The History of Gambling from Antiquity to Our Time

Photo by Keenan Constance on Unsplash

The gambling spirit accompanies a person from the moment of birth. And games have accompanied humanity since the dawn of civilization. Lucky games are changing and evolving with humanity, said Darren Keane from Storm International.

First games

The very first game of chance, which is still popular today, is dice – cubes with marked sides. People were playing dice in Ancient Egypt and Rome, India, and China. Even the Bible mentioned dice.

It has not lost its appeal in 4,000 years. After the fall of Rome, the game spread to Europe. In parallel, the inhabitants of the East took a great interest in dice. This game is popular today, people play dice in many casinos in the form of craps or sic bo. By the way, this is one of the most popular games in Asia.

Playing cards is another ancient attribute. You can play hundreds of different card games. The first playing cards were used in China in the 7th century. Traveling through India, Persia, and Egypt they got to Europe.

The 17th century gave mankind to a roulette. We don’t know who exactly invented it. A popular rumor is that the author is the mathematician Blaise Pascal.

The Advent of the Casino

Different places where people come to play dice or cards are mentioned in the books about Ancient Greece, Rome and China. But specialized casinos appeared only in the 17th century. And where! In the church of Moses in Venice to control the players during the spring carnival. After that, casinos have begun opening all over Europe, in the 18th century they moved to America.

Gradually formed a classic set of casino games:

• Roulette (there may be a few kinds of it);

• Cards (poker, blackjack, baccarat, and so on);

• Dice.

The development of technology has enriched the range of games. People invented slot machines. The first mechanical slots appeared in England in 1887. And the legendary Liberty Bell was born in America in 1905. By the 1990s, mechanical slots were completely replaced by electric ones.

Development of Online Casino

Developers of programs for slot machines have guessed to adapt their software to PC, noted Darren Keane, Storm International CEO. The first were offline games that you could only play for fun. In 1994, Microgaming created the first platform for online gambling. This year was the year of the birth of the online casino.

All popular games have moved to the Internet spaces. Roulette in dozens of variations, hundreds of card games, and thousands of slot machines appeared at special sites. Best online casinos introduced games with a live dealer. Now anyone can play cards, roulette, bingo, and Fortune wheel with real croupier from home.

Modern slots are very advanced. They use 3D graphics, special soundtracks, and complex scenarios. Since 2014, slots with the possibilities of social games become a separate genre.

The Birth of a Mobile Casino

Casino games for mobile phones appeared 10 years after the first online casino slot. At first, they were offline, had low resolution, and had very few functions. Yet this was enough to capture the players’ attention.

In 2005, the first games with real bets appeared. Only several sites offered them. So there were the first mobile casinos. The novelty was unique and a lot of people wanted to play from the phone.

Since phones have progressed quickly, mobile casinos are not much different from PC online casinos. They contain the same online slots, live casino games, and sportsbooks. They have the same menu items and identical functionality. But menus of mobile casinos are finger-orientated.

In 2017, 7.5 billion mobile devices worked, and 83% of them used the Internet. 20% of users play casino! By 2022, the number of gadgets increase to 9 billion, and the number of mobile players up to 50%. That once again confirms that people need to realize their sense of adventure.

Hardpoint Ready For Bullring at Lime Rock Park With Galante, McAlister

The No. 22 Racing To End Alzheimer’s Porsche Cayman Will Take on Road Racing’s Short Track During This Weekend’s IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Race

LAKEVILLE, Connecticut (July 14, 2022) – Hardpoint’s IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge program is on the road once again, this time for round seven of the 10-race championship at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut. Nick Galante and Sean McAlister return to co-drive the No. 22 Racing To End Alzheimer’s Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport in the two-hour race.

The race is scheduled for Saturday, July 16 at 11:05 a.m. EDT and can be seen live on Peacock, NBC’s streaming service. It will be re-aired on USA network on Saturday, July 23 at 12:30 p.m. EDT.

Hardpoint At Lime Rock Pre-Race News and Notes

  • Lime Rock is the shortest track on the IMSA calendar at 1.5 miles, with a lap time of around 54 seconds and an average speed of nearly 100 miles per hour. That quick lap places pace at a premium to stay on the lead lap of the race and in contention.
  • Galante has a history at the track, including a pole position and a runner-up finish in what was then the ST class in 2018. He also has a pair of fourth-place finishes, just off the podium at Lime Rock.
  • Galante is a native New Englander, hailing from Greenfield, Massachusetts. A number of friends and family are on the guest list for the race on the calendar closest to his boyhood home.
  • This is McAlister’s first visit to Lime Rock Park. That marks back-to-back races at new tracks for McAlister in his rookie season in Michelin Pilot Challenge.
  • Because of the lap time and the unpredictable nature of full course caution periods, pit stop speed is at a premium at Lime Rock. Hardpoint’s advantage in that arena comes in the form of tire changers Jason Jannetti and Cody Forbes, who have worked to improve throughout the season and are now amond the quickest five-lug tire changers in the championship based on time.
  • Hardpoint’s No. 22 Porsche Cayman enters the weekend 20th in the team standings, despite missing the opening round at Daytona while the program was coming together.
  • The Racing To End Alzheimer’s program is well on its way to its goal of 222 names of loved ones who are or have suffered from Alzheimer’s on the livery, with more than 115 names on the car at Lime Rock. Each name and hometown represents a $250 donation, matched by Legistics, Inc., that helps to fund the care and the cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Hardpoint will make its SRO Americas debut next weekend at Watkins Glen International, utilizing the team’s existing crew members and experience with the Porsche 911 GT3 R to provide pre-event and trackside support for a new teammate in the GT America and GT World Challenge races. This is another milestone moment for Hardpoint in 2022, following the recent addition of Brady Behrman’s International GT program.
  • Earlier this week, Hardpoint announced a partnership with Denmark-based Asetek, a sim racing gear innovator, with Asetek SimSports racing products used in the Hardpoint shop and with the Hardpoint eSports team.

Hardpoint Quote Board

Nick Galante, Driver, No. 22 Porsche Cayman: “Lime Rock is fast, the laps are short, and there’s never a break. That makes it a lot of fun and at the same time very difficult. It was good to me the last time I was here in 2018. I won the pole, and my teammate and I finished second in the race. We’ll have our hands full this week but the Hardpoint guys will be ready to go if we need a green flag pit stop, which could really be the difference in this race. As always, I’m proud to represent Racing To End Alzheimer’s at the track closest to my hometown, and we hope we can add some more names to the Porsche this weekend on our way to a strong finish.”

Sean McAlister, Driver, No. 22 Porsche Cayman: “I’ve never been to Lime Rock so this will be the second new track in a row for this year. But I do know that it is our shortest lap on the schedule so being on pace and having good pit stops is very important, or it’s easy to go a lap down. This weekend I’m looking forward to flipping a new chapter to this season. It obviously hasn’t been the greatest season results-wise so I’m hoping that I can get better acquainted with the car and provide the team with a much-deserved result. Thanks again to the Hardpoint guys working their butts off to get the car repaired so that we could get back out on track this weekend at Lime Rock.”

NCS AT NEW HAMPSHIRE: Team Chevy Advance

NASCAR CUP SERIES RACE #20 – NEW HAMPSHIRE

Adding to its momentum following a fourth consecutive NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) win, Chevrolet teams head up to the “Magic Mile” of New Hampshire Motor Speedway for Sunday’s Ambetter 30 – the 20th points-paying race of 2022. The 1.058-mile oval in Loudon, New Hampshire, is the only speedway to host NASCAR in the six-state New England region.

Since its inaugural NCS race in July 1993, the New Hampshire venue has played host to 50 races for NASCAR’s premier division with Chevrolet recording a manufacturer-leading 19 wins. Those include a string of six consecutive trips to victory lane, starting with Mark Martin’s win in September 2009 through Kasey Kahne’s win in July 2012, both of which were behind the wheel of the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet.

CHEVROLET WITH THE WEEKEND SWEEP

All eyes were on the Bowtie brand last weekend as Chevrolet achieved a weekend sweep of wins across all three NASCAR national series: Chase Elliott (NASCAR Cup Series at Atlanta), Austin Hill (NASCAR Xfinity Series at Atlanta) and Parker Klingerman (NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Mid-Ohio). All three of those wins came after Chevrolet drivers also led the most laps among its manufacturer competitors:

  • NCS 260-lap race at Atlanta: 213 laps led among seven different Chevrolet drivers.
  • NXS 163-lap race at Atlanta: 148 laps led among five different Chevrolet drivers.
  • NCWTS 67-lap race at Mid-Ohio: 56 laps led; all by race winner Parker Klingerman.

ELLIOTT ON TOP AT HOME

Winning at your home track is something every driver strives for and Dawsonville, Georgia, native Chase Elliott was able to check that box after driving his No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet to a monumental victory last weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The 26-year-old Hendrick Motorsports driver navigated his way through a race that saw 13 cautions and 26 lead changes, swept the stage wins and led a race-high 96 laps en route to his 16th career victory in NASCAR’s premier series. This was also Elliott’s third win of 2022, which is now a series-best among drivers.

The win also adds Elliott’s name to the history book as just the second Georgia-born driver to win a NASCAR Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The only other driver in NASCAR history to accomplish that feat was Elliott’s father, Bill Elliott. In addition, the Elliott family is now the third father-son duo to win at Atlanta, joining Ned and Dale Jarrett, and Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr. on that list.

FOUR IN A ROW FOR CAMARO ZL1

Adding another tally to the win category at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the Camaro ZL1 is now at a manufacturer-leading 11 wins in 19-points paying races thus far in 2022. Of those wins includes a streak of the past four, dating back to Daniel Suarez’s win at Sonoma Raceway in June. Heading into the New Hampshire Motor Speedway race weekend in 2021, Chevrolet was sitting at the same win count of 11, with the Bowtie brand going on to win its 40th NASCAR Cup Series Manufacturer Championship title later that season.

It was another race weekend that proved the speed across the board for Chevrolet teams. On top of the victory, five Chevrolet drivers from four different Chevrolet teams placed in the top-10. Trackhouse Racing put both of their Camaro ZL1s in the top-10 yet again, with Ross Chastain in the runner-up position for his 13th top-10 of the season; and Daniel Suarez coming home in sixth. Erik Jones gave Petty GMS Motorsports a top-five finish, piloting his No. 43 Camaro ZL1 to a fourth-place finish. A notable contender in superspeedway-style racing, Justin Haley rounded out the Team Chevy top-10 with a seventh-place finish for his No. 31 Kaulig Racing Camaro ZL1 team.

In a season full of first-time winners, Spire Motorsports’ Corey LaJoie was within reach of adding his name to that list at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Recording a career-best, fifth-place finish in the spring NCS race at Atlanta, LaJoie returned to the Georgie venue with the race circled as an opportunity to race his way into the NCS playoff field. The 30-year-old North Carolina native started deep in the field in 30th but was able to navigate his way to a top-10 finish in Stage Two. LaJoie led a career-best 19 laps, taking the lead for the final time just before the final caution that set up a green-white-checkered finish. In a battle to the finish, LaJoie was caught up in an accident that resulted in a 21st-place finish for the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Camaro ZL1 team.

ELLIOTT, CHEVROLET STRENGHTENS STANDINGS LEAD

One race closer to the end of the NASCAR Cup Series regular season, Chase Elliott extended his points lead in the NCS driver points standings to 47 points over second, as well as remained in the top position in the projected playoff standings. Also familiar to the top of the standings this season, Chevrolet continues to lead in the NCS manufacturer points standings, increasing its points lead to 62 over second.

With only three positions open for drivers to either win or point their way into the 16-driver playoff field, pressure is building for those on the outside looking in. With a strong top-five performance, Erik Jones was able to reduce his deficit to the cutline by nine points to now 76 points. Austin Dillon remains in the 20th position in the standings after being sidelined early at Atlanta after damage sustained in an accident in Stage Two.

11 FOR CAMARO SS

Chase Elliott wasn’t the only Georgia native to score a win at his hometown track. NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) rookie Austin Hill, piloted his No. 21 Richard Childress Racing Camaro SS to the lead with 48 laps to go. Battling a hard-charging field all the way to the checkered flag, Hill edged out JR Motorsports’ Josh Berry for the win in the Alsco Uniforms 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway by .111-seconds, making it the closest NXS finish in the track’s history. The victory marked Hill’s second win of 2022, with his first coming in his debut NXS start with Richard Childress Racing at the season opener at Daytona. Hill’s win gave Chevrolet its 11th NXS win of 2022, a feat more than double its manufacturer competitors.

Entering the Atlanta race weekend, Kaulig Racing’s AJ Allmendinger held a nine-point lead in the NASCAR Xfinity Series driver points standings. Allmendinger went from going two laps down in Stage Two to rebounding to a 10th-place finish for a series-best 15th top-10 of 2022. The 40-year-old California native was not only able to hold onto the top spot in the NXS driver points standings, but increase his lead to 29 points over second. In similar fashion, Chevrolet was extended its lead in the NXS manufacturer points standings to 73 points.

SILVERADO RST TAKES INAUGURAL RACE WIN AT MID-OHIO

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) inaugural race at the 2.258-mile, 13-turn Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course saw Chevrolet record its third win of 2022, captured by Parker Kligerman and the No. 75 Henderson Racing Chevrolet team. The 31-year-old driver and television commentator proved to be a contender all race long, taking the Stage One win and leading a race-high 56 of the 67 laps en route to a .199-second margin of victory over NCWTS points leader Zane Smith. The triumph was Klingerman’s third career NCWTS win and his first since 2017.

With an off-weekend on deck, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will return to competition at Pocono Raceway on Saturday, July 23, for the CMC Brakeleen 150. The 60-lap race at the ‘Tricky Triangle’ marks the end of the regular season for the series, with the conclusion of the race determining the remaining drivers that will makeup the 10-driver playoff field that will contend for the championship title. Following his third-place finish at Mid-Ohio, Niece Motorsports’ Carson Hocevar secured his playoff berth. GMS Racing’s Grant Enfinger will head into the series’ regular season finale ninth in the standings. Following an eighth-place finish in his No. 19 McAnally-Hilgemann Racing Chevrolet, 20-year-old Derek Kraus closed the points gap to just 19 points below the playoff cutline.

· Leading a race-high 96 laps at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Chase Elliott moved to the top of the leaderboard for the most laps led in NCS competition this season with 645 laps. QUOTABLE QUOTES:

ROSS CHASTAIN, NO. 1 WORLDWIDE EXPRESS CAMARO ZL1

NEW HAMPSHIRE IS NOT ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE TRACKS AND PREVIOUSLY YOU SAID IT HAS BEEN A VERY HUMBLING TRACK FOR YOU. NOW THAT WE HAVE THIS DIFFERENT TYPE OF CAR AND YOU’RE HAVING A PRETTY GOOD SEASON, DO YOU LOOK AT IT MORE OPTIMISTICALLY?

“I am more optimistic about it. We’ve worked at and I’ve worked at it myself. Just because I don’t care for it and I haven’t run good there, doesn’t mean that I don’t want to run good there. It’s actually higher on the list than a lot of tracks to run good because I want to turn that around. I don’t want it to always be a track I don’t like. Almost more effort has went into New Hampshire than others just because for me personally because I want to wrap my head around it.”

HOW DO YOU EVALUATE YOUR SEASON AND PREPARE FOR THE PLAYOFFS?

“Half of my preparation is what I’ve done – I’ve been in the playoffs in Trucks and Xfinity and made mistakes along the way in both of those when I didn’t need to.

The other part is being open to experiencing it. Trackhouse is going into the Playoffs with two drivers and two cars who are going to compete as one, but we can’t rest on what we’ve done earlier this year. It’s a reset, and just experiencing it and living in the moment and realizing that there will be opportunities to mess up in all 10 of those races, there will be opportunities to take advantage of things in a good way, and there will be moments that will be very advantageous that are not worth taking. Take the soft win today and live to fight another day and not take ourselves out.”

AUSTIN DILLON, NO. 3 BASS PRO SHOPS / TRACKER OFF ROAD CAMARO ZL1

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON NEW HAMPSHIRE MOTOR SPEEDWAY?

“New Hampshire Motor Speedway has always been a really fun track. I love going there. It’s a flat track. Entry is fun there. It’s different. It’s a different type of feel than what we have anywhere, but it will be interesting to experience it this year in the Next Gen Chevy. I’ve been spending a lot of time in the simulator to prepare. We’re going to go there and do everything we can to earn a win and lock ourselves into the NASCAR Playoffs.”

KYLE LARSON, NO. 5 HENDRICKCARS.COM CAMARO ZL1

LARSON ON WHAT HE CAN COMPARE NEW HAMPSHIRE MOTOR SPEEDWAY TO:

“Loudon isn’t a track I have done a particularly great job at in the past, but I have had a few good runs there. I do enjoy going there because it’s a different style track and it reminds me of IRP (Indianapolis Raceway Park) where I ran some USAC races back in the day. I’m hoping this weekend is a little more successful than past races and that we can get our HendrickCars.com Chevrolet into victory lane.”

CHASE ELLIOTT, NO. 9 NAPA AUTO PARTS CAMARO ZL1

ELLIOTT ON WHAT THE TEAM CAN STILL IMPROVE UPON BEFORE THE PLAYOFFS:

“We want to be better at every aspect of our game. When I look at the weeks ahead, I think the next two are important places that we need to improve at. Loudon has not been a very good place for me. We’ve had a couple decent runs but nothing earth-shattering. Pocono (Raceway) is kind of the same way. I don’t feel like I’ve run good up there since my rookie year, so maybe I just need to forget everything I’ve learned between then and now and restart. We want to be good at all the tracks and I think we’re a strong enough team where we can do that.”

ALAN GUSTAFSON, CREW CHIEF, NO. 9 NAPA AUTO PARTS CAMARO ZL1

GUSTAFSON ON IF THEY ARE CURRENTLY THE TEAM TO BEAT AS THE SPORT GETS CLOSER TO THE PLAYOFFS:

“It’s hard to say. I have a huge amount of respect for our competition and what they can accomplish. I don’t think we’ll be the favorites going into Loudon. It’s a track we’ve certainly struggled at. We’ve got some work to do and we’ve been working hard to get it better. It’s the same old story for us, it’s not going to change. We’re going to try do the best we can to get the No. 9 NAPA team operating at our highest potential and if we do that, we’re going to be in great shape and have opportunities to win a lot of races and compete for the championship. Sometimes you get the results and sometimes you don’t, and you’ve just got to continuously work on getting better. We are improving and getting better and have been making strides. It’s good right now, but there’s still a long way to go and we know that. We’ve got to continue to push as hard as we can and can’t allow recent success to take the edge off. If we do that and get to the final 10 in the best possible condition this team can be in, we’ll be in great shape.”

AJ ALLMENDINGER, NO. 16 GOLD FISH CASINO SLOTS CAMARO ZL1

“New Hampshire can be a challenging track. When you hit your setup just right, it’s an extremely fun track, but if you miss it, it can be one of the most difficult tracks we go to. Hopefully this gives us a chance to work on our short track program on both the Xfinity side and the Cup side.”

WILLIAM BYRON, NO. 24 LIBERTY UNIVERSITY CAMARO ZL1

BYRON ON HIS SHORT TRACK RACING PREPARATION FOR SUNDAY:

“This weekend will be tough I feel like. I think New Hampshire (Motor Speedway) is a fairly difficult track to get around but also to get around consistently lap after lap. When I first started racing, I did really well there and it was one of my best tracks, but for some reason I haven’t gotten the same results in Cup. This year, I wanted to really focus on getting better at the short tracks and New Hampshire (Motor Speedway) was one specifically that I wanted to work on. Between running Slinger (Speedway) on Monday and Tuesday and then being in the Xfinity car on Friday and Saturday this week, I’ll have done quite a bit of preparation for Sunday’s short-track race. The extra laps in general, but especially in the Xfinity Series race, I think will really get me in a good rhythm for the Cup Series race.”

RUDY FUGLE, CREW CHIEF, NO. 24 LIBERTY UNIVERSITY CAMARO ZL1

FUGLE ON WHAT HE EXPECTS THIS WEEKEND AT NEW HAMPSHIRE:

“New Hampshire (Motor Speedway) is a track I look forward to going to every year. It’s a place that has just seemed to click for me from the beginning. Last year’s Cup Series race didn’t go as we planned, but I think we have a better idea of what to expect this time. It’s going to be a strategy-focused race in my opinion. The track is hard to pass on, so gaining and maintaining track position is going to be important. I also don’t think that you can make it a full fuel run on a set of tires, just with the tire wear we have seen so far this year. It will be a balance of pushing as long as you can in a run on a set of tires to maximize your fuel mileage but also to not give up any track position in the process. Unlike last year, they are putting PJ1 down on the track surface, so hopefully that makes it a little more race-y than it was last year.”

JUSTIN HALEY, NO. 31 LEAFFILTER GUTTER PROTECTION CAMARO ZL1

“We had a solid weekend in Atlanta, so we are looking to continue building on that momentum this weekend in New Hampshire. We’ve struggled at the flat, short tracks this year, but I feel like we have improved each week in so many different areas, so hopefully we can use what we’ve learned to excel this weekend.”

TY DILLON, NO. 42 ALLEGIANT CAMARO ZL1

DO YOU THINK THE RACE THIS WEEKEND IN NEW HAMPSHIRE WILL BE SIMILAR TO ST. LOUIS?

“I think you will see a very similar race to the one you saw at St. Louis. You can drive these cars hard. When we have to shift twice in a corner, it’s a little harder to make passes. You need some of the RPM drop or mistakes to really make a difference between two cars. I think you’re going to see a really good race in New Hampshire though. It’s a track that I really enjoy and have had some good results at. You always have confidence at places that you’ve had success at in the past.”

ERIK JONES, NO. 43 FOCUSFACTOR CAMARO ZL1

WHAT KIND OF RACE DO YOU THINK WE WILL SEE AT NEW HAMPSHIRE FOLLOWING THE RACES AT SIMILAR TRACKS LIKE PHOENIX AND GATEWAY WITH THE NEW CAR?

“I think New Hampshire will be tough. Gateway was a tough one to pass on and I think it’s going to be a little bit similar to that. I think the PJ1 will help some with it, but I think it’s going to be a tough race to pass. I think we all know there’s a little work to do with the car short track and road course wise to get it better. There are things in the works, but it’s just a matter of getting the pieces built, getting them tested, seeing what’s better, seeing what works, so I think it’s going to be tough for a little while longer until we get those pieces built for these cars and figure out what makes them happy on the short tracks.”

DO YOU THINK BECAUSE IT IS HARD TO PASS, THAT IT BRINGS SOME OF THE BUMPING AND BANGING LIKE WE SAW AT GATEWAY?

“I think it’s just the frustration of not being able to get by a guy. You run a guy down, half a straightaway back and you get to him, and you can’t pass him, you know, that’s frustrating. It’s not the job of the guy in front of you to let you by, he knows what you are fighting. He’s fought it at some point in the race. You want to keep that track position for yourself because you know you’re not going to get it back or it’s going to be really hard to get back. So, that frustration just rises quick, and it won’t be any different in New Hampshire. I think you’ll see the same kind of thing with guys catching people, not being able to get by them, getting frustrated. I don’t know if you’ll see as many wrecks, maybe, it’ll be interesting. Too, on the restart, guys are just going nuts. It’s the only time you really feel like you can gain spots, pick up a lot of spots and so you’re making big aggressive moves and obviously with that you are putting yourself at risk to make a mistake and get into a wreck. That’s kind of what we’ve seen so far.”

ALEX BOWMAN, NO. 48 ALLY CAMARO ZL1

BOWMAN ON REBOUNDING FROM ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY:

“We had a fast No. 48 Ally Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 last weekend at Atlanta (Motor Speedway). It was disappointing that we had a flat tire take us out of the race, but I can’t say enough about the car. We didn’t get the chance to get any laps in before the race to see where the car was, which was a challenge in itself. Being able to run up front all day speaks to the strength of Hendrick Motorsports and the crew who build our race cars. I know we didn’t have the result we wanted in Atlanta, but our team is going to give us another strong No. 48 Ally Chevy and we will go to New Hampshire (Motor Speedway), hit the reset button and try to focus on putting ourselves in a position to win.”

GREG IVES, CREW CHIEF, NO. 48 ALLY CAMARO ZL1

IVES ON HIS APPROACH TO NEW HAMPSHIRE:

“Last year, we had one of our best runs at New Hampshire (Motor Speedway) and I think we are capable of going back and doing it again. Anytime you go to a place that you have historically struggled at and start in the top-five and finish in the top-10, you can’t help but feel confident that you will be able to go out and replicate that performance. Our team continues to build fast race cars and this week will be no different from our standards. The Next Gen car makes things a little different than last year, but I think we have a good shot of being competitive again this year.”

DANIEL SUAREZ, NO. 99 SLAM! CAMARO ZL1

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON NEW HAMPSHIRE THIS WEEKEND?

“It is going to be interesting. We haven’t raced on a flat, short track like New Hampshire in quite a while so it is going to be interesting for me to see how much we have improved our program.”

ARE YOU BEGINNING TO FOCUS ON THE PLAYOFFS?

“I know our schedule and we have some races where we have a shot to win, but I am trying to just take one week at a time. We need to keep learning, getting better, and in my opinion take it all one week at a time.”

ARE YOU HAPPY WITH THE PROGRESS OF TRACKHOUSE RACING?

“We have fast cars, great pitstops and everyone is working together. We are nowhere close to where we know we can be so we have to keep working and getting better each week. We want to be at our best when the playoffs start.”

Monster Energy Racing: Riley Herbst New Hampshire NXS Advance

RILEY HERBST
New Hampshire NASCAR Xfinity Series Advance
No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing

NASCAR Xfinity Series Overview

• Event: Crayon 200 (Round 18 of 33)
• Date: Saturday, July 16
• Location: New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon
• Layout: 1.058-mile oval
• Time/TV/Radio: 2:30 p.m. EDT on USA/PRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio

Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

• Riley Herbst and the No. 98 Monster Energy team of Stewart-Haas Racing are riding a wave of consistency heading into Saturday’s Crayon 200 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon. They head to the Granite State on a three-race top-10 streak that began with a third-place finish June 25 at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway followed by a seventh-place drive July 2 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, and then a ninth-place result last Saturday at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

• The Crayon 200 will mark Herbst’s 94th career Xfinity Series start. In total, he has 14 top-fives and 46 top-10s dating back to his first career start on June 17, 2018, at Iowa Speedway in Newton, where he finished an impressive sixth as a 19-year-old. While he has just one previous Xfinity Series start at New Hampshire, which resulted in a 10th-place finish last July, he has two NASCAR K&N Pro Series East starts at the 1.058-mile oval, finishing fourth in 2018 and sixth in 2019.

• Only nine races remain until the Xfinity Series Playoffs kick off Sept. 24 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, and Herbst finds himself in solid position to make the 12-driver field. He is currently ninth with 582 points, 141 ahead of Anthony Alfredo, who is the first driver below the cutoff line. A win would clinch a spot for Herbst, but the 23-year-old racer from Las Vegas can also point his way in by continuing his string of strong finishes through the final regular-season race Sept. 16 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway.

• Herbst is on track to have a career year in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. In the 17 races run this season, Herbst has earned five top-fives and 12 top-10s, and has finished all but two races. He’s already matched his career-high total of top-fives in a season, first earned last year, and he’s only five top-10s away from matching his career high of 17 in that category as well, which he accomplished in 2020. He’s still in search of his first Xfinity Series victory, but he’s been knocking on the door this season with a pair of third-place finishes – May 7 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway and June 25 at Nashville.

• SHR has contested five Xfinity Series races at New Hampshire and never finished outside the top-10. Herbst scored the organization’s most recent top-10 last July. In 2019, Chase Briscoe drove the No. 98 Ford Mustang to a sixth-place finish at New Hampshire. Cole Custer made the other three starts at the 1.058-mile oval between 2017-2019, with a best result of second in 2019 wheeling SHR’s No. 00 Ford Mustang.

Riley Herbst, Driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

You’ve been on a strong run ever since the Xfinity Series returned to racing June 25 at Nashville following a two-week break. Did that time off help you and the No. 98 Monster Energy team regroup as you head into these final races before the playoffs begin?

“That two-week break was something we all needed. Those final two races before that were not our best, so I think it was just time to regroup and strategize about what we needed to do to not only make the playoffs, but win. While we weren’t traveling, the entire No. 98 team was working and preparing for that first race back at Nashville. I can’t thank the guys enough for their hard work each and every week.”

While you only have one Xfinity Series start at New Hampshire, you have two starts there in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, and both resulted in top-six finishes. Is New Hampshire another track that fits your driving style?

“I like New Hampshire and I feel I’ve been able to perform well there, but I enjoy going to a lot of different tracks. You can be successful anywhere, and I’ll put in the same amount of work as I do when it’s a track that’s more difficult for me. With that said, I’m excited to head to New Hampshire and have a good weekend there. I think it’s another strong track where we can contend for the win.”

You have a comfortable cushion in the current playoff standings as you’re 141 points above the top-12 cutoff line. What’s the strategy as you head into these final nine races of the regular season?

“The ultimate goal is to win and lock in our spot, but we also have to be conscious that we’re in a good spot to make it on points. It’s all about balancing when to take risks and when to go for points. I feel like we’ll have chances in these final nine races to go for the win, but we also have to be smart about keeping our point advantage. There are still positions to gain in front of us, so it’s really all about strategy. I think Richard (Boswell, crew chief) is really good about knowing when to go for it and when to play it safe.”

Kurt Busch Eyes Strong Finish at Sunday’s Ambetter 301

Veteran 23XI Racing driver looks to build momentum ahead of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs with a standout performance at “The Magic Mile.”

LOUDON, N.H. – With seven races remaining in the NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) season, Kurt Busch is comfortably in the Playoffs by virtue of a win at Kansas and a consistent season overall for his 23XI Racing team. Now, the three-time winner at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) turns his attention to building momentum ahead of the post season, beginning with Sunday’s Ambetter 301.

This weekend marks Busch’s 39th start at “The Magic Mile,” where he has earned 15 top- 10s, eight top-fives and three wins on his career.

Despite his success at the 1.058-mile track, Busch said there are a lot of different challenges for drivers to overcome in order to make their way to victory lane.

“It’s mainly the corner entry and the braking zones at New Hampshire,” he said. “And then, turn three seems to get rougher and rougher each year, just with settling or track aging. It makes it a challenge to carve through there. If you get that right, that usually leads to a good day.”

Sunday’s Ambetter 301 marks the debut of NASCAR’s radically-redesigned NCS car at NHMS. Busch recognizes that, despite his past success at NASCAR’s only New England track, teams will be starting from scratch with their notes, which should provide plenty of action on the track as they race to adjust to the challenge of the NextGen car.

“As a race unfolds, there are so many challenges with this new car you’ve got to be ready to roll and be quick on your feet,” he said. “The NextGen car, it doesn’t like to be sideways. As soon as you step her out, she’s gone. The old car, you were rewarded with how far you could get her sideways because of the side force and the aero side. It’s a different feel, and it’s been a big challenge this year.”

“You’ve just got to stay consistent. You just have to run with the mindset of, ‘we’ve got to be a fifth-place car to put ourselves in position to win, but yet we can’t push too hard to be fifth.’ This car just has that razorblade edge.”

If Busch’s 23XI Racing team finds a way to ride that razor’s edge to victory lane on Sunday, he’ll join Kevin Harvick and Jeff Burton as the winningest NCS drivers in NHMS history. Perhaps more importantly in his eyes, Busch said a strong run at the Ambetter 301 would provide his team with crucial information ahead of the season finale at Phoenix, a similar style track that will ultimately decide this season’s NCS championship.

“Back in the day with the September race (at NHMS), it was the door to a championship run,” he said. “Now you can use it as a sister racetrack to Phoenix. Phoenix is the championship race, and New Hampshire is the same style track – it’s a flat, one-mile track. It’s an important, sneaky race because of how you can use it as prep for a championship run.”

This weekend’s NCS event at New Hampshire is in the home territory of RFK’s co-owners, the Fenway Sports Group. FSG is based out of Boston, Massachusetts, and is located just 82 miles from New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Niner Niner
RFK has won in all three of NASCAR’s major touring series at New Hampshire, including seven times in the NCS and once each in Xfinity and the Truck Series. Jeff Burton drove the No. 99 to RFK’s first NCS win at Loudon back in 1997, while Greg Biffle earned the most recent win in 2008. Kurt Busch went to victory lane in 2000 in the trucks while Carl Edwards picked up the win in 2006 in Xfinity series action.

Four in a Row

RFK won at least one NCS race at New Hampshire in four consecutive seasons from 1997-2000, with former driver Burton taking the checkered flag on each occasion. In addition, RFK swept both races at New Hampshire in 2004 with former driver Busch.

Wicked Good Domination

Former RFK driver Burton posted one of the most dominating wins in NASCAR history at New Hampshire on Sept. 17, 2000, with Burton qualifying on the front row (second) and leading all 300 laps of the event en route to his fourth victory at the New England track. RFK has led over 100 laps in NCS action at New Hampshire on six different occasions, including leading over 150 laps four times and over 190 laps three times. All-in-all, RFK has led 1,557 laps at New Hampshire in the NCS.

Xfinity in ‘The Granite State’

RFK has started 45 NASCAR Xfinity Series races at New Hampshire, earning one win, nine top-fives and 19 top-10s. RFK’s lone victory came with former driver Edwards in the July 2006 event after starting ninth and leading 58 laps en route to the win.

Magic Mile up Next for Burton, Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team

Fresh off their best showing of the season, a 10th-place run on Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Harrison Burton and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane team are hoping to keep the momentum up in this weekend’s Ambetter 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

It will mark Burton’s first run at New Hampshire in a Cup Series car, but he does have a top-five there in the Xfinity Series. And, he and crew chief Brian Wilson have accumulated data this season at similar tracks that should be a help as the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team takes on the relatively flat one-mile oval.

That’s all in addition to the boost that comes with a Cup-career-best finish for the rookie Burton at Atlanta.

“Last weekend in Atlanta was a great result for everyone on the No. 21 Ford team,” Wilson said. “I think that shows what we can do as we go to tracks a second time this year.

“At Gateway and Nashville we started to show signs of progress, but last weekend we were able to get the result of everyone’s hard work.”

“This week in New Hampshire we’re back to a first-time track for the 2022 season. Fortunately, the setups are historically similar to what you run at Phoenix, Richmond and Gateway. We also run the same Goodyear tire at all of those tracks.

“We’ll try to build on what we learned most recently at Gateway where we qualified ninth and showed competitive speed in the race.”

Practice for the Ambetter 301 is set for Saturday at 11:35 a.m. Eastern Time to be followed by qualifying at 12:20 p.m.

Sunday’s 301-lap race is scheduled to get the green flag just after 3 p.m. with TV coverage on USA Network.

Stage breaks are set for Laps 70 and 185.

William Ashley is an official partner and trophy provider of the Honda Indy Toronto

2019 race winner Simon Pagenaud will help reveal this year’s trophy tomorrow morning at William Ashley store on Bloor St. West

TORONTO (July 13, 2022) – William Ashley is back as an official partner and the trophy provider of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES race on Sunday during the Honda Indy Toronto. The event makes its much-anticipated return to Exhibition Place this weekend, July 15-17, for the first time since 2019.

The celebrated retailer for tableware and home décor has provided every recent Honda Indy Toronto race winner and podium finisher with spectacular, custom-made trophies. These masterpieces are crafted from Waterford Crystal which is handblown in Waterford, Ireland. The first-place trophy takes 48 hours to make by one person and is etched by hand with a remarkable rendering of the Toronto skyline.

This year’s versions of the crystal trophies will be revealed tomorrow (July 14) with help from NTT INDYCAR SERIES driver Simon Pagenaud, the Honda Indy Toronto’s most recent winner, at 10 a.m. ET at William Ashley’s downtown Toronto flagship location.

Pagenaud dominated the 2019 race in Toronto, taking the checkered flag after leading 80 of 85 laps at the 2.874-kilometre, 11-turn street circuit. This year the veteran driver will pilot the No. 60 Meyer Shank Racing Honda as he looks to defend his win three years later.

“I can’t wait to go back to Toronto. It was such a great event back in 2019, and I won the race!” Pagenaud said. “It’s a race track that I really enjoy. I love the rhythm of the track, and it’s a place that I feel very comfortable at. We have an amazing street course package with Meyer Shank Racing, so obviously it’s a weekend that I’m really looking forward to. Hopefully we execute perfectly all weekend and end up with some hardware at the end.”
