Coca® Cola Zero Sugar No. 47 Camaro ZL1 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

HARRISBURG, N.C. (March 1, 2023) – For decades, The Coca-Cola Company has celebrated in Victory Lane with multiple NASCAR drivers and teams. Today, the beverage giant adds 2023 DAYTONA 500 CHAMPION Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and JTG Daugherty Racing to their portfolio. Smith’s® and Coca-Cola® Zero Sugar will be the co-primary sponsors on the iconic red and black No. 47 Camaro ZL1 for the 267-lap event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 5, 2023.

“Coca-Cola is proud to partner with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and JTG Daugherty Racing as the co-primary sponsor on car No. 47 this weekend,” said Mike Cinque President Coca-Cola Kroger Team. “This is a valuable partnership, and we look forward to a great race on Sunday.”

As a Kroger Racing Champion-level sponsor, Coca-Cola® has high profile positioning on Stenhouse Jr.’s fire suit, crew fire suits and pit equipment for the entire 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season. Coca Cola® is promoting 6-Pack 16.9 fl oz Bottles at 4/$15 and offering a Hot Digital Offer on Large Pack Cans in Smith’s and all Kroger® Family of Companies leading up to – and during – the race.

“For the 2023 season, we challenged ourselves and the team to strengthen the Kroger Racing program by engaging with shoppers and associates at the division level,” said Barry Craft, Kroger’s vice president of Grocery Merchandising. “It’s great to see Coca-Cola grow its relationship with JTG Daugherty Racing by taking on an expanded role as a Champion-level sponsor in the Kroger Racing program.”

Entering the 1.5-mile tri-oval, Stenhouse Jr. has one top-five and two top-10 finishes at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Stenhouse Jr. is coming off a 12th-place finish at Auto Club Speedway following his unforgettable DAYTONA 500 victory.

“Winning the DAYTONA 500, it’s bigger than I thought I’d feel,” said Stenhouse Jr. “It’s the most excited I’ve ever been in my career. Then we went to Auto Club and had a really solid day. We look forward to continuing the momentum in Las Vegas.”

Live coverage of the Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube will air on FOX, PRN Radio, SiriusXM Radio on Sunday, March 5.

Las Vegas NASCAR Xfinity Series Advance
NASCAR Xfinity Series Overview

• Event: Alsco Uniforms 300 (Round 3 of 33)
• Date: Saturday, March 4
• Location: Las Vegas Motor Speedway
• Layout: 1.5-mile oval
• Time/TV/Radio: 4:30 p.m. ET on FS1/PRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio

Cole Custer Notes of Interest

• After a heart-breaking weekend at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, Cole Custer is ready to focus on parking his No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) in victory lane after this Saturday’s Alsco Uniforms 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Last weekend on the 2-mile Fontana oval, the 25-year-old driver from Ladera Ranch, California, led 46 laps and won the initial two stages before a cut right-front tire stole his chances of earning back-to-back wins at his home track. He ultimately finished 27th, one lap down.

• While last weekend didn’t go as planned for Custer and the No. 00 team, he’s looking forward to heading to a style of track that has been one of his biggest strengths over the years – intermediate tracks. During his most recent fulltime Xfinity Series campaigns in 2017, 2018 and 2019, Custer scored six of his nine race wins on intermediate tracks – Nov. 18, 2017 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Nov. 3, 2018 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, June 29, 2019 at Chicagoland Speedway, July 12, 2019 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Aug. 31, 2019 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway, and Oct. 5, 2019 at Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway.

• The Alsco Uniforms 300 will be Custer’s sixth Xfinity Series start at Las Vegas and his 14th overall. He has seven NASCAR Cup Series starts at the track and one NASCAR Truck Series start. In his five previous Xfinity Series starts at the track, he’s never finished outside the top-11 at Las Vegas in an Xfinity Series car, and he qualified on the pole at each of his last three Xfinity Series visits to Las Vegas – September 2018, and the March and September races in 2019 – all of which resulted in top-10 finishes. His best finish at Las Vegas is third, earned in September 2018.

• In Custer’s lone career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series outing at Las Vegas, he started and finished third in the October 2016 race, driving the No. 00 entry for JR Motorsports.

Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

• Last weekend marked his teammate’s home race, and this Saturday’s Alsco Uniforms 300 NASCAR Xfinity Series race takes place in Riley Herbst’s hometown. The 24-year-old, grew up in the Entertainment Capital of the World, and the family name is well known in Las Vegas motorsports circles. His grandfather Jerry, uncles Tim and Ed, and father Troy are all Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame inductees as championship-winning off-road racers. Now, the youngest Herbst continues his quest to keep the family’s motorsports legacy alive in the NASCAR world.

• Saturday’s race will mark Herbst’s eighth career Xfinity Series start at Las Vegas. The Monster Energy driver has a pair of top-10s in his seven previous starts at the 1.5-mile oval, both of which were ninth-place runs in September 2019 and February 2020. In his most recent Las Vegas outings in 2022, he finished 14th in March and 18th in September.

• With two races complete this season, Herbst is already on a roll. He picked up right where he left off in 2022 with a pair of top-10 finishes at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway and Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. After running in the top-three for a majority of the race two weekends ago at Daytona, Herbst perserved and avoided mayhem to finish sixth in the season-opening event. When the series rolled into California last weekend, he used strategy and speed to run in the top-10 for most of the day before ultimately finishing seventh. He hopes to build on that momentum in his hometown this weekend.

• As Herbst seeks victory lane at Las Vegas, his No. 98 team at Stewart-Haas Racing already knows the way. With Chase Briscoe behind the wheel, the No. 98 team swept both races in 2020. Briscoe started second, led a race-high 89 laps, and beat runner-up Austin Cindric by 2.874 seconds in the February race. He then backed up that victory in September by starting on the pole, leading a race-high 164 laps, and beating runner-up Noah Gragson by 1.370 seconds.

Cole Custer, Driver of the No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang

You were on a roll last weekend at Fontana, leading laps and winning the opening two stages before a cut right-front tire ruined your chance for the win. How do you recover from a race like that and bounce back?

“It’s tough, for sure. Our Ford Mustang was super fast and it was a car capable of winning. I think from Fontana, it gives us a lot of confidence that we can go out there and contend for the win in these races. It’s frustrating to get a finish like that, but we have all the tools to make it happen and get to victory lane. Now, we just need everything to fall into place.”

You’re heading to Las Vegas, where you’ve had some solid runs in the past. What’s the expectation heading into this weekend?

“Going into Vegas this weekend, it’s been a solid track for us. It’s been a place that we’ve wanted to improve at from the past with the Xfinity Series program. We’ve really worked on that this season by looking at old notes, working in the Ford simulator, and other forms of preparation. We’re hoping to have a good weekend there. The team has some good ideas on how to improve at Vegas, so we’ll try to do just that.”

Riley Herbst, Driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

It’s time to head back to your hometown. What’s the feeling as you get ready to race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where luck hasn’t always been on your side?

“Anytime you head home, it’s exciting. We haven’t always had the best of luck in the No. 98 Ford Mustang at Las Vegas, but in 2022 we were able to persevere through some difficult situations to score decent finishes. I think we’ve learned a lot since then though. We’ve grown as a team, and I’ve grown as a driver. I’m hoping that we can showcase that when we go back this time and earn the finish that we deserve.”

You’re off to a strong start for 2023 and picking up where you left off in 2022 with back-to-back top-10s to start the season at Daytona and Fontana. Does that give you an extra boost of confidence as you start this long season?

“Yes and no. I think you have to take it one race at a time, but I’m obviously happy to start off the season strong like that. We haven’t always had that, and I think it’s a testament to the hard work that we put in together as a team. Having Cole Custer as a teammate has helped me out a lot as far as leaning on him for information or learning from him, but I think the No. 98 team in general has grown from that first season together in 2021. It helps build confidence to get these runs, but the ultimate goal is always victory lane. We’ll always be hungry for that.”

Rev Racing and Nick Sanchez ready for Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Nick Sanchez (Photo by James Gilbert/Getty Images)

Concord, NC — After weather put a damper on Rev Racing’s debut in Daytona, Nick Sanchez and the team are ready to get back to action at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the Victoria’s Voice Foundation 200. Sanchez is set to take the track Friday, March 3rd at 9:00pm EST where he will pilot the No. 2 Gainbridge Chevrolet for the second time in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS).

Sanchez’s rookie start in the NCTS quickly became one for the history books when he was able to secure the Pole with a 49.478 lap, becoming only the 6th driver ever to secure the pole in their debut.

Sanchez not only secured the pole but finished in the 5th and 4th position in the first two stages, respectively, until a late race pit for minor adjustments and the final caution due to weather ultimately ended the team’s night. Sanchez finished 26th.

“Daytona went pretty smooth,” said Nick Sanchez. “Results didn’t show it for reasons out of our control but most importantly my team and I had a plan and stuck to it. Obviously, I’m still learning how they operate, so I’m constantly conforming to that but for our first race together it went extremely well. In my head, my season starts in Vegas. There’s been a lot of preparation from my team and I and we have high expectations for Friday’s race.”

This will be Sanchez’s second time at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where he competed last year in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in October. During that race, Sanchez started 20th and finished 12th. Sanchez is ready to continue his momentum from Daytona and his experience at the track last year.

“Our results in Daytona certainly didn’t demonstrate where we were capable of finishing,” said Danny Stockman, Crew Chief of the No. 2. “Despite Nick’s rookie status in the series, we are increasingly impressed with Nick’s commitment and passion for honing his craft. We are looking forward to Vegas and feel very confident that we will yield good results.”

Sanchez will take to the track Friday on the 1.5 mile track where the race will last 124 laps and over 200 miles. Qualifying will take place at 2:05 PM, local. The race will broadcast live on FS1, the Fox Sports App, and receive coverage on MRN and SiriusXM.

Notes of Interest

● Ryan Preece will make his seventh NASCAR Cup Series start Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and his first with Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR). In his previous six outings on the 1.5-mile desert oval, he posted a best finish of 15th in the March 2021 race.

● Preece has made two NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at Las Vegas and tallied a best finish of sixth after starting 34th in September 2018 for Joe Gibbs Racing. He’s had one NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start at the track, and it came last season for David Gilliland Racing. He started fifth and finished fourth, leading three laps.

● Preece was a victim of circumstances last Sunday at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, getting caught up in a nine-car accident on a lap-88 restart. To that point, he had worked with the No. 41 team on adjustments that would enhance the racecar’s performance in clean air. He was credited with a 33rd-place finish.

● Preece opened the 2023 points-paying season with a strong showing in the 65th running of the Daytona 500 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Preece and the No. 41 Ford Mustang qualified 20th and had the best 10-consecutive-lap average in final practice. On race day, he finished second in Stage 1 and was running up front for a majority of Stage 2 until being involved in a multicar incident in turn two on lap 183. Preece was unable to return to the race and finished 36th.

● Returning to the SHR No. 41 Ford Mustang in 2023 is HaasTooling.com, the cutting tool division of Haas Automation led by team co-owner Gene Haas. HaasTooling.com was launched as a way for CNC machinists to purchase high-quality cutting tools at great prices. Haas Automation, founded in 1983, is America’s leading builder of CNC machine tools. The company manufactures a complete line of vertical and horizontal machining centers, turning centers, rotaries and indexers, and automation solutions.

Ryan Preece, Driver of the No. 41 HaasTooling.com Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing:

What’s your mindset heading into this weekend’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway?

“We’ve got to get to Las Vegas this weekend and be on offense. We’re in a big hole right now and we’ve got to start digging ourselves out of it. Last weekend’s finish in Fontana was a really bad ending for our team. We got caught up in something that shouldn’t have even happened. We didn’t get the chance to really see how our car would have been in clean air after we worked for a majority of stage one to get things right. That’s a bummer all around and this team is really focused on turning things around in Vegas.”

What happened during that multicar accident that put you out of the race at Fontana?

“It was kind of stupid, to be honest with you on a professional level – we all wreck on a restart. I don’t know what happened, but just a victim of circumstances. It sucks. I was racing around Aric (Almirola, SHR teammate), and we were just trying to be smart and get to the end of the race. Something like that, you’re not expecting everyone to wreck coming to the restart line. It’s unfortunate. That adjustment could have gotten us a lot better, and we could have kept on making little gains. That was our goal, not to beat ourselves and just be there in the last 50 or 60 (laps). That’s why we stayed out that run, to see what our car would do in clean air and if we needed to work on it, which we did, and I felt like we just kept on making it better and better. It was really a bad ending for the No. 41.”

Your last Cup Series start at Las Vegas Motor Speedway was in 2021, and now you’ll make your first start at the track in the Next Gen car. What’s the racing like at Las Vegas and what do you expect this weekend?

“Las Vegas is a place that I typically like and look forward to going to. This is our first time with the Next Gen car for myself and Chad but I feel confident about it. Leading up to this weekend, I feel pretty excited just about the direction we’re heading in and hopefully bringing some speed and having a good day. Speed hasn’t been in an issue for us this season. The speed is there, we’ve just got to get a good finish for our No. 41 Ford Mustang team and I think Las Vegas can be the place for that.”

Driver Quotes

“I am pretty pumped to head to Las Vegas this week coming off of the great run we had at Fontana with a second-place finish. We have had some awesome qualifying runs and great finishes at 1.5-mile tracks so I am really looking forward to nailing that down in Vegas. My No. 1 team has worked so hard to give me a fast Accelerate Professional Talent Solutions Chevy and I know we can keep that momentum going and solidify a great finish this weekend.” – Sam Mayer

“Las Vegas has been a really strong track for everyone at JR Motorsports these last couple of years. Jim (Pohlman, crew chief) and everyone on this BRANDT Professional Agriculture team has worked really hard getting this Fontana car swapped over and ready to go for practice on Friday, and I know that we will carry over that same speed from last weekend when we hit the track. If we can just execute like we have been to start this year, I think we will be right where we want to be at race end on Saturday.” – Justin Allgaier

“My Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Boats & ATVs team has always run pretty well at Las Vegas, and that track just seems to fit my driving style. We’ve won twice there in four starts, so there’s something about it. Going into this race, we’re confident that we can be really good there again. We’ve had speed so far this season, and I’m looking to put the whole race together this weekend and put it back in Victory Lane.” – Josh Berry

“This Menards/Jeld-Wen team has built really fast cars to start this season, we just haven’t had any luck go our way. JRM has been the class of the field at Vegas the last couple of years, and I know that speed will carry on through this weekend. Hopefully Lady Luck is on our side and we can be competing for the win at the end of the race. This team deserves it.” – Brandon Jones

Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team Looking for Another Strong Run at Vegas

As Harrison Burton and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane team head into this weekend’s Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway they are proud of their performances in the first two races of 2023 but confident there are better finishes ahead.

Burton and the No. 21 Mustang led laps late in the season-opening Daytona 500 and rallied from a slow start last weekend at Auto Club Speedway to post a top-15 finish there.

Now they’re headed to the 1.5-mile Las Vegas track that in recent seasons has been one of the more successful venues for the Wood Brothers. In the past seven years, the Woods have posted six top-10 finishes in 12 races, including two runner-up runs, with only one finish worse than 16th.

Crew chief Brian Wilson said Burton and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team can use their notes from last year at Las Vegas plus what they learned last weekend to prepare for a strong showing this week.

“Last weekend in Fontana the No. 21 Ford made huge gains throughout the race,” Wilson said. “Over the final 50 laps of the race we averaged top-15 lap times and scored a solid 15th-place finish.

“Heading into the Las Vegas weekend we look to build off our growing notebook. For this weekend Goodyear will bring the same tire combination as Fontana, so many aspects of the setup should transfer over. We also had a solid race weekend last fall during our last visit to Las Vegas.

“We’ll attempt to blend the best of those two notebooks to continue our progress and improve our competitiveness.”

Wilson said he and the team are achieving their goal of picking up where they left off at the end of the 2022 campaign.

“So far this season our average finish in 20.5,” he said. “This is similar to where we ended last season, but everyone on the Motorcraft/ Quick Lane Ford knows we left a great finish on the table at the end of the Daytona race.

“We know we’re capable of even better finishes.”

Practice for the Pennzoil 400 is set for Saturday at 10:35 a.m. (1:30 p.m. Eastern Time) to be followed immediately by qualifying.

Sunday’s 400-mile race is scheduled to get the green flag just after 12:30 p.m. (3:30 p.m. Eastern).

Stage breaks are planned for Laps 80 and 165.

FOX Sports 2 will carry TV coverage of practice, with FOX Sports 1 covering qualifying. FOX will broadcast Sunday’s race.

The first INDYCAR campaign spot of the year – “ZERO” – focuses on the fierce race for victory at the season-opening Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg presented by RP Funding at St. Petersburg, Florida, where exactly ZERO mistakes can be made by the driver hoping to stand atop the podium Sunday, March 5.

In the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, every track and every race is different – but the one thing they have in common is their combination of breakneck speed, harrowing turns, epic crashes and unbeatable competition. As the season progresses, INDYCAR will introduce a new spot, tailored to various stops on the NTT INDYCAR SERIES calendar and narrated by a driver with a special tie to that event.

“We know our racing is the best on the planet, and we know there’s no greater challenge in motorsport than winning an NTT INDYCAR SERIES race,” said Penske Entertainment President & CEO Mark Miles. “From a very personal and engaging perspective, our drivers are going to tell everyone what makes our sport unique and what it takes to win at each specific venue.”

Spots will run from Wednesday to Sunday of Race Week and are part of a larger multichannel, national media plan.

INDYCAR partnered with creative agency Motive to develop the spots and with local Indianapolis agency EchoPoint Media as a paid media partner. The next spot will be unveiled ahead of the PPG 375 on Sunday, April 2 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Live coverage of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg presented by RP Funding starts at noon ET Sunday, March 5 on NBC, Peacock, Telemundo Deportes on Universo and the INDYCAR Radio Network.

Toyota Racing – Weekly Preview- 03.01.23

This Week in Motorsports: February 27-March 5, 2023

· NCS/NXS/NCTS: Las Vegas Motor Speedway – March 3-5

PLANO, Texas (March 1, 2023) – NASCAR keeps the racing going on the West Coast as the top three series compete at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend.

NASCAR National Series – NCS | NXS | NCTS

Bell plans to continue strong start… Christopher Bell earned his first career NASCAR Cup Series pole last season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and led 32 (of 274) laps before finishing 10th. The Oklahoma-native has earned top-10 finishes in two of his last four starts at the mile-and-a-half facility.

Truex desires to add another Vegas victory to his tally… Martin Truex Jr. has battled through adversity to earn top-15 finishes in both races to start the season and is looking to add to his 31 career Cup Series wins with a visit to victory lane in Las Vegas. The former Cup Series champion has won twice at Las Vegas Motor Speedway – in this race in 2017 and in the fall event in 2019.

Hamlin looks to close in on 50 wins… Denny Hamlin, who continues to sit at 48 career NASCAR Cup Series wins, heads to another good track for him as he looks to close in on his 50th career victory. Hamlin won at Las Vegas in September 2021 and led laps in both races last season – including a top-five finish in the fall event.

Nemechek plans to continue adding wins… John Hunter Nemechek has had a stellar start to his 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series season as the North Carolina-native followed his runner-up performance in Daytona with a win in the final race at the two-mile Auto Club Speedway on Sunday. Nemechek heads to a special place for him as Las Vegas Motor Speedway was the site of his first Toyota victory just two years ago. He is looking for his first NASCAR Xfinity Series victory at the track but did score a runner-up finish in 2019.

Double duty for Grala, Reddick… Both drivers behind the wheel of Sam Hunt Racing (SHR) Supras will have twice the fun in Las Vegas as they will be competing in two events. Tyler Reddick will make his second start in the No. 24 Toyota GR Supra on Saturday before Sunday’s Cup Series race, while former Truck Series winner Kaz Grala will make his TRICON Garage debut as he wheels the No. 1 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro on Friday night before boarding his GR Supra for SHR on Saturday.

Gray plans to beat career-best finish for second straight race… Tanner Gray started off the season for the new-look TRICON Garage with a strong runner-up finish – which was a career-best run for the 23-year-old New Mexico-native. He heads to one of his best tracks – Las Vegas Motor Speedway looking for his first career Truck Series win. Gray has two top-five finishes at the track, including a third place run in his rookie season and a fifth-place finish in this race one season ago.

Tundra strong in Vegas… Toyota’s Truck Series teams look to continue a strong run of success at Las Vegas Motor Speedway as Tundra drivers have won the last seven races at the track and nine of last 10. Nemechek is among the previous winners who will look for another win in his first race for TRICON Garage.
