The video gives F-150 enthusiasts a closer look at the ins-and-outs of each truck in a format that’s fun and informative.

He begins by discussing the more aggressive stance of the Gen 3 versus the ‘Clark Kent’ version of the Lightning. Moving on to the interior, Justin touches on the screen size, the steering wheel, and seating before moving on to what’s under the hood. Will the Lightings’ speed and fuel savings win out over the familiar face (and sound) of the twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6?

Truck enthusiasts can tune in to AT’s new episode of ‘The Haul’ to find out which F-150 is the winning choice for them. TPC Racing Heads to its “Backyard Track” at VIRginia International Raceway for IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo Doubleheader

TPC Racing Drivers Wesley Slimp, Tyler Hoffman and Billy Johnson Look to Close North American IMSA Super Trofeo Season with a Pair of Podium Performances

DANVILLE, Virginia (August 25, 2022) – TPC Racing and a pair of its Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 teams head to VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) this weekend for a Saturday and Sunday doubleheader that the team and its drivers consider a “Home Game” on a familiar and favorite 3.27-mile circuit in Southern Virginia.

Although Maryland-based TPC Racing is headquartered several hours away from VIR, the relatively close location to the first-class facility makes it a favorite testing and development track for not only TPC’s Lamborghini teams but its wide variety of other sports car road racing and high-performance street-car programs.

The main order of business this weekend is the twin Saturday and Sunday 50-minute sprint races that will bring the North American portion of the IMSA Super Trofeo season to a close. The VIR doubleheader will be the final U.S. race of the championship before the season-ending event in Portimão in Southern Portugal, November 3 – 6, where both the Super Trofeo North America final rounds and the 2022 World Finals will be held.

Both the No. 9 HNTB Companies Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2, co-driven by Wesley Slimp and Tyler Hoffman, and the Pro-class No. 71 DSC Sport/Erin Levitas Foundation Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 of Billy Johnson are scheduled to go to Portugal. A pair of podium showings this weekend by both teams would be the perfect launch pad to Portimão, and some recent on-track runs by both the No. 9 and No. 71 TPC entries bode well for a visit or two to victory lane at VIR.

Slimp and Hoffman gave TPC its first Super Trofeo victory in 2022’s season-opening event at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in late April. That win in the LB Cup-class promptly saw race officials elevate the HNTB No. 9 to the Am-class in which Slimp and Hoffman have been on the brink of another victory all summer.

The duo’s most recent top showing was a third-place finish in the Saturday sprint one race weekend ago at Road America. The podium showing followed another third-place finish at NOLA Motorsports Park in May, and Slimp and Hoffman come to VIR in a tight battle for a top-three finish in the season-long Am-class championship. While the championship is realistically out of reach, a strong finish to the season could elevate the No. 9 drivers and team to third and maybe even second in the final season point standings.

Johnson and the No. 71 team have been knocking on the door of their first race win in the top-tier Pro class all summer. Road America was their most competitive race of the season with Johnson starting from the outside front row and leading the first six race laps in Sunday’s final sprint. The race was run in mixed wet-and-dry conditions that produced a string of yellow flags and even a red-flag pause that saw the field switch to rain tires.

The slow-downs and stoppages ultimately didn’t work with TPC’s and Johnson’s strategy but the season-best pace, and gains from a test last week at VIR, have everyone on the No. 71 squad optimistic for a pair of good results this weekend at VIR.

Noticeably absent from VIR will be winning team driver Scott Schmidt who made the tough decision after Road America to end his 2022 racing season early to attend to his successful business away from the track. The unplanned move puts the brakes on a successful season Schmidt had put together in the No. 38 DSC Sport/Erin Levitas Foundation Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2. In the span of the last five races, Schmidt produced a solid record of four podium finishes, including his first Super Trofeo victory in late June at Watkins Glen International. Schmidt has already shifted focus to a return to competition with TPC in the near future.

A full three-day weekend event, Super Trofeo action begins Friday with two practice sessions and qualifying first thing Saturday morning. The first 50-minute race starts at 2:05 p.m. EST on Saturday with the second scheduled to go green at 11:35 a.m. EST Sunday. Both races can be viewed live on IMSA.com/TVLive.

Harris Levitas, TPC Racing Director of Race Operations: “With VIR, it is kind of our backyard track, and we always seem to have very competitive cars there. We had a very successful test there last week with both the No. 71 and No. 9 cars, and we found quite a bit in both cars. I think we have made really good progress in having even better front-running cars. All of the drivers did a great job, and the team has been doing a great job prepping the cars and giving us front-running cars. I think we can show more pace at VIR and hopefully close out the U.S. rounds with podium finishes – or even better – standing on the top step of the podium. We are going to miss Scott Schmidt, who has done a fantastic job and is one of those racing success stories. Coming from little to no background to actually being a front-running and winning driver really shows his commitment. He has really done that and put forward the effort. With the multiple cars that he races, and the different programs we have put together with him and his coaching staff, Scott has really come a long way. It’s unfortunate he can’t make the last two races of the year. He has to step away to take care of his business, but he will be back sooner rather than later.”

Tyler Hoffman, Driver – No. 9 HNTB Companies Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2: “To pay my respects, I recently quoted the great Paul Newman as he originally called VIR heaven on earth. I have to agree. The VIR circuit is a truly rewarding combination of high-speed, high-downforce sectors rolling straight into great passing opportunities while demanding precision the entire time. Virginia International is our home track on the Lamborghini Super Trofeo calendar, and it would be great to get a win there. The points championship is a bit of a stretch this year, but a win would be great to lead us into the World Finals in Portugal.”

We have definitely had things that have held us back all year long due to delayed parts and availability. At Road America, we had the best car that we have ever had. Now, after what we have found between then and now that the car will be even better. Hopefully we will get a result this weekend the team definitely deserves.”

(Aug. 25, 2022) – Before the action heats up on track and NASCAR’s best battle in a pivotal Playoff clash at the Bank of America ROVAL™ 400, fans at Charlotte Motor Speedway will be treated to an entertaining weekend of music, motorsports and fun in the Fan Zone. Driver appearances, fan Q&As and concerts kick off Friday, Oct. 7, with a Joe Gibbs Racing Fan Fest and NASCAR hauler parade. Following the parade, rock legend and Poison frontman Bret Michaels will bring his “Parti-Gras” to the fans with a hit-filled concert of rock, country and pop tunes to crank up the weekend fun.

“The Bank of America ROVAL™ 400 has become one of the most anticipated events of the NASCAR season,” said Greg Walter, executive vice president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway. “When we started planning, we realized that we just couldn’t squeeze all the fun and excitement into two days, so we’re going to kick things off a day early and Rock the ROVAL starting Friday afternoon.”

Joe Gibbs Racing Fan Fest

Joe Gibbs Racing will bring out its star-studded driver lineup to kick off the weekend on Friday, Oct. 7, with the first-ever JGR Fan Fest at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The fan-friendly event will feature driver appearances with Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr. and Christopher Bell at the Fan Stage and an autograph session with all four Cup Series drivers, plus Xfinity Series stars Ty Gibbs and Brandon Jones at the Toyota Racing display.

Fan Fest opens at 4:30 p.m. with a bevy of entertainment, including a Twinstunts motorcycle stunt show, free Ferris Wheel rides, discounted merchandise at select souvenir haulers, fun race-themed concessions, a DJ and more. The first 100 fans to pick up a wristband from the information tent at the Avenue of Flags starting at 4:00 p.m. on Oct. 7 will get access to an exclusive autograph session with all participating drivers. NASCAR Hauler Parade

Following the Fan Fest, Charlotte Motor Speedway will keep the party going as NASCAR’s Cup Series haulers parade into the infield – driving right through the Fan Zone – in preparation for Sunday’s Bank of America ROVAL™ 400. The high-energy parade will be emceed by Trackside Live host Jose Castillo and will feature “drive-up” songs personally selected by each hauler driver. Fans can line the parade route near the Fan Zone and grab a photo with their favorite hauler before it settles into the infield for a fun-filled weekend of white-knuckled racing.

• Back to the beginning. Riley Herbst and the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang team for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) return to where their strong 2022 season began for Friday night’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Wawa 250 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. After a solid recovery in last Saturday’s race at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International, where Herbst rallied for his 15th top-10 finish of the season, the Las Vegas native hopes to score his first career Xfinity Series victory this weekend on the iconic 2.5-mile superspeedway oval, where he kicked off the season with a fourth-place finish. Since then, he’s had a career year in the series, highlighted by a pair of third-place finishes – May 7 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway, and June 25 at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway, where he also earned his second career pole.

• Herbst ran in the top-10 for a majority of the Feb. 19 season opener at Daytona and collected valuable bonus points with his finishes of third and 10th in the opening two stages, respectively. He successfully avoided several accidents en route to his fourth-place finish, which equaled his career-best superspeedway finish first earned at Daytona in August 2020. Herbst and the No. 98 Monster Energy team have had three other strong superspeedway-style outings in 2022. On March 19 at the repaved and newly reconfigured Atlanta Motor Speedway, where racing is now more akin to that of a superspeedway than an intermediate track, the No. 98 team persevered despite overheating problems that put Herbst a lap down early in the race and earned another fourth-place finish. On April 23 at Daytona’s sister track, Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, Herbst brought home a solid seventh-place finish. Herbst claimed another top-10 at Atlanta with a ninth-place result on July 9.

• The Wawa 250 will mark Herbst’s 99th career Xfinity Series start and his seventh on the Daytona oval. In total, Herbst has two top-fives and three top-10s in his six prior starts at Daytona, leading 25 laps along the way.

• Herbst’s “Monster” season, his third fulltime Xfinity Series campaign, has seen the 23-year-old racer equal or better his best finishes at 10 tracks on the schedule. He has already matched his career-best tally of five top-five finishes, first set in 2021. He is also only two top-10s shy of matching his career best of 17 top-10s, which he first earned in 2020. In total, Herbst has 14 top-fives and 49 top-10s dating back to his first career Xfinity Series start on June 17, 2018, at Iowa Speedway in Newton, where he finished an impressive sixth as a 19-year-old.

• Herbst has five starts on the Daytona oval outside of the Xfinity Series – three in the ARCA Menards Series and two in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series – with a best finish of seventh in the ARCA Menards Series season opener in February 2020.

• With four races remaining before the playoffs begin Sept. 24 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Herbst is solidly among the 12-driver playoff field. With his seventh-place finish at Watkins Glen, Herbst passed Sam Mayer for eighth in the driver standings with 613 points, a solid 129 points above the cutoff line. He is the top driver in the standings among those without a win this season. A win at Daytona would lock Herbst into the playoffs, but he can also secure his position by pointing his way into the postseason with continued top-10 consistency through the regular-season finale Sept. 16 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway.

You’ve been solid on superspeedways this year, earning top-10 finishes in all of them. Does that boost your confidence as you head to Daytona?

“It does, but we also understand the reality of superspeedway races. Anything can happen. Anyone can win. I think we’ve done a good job of pulling together some strong races. Daytona and Talladega are tracks where we’ve run up front and led laps, so we know we can be a contender for the win this weekend. I think we just have to put it all together.”

Watkins Glen was a roller coaster of a race for the No. 98 Monster Energy team. But you were able to recover from a spin to collect your 15th top-10 finish of the season. Talk about the solid runs and speed you’ve had as a team this season.

“Watkins Glen was frustrating, but ultimately we proved that we were a team to compete with, just like at Indianapolis. We’re not lacking in speed, and I think we’re all confident in each other. This season has been a complete turnaround from last year and I’m proud of how much we’ve grown. People are taking notice. Our win is coming.”

What’s the strategy for Daytona?

“Our goal is to win and lock ourselves into the playoffs. Daytona is unpredictable though. You can be running your best race and get caught up in somebody else’s mess. Our points cushion gives us the ability to go to Daytona and be more aggressive though. We have to put a strong race together with a good qualifying run, speed in the racecar, and fast pit stops. We’ll see how the race unfolds, but hopefully we can run up front and park our No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang in victory lane Friday night.”

NASCAR CUP SERIES REGULAR SEASON FINALE: DAYTONA

In February, Chevrolet drivers and teams of the NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) took on Daytona International Speedway to not only kick-off the 2022 season, but make the competition debut of the Next Gen Camaro ZL1. A manufacturer-leading 14 wins in 25 races later; the series heads back to the “World Center of Racing” to bring the regular season to a close with the Coke Zero Sugar 400 on Saturday, August 27.

Daytona International Speedway has hosted 150 races for NASCAR’s premier series since its inaugural event in 1959. Within that time span, Chevrolet has recorded a manufacturer-leading 48 victories at the famed Florida venue, including 21 in the track’s summer race. The 2.5-mile, high-banked, tri-oval first hosted the NCS regular season finale in 2020, where Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron not only captured his first career NCS win, but also a playoff berth for his No. 24 Chevrolet team after entering the race only four points above the cutline.

THE TWO FINAL PLAYOFF SPOTS GO TO…

160-laps around the high banks of Daytona International Speedway will determine the final two drivers that will complete the NASCAR Cup Series playoff field. Heading into one of the most unpredictable race weekends of the season; seven drivers from three different Chevrolet teams can breathe a sigh of relief, already securing their spots in the playoff field with a win:

ELLIOTT NAMED 2022 NCS REGULAR SEASON CHAMPION
One title has already been secured prior to the NASCAR Cup Series regular season finale race weekend at Daytona. For the first time in his NCS career, Chase Elliott has been crowned the 2022 NCS Regular Season Champion. After heading into the Watkins Glen race weekend just four points shy, Elliott went on to clinch the title at the conclusion of stage one of the race. Along with the crown, Elliott and the No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports will be granted an additional 15 playoff points to start the 10-race stretch to the championship.

“Congratulations to Chase Elliott and the entire No. 9 Camaro ZL1 team on winning the NASCAR Cup Series regular-season championship,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. Vice President, Performance and Motorsports. “He has delivered consistent results all season. The 2022 season will mark Elliott’s seventh consecutive appearance in the NCS playoffs. The 26-year-old Georgia native has made it to the Championship 4 round the past two season, with 2020 bringing him his first career NCS championship title. CHEVROLET SWEEP AT THE GLEN
It was an all-Chevrolet victory lane at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International last weekend, with reigning NASCAR Cup Series Champion Kyle Larson performing the weekend sweep.

The doubleheader race weekend started out with the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS), where the 30-year-old California native took over the driving duties for the No. 88 JR Motorsports Camaro SS for the weekend, marking Larson’s second NXS start of 2022. In the closing laps of the race, Larson was running third when contact between the leaders provided Larson with the opportunity to power the JR Motorsports-prepared machine to the lead. Holding off road course master AJ Allmendinger to the end, Larson took the checkered flag to capture his first NXS road course win. The victory was the ninth of 2022 for JR Motorsports, tying the record of wins scored in a single season for the Chevrolet team.

Sunday’s action for NASCAR’s premier series started under a lightning delay, with impending weather forcing teams to take the green flag under wet track conditions. Once underway, pit strategy became the name of the game all day, with teams varying between a two- or three-stop approach from atop the pit box. A late-race caution setup the field for a five-lap dash to the finish, led by Hendrick Motorsports teammates Elliott and Larson. Taking the final restart of the race, Larson made a pass for the lead for the first time of the race and never looked back, becoming a back-to-back NCS winner at the 2.45-mile upstate New York road course circuit.

Larson’s NCS victory – his second of 2022 – gave the Camaro ZL1 its manufacturer-leading 14th NCS triumph of the season. Chevrolet has now recorded the win in 15 of the past 16 NCS road course races, while also extending its streak to 11 consecutive on left- and right-hand circuits in NASCAR’s premier series. Larson led the bowtie brand to four top-five and six top-10 finishes. Five different Chevrolet teams were represented in the top-10, making it the third time this season that at least five different Chevrolet teams placed in the top-10 of the final running order of a single race.

ANOTHER CHECKERED FLAG FOR THE CAMARO SS
Kyle Larson and the No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet team’s win at Watkins Glen marked Chevrolet’s 15th trip to victory lane in 22 NASCAR Xfinity Series races, bringing the winning percentage for the Camaro SS to 68%. Of those wins includes 12 of the past 14 races, dating back to Noah Gragson’s Talladega win in April.

Part one of the Daytona doubleheader marks four races to go in the NXS regular season. In the 61 NXS races held at the 2.5-mile Florida venue, Chevrolet or its fellow GM brands have won 51 times. Chevrolet drivers have taken the past two Daytona NXS wins, dating back to Justin Haley’s victory in the August 2021 race, ultimately securing his playoff spot. The track’s most recent NXS winner came from series rookie Austin Hill, who took the season opener in February, his full-time NXS debut with Richard Childress Racing.

Has it hit you yet that you’re going to be running for a Cup Series championship?

“Honestly, no. I know we are preparing to win races and have been working really hard all season. It’s the Cup Series, and its wild to me that we’re going for a championship. When I look back to the races I was running in the Truck Series in 2012, and I was starting and parking, it’s wild to think that as recently as 2018 I was still doing some start and parks – the truck race at St. Louis. It humbling to think just a few years ago I was doing that just to get to the track.”

When you’re doing autograph sessions and you see a big crowd, do you look out and think ‘wow, this really did happen?’

“I just laugh. I can’t believe anyone would want to come listen to me, or get an autograph. I just laugh.”

How does it feel to have someone come up to you and say they want to get involved in racing because of you?

“It feels good. I got into racing because Matt Martin, Mark Martin’s son, would race at my local track and that is who I wanted to be like. There’s avenues across the country at local tracks that kids can get into go karts, flat karts, champ karts, shifter karts, and then once you get above 10 years old now, there’s full size cars that you can race against other kids. It’s something that kept me out of trouble. Even if I never raced in NASCAR, from 12-18 it gave me that passion that I didn’t find in soccer. It gave me the desire to come home and work on my racecar with my dad and grand dad, and friends and family.”

You’ve had success at Daytona International Speedway. How do you negotiate staying out of the wrecks throughout the race so that you can be in contention at the end?

“It’s tough. It’s a game of putting yourself in position. I call it high-speed chess because you know at some point in time you’re going to be vulnerable. You hope that someone doesn’t take advantage of that too much and cause a big wreck. It’s one of those things where you are constantly moving and trying to guess the flow of the pack. I think the best place to be is in the front most of the time, but it’s impossible now with the way we race to keep yourself up there for the entire race. You see guys do it for long periods of time. Denny Hamlin has been pretty amazing at putting himself in the right position as of late. I’m going to do my best this time around to put ourselves in position.”

“It’ll be interesting. It’ll be a wild race – maybe not in the first two stages – but definitely in the last stage when drivers will be going for it. We need to go chase points to try and stay up front all race long to finish second in regular season points and get those 10 extra bonus points. “The feeling is good, honestly. Our group, amongst our team, is just such low drama and we just put our work in, we go to the track, we give it our best effort and we go home. If it went good, great. If it didn’t, we’re going to try harder to do a better job when we go back. That’s really all you can control. So that’s really where our mindset is every week whether we’ve had a good year, a bad year, a mediocre year, a good month or a bad month, coming off a win or a loss. That is something about our team. I’m super privileged to have a group of guys that have their priorities so straight that performance (is what matters) and putting things first that need to go first ahead of things that don’t matter in order to be successful. I feel like our team is just solid and we look forward to going to battle with each other every weekend, and regardless of the result, we’re ready to re-rack and try harder to do better the next week.”

Elliott on superspeedway racing:

“When I sit back and I look at the plate races, yes there are a lot of things that need to go your way, but we see the same guys up front winning those races more times than not. To me, Ryan Blaney and Denny Hamlin are two guys that I see putting themselves in position to win those races as consistently as one can. I think that it’s just a balance that you really have to try to find and it’s one that I can’t say that I’ve really found quite as good as those guys to have odds as good as them. You’ve got to have a knack for it. You’ve got to enjoy it and embrace it. To me, that’s kind of step one of figuring it out is just embracing it. I feel like I’ve embraced it. I don’t know about the figuring it out part, but it’s been embraced.”

How do you approach a race at Daytona where there can be a lot of chaos to be there at the end with a chance to win?

“Earlier this season at Talladega, we kind of just pushed hard all day and we were up front and had a shot to win. I hope to have a similar race like that. Just be up front and avoid the chaos for the most part. We’ll see. It’s different every week, every race on the superspeedways. You have to be mindful of how everyone’s running and judge it from that.”

You’ve won at Daytona and have run well at Talladega, so that has to be good for your confidence. What is the mindset heading into the race this weekend?

“It’s confident. I know we can go do it, I know we can run well there, and I know we can have a shot to win. We just have to execute and hope we’re staying out of trouble and avoid a lot of the chaos and be up there and have a shot. We’ll see. It’s going to be tough for sure to just be there at the end to have a chance, but I feel good about our speed we’re going to have for sure.”

Do you think you will be able to find friends to push you or help you throughout the race?

“I think we’ll have a fast car for sure, so I think there’s going to be people who will want to work with us just because of that. I think speedway’s get a little separated from the other races of the year because of who’s fast and who has a chance. If we’ve got a fast car, I think we’ll find some friends throughout the race.”

You recently announced that you’ll compete in the NASCAR Cup Series fulltime next year with Petty GMS Racing. With the slate of Cup Series races you’re running this year, do you feel like you’re in a much better position to succeed next year because of the seat time you’re getting this year with the NextGen car?

“I think the opportunity with Beard Motorsports and Kaulig Racing have helped. I know how raw I was getting into the Cup car to start the season and how much I’ve learned since then with more experience. That’s definitely been a big help. And with these guys having a full season under their belt this year, if I were to hop in cold turkey next year, it’d definitely be a lot more challenging. But just getting the understanding of the car and how they feel and the level of competition, all of that has helped.”

You now have 10 career NASCAR Cup Series starts under your belt, all with the NextGen car. What is it like to drive that car compared to the Xfinity Series car you race fulltime?

“There are differences just with the car itself. I’ve noticed you have to drive it a lot straighter than the Xfinity car, but I’ve gained more and more experience and more and more confidence each and every race. We’re a little behind just because these guys get to race them each and every week. Every gain that I’ve made during each of my 10 starts this year, they’ve been making them every week and can re-adapt to that week in and week out. It’s a little bit challenging, but I feel like I’ve gotten a better feel for it than I had at the beginning of the season.”

With a playoff spot secured, what is your strategy Saturday night?

“We are going down there to win both stages and then win the race. That’s always our strategy. We want trophies. If you do that the points will always take care of themselves.”

“I think we are. I think we are. The beautiful part is that we get stronger as we go. If you were asking me that question three months ago, I was going to tell you, man, we have work to do. We have the potential, but we have work to do. Two months ago I was starting to believe more. A month ago I would say, heck, yeah. Right now, of course we are here. We just keep getting stronger. I guarantee you in a month from now we’re going to be stronger than right now. We’re going to keep working.”

Zane Smith Set for Future Growth with Front Row Motorsports in 2023

Returns to NASCAR Truck Series and Will Make Select Cup and Xfinity Series Starts

 MOORESVILLE, N.C. (August 25, 2022) – Zane Smith, the 2022 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Regular Season Champion, will return to Front Row Motorsports (FRM) in 2023 to compete in a dynamic schedule that will include defending his regular season championship with the No. 38 team in the NASCAR Truck Series. In addition, Smith will make his Daytona 500 debut with FRM as part of a plan that will include other NASCAR Cup Series starts for the organization as well as possible NASCAR Xfinity Series races in collaboration with FRM.

The plan is part of Smith’s ongoing, long-term agreement and plan for growth with the organization.

“We have been thrilled with the performance by Zane this season,” said Bob Jenkins, Owner, Front Row Motorsports. “We always felt that he was the next breakthrough star in the sport, and he has been proving that this season. We have a plan laid out for him and our next step will be to put Zane and that team in NASCAR Cup Series races where we know we can be successful. We also want to give Zane the opportunity to win more races and a championship with our truck series program, and we are excited to see what he will do next season.”

FRM will tap its potent NASCAR Truck Series team to prepare a third NASCAR Cup Series car and work with Smith during the select NASCAR Cup Series starts as an open car. FRM will support Smith with new business and marketing efforts for Xfinity Series races. Currently FRM does not have plans to enter its own Xfinity Series entry.

The FRM truck series team has led Smith to three wins, fifteen top-10, 10 top-five finishes, and the regular season title. Smith is currently second in points and is competing for the championship.

“Chris Lawson, his team, and Zane have really worked well together this season,” said Jerry Freeze, General Manager, Front Row Motorsports. “We do not want to change that chemistry, but also feel this team is up to the challenge with Zane to compete in the NASCAR Cup Series. We will be strategic as what races we select to enter. We want to allow Zane to highlight what many have seen him do this year at the elite level. Smith has continued to add to an already impressive career on the track this season. He currently has six wins in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series to complement his four ARCA Series wins. Off the track, Smith continues to be one of the sport’s most likeable personalities and is the 2020 NASCAR Truck Series Most Popular Driver. He made his NASCAR Cup Series debut earlier this year with an impressive 17th-place finish and is excited for what is ahead.

Talladega Race-Winning Sponsor Returns to Brown’s No. 68 Chevrolet Camaro After Eight Month Hiatus

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (August 25, 2022) – Brandonbilt Motorsports (BMS) announces today the return of Larry’s Hard Lemonade as the primary sponsor for Brandon Brown’s No. 68 Chevrolet Camaro during this Friday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) race at the Daytona International Speedway.

After an eight month hiatus, Brandon Brown and Larry’s Hard Lemonade are set to make their 16th NXS start as a driver and primary sponsor duo. What first began as a single-race primary sponsorship during the 2020 NXS season opener at Daytona, quickly developed into a successful multi-race program which earned a total of two Top-5 and seven Top-10 finishes. The partnership also saw its first-ever NASCAR victory when Brown took the checkered flag in his No. 68 Larry’s Hard Lemonade Chevrolet Camaro at the Talladega Superspeedway on October 1, 2021. Following their victory, the partnership seemed destined for long-term growth and success. Unfortunately, that growth was stunted after Larry’s Hard Lemonade released an official statement on January 6, 2022, announcing their departure from Brandonbilt Motorsports.

“Many believe that Larry’s Hard Lemonade withdrew its sponsorship of Brandon Brown because of a disagreement between Brandon and myself, however this is something that I would like to address as false. Shortly after our Talladega win, there were a handful of new team affiliates who I felt were influencing some of the team’s decision making in ways that I did not agree with – and for that reason alone, is what ultimately led to the decision for Larry’s Hard Lemonade to withdraw its sponsorship,” said Vic Reynolds, Owner of Larry’s Hard Lemonade. “I recently became aware of the impact that our sponsorship termination has had on Brandon after reading an article which stated that he would be out of the No. 68 for the majority of the remaining 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series races, due to a lack of sponsorship funding which stemmed from speculation about Brandon’s character. This broke my heart to read as I know Brandon to be a talented race car driver and a great human being, whose character has been put into question over previous decisions that were out of his control.”

Burton, DEX Imaging Team Aiming High in Regular Season Finale at Daytona

In his debut run with the Wood Brothers, Harrison Burton drove the No. 21 Mustang into the lead in the season-opening Daytona 500 only to be collected in a crash that sent him airborne and prematurely ended a promising start.

As Burton and the DEX Imaging team return to Daytona International Speedway for Saturday night’s Coke Zero Sugar 400, the goal is to pick up where they left off in February.

“Our first goal for the weekend is to run up front like we did the last time at Daytona, but this time keep all four tires on the ground,” said crew chief Brian Wilson. “The first trip to Daytona was a great start to the year for the No. 21 team.

“We qualified in the top 10, raced near the front in our Duel and led laps in the 500.

“The wreck in the 500 was unfortunate, but we showed that we can compete at superspeedway races.”

Saturday night’s race is the 26th and final event in the Cup Series regular season, the last chance for teams not already assured of a Playoff berth to win a race and join the 16 drivers who will begin the chase for the Cup Series championship.

Wilson said that despite the team’s struggles at times, the No. 21 DEX Imaging team isn’t conceding anything yet.

“As the regular season winds down we know that we’re still building and looking for more consistency in our program,” he said. “But this weekend presents a great opportunity to compete for win No. 100 for the Wood Brothers organization.

“We’ll look to work with our manufacturer teammates to keep Ford at the front on Saturday night.”

There will be no practice at Daytona this weekend. Qualifying for the Coke Zero Sugar 400 is set for Friday at 5:05 p.m., and the 160-lap, 400-mile race is scheduled to start just after 7 p.m. on Saturday with TV coverage on NBC.

Stage breaks are planned for Laps 35 and 95.

You haven’t missed the playoffs since 2009. Is the key to that consistency your experience?

“Well, there are just different ways to race, right? There are different ways to solve the equation, and sometimes we’re going to run fourth, and we have to accept that and be able to say, ‘If we have a fourth-place car, we need to finish fourth.’ On the days when stuff is chaotic and there are cars torn up everywhere and you finish ninth with a 20th-place car, those are really big wins. I’ve done all that. I’ve been on that side of the fence where you’ve had 20th-place cars all year and you have to figure out how to make something out of it. They’re going to have the races, regardless, and you still have to show up. You can’t just quit because your cars are slow. So you just have to figure out how to manage that, and also manage it when you have fast cars, medium cars, know what you have that day and get the most out of that day.”

After one race already at Daytona and another at its sister track in Talladega, Alabama, do you have a good idea of what makes the NextGen car tick in the draft, or is there still a learning curve that’ll continue in the Coke Zero Sugar 400?

“It’s pretty straightforward now. It’s pretty basic stuff, and as we’ve gone through the first two races, you kind of know how hard you can push and shove, and things that you’ve done right and you’ve done wrong, so you should have a pretty good playbook at this point.”

Does blocking remain the necessary evil it’s seemingly always been when it comes to superspeedway racing?

“It is, and blocking’s just part of the game now. You have to utilize blocking and that’s usually what causes half the crashes, either pushing or blocking. And we usually wreck going straight. I don’t like blocking, but it’s a necessity. Blocking is something that has evolved over the years as people have figured out trying to time the runs, and people have figured out when you can block and when you can’t. It’s just a matter of putting yourself in a position where you think you’re making the right move, and sometimes you make the wrong move. It’s just a game of inches. It just really is a high-speed chess match that you have at 200 mph – and Saturday night will be absolutely no different. There will be a big crash. There will be mistakes made. There will be pit errors made. There will be strategy played. But I can promise you we’re all going to race in a pack – and that’s the way Daytona should be.”

What’s the patience level of drivers in the regular-season finale at Daytona?

“You see so many people on different agendas. It’s a chance for everybody to win. It’s a door wide open for everybody.”

Pack racing at Daytona is always dicey, but what is it like when it’s a cutoff race to make the NASCAR Playoffs?

“It’s a way different vibe. There’s not a better spot for it to be than Daytona because it is the ultimate saying – and you say it with an exclamation point – anyone can win, and that is never more true than at Daytona. Everyone knows going in that it’s their last-ditch effort to either make the playoffs or put yourself in position to score more points for the playoffs. Everybody kind of has that, ‘Screw it. I’m going for it,’ mentality in that particular race because they know whatever the scenario is, it’s the last chance to score points, it’s the last chance to put you in.”

Describe the intensity of racing at Daytona.

“You have to be aggressive just for the fact that if you’re not aggressive, it always seems like you’re not going to be where you need to be. Nine times out of 10, the aggressor is going to be the guy who comes out on the good side of things just for the fact that you’re making things happen and you’re not waiting for something else to happen. When you wait for something else to happen, that’s usually when you get in trouble because it’s usually someone else’s mess. It’s best to stay aggressive and try to stay up front.”

When you get to the halfway point at Daytona, is there a sense of accomplishment?

“I think as you look at it, if you can make it through the second stage, hopefully you’ve taken some points out of there, but you’ve at least made it through the second stage. It seems like, especially at the beginning of stage racing, we all kind of lost our minds at the beginning of the first stage, or at the end of the second stage. We’ve had cars torn up before we got started. We could find a way to wreck regardless, whether it’s the first stage, the first lap, the last lap. We can figure it out, you just never know when it’s going to happen.”

Kurt Busch To Miss Start of NASCAR Playoffs

No. 45 Team Remains in Owner’s Championship

Mooresville, N.C. (Aug. 25, 2022) — 23XI Racing announced today that Kurt Busch, driver of the No. 45 Toyota Camry TRD, will miss the start of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs as he continues to recover from an injury sustained at Pocono Raceway. Kurt’s health and well-being continue to be of utmost importance to 23XI and the team fully supports his decision to focus on taking the time to get better.

The decision will also result in the team withdrawing the medical waiver that was requested for Busch to remain eligible for the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, should he have been cleared to return to competition in time.

Busch effectively earned a spot in the playoffs with a dominant win at Kansas Speedway in May. The victory marked Busch’s ninth consecutive year with a win and earned him a spot, at the time, in the playoffs for the 10th consecutive season.

While Busch will no longer be eligible for the Driver’s Championship, the No. 45 team will continue to compete for the Owner’s Championship.

“Kurt has elevated our entire organization this year,” said 23XI team president, Steve Lauletta. “Although Kurt will not be competing for a championship this season, he will continue to play a vital role in the organization as he works with our competition group to keep improving and strengthening the team.”

“As much as I wanted and hoped to be able to get back in the No. 45 car to make a playoff run with our team, it’s still not the right time for me,” said Busch. “In addition to not being cleared to return to racing, I know that I am not ready to be back in the car. I respect the sport of NASCAR, my fellow drivers and the fans too much to take up a playoff spot if I know I can’t compete for a championship this season. The decision was not an easy one, but I know it is the right thing to do. I will continue to take time to heal and strengthen as I prepare to be back in the car and will do all I can to help 23XI continue the success we have had this season.”
