Hagan Takes Mopar 85th Anniversary Funny Car to Semifinals at Heartland Motorsports Park

Menards NHRA Nationals
  • Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) Funny Car driver Matt Hagan powered his Mopar 85th Anniversary-themed Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat from the No. 4 qualifier position to the semifinals at Heartland Motorsports Park in Kansas for the 33rd edition of the Menards National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Nationals Presented By PetArmor
  • Hagan remains second in the Funny Car points standings after his semifinal performance and also clinched his spot in the “Countdown to the Championship” playoff this weekend with two regular season events remaining
  • TSR pilot Leah Pruett drove her Mopar 85th Anniversary Top Fuel dragster from the seventh position on the eliminations ladder to a quarterfinal appearance at the Topeka drag strip and remains sixth in the category’s championship battle
  • Despite a red light start by the Snap-on Tools Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, Cruz Pedregon remains seventh in the Funny Car standings

August 14, Topeka, Kansas — To celebrate Mopar’s 85th anniversary, Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) Top Fuel and Funny Car HEMI®-powered racecars donned new paint schemes to honor the legendary performance brand at this weekend’s 33rd edition of the Menards National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Nationals presented by PetArmor at Heartland Motorsports Park near Topeka, Kansas.

Matt Hagan took his Mopar 85th Anniversary Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat for a best qualifying run of 3.943 seconds at 320.58 mph at the track known as the “House of Speed,” where he holds both ends of the track record for time (3.802 seconds) and speed (338.85 mph) set in May 2017. While this year’s August heat kept the track temperatures between 110 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the weekend and his career best speed safe from any challenge, Hagan’s qualifying effort was good enough to put him fourth on the eliminations ladder. He also clinched his spot in the NHRA’s “Countdown to the Championship” with two more regular season events left after this weekend’s contest, including the Dodge Power Brokers U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis.

Hagan, who took home the Wally trophy from Heartland Motorsports Park in 2017, began his race day against No. 11 seed Chad Green with a quicker start and 3.944-second elapsed time run at 316.52 mph to turn on the win light and advance to the next round, ending a drought that occurred on a difficult three-event NHRA Western Swing.

Hagan had another good performance in his quarterfinal matchup against No. 10 seed Paul Lee with the Mopar 85th Anniversary Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat once again recording a solid lap at 3.999 sec./312.71 mph. That sent Hagan’s Mopar to the semifinals to meet up with No. 1 qualifier Bob Tasca III, where both launched with nearly identical reaction times but as cylinders began to drop and his ride began to push toward the wall, Hagan opted to click it off.

Hagan’s semifinal appearance, along with his three wins and three runner-up finishes this season, keeps him solidly second in the Funny Car championship standings behind points leader Robert Hight.

In Top Fuel competition, TSR pilot Leah Pruett was seeking a good result aboard her Mopar 85th Anniversary dragster to follow up a string of solid performances on the Western Swing that included a win at the Dodge Power Brokers Mile-High Nationals in Denver, a No. 1 Qualifier award in Sonoma, and a semifinal appearance in Seattle.

Pruett’s best qualifying lap of 3.804 seconds at 316.97 mph put her seventh on the eliminations ladder and next to No. 10 seed Doug Foley for the opening round. Pruett took the lead early in the run while her opponent began to smoke his tires. Then she had to pedal her dragster at half-track but was able to regain control and get the round win.

In the quarterfinals, Pruett’s Mopar had the starting line advantage over No. 2 qualifier Justin Ashley but when her dragster began to lose traction Pruett ceded the round win to her opponent. Pruett, who sits sixth in the Top Fuel championship with two regular season events remaining, is now eyeing a position in the top-five ahead of the upcoming Countdown.

Four-time Topeka Funny Car winner Cruz Pedregon qualified his Snap-on Tools Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat 12th for eliminations with a best lap of 4.043 seconds at 284.62 mph to set up a first round pairing with No. 3 seed John Force. The longtime rivals both deep-staged their racecars, with Force going in so far that he flickered the bottom bulb of the tree. That flicker prompted a reaction from Pedregon who hit the throttle prematurely and turned on the red light. Despite the abrupt end to their race day, the Cruz Pedregon Racing team remains seventh in the Funny Car category.

The next stop on the NHRA circuit is the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway, the penultimate event of the regular season, set for Aug. 18-21 in Brainerd, Minnesota.

ADDITIONAL NOTES and QUOTES:

Leah Pruett, Mopar 85th anniversary Top Fuel Dragster

(No. 7  Qualifier – 3.804 seconds at 316.97 mph)

Round 1: (0.148-second reaction time, 4.161seconds at 264.70 mph) defeats No. 10 Doug Foley (0.124/5.149/139.75)

Round 2: (0.071/4.810/225.26) loss to No. 2 Justin Ashley (0.089/3.843/317.57)

“Sometimes you would rather have a little bit of luck on your side and that’s what we had going into eliminations today. We’ve gotten into a comfortable spot with the car because it’s been acting so well to be able to push and we pushed a little too hard in E1 (first round of eliminations). We smoked way down track and I was able to pedal twice and recover, which pedaling hasn’t particularly been my forte. It’s something we’ve been working on as a team and that worked out for us right there. In E2, we had a compound throttle mounting malfunction that hindered our performance after the line. Even though the results don’t quite show it with the win lights, it’s one of the best reacting cars that we’ve had all year. We are making a lot of headway. We’re finally able to reference other tracks now and other situations and build on that. That’s something for the first quarter of the year we weren’t able to do. As we finish out the second quarter, we’re really scaling up our drive.”

Matt Hagan, Mopar 85th anniversary Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Funny Car

(No. 4 Qualifier – 3.943 seconds at 320.58 mph)

Round 1: (0.068-second reaction time, 3.944 seconds at 316.52 mph) defeats No. 11 Chad Green (0.071/4.155/306.26)

Round 2: (0.076/3.999/312.71) defeats No. 10 Paul Lee (0.110/7.341/86.41)

Round 3: (0.062/4.406/223.06) loss to No. 1 Bob Tasca (0.061/4.011/316.30)

“I could definitely taste the final today and wanted it bad up there. Coming off of the Western Swing where we had three first-round exits, I’m really pleased with the momentum we had and the direction we were able to turn the car around in. Qualifying was everything, so it was great qualifying fourth to be in the top-half of the bracket and have a good ladder. We have to stay focused on that Friday night hit and put ourselves in a position to be good for the rest of the weekend, since we’re seeing some hot racetracks that make the conditions a bit tougher on Saturday.

“Unfortunately, something went wrong there in the semifinals. There was some type of ignition issue. It didn’t really fire off all the cylinders. It wasn’t the typical car we had all weekend. I kind of knew something was wrong off the bat, then some cylinders went out and I had to click it off early, so I didn’t hit the wall. My guys are going over everything with a fine-toothed comb to figure out what it was to get ready for Brainerd. Brainerd can sometimes be cool out there, so it’s one of those racetracks where Dickie Venables (crew chief) really shines.”

Cruz Pedregon, Snap-on® Tools Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat

(No. 12  Qualifier – 4.043 seconds at 284.62 mph)

Round 1: (-0.360-second reaction time, 7.982 seconds at 94.20 mph) loss to No. 3 John Force (-0.275/ 23.671/53.29)

“After qualifying in the number 12 spot with the Snap-on Tools Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat we went off against John Force first round and I red lit. As I’m driving back to the pit area I’m thinking what the heck? What just happened? I felt like there was an unusual light flickering and as a driver you’re on a hair trigger. To cut a good light that’s what you have to do. I watched the video, it looked like [Force] rolled in and overstaged which caused his light to turn off and on again, which caused me to go. I thought that was my light and my cue to go. It was a foul nonetheless on my part but the car had a cylinder out too, so it was a struggle this weekend.

“I had a great conversation with the team and we’ll go back and look everything over for Brainerd. We had the best car there last year so we’re really gonna use the strategy we had last year and go back to our notes and look at everything. Weather and temperature should be very similar to last year so I’m confident that we’ll get the Snap-on Tools Dodge turned around.

We have dropped off a bit, but this is a new car and it’s going to take some time to get the bugs worked out. Not only from the mechanical standpoint, but even driving the car. We have a prototype steering to help it drive better, but it’s just different from what I’m used to. We’re coming up to the time of year where we’re going to have to really buckle down here. We’ve got Brainerd and then we’ve got the biggest race of the year in Indy with the Dodge Power Brokers U.S. Nationals coming up. So I’m confident we’ll get things sorted out and be ready for it.”

Team Penske NASCAR Cup Series Race Recap – Richmond

Team Penske NASCAR Cup Series Race Recap
Track: Richmond Raceway

Race: Federated Auto Parts 400

Date: August 14, 2022

No. 2 Menards/Duracell Ford Mustang – Austin Cindric

Start: 33rd

Race Finish: 12th

Stage 1 Finish: 25th

Stage 2 Finish: 17th

Laps Led: 0

Point Standings: 15th (-326)

Race Rundown: Austin Cindric and the No. 2 Menards/Duracell team netted a 12th-place finish after putting up a resilient fight Sunday at Richmond Raceway. Cindric rolled off the grid 33rd in the lineup but wasted little time on his quest to advance up the leaderboard. By lap 15, the Menards Ford had reached 25th, but settled into that position through the end of Stage 1. Receiving four tires, fuel, and adjustments to kick off Stage 2, Cindric navigated the 160-lap segment to position himself in the 17th position at the end of the second segment. Undergoing various pit stops over the course of the final stage, Cindric continued to gain track position, leading him to a 12th-place finish.

Cindric’s Thoughts: Certainly, it was interesting no doubt starting near the rear of the field. Proud of the hustle from my Menards guys all day to make the car better and move forward. We’re making good progress and look forward to Watkins Glen.”

No. 12 BODYARMOR Ford Mustang – Ryan Blaney

Start: 10th

Race Finish: 10th

Stage 1 Finish: 6th

Stage 2 Finish: 5th

Laps Led: 1

Point Standings: 2nd (-116)

Race Rundown: Ryan Blaney drove the No. 12 BODYARMOR Ford Mustang to a 10th-place finish on Sunday afternoon at Richmond Raceway. At the drop of the green, Blaney used some calculated moves to drive from his 10th-place starting spot to sixth early on. From there, he would hold court and finish sixth in the first stage. Excellent work by the BODYARMOR team would get him out fourth as the second stage started. Despite falling back a few spots early, Blaney ran solidly in the top-five for all of Stage 2, despite a car that was becoming more and more ill-handling in traffic. A couple of early cautions at the start of the final stage slightly shuffled pit strategy, with Blaney getting off sequence on tires and battling back from 10th. He would settle into ninth while fighting a BODYARMOR Mustang that drastically changed handling characteristics in the second half of the race. Blaney would fall back to 13th but battled back to finish 10th.

Blaney’s Thoughts: “Big thanks to everybody on the BODYARMOR Ford Mustang. I’ve been coming to Richmond a long time and would’ve been excited with 10th but for sure wanted to get a bit more this time. Just proud of everybody on the crew sticking with me all day and look forward to the next two races. I think we’ve got great shots at Watkins Glen and Daytona, and we’ll be prepared for anything.”

No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Mustang – Joey Logano

Start: 17th

Race Finish: 6th

Stage 1 Finish: 7th

Stage 2 Finish: 1st (Third stage win of 2022)

Laps Led: 222 (Race-high)

Point Standings: 6th (-164)

Race Rundown: Joey Logano and the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Mustang team had a dominant car in the middle portions of the race but fell back late and finished sixth at Richmond Raceway on Sunday. Early in the race, Logano used some very aggressive moves in the second lane to drive into the top-eight just 15 laps into the race. Logano would end the first stage in the seventh position. He would have an amazing restart at the beginning of stage 2 from his sixth place restarting position and took the lead on lap 81. Logano would lead through green flag stops during the second stage and only briefly gave up the top spot as the stops cycled out. Keeping a nearly two-second buffer, Logano would take the Stage 2 victory. Logano briefly fell back to second to begin the final stage but retook the lead shortly thereafter and began working to save his tires. Fellow Ford driver Kevin Harvick began to track Logano down, taking the top spot with less than 70 laps to go. Logano quickly brought the Shell-Pennzoil Mustang to pit road for what would be his final stop of the day. However, over the long run to end the race, the Shell-Pennzoil Ford slipped back to sixth at the finish.

Logano’s Thoughts: “Yeah, I think just as the sun went down and the track cooled off and lost some turn on our car. Kevin (Harvick) and some others got a lot better the last couple of runs in the race. When it was hot and slick that was probably our strength with the Shell-Pennzoil Mustang. We had good turn and then once it cooled off, we lost the turn but still weren’t really good on the exits. Then you start playing defense and running too hard. It was a downhill slope from there. I was hoping for a late race caution, that was our only prayer at the end there. Overall, we got a stage win and playoff points and that is something to be proud of. It stinks when you say we led 222 laps but not the right one.”

10 Things To Remember From The Disney+ South Africa Upfronts

Disney+ is expanding rapidly in a bid to fiercely compete with its rival Netflix. The Walt Disney-owned streaming platform launched its services officially in South Africa on May 18, 2022. Read our guide on how to watch Disney Plus in South Africa, in case you still can’t access it.

The content showcase revealed what Disney+ has to offer for South African viewers and it really lived up to the hype. The virtual event was hosted by Christine Service, Senior Vice President & General Manager of The Walt Disney Company in Africa, along with TVSA.

In this article, we will recap the 10 things to remember from the Disney+ South Africa upfronts.

1. Users can subscribe and log in through a cellular phone number. Alternatively, an e-mail address can also be used but it’s not compulsory. Your mobile phone number will suffice while accessing your Disney+ account anywhere, any time.

For security reasons, a temporary code is sent to you by Disney+ while signing up for the service and logging in. That keeps you away from the hassle of remembering passwords. This feature also means that to access your account by friends or family, they will need to get the code from you. So, you are in full control of the Disney+ account.

Unless you forget or change your phone number, this feature is a welcome addition for those who don’t fancy remembering login details and passwords.

2. Even if you haven’t subscribed to Disney+ yet, you can easily browse the content available on the streaming platform. The streaming platform is compatible with all the major devices, including PCs, Windows, Macbooks, internet browsers, Apple TV, iOS, Android devices, Smart TVs, Chromecast, and other streaming devices.

3. A single subscription allows access to four screens simultaneously, meaning that four users can separately watch their preferred TV shows or films at the same time. The app also lets you download unlimited content on a maximum of 10 smartphones or tablets, making sure that you have enough supplies of content while you are on the go.

4. The service also offers enough parental controls. It offers users the option to make pin-protected dedicated profiles, allowing the parents to have more checks and balances on what their kids can watch. Simply go to the profile you want to apply the parental controls and set the content rating you want a specific profile to have.

5. Episodes of TV shows are mainly released weekly with the show’s premiere having double bills. After the debut, one episode is released each week. The benefit of having TV shows without a binge-able format is to prevent spoilers for viewers who like to watch episodes on a weekly basis. Still, there are a few TV series that are dropped at once with a complete set of episodes.

6. Disney has plans to develop, source, and produce around 60 local productions by 2024 from countries around the world, which also includes South Africa. Countries that have their own localized productions until now include France and Italy.

7. Disney+ was launched with ten local short animated movies in South Africa. Also Iwájú, the African animated show will also be in its new releases line-up once the release date is confirmed.

It is an under-work co-production between Kugali, which is a pan-African entertainment company, and Disney. The movie is based on a comic book series of a similar name. The story is set in a modern and futuristic setting and the themes of the story deal with social class, identity, and challenges to the status quos.

8. Films and TV series are cataloged based on the following six content heads:

The Marvel catalog houses all the Marvel films and TV series exclusively. The Star Wars pivot hosts all of the Star Wars flicks and TV shows while the Star section holds a heap of adult-oriented TV shows and movies, new and classic, comprising:

  • Each episode of The Simpsons
  • The TV series Queens, a series about a 90s girl clan with an aim to regain their fame and swagger
  • The resuscitated Kartrashians
  • Pam and Tommy, the real-life scandalous story of the leaked sex tape of Pamela Anderson and her husband
  • Comey series Atlanta Season 3
  • Ridley Scott’s Death on the Nile, featuring Gal Gadot and Tom Bateman

9. If being a South-African resident this question raises in your mind, ‘Will this have any impact on the National Geographic channel DStv? Well, the answer to that is no!

According to Christine, The Walt Disney Company’s General Manager and Senior Vice President in Africa, the channel will stay the same as it always has been and these parallel channels will keep getting new content as well as Disney+.

10. Last but not least, the ultimate takeaway to remember from this is that if you have not already utilized it, you can watch it 24/7. Like literally, we have done it to test and streamed it 24 hours a day. So, what are you waiting for? Grab your popcorn bucket and start streaming!

7 Useful Tips That Will Help You Avoid Car Accidents and Stay Safe

Every day, traffic accidents occur, and while some may be inevitable, many of them may be avoided. In fact, more than 90% of car accidents are preventable. What can you do, therefore, to prevent a vehicle accident? You can help to make the roadways a safer place by following the rules, resisting the urge to drink and drive, and being a more attentive driver. In other words, the solution is pretty straightforward: apply common sense and observe the fundamental traffic laws.

Know the traffic rules

The most important thing when it comes to driving safely is high-quality driver training, where traffic rules are mastered in detail. However, over time, it happens that drivers forget some rules. In that sense, it is a good idea for drivers to refresh the materials that they may have forgotten if they do not drive for a long period of time. Likewise, it is important to stay updated on car crash stories as this will keep you alert and won’t let you become negligent. The more you know about the importance of safety on the road, the more responsible you will be!

Obey the traffic rules

On the other hand, no matter how many responsibilities you have, breaking the law will only get you to your destination five minutes faster while endangering you and other road users.

Respect the speed restrictions: When you’re behind the wheel, remember that your automobile is a powerful machine. Drive carefully and within the established limits. When you drive too quickly, you lose control of the vehicle. It is more difficult to stop a fast-moving automobile in a split second, and there are times when just a split second is enough to cause an accident. Similarly, failing to use turn signals is one of the ways to cause uncertainty on the road. Therefore, while changing lanes, be careful to utilize your turn signal. By doing this, you not only let the cars around you know what you’re going to do but also how much space you need.

Ship Your Car When Moving Long-Distance

There are many reasons why you should consider shipping your car when making a long-distance move. Driving for long periods of time can be tiring, and if you’re not used to it, it can be dangerous. In addition, the cost of gasoline and other expenses add up quickly when you’re on the road. Shipping your car is a convenient and cost-effective alternative that will allow you to relax and enjoy your move.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when shipping your car:

– Choose the right shipping company: Make sure you do your research and choose a reputable car shipping company like Montway Auto Transport or Amerifreight. An inexperienced auto transporter may damage your car during transit.

– Get quotes from several companies and compare rates: Be sure to get quotes from multiple companies so that you can compare rates and services.

– Make sure your car is insured: Be sure to check with your insurance company to see if your car is covered during transport.

– Prepare your car: Before shipping your car, make sure it is clean and in good working condition. Remove all personal items from the interior and check for any fluid leaks.

– Ship your car early: It’s best to ship your car a few days before your move, so you don’t have to worry about it on moving day. This will also give you time to make arrangements for transportation from the shipping terminal to your new home.

Take a break if you are too tired

According to some studies, tiredness and decreased focus are some of the main contributors to traffic accidents. In that way, to avoid a bad driving outcome, we recommend not driving when you are tired and sleep-deprived. On the other hand, during driving, especially on long distances, you should take breaks as often as possible. In addition, make sure you stop by a restaurant and get some drinking water and sweets to restore concentration in moments of fatigue.

Avoid driving in bad weather conditions

One of the main factors contributing to traffic accidents is fog and poor visibility on the road. Winter weather conditions, including snow, rain, and ice, call for extra gear as well as extreme caution because operating a motor vehicle in such weather conditions takes a lot of practice. Due to insufficient signaling, there are several areas on our roads that are particularly difficult to drive in snow or fog and should be avoided.

By the same token, it is preferable to avoid driving at night. This is because your range of vision is substantially decreased at night, and an approaching car’s headlights might temporarily blind you, which could result in an accident with serious consequences.

When driving, do not use your phone

Recently, using a phone while driving has become a more frequent cause of accidents. It’s important to realize that the road is your primary concern when you’re driving. So, avoid tampering with your phone and avoid situations that require you to glance at the screen. Instead, activate your Bluetooth so that any critical calls or information may be passed via your hearing aid. Your senses won’t be completely focused on what is going on around you, even if you use a hands-free set. A split-second of inattention is all it takes to endanger and kill someone.

Do not drink and drive

Drinking in an intoxicated state can lead to devastating consequences for you and other drivers. This is because alcohol (mis)use is known to substantially decrease cognitive abilities such as concentration and focus – the two key components in the act of driving.

Keep your distance safely

When driving and stopping at a light, you need to be sure that you maintain a safe distance in front of you. It is probable that you will rear-end the person in front of you if you maintain this gap. Likewise, maintaining enough distance from the vehicle in front of you while driving will give you time to react if they suddenly slam on the brakes.

Although safe driving habits may seem so obvious to drivers, in today’s busy driving environment, they are sometimes forgotten, neglected, or just plain disregarded. Exercising this knowledge can help make the roads safer for everyone.

When the content is ready, the email will be in their inboxes as soon as you hit that send button. Your offer and deal will be in front of people within a fraction of a second. You will not have to wait for people to be part of your digital marketing strategy. Being time effective is one of the major benefits of email marketing and can help you boost the business in multiple ways.

  1. Increases Website Traffic:

Apart from all other information in the email, the most important ones are your brand name and website. If people find your email engaging and interesting, they will be attracted to your website. This is the reason why email marketing has been so effective in increasing website traffic. People will not only get to know your online brand but will also increase the number of purchases they make. You can also include links to your social media accounts in your email to increase your engagement there as well.

How Soon Will Quantum Computing Become a Mainstream Technology?

Photo by Jeremy Bezanger on Unsplash

We are fast approaching a technological era when quantum computing will become part and parcel of our daily lives. If you think about it, we’ll soon find ourselves sunk in the tech so deep that we won’t even imagine a world where it never existed.

The same happened with the internet. We practically do everything online. Rather than sending texts, we use messaging apps like WhatsApp, shop online on Amazon instead of going to the physical store and even use ride-hailing services such as Uber instead of waiting for a bus or taxi. Likewise, in countries like Japan, where there are currently no in-person casinos, players prefer playing on online casino Japan platforms instead of planning tedious and expensive tips to Macao or Singapore.

No doubt, if the internet is taken out of the equation today, life becomes intolerable because it has become a basic day-to-day tool. And soon enough, the same will be the case for quantum computing. Heck, with a global internet penetration rate of 63%, most of the world’s population has access to a computing device – which can be considered a bridge to the quantum computing realm. However, before we dive into the question of mainstream quantum computing adoption, we’ll take a few steps back and get to understand what it entails.

What is Quantum Computing?

To grasp how quantum computing works, you need first to understand how normal computing works. A digital computer is an arithmetic machine designed to perform cheap mathematical calculations. Of course, as technology has advanced, there has been a gradual rise of software programs designed to perform more complicated tasks.

As such, everywhere you go today, you will come across a computer performing a task that may seem mundane but has been made possible with a set of highly complicated software. Tasks such as dry-cleaning, loading gas on your vehicle, using your dishwasher or even adjusting your AC, wouldn’t be possible without computing power.

Quantum computing, however, takes things all to a whole new level. It is a new generation of technology that makes use of computers said to be 158 million times more powerful than what we are used to. As you can imagine, there’s insane potential for what a machine running on quantum technology can do. It essentially makes standard computers seem like glorified calculators in this context. So, how exactly does quantum computing work?

The Functioning of Quantum Computing

All the computers in the world work in a pre-defined manner such that they process and store information in the form of binary digits called bits. The bits can only exist in two values that is zero and one. Using these numbers, a computer can then create a binary code that the computer reads to carry out a specific task.

Quantum computing, on the other hand, borrows heavily from the quantum theory in physics, from which its name is derived. In a nutshell, the quantum theory deals with atoms and the smaller sub-particles inside them. And as you dig deeper into the subject, the world of quantum particles is very different from what we are used to. For instance, quantum particles can exist in several states simultaneously. This is sort of the same theory that quantum computing uses.

So, while regular computers can only use zero and one to create a binary code, a quantum computer makes use of both at the same time. Therefore, a quantum computer doesn’t need one process to end to begin another. For example, imagine you are trying to solve two equations at a go. A standard computer would try and solve one before going to another one. Instead, a Quantum computer would try to solve both at a go. This is what makes them exclusively faster than traditional computers.

How Soon Can We Expect Quantum Tech to hit Mainstream Channels?

Quantum computing is still in its infancy stages. However, it is anticipated that industries like finance will undoubtedly have a big boost and will start using it around 2025. Goldman Sachs, a global investment company, recently announced that they’d be able to introduce quantum algorithms to price financial instruments within the next 5 years.

Similarly, according to a recent report dubbed ‘The Next Tech Revolution: Quantum Computing’ from McKinsey & Company, we’ll see the widespread use of quantum computing strategies by 2026. McKinsey & Company is a global management consulting firm that has been in operation since 1926.

Let’s Prep for Quantum in the Meantime

When commercialized, the quantum tech will mean a different ball game altogether. The digital machines we are used to cannot get close to doing the things that quantum computing will be able to achieve. Rightly so, when quantum technology becomes the norm, the Harvard Business Review anticipates ground-breaking advances in the following fields:

  • Chemical and biological engineering
  • Cybersecurity
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Complex manufacturing
  • Financial services.

That said, companies like Goldman Sachs need to lay a proper foundation to reap these gains. And as is the case with adopting any new commercial tech, the anticipated initial costs will likely be high. However, looking at the gains to be made, the investments will almost certainly be worth every penny in the long run.

Harvick victorious at Richmond, Earns 60th career win

Kevin Harvick went to victory lane Sunday evening at Richmond Raceway, taking home the NASCAR Cup Series trophy in the Federated Auto Parts 400 for his 60th career win.

It marked his second consecutive win after ending a 65-race winless drought at Michigan International Speedway last Sunday.

After his triumph at Michigan, Harvick said, “Everybody who doubted us doesn’t know us.”

This week he doubled down.

When asked if he expected to win back-to-back, he said, in part, “You know, I didn’t know. It’s like I said last week, the cars have been running good week in and week out, and you see that we have a lot better understanding of what’s going on with how we adjusted on the car after the first run and were able to get our car handling a lot better. I think as it got dark, the racetrack really came to our Mobil 1 Ford Mustang.”

Harvick is now tied with Kyle Busch on the all-time Cup Series wins list.

He led 55 laps in his No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford, holding off a hard-charging Christopher Bell, who finished second. Chris Buescher, Denny Hamlin and Chase Elliott rounded out the top five finishers.

When Bell was asked what he needed to catch Harvick who had 12-lap fresher tires, he said, “I don’t know, I got held up a little bit there on the front side, and I guess when you’re splitting hairs like that, that probably cost me the race. That’s two races in a row here at Richmond. At the beginning of the year we kind of had that same strategy and barely missed fifth coming to the line, and today it was the win.”

He also acknowledged his pit crew, saying, “The pit crew really came through at the end there with some blazing stops and allowed us to get in front of the 11 (Hamlin) who was on the same strategy as us and get up there and contend.”

Joey Logano, who led a race-high 222 laps, faded in the closing laps to finish sixth, was followed by Martin Truex Jr., Aric Almirola, Kyle Busch and Ryan Blaney to round out the top 10.

Elliott, the current point standings leader, was the only Chevrolet driver to finish in the top ten and acknowledged that the team needs to improve before the Playoffs begin.

“Obviously we want to be better,” he said, “and Michigan was a big time struggle for us. This weekend was too all the way up until the last few runs. We will go to work and try to finish these last two weeks strong and get ready for Darlington.”

With only one open spot left in the Playoffs and two races remaining, Blaney improved his position over Truex to a +26 points advantage after earning 11 stage points throughout the race.

Tune in next week as the Cup Series heads to Watkins Glen International on Sunday, August 21 at 3 p.m. ET on USA, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

NASCAR Top-10 Power Rankings: Richmond

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA - AUGUST 14: Kyle Larson, driver of the #5 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet, leads the field to the green flag to start the NASCAR Cup Series Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond Raceway on August 14, 2022 in Richmond, Virginia. (Photo by Jared C. Tilton/Getty Images)

Note: The quotes in this article are fictional.

1. Chase Elliott: Elliott finished fifth at Richmond, posting his ninth top five of the year.

“Short track racing is the best,” Elliott said. “There were a lot of cars making contact on the track, which I’m sure the fans love. But really, what the fans really want to see are drivers making contact, off the track.”

2. Joey Logano: Logano powered to the Stage 2 win, but faded late and eventually finished sixth at Richmond.

“We led a race-high 222 laps,” Logano said, “but once the sun went down, we struggled to find the right balance. That’s what’s known as the ‘NASCAR gods throwing shade’ at me.”

3. Kevin Harvick: One week after winning at Michigan, Harvick surged late and held off Chris Buecher and Christopher Bell to win at Richmond.

“It was Cup win number 60,” Harvick said. “That’s a number that some of these younger drivers have a hard time fathoming. They hear ‘Kevin Harvick’ and ’60’ and think, ‘I thought he was older.'”

4. Denny Hamlin: Hamlin finished fourth at Richmond.

“Kevin Harvick is the hottest driver in NASCAR right now,” Hamlin said. “Once the NASCAR playoffs start, I contend Harvick will be a ‘4’ to be reckoned with.”

5. Martin Truex Jr.: Truex was clipped early by Ricky Stenhouse Jr. who missed pit road and swerved into the path of Truex’s No. 19 Toyota. Truex fell a lap down but recovered to post a seventh at Richmond.

“Stenhouse’s car was primarily sponsored by Kleenex,” Truex said. “That should come in handy for him because as I’m in a fight to make the playoffs, I don’t need a snot-nosed kid getting in my way.”

6. Ryan Blaney: Blaney ran in the top 10 for the majority of the race on his way to a 10th in the Federated Auto Parts 400.

“My car sported the ‘Body Armor’ paint scheme,” Blaney said. “And in today’s racing climate, I can’t stress enough the importance of having Body Armor. ‘Body armor’ is practically a must-have, especially with Ross Chastain on the track.”

7. Christopher Bell: Bell charged late at Richmond, but couldn’t catch Kevin Harvick and settled for the runner-up finish in the Federated Auto Parts 400.

“I tried my best to catch Kevin Harvick there at the end,” Bell said. “But I just couldn’t get closer to the ‘Closer.’

“But congratulations to Harvick on his 60th win. That’s 58 more Cup wins that I have, and 59 more facial hairs than I have.’

8. Kyle Larson: Larson started on the pole at Richmond and finished 14th, one lap down, in the Federated Auto Parts 400.

“We just couldn’t get the car dialed in,” Larson said. “So it was a frustrating day for me. But I’ve learned that when I’m frustrated, I should keep my head down and keep my mouth shut, with special priority on the ‘keep my mouth shut’ part.”

“But answer me this. Is there a valid reason the Federated Auto Parts 400 is not abbreviated the ‘FAP 400?’ I’m guessing there is”.

9. Kyle Busch: Busch finished ninth in the Federated Auto Parts 400.

“I made contact with Ross Chastain at one point during the race,” Busch said. “But then again, who hasn’t?

“Kevin Harvick tied me with his 60th Cup series win. That does not make me ‘Happy.’ And it may be the first time I’ve been on the same ‘page’ with Harvick.”

10. Ross Chastain: Chastain won Stage 1 and finished 18th at Richmond.

“Another day,” Chastain said, “another wreck that was my fault. I’m pretty sure I’ve set a record this year, for most apologies in one season. My No. 1 Chevy had ‘Be A Moose’ on it; maybe it should have read ‘Be At Fault.'”

Leah Pruett, Driver of the Mopar 85th Anniversary Top Fuel Dragster

“Sometimes you would rather have a little bit of luck on your side, and that’s what we had going into eliminations today. We’ve gotten into a comfortable spot with the car because it’s been acting so well to be able to push, and we pushed a little too hard in E1. We smoked way down the track and I was able to pedal twice and recover, which pedaling hasn’t particularly been my forte. It’s something we’ve been working on as a team and that worked out for us right there. In E2, we had a compound throttle mounting malfunction that hindered our performance after the line. Even though the results don’t quite show it with the win lights, it’s one of the best reacting cars that we’ve had all year. We’re making a lot of headway. We’re finally able to reference other tracks now and other situations and build on that. That’s something for the first quarter of the year we weren’t able to do. As we finish out the second quarter, we’re really scaling up our drive.”

Matt Hagan, Driver of the Mopar 85th Anniversary Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Funny Car

“I could definitely taste the final today and wanted it bad up there. Coming off the Western Swing where we had three first-round exits, I’m really pleased with the momentum we had and the direction we were able to turn the car around in. Unfortunately, something went wrong there in the semifinals. There was some type of ignition issue. It didn’t really fire off on all cylinders.

Next Up

The next event on the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series schedule is the NHRA Nationals Aug. 18-21 at Brainerd International Raceway.

RCR NCS Post Race Report: Richmond Raceway

Austin Dillon and the No. 3 HUK Chevrolet Team Show Speed in Stage 3 at Richmond Raceway

Finish: 16th
Start: 12th
Points: 20th

“I had fun at Richmond Raceway today and everyone on the No. 3 Huk Performance Fishing Chevrolet team did a great job. We started off the race loose. We came to pit road during the stage break and my crew chief, Justin Alexander, made a good call to get my car tightened up during the second stage. We struggled most of the day with the handling of our Chevrolet, but towards the end of the race we hit on a setup that really worked well with the track. We were posting solid lap times in Stage 3, even on old tires. I wish we could’ve had that at the beginning of the race. We would’ve been jamming. All-in-all, we’ll take this 16th-place finish and head to Watkins Glen International.” -Austin Dillon

Tyler Reddick and the No. 8 3CHI Chevrolet Team Work Hard at Richmond Raceway Despite Tough Day

Finish: 31st
Start: 26th
Points: 14th

“We had a tough day in the No. 8 3CHI Chevrolet at Richmond Raceway, but we’ll put it behind us. After we lost track position early, crew chief Randall Burnett and the guys on the 3CHI team made adjustments and it improved the balance on the car. Unfortunately, I got into the wall and then we pitted a couple of times under green because of a vibration. Next week at Watkins Glen International, we need to run well and get every Playoff point we can and I’m sure we can do just that.” -Tyler Reddick
