking ahead to the next phases of NASA’s Artemis program after the successful launch of Artemis I on November 16, 2022. The company has submitted a bid for the Human Landing System Sustaining Lunar Development contract, a critical component of NASA’s efforts to establish a sustainable presence on the moon. In addition, Leidos is currently working on the Universal Stage Adapter (USA) for NASA, a crucial piece of equipment that will enable the transport of large payloads, including the Lunar Terrain Vehicle recently unveiled by the company. Leidos is demonstrating its commitment to advancing the frontiers of space exploration and helping to shape the future of human spaceflight with these projects.

“We are fully committed to supporting NASA’s ambitious plans for lunar exploration,” said Steve Cook, President of the Leidos Dynetics Group. “As an industry leader in space technology, we are uniquely positioned to help NASA achieve its objectives, providing everything from necessary crew mobility to workhorse flexibility for building a lunar base. We believe that our innovative solutions and unmatched expertise make us the ideal partner for NASA as it works to establish a sustainable presence on the moon and beyond. At Leidos, we are proud to be at the forefront of this historic mission. We look forward to continuing our partnership with NASA to push the boundaries of human exploration and discovery.”

The rover design is a masterclass in simplicity, harkening back to the engineering that made the Apollo missions successful, while incorporating modern innovations that prioritize sustainability. The rover’s components have been meticulously designed to support the safety and well-being of astronauts as they drive across the lunar landscape. One innovation stands out: it supports male and female crew members across varying height and weight scales, promoting inclusivity in space exploration. By combining cutting-edge technology with a sustainable design philosophy, Leidos is leading the charge in creating a brighter future for humanity both on and off Earth.

Leidos and its Dynetics team bring a wealth of experience to the table, with a long-standing reputation as trusted providers of advanced space systems and services to NASA. NASCAR, on the other hand, boasts a powerful marketing engine and a passionate fan base, as well as a proven track record of developing high-performance race cars that push the boundaries of what’s possible. Combining their strengths and expertise, this collaboration marks a new chapter in NASA’s quest to explore the universe and push the boundaries of human achievement.

Roush Industries of Livonia, MI, provides automotive design and manufacturing experience for the project. Other project partners include Collins Aerospace, Motiv Space Systems, Moog, A-P-T Research, Sophic Synergistics and the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems at Mississippi State University.

“NASCAR is excited about our promotional partnership with Leidos,” Jung said. “Our partnership can take us to the moon – and potentially beyond.”

After an impressive performance at the Martinsville Speedway that didn’t net the result due to a mechanical failure, Gilliland hopes to be strong again at the biggest track on the NASCAR circuit. Gilliland will lean on his former crew chief, Chris Lawson as the two look to rekindle their past success together. Gilliland finished seventh the last time the NASCAR Cup Series visited Talladega.

CREW CHIEF CHRIS LAWSON:

“I am excited to be working with Todd again. Him and I have known each other for quite some time and know how each other operate. I feel our past success together along with his performances on superspeedways gives us an advantage heading into this weekend.”

DRIVER TODD GILLILAND:

“It’s going to be an interesting weekend. I have all the confidence in Chris. He has been with me since my Late Model days and we even won two championships together when I was running in the K&N Series out West. The trust is there.

“It’s all about surviving when it comes to superspeedway racing. It’s stressful and gets your adrenaline pumping, but I love it. I can’t wait for this weekend.”

NASCAR Commits to Net Zero Operating Emissions By 2035 with Launch of New Impact Platform

NASCAR IMPACT to Drive Long-Term Commitment to Giving Back, Building Communities and Reducing the Sport’s Carbon Footprint

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 18, 2023) – As the global community prepares to celebrate Earth Day, NASCAR today announced its commitment to achieve net zero operating emissions by the year 2035.

The announcement coincides with the launch of NASCAR IMPACT, a new umbrella platform designed to align and advance the sport’s collective efforts around sustainability, community engagement and other impact-driven social initiatives.

NASCAR plans to reduce its carbon footprint to zero across all scope 1 and 2 emissions over the next 12 years through strategic investment, collaborative partnerships, and operational changes.

“As a sport, NASCAR has a responsibility to serve and impact the communities where we live and race while contributing to a healthier planet,” said NASCAR President Steve Phelps. “With the support of our industry, NASCAR IMPACT will drive our strategic sustainability, community and social initiatives as we continue to make progress across these important areas.”

The emissions goal was established following the company’s first comprehensive carbon footprint assessment, completed earlier this year. The study measured total carbon emissions from all NASCAR offices, owned racetracks, national series races, and related operations in 2022, and the results will be used to baseline future emissions reporting.

The measurement also informed NASCAR’s sustainability roadmap and near-term objectives including the pursuit of 100% renewable electricity at NASCAR-owned facilities and racetracks. Priorities over the next five years also include a new sustainable racing fuel, comprehensive recycling across tracks and offices, and EV charging station infrastructure.

As NASCAR makes gains in these strategic areas, progress towards key goals and objectives will be published as part of an annual NASCAR IMPACT Report. This report will measure total impact across sustainability, community engagement, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), and other impact-related programs.

“Commitment and accountability are fundamental to NASCAR IMPACT and the vision we have for this platform,” said Eric Nyquist, Chief Communications & Impact Officer, NASCAR. “As we galvanize the NASCAR industry around our message and focus, and build upon our existing good work, the sport’s collective reach and impact will grow substantially over time.”

The NASCAR IMPACT report will include results and metrics tied to specific departments and functional areas, including The NASCAR Foundation, DEI, STEM education, NASCAR’s sourcing and procurement team working to drive economic impact through supplier diversity, and a social responsibility arm that oversees a national partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the Official Youth Community Partner of NASCAR.

In February, NASCAR and the Chicago Street Race announced a STEM-themed design challenge and curriculum integration that will engage more than 40,000 students within Chicago Public Schools. In celebration of the sport’s 75th Anniversary season, The NASCAR Foundation will host a 75-hour giveathon on May 16-19 with a goal to raise $750,000 for more than 500 nonprofit organizations across the country. Nonprofits can still register to participate at NASCARdaygiveathon.org.

Last season, NASCAR hosted Boys & Girls Club teens at 15 NASCAR Cup Series race events as part of immersive, workforce readiness experiences designed to showcase career opportunities in the industry. In addition, NASCAR reached thousands of club youth through STEM-focused content and activities on Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s digital learning platform, MyFuture.

Volunteerism is another thread woven across the NASCAR IMPACT platform with a focus on empowering NASCAR employees to give back to their communities. New in 2023, all NASCAR employees are provided paid time off to volunteer and support causes and organizations that are important to them.

In addition, NASCAR office locations will each participate in all-day group service projects benefiting local community organizations the week of November 13.
