Little returns to NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competition for the first time since World Wide Technology (Ill.) Raceway at Gateway earlier this month where he recorded a strong top-20 finish in the Toyota 200.

Just Past Halfway: Friday night’s Rackley Roofing 200 indicates Jesse Little is just past halfway through his 2022 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series program with the veteran Mooresville, N.C.-based team.

Little kicked off his partial schedule with the Mooresville, N.C.-based team with an impressive sixth-place finish aboard the No. 02 Shriners Children’s Hospitals Chevrolet Silverado RST after starting a season-high ninth in the season-opening race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February.

Overall, he has captured one top-10, three top-15s, five top-20s and holds an average finish of 19.6 entering the lone race of the 2022 Truck Series season from Music City USA.

Jesse Little Truck Series Nashville Superspeedway Stats: Friday night’s Rackley Roofing 200 will mark Little’s first career Truck Series start at the 1.33-mile race track nestled in Lebanon, Tenn.

Little, however, did make a NASCAR Xfinity Series start at Nashville Superspeedway in 2021, finishing 27th after starting 35th driving the No. 78 Toyota Supra for B.J. McLeod Motorsports.

Jesse Little Truck Series Speedway Stats: At NASCAR Camping World Truck Series tracks classified as a speedway, Little has made 32 starts throughout his career with five top-10 finishes, while also carrying an average finishing position of 18.6.

Knoxville Raceway | Clean Harbors 150 Race Recap: In the most recent NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Knoxville Raceway, Little’s teammate Kaz Grala was at the helm for the final dirt race of the 2022 Truck Series season.

After starting the Clean Harbors 150 a solid 17th based on his performance in his heat before the race, Grala continued a steady climb and maintained a presence throughout the top-15 for a majority of the race until a late race spin thwarted the team’s efforts that eventually resulted in a 26th place finish at the checkered flag.

Calling the Shots: Guiding Little as crew chief of the No. 02 Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado RST is crew chief Steven Dawson.

A long-time Young’s Motorsports employee, Dawson will serve as crew chief for just his 15th Truck Series race. The Rackley Roofing 200 will be his first race as crew chief at the concrete race track.

Dawson, 34, is a native of Concord, N.C.

New Territory: Fan favorite Spencer Boyd invades Nashville Superspeedway settled in aboard his new Truck number and leadership eyeing his first top-10 of the 2022 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and second win of his Truck Series career.

No. 133: This weekend at Nashville, Boyd will make his 133rd career NASCAR start. Boyd has three starts in the NASCAR Cup Series, 50 starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, and will make his 80th start in Trucks when the green flag waves Saturday night.

About Stefan: Stefan Parsons, 24, is an American professional stock car racing driver. He currently competes part-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Parsons is one of the most well-known drivers in the NASCAR community. When he isn’t racing, he is always the first driver to volunteer his time working for teams on the side.

Often praised for his mentality of “doing whatever it takes” to earn a spot in the top ranks of NASCAR, his hard work and endless efforts translate to value for the marketing partners he aligns himself with.

Rebel Rock Racing Rested and Tested for Return to Watkins Glen

WATKINS GLEN, NY (23 June 2022) – Rebel Rock Racing is rested and tested heading to Saturday’s Tioga Downs Casino Resort 120, Round 5 of the 2022 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge.

Frank DePew and Robin Liddell will co-drive the No. 71 Urban Grid Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R as the season reaches its halfway point with a visit to the historic 3.4-mile, 11-turn circuit.

After competing at several challenging circuits which historically did not favor the Camaro, the series now shifts to venues that play to the Camaro’s strengths – beginning with Watkins Glen.

“The Camaro goes quite well at Watkins Glen,” Liddell said. “Our biggest concern is top speed. If the performance of the car in terms of top speed is there, we’ll have a good race car. I think the car should do quite well at the next three races in particular – Watkins Glen, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (July 2) and Lime Rock Park (July 16). I’m looking forward to having a competitive car during those three weekends.”

While resting up during the six-week break since the most recent race at Mid-Ohio, the team managed to slip in a two-day test at the circuit located in the Upstate New York Finger Lakes Region.

“Everything went pretty well at the test,” Liddell said. “Frank did a great job – he was actually a second quicker than he was in last year’s qualifying. Frank’s driving has really come on a lot this year. Hopefully he can continue to make progress in qualifying as well, as he typically races better than he qualifies. He’s having a good run of races where he’s made good decisions and gained places, so I’m excited to see how he will do at The Glen.”

Liddell is a three-time winner of the Sahlen’s Six Hours, in 2006 (Tafel Porsche) and 2012-13 (Stevenson Camaro). He also won twice in the Continental Tire 150 in a Chevrolet Camaro.

“I love the track at Watkins Glen,” Liddell said. “I first raced there in the Six Hours in 2005 (finished fourth), and loved it from the moment I first drove there. I like everything about it, and it’s one of my favorite places to visit. We’ll have a few extra days there to turn the car around for the following weekend’s race in Canada, so that gives us the opportunity to spend some time in the area, which is nice. It’s a lovely part of the world.”

The team is looking for better luck than last year’s extended visit to The Glen, which featured races on back-to-back weekends. The team finished a competitive fifth in its previous visit to WGI in 2019. Rebel Rock is coming off an uneventful ninth-place finish at Mid-Ohio, with Liddell gaining three positions on the final lap.

GS qualifying for the Tioga Downs Casino Resort 120 will be held on Friday at 3:55 p.m. (all times ET). The two-hour race will take the green flag at 3:40 p.m. on Saturday, and will be streamed live on Peacock.

Cosmo Takes on New Challenge, Racing for Peterson in Competitive TA2 series

LEXINGTON, Ohio (23 June 2022) – Guy Cosmo takes on a new challenge this weekend, making his Trans Am presented by Pirelli debut in the competitive TA2 class at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The Jupiter, Florida driver will be at the wheel of the No. 89 3-Dimensional Services Group Ford Mustang, part of a 35-car TA2 class during the Mid-Ohio Speed Tour.

He is filling in for Mike Skeen, a 2022 winner at Road Atlanta and Laguna Seca. Teammate Rafa Matos, driver of the No. 88 Ford, won at Sebring and enters the Mid-Ohio weekend as the points leader.

“I’m looking forward to the race, and I know it will be really competitive,” Cosmo said. “I’ve got a lot to learn about the car, but I’ll go out and give it my best. I’m sure I will have my hands full, but it’s a new challenge and will be a lot of fun.”

Cosmo was pleased with the car and his results after having a recent test with Peterson Motorsports at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, S.C.

“I’ve known Doug Peterson for just about my entire pro career,” Cosmo said. “I’ve raced against him and I’ve raced for him, but it’s been a really long time since either of those. It’s fantastic to reunite with Doug and his crew. This will certainly be a lot of fun.”

TA2 qualifying will be held on Saturday and will be run in two groups, beginning at 3:20 p.m. ET Sunday’s 45-lap TA2 feature race is set to start at 10:55 a.m. ET. The race will be televised on CBS on Saturday, July 2, at 7:30 p.m. ET.

NASCAR Fan Favorite Parker Kligerman Will Race MX-5 Cup at Road America

Truck Series Regular and NBC Sports Reporter Will Be Guest Driver

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (June 23, 2022) – When the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires makes its debut on the NASCAR stage at Road America next weekend, there will be a special, overqualified rookie on the entry list. Truck series driver Parker Kligerman will join the grid for both 45-minute races in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

Kligerman has nearly 200 races in the top tier NASCAR series under his belt, including two Truck Series wins at Talladega Superspeedway. The Stamford, Connecticut native has already raced in the NASCAR Cup Series, Xfiinity Series and Camping World Truck Series so far this year. He regularly drives the No. 75 Food Country USA Chevrolet for Henderson Motorsports in the Truck Series and finished seventh in his most recent race at Sonoma Raceway.

“I’ve expressed interest in racing with this series for a while now, because it looks so fun,” Kligerman said. “These are often the best races of the weekend wherever they go. The racing is immensely competitive, and you constantly see passes you didn’t think were possible. I’ve tried my hand at Spec Miata a few times and had an absolute blast, so I’m eager to get behind the wheel of the MX-5 Cup car. Big thank you to Mazda Motorsports for this opportunity.”

More than just a driver, Kligerman has made a name for himself in sports broadcasting as well. He’s been an NBC Sports pit lane reporter since 2015. AS GOOD AS I ONCE WAS: Last year at Nashville Superspeedway, Kyle Larson led 264 of 300 laps en route to victory in the inaugural NASCAR Cup Series event at the 1.33-mile track. The driver of the No. 5 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 started fifth, finished second in stage one and first in stage two before leading the final 78 laps to earn the victory.

THE STREAK: Larson’s victory last June at the Tennessee track marked his third consecutive points-paying victory in NASCAR’s premier series. In fact, from the Darlington Raceway spring race in May through the Nashville event, the Elk Grove, California, native recorded six consecutive top-two finishes. That streak was snapped in the next race at Pocono Raceway when Larson experienced a tire issue in the final corner on the final lap while leading.

SOMETHING LIKE THAT: Last weekend marked the first – and only – off weekend of the 2022 season. In 2021 at Watkins Glen International, Larson won on the serpentine layout following the Cup Series’ final weekend without a race during its season.

I GOT A CAR: In 2022, Larson has led 12 of the 16 races – the second most of any driver in the Cup Series – for 273 laps. The 29-year-old driver has posted top-five finishes in six events – trailing only Ross Chastain (seven) in that statistical category – while securing top-10s in half of the races (eight).

HELL OF A VIEW: Following his eighth-place run at Sonoma Raceway, Chase Elliott continues to hold the NASCAR Cup Series points lead, now by 16 points over Ross Chastain. The Dawsonville, Georgia, native first took over the point standings lead following the fifth race of the year at Atlanta Motor Speedway and, outside of a tie with Ryan Blaney coming out of Richmond Raceway, has held sole possession at the top.

FAST AS YOU: With 16 races in the books in the 2022 season so far, Elliott has one win (Dover Motor Speedway), one pole award (Martinsville Speedway), three top-five finishes and 10 top-10s. He’s led laps in 50% of the events this year for a combined total 471 circuits, his most laps led through 16 events in his Cup Series career. That total is also second in the series behind only Hendrick Motorsports teammate William Byron (570). His 10 top-10 results are tied for second (with Chastain) across full-time drivers this season, trailing Kyle Busch who has 11. His average finish of 12.63 is third best behind Busch and teammate Alex Bowman.

EVERY MILE A MEMORY: During the Cup Series race at Sonoma, Elliott was credited with leading the 100,000th mile for Hendrick Motorsports. The team is the first in the sport to accomplish the feat. Overall, the 26-year-old driver has led the third-most miles (5,819.724) among all Hendrick Motorsports drivers, trailing only Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson.

ROLLER COASTER RIDE: In last year’s inaugural Cup event at Nashville Superspeedway, Elliott started sixth and finished first in the opening stage of the race. He followed that up with a seventh-place result in stage two. In the final stage, Elliott raced as high as fourth but dropped out of the top 10 after experiencing a left-rear tire issue. He crossed the finish line 13th but was credited with a 39th-place finish due to loose lug nuts on his Chevrolet.

STOP ON A DIME: Elliott’s No. 9 pit crew continues to hold the fastest average time for four-tire pit stops in 2022 at 11.671 seconds. The team is comprised of jackman T.J. Semke, gasman John Gianninoto, tire carrier Jared Erspamer and tire changers Chad Avrit (rear) and Nick O’Dell (front). The No. 9 team is no stranger to being at the top, as last season it was named the Mechanix Wear Most Valuable Pit Crew for demonstrating the most consistency on pit road throughout the 36-race schedule.

THE GOOD STUFF: This Sunday, Elliott will make his second Cup Series start at Nashville. In 46 starts on tracks measuring 1- to 1.37-miles in length (Dover Motor Speedway, Darlington Raceway, New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Nashville, Phoenix Raceway and WWT Raceway), the 2020 Cup Series champion has three wins, including a victory at Dover earlier this season. Accompanying those victories are 18 top-five finishes, 24 top-10s and 1,190 laps led. While he’s winless at the 1.33-mile oval, he has enjoyed success in Music City. At Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, Elliott won the 2013 All-American 400 in a Super Late Model when he was 17 years old and in 2021, he won the SRX race at the track.

I LIKE IT, I LOVE IT: Before the off weekend, the NASCAR Cup Series field took to the 1.99-mile road course of Sonoma Raceway on June 12. Despite qualifying 20th, William Byron and the No. 24 team worked diligently all race long to gain track position before ultimately crossing the finish line in the ninth position – a track-best finish at the Cup level for Byron at Sonoma.

RECORD YEAR: So far in the 2022 season, Byron has scored two wins, four top-five finishes, five top-10s and three stage wins. His 13 playoff points accumulated are tied with Ross Chastain for the most by any driver so far this season. He is also currently eighth in the driver point standings, locked into the Cup Series playoffs for a fourth consecutive season.

HOW DO YOU LIKE ME NOW?!: With 16 races complete in 2022, Byron has led laps in 11 of them – tied for the third-most with Kyle Busch and Joey Logano. The Charlotte, North Carolina, native’s 570 laps led are the most by a driver this season. He has also spent the fourth-most laps running in the top-10 (2,549) as well as the second-most laps running within the top-five (1,689).

THE RACE IS ON: This Sunday’s race at Nashville Superspeedway will mark Byron’s 32nd start on tracks 1-mile to 1.37-miles in length (Dover Motor Speedway, Darlington Raceway, New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Nashville, Phoenix Raceway and WWT Raceway). In his previous 31 starts, the 24-year-old driver has collected one pole award, five top-five finishes, 10 top-10s with 82 laps led.

THE SIGN SAYS NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE: In the first Cup race at the Nashville venue last year, Byron qualified fourth but was forced to start at the rear of the field for an unapproved adjustment pre-race. However, Byron wasted no time racing his way through the field, scoring a third-place finish. Byron has one other start at the 1.33-mile oval, also coming last season, in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series where he qualified 10th and was running up front before suffering a mechanical issue just past halfway.

HARD WORKIN’ MAN: Last year, crew chief Rudy Fugle scored a third-place finish with Byron and the No. 24 team in his Cup Series debut at Nashville. Aside from that Cup Series start, the Livonia, New York, native has three other starts at the Tennessee track, including two in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, both coming in 2010 where he recorded one top-10 finish and two top-15s, as well as a 16th-place result in Truck Series in 2011.

BLAME IT ALL ON MY ROOTS: Byron once again continued his winning ways, scoring the victory at Berlin Raceway on Thursday, June 9 – his fifth straight win in the No. 24 Super Late Model for Wilson Motorsports. He’s now collected two wins at New Smyrna Speedway, one at Hickory Motor Speedway, one at Berlin Raceway and one at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway – just under an hour away from Nashville Superspeedway.

DIRT ON MY BOOTS: Alex Bowman spent the week away from the NASCAR Cup Series behind the wheel of the No. 55 Ally sprint car for Alex Bowman Racing, competing in Ohio Sprint Speedweek. As part of the week on dirt, Bowman made starts at Wayne County Speedway, Sharon Speedway, Atomic Speedway, Waynesfield Raceway Park, Limaland Motorsports Park, and Portsmouth Raceway Park.

WHOLE LOT OF SPEED: Last time the Cup Series raced on June 26th, Bowman took home his fifth career win in NASCAR’s premier series at Pocono Raceway in 2021. Bowman led 16 circuits at the “Tricky Triangle” and beat teammate Kyle Larson, who had a tire go down in the final turn. The win was his third in his banner year in Cup. Bowman’s Pocono win was Hendrick Motorsports’ sixth consecutive win, setting the modern-era record for consecutive wins.

REAL GOOD MAN: After 16 events in the 2022 Cup Series season, Bowman continues to hold the second-best average finish at 12.06. He trails only Kyle Busch, who holds an average finish of 11.81. The Tucson, Arizona, native also has nine top-10s through 16 events – his most at this point in any of his Cup Series seasons. Bowman didn’t take home his ninth top-10 in 2021 until the 18th race at Pocono, where he won the race.

THAT’S SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF: By leading the first 50 laps at Sonoma Raceway on June 12, Hendrick Motorsports became the first Cup Series organization to lead over 100,000 miles in the sport’s top series. Through 16 points-paying races in 2022, the team has led 1,548.91 miles.

ROAR OF A SUNDAY CROWD: Since its inception in 1984, Hendrick Motorsports has the most wins after an off weekend in the Cup Series. The organization has 37 wins coming off a weekend of rest – the next closest mark is 27 by Richard Childress Racing. Larson (2021, Watkins Glen International) and Chase Elliott (2019, Talladega Superspeedway spring race) are the two most recent winners for the team after a break.

HOME ON THE (CONCRETE) RANGE: Concrete tracks have been a boon for Hendrick Motorsports recently. Going back to Alex Bowman’s 2021 May win at Dover Motor Speedway, the organization has won four straight races on that track type. That stretch includes Larson’s wins at Nashville and Bristol Motor Speedway last year as well as Elliott’s win at Dover last month.

THE FUN IS JUST BEGINNING: The 2022 race at Nashville marks the second time the Cup Series has visited the 1.33-mile venue. In last year’s inaugural Ally 400, Larson scored the win. It was one of three new tracks that Hendrick Motorsports won on in 2021 – Elliott’s wins at Circuit of The Americas and Road America stand as the others in that category.

FOLLOW YOUR ARROW: Through the first 16 points-paying races of the season, Hendrick Motorsports has led the most laps in the Cup Series. The 1,332 circuits out front are 484 more than the next closest team and account for 31 percent of all the laps run this year.

WHEREVER IT POINTS: The Rick Hendrick-owned organization is the lone team to have its entire lineup inside the top 10 in the point standings. Elliott holds the lead, while Larson ranks seventh, Byron is eighth and Bowman stands in ninth.

WE’RE GONNA BE THE ONES THAT HAVE IT ALL: Hendrick Motorsports five wins this season are the most in the Cup Series by two over Trackhouse Racing. The four drivers have accounted for 20% of the top-five finishes (16) and top-10s (32) this season in the Cup Series.

It seems like these Next Gen cars slide around even more, so it should be fun.”

I don’t see it looking much different than last year. I think we have the potential to be really good there. We’ve had some pretty good speed this year, we just need to focus on putting everything together and getting more consistently strong finishes and hopefully another win or two during this stretch of races before heading into the playoffs.”

Alan Gustafson, crew chief of the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on heading back to Nashville: “I think for sure the heat will play a role and everything is going to be a bit more difficult for everybody. The car’s performance, your driver is going to be in a little more difficult situation. The grip of the tires is going to be a little worse, pitting the car on pit road is a little more difficult when it’s hot. It’s hard to get calm and cool. It’s a little bit more uncomfortable. It’ll make it a little bit tougher. I like it. I think those mental challenges are fun, for me. We were OK there last year. I wouldn’t say we were great, but we need to improve and get the car driving a little bit better. The car is typically loose in there and tight in the center and can be tight exit or loose exit depending on what you’ve got, but stringing that whole corner together is key.”

William Byron, driver of the No. 24 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on his thoughts for this weekend at Nashville: “I think last year’s race at Nashville (Superspeedway) was a ‘learn as you go’ type of situation. With so few people having experience there, and even my short stint in the (Camping World) Truck Series race that weekend, we still didn’t know a lot of what to expect. We ended up having a really solid run though and that does offer some extra confidence for this weekend. You don’t want to be overly confident, though. Just because you had a good finish, that was last year’s car, and the Next Gen car handles differently. We have a starting point, and we’ll use practice on Friday to really dial the race setup in. Nashville presents its own challenges though as it looks like a superspeedway but it’s more similar to a short track in how tight the corners are.”

Rudy Fugle, crew chief of the No. 24 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on how he’s approaching this weekend at Nashville: “I think this will be another weekend that we have a good starting point to work from when we unload. We ran well in last year’s race at Nashville Superspeedway. We had to start at the rear and were still able to race our way back to the front. I’m not sure if there will be as much passing this year as there was last year, but between our notebook and our teammate’s notebook (No. 5 team, defending winner), we have a good starting point. Plus, a full 50-minute practice really allows us to try some different things and make longer runs. It’s going to be hot, which will make for a slick track and with the resin down, we’ll want to practice with that as much as we can ahead of Sunday to get the balance right over a run.”

YOUR SPONSOR ALLY, IT’S A BIG WEEKEND FOR THEM. GIVE US A QUICK OVERVIEW OF HOW YOU’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO THE WEEKEND AND WHAT IT MEANS TO HAVE ALLY SO INVOLVED IN NOT ONLY THE NASHVILLE MARKET, BUT ALSO IN THIS EVENT.

“Yeah, for sure. It’s always cool to have Ally be the title sponsor of the race this weekend. Last year, I feel like we definitely underperformed at Nashville. It was a bummer for it being the Ally 400, so we’re all in on trying to get our race car better. Anything Ally does, they are all in on. There’s a lot going on, whether it’s at the race track, Ole Red or wherever they’ve got me going. I’m excited for all of the weekend’s activities and just trying to do our best to put on a good show and get the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet in victory lane.”

WHAT KIND OF PRESSURE IS THERE, IF ANY, ON YOU WHEN ALLY IS SO HEAVILY INVOLVED IN THE WEEKEND?

“It’s not like there’s an overbearing pressure; certainly not from the outside at least. I think just for me, anything that they do, you want to do well. Anytime that JB and Andrea are there or really anybody from Ally are there – you want to run well. For them to have their name on everything there, I really want to run well and I want to get the Ally car in victory lane for that race; for any race, but just a little bit extra this weekend. There’s no pressure from Ally or anybody at Hendrick Motorsports, it’s just I want to run well for selfish reasons when it’s the Ally 400.”

WHAT’S IT LIKE AS A DRIVER WHEN YOU’VE LINED UP WITH A SPONSOR THAT BELIEVES IN YOU – WANTS TO WORK WITH YOU, WANTS TO PROMOTE YOU AND SEND YOU ALL OVER NASHVILLE?

“It’s been really cool. They have been amazing to work with. I’m not going to lie to you, when Mr. Hendrick told me that I was driving the No. 48, I was super nervous. I didn’t know how it was going to go. I didn’t know anybody at Ally yet. I just didn’t know how it was going to go. It has been awesome. Everybody there has been awesome to work with. Anything that we’ve done – whether it’s the animal shelter stuff, the sprint car stuff, whatever they’ve been a part of – they’ve been amazing.

For this weekend, kind of going all over Nashville, is going to be really cool. I’m just excited. They are always on their game. They do things the right way. They’re really fun to work with.”

WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU ARE RIGHT NOW HEADING INTO THE 17TH RACE OF THE SEASON?

“I don’t think we’re quite where we want to be. I think we’ve had a rough couple of weeks. Sonoma, we had a way better race car than where we finished. We got caught up when the No. 18 (Kyle Busch) spun on that last restart. Gateway wasn’t pretty for any of the HMS cars and I think we’ve got a little bit of work to do. I’m looking forward to seeing how we come out after the week off and the little bit of a reset we’ve had. Hopefully we’re really strong in Nashville. Like I said, we struggled there last year, so there’s a lot of pressure from myself to run well and hopefully we’re good. I think a lot can change after a weekend off, so we’ll see where we stack up.”

IT SEEMS LIKE THIS YEAR, MAYBE MORE SO THAN YEARS PAST, YOU NEVER KNOW WHO’S GOING TO HIT ON IT WEEK-TO-WEEK. OBVIOUSLY, THERE’S BEEN SOME CONSISTENT DRIVERS UP THERE. THE WORD ‘UNPREDICTABLE’ SEEMS TO BE USED A LOT THIS YEAR. AS A DRIVER, IS THAT FUN OR IS THAT SOMETHING THAT’S KIND OF FRUSTRATING?

“I think it feels pretty normal to me. It doesn’t feel extraordinarily different. I definitely think the way the season has been – like I feel like the HMS cars were really good to start and some other guys have caught up here recently. The Trackhouse cars have been really, really strong. So, just trying to understand where we’re at has been interesting. But for us, it’s pretty normal. I’d say the biggest thing is the lack of being able to change things in practice is a little bit weird. We have some practice back, but we can’t really make changes and change necessarily what we want to with the race car. So, just trying to unload the best that we can so we can make the most out of those practices and be as close as we can be.

It definitely seems like there’s not one guy that’s kind of taking off with the season, so it’s kind of wide open still. Hopefully when the Playoffs swing around, we’re in the best shape possible.”

YOU SAID THERE’S NOT REALLY ONE GUY THAT HAS RAN AWAY WITH IT. IT SEEMS LIKE, IN TERMS OF PLAYOFF POINTS, THAT’S KIND OF THE SAME THING. THERE’S REALLY NOT A BIG GAP FROM ANYBODY. I WOULD ASSUME AS OF RIGHT NOW, THAT’S A GOOD THING AS WE START TO GET CLOSER TO THE PLAYOFFS?

“Yeah, I guess. We’ve seen in previous years; guys rack up a ton of wins and a ton of Playoff points to lean on. Typically, they’re the best guys in the Playoffs anyways. So it’s a little bit interesting, but yeah I think it’s pretty wide open right now. I think you’re going to have teams get hot and then kind of cool off even between now and the Playoffs. I think so much changes with this race car. It’s not like the old car where we’re nit-picking things, making little changes and little developments. We can’t change parts, but it’s big swings I feel like as we learn the race car and as teams get the race cars better. It’s big improvements and I think it’s going to continue to be that way.”

NEXT GEN HAS BEEN PRAISED THIS YEAR FOR ITS PERFORMANCES ON MOST OF THE 1.5-MILE TRACKS. HAS THE RACING LOOKED AS GOOD TO YOU BEHIND THE WHEEL AS IT SEEMINGLY HAS TO EVERYONE WATCHING?

“Yes and no. I think it drives worse, which makes it a better race. Like I think at the short tracks, Martinsville in particular, it drove way too well and it made for a bad race. The 1.5-mile tracks, it seems to race really well. It definitely isn’t as comfortable to drive as the old car, but the rules package that we’ve ended up with and where everything shook out, it’s put on really good races.

I think that’s been really good. I’m surprised that the short tracks weren’t better. I kind of would have predicted that they would have been great. But it’s good to see the 1.5-mile tracks racing as well as they have.”

HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS HAS ONE WIN IN THE LAST EIGHT RACES AND YOU GUYS STARTED OUT SO STRONG. DO YOU FEEL LIKE AS A GROUP AS A WHOLE, YOU’RE NOT GETTING THE RESULTS THAT YOU WANTED THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS?

“Yeah – I think if I could say what it was or what exactly we were fighting, we could fix it. I don’t think we’re bad by any means. I think we’re just not as great as we were in the beginning of the year. I think some other guys have just caught up and we’ve got to do our homework to get back ahead of the pack. We’re all working on it. There’s a lot of smart people at HMS. I know a lot of them rely on your (Bob Pockrass) tweets for getting weekly information and that helps us out with knowing where the resin is going to be and stuff like that. But there’s a lot of really smart people that are head down and working on making our race cars better each and every week.”

CONSIDERING THE HEAT EXPECTED THIS WEEKEND, ARE YOU MORE CONCERNED ABOUT YOURSELF AS A DRIVER OR CERTAIN PARTS AND PIECES ON THE CAR THAT HAVE NOT BEEN TESTED YET IN EXTREME HEAT?

“I’m a whiny race car driver, so I’m concerned about me myself. I think the parts and pieces on the race car should be fine. I think really the biggest failure we’ve seen lately was the brake issue with the No. 4 (Kevin Harvick) car. I think all of that should be OK. The car should be fine. It’s definitely going to be hot, but I think that’s what we all train for and all expect. Cup racing in the summer is a very uncomfortable environment and the Next Gen car has made that environment way more uncomfortable, but just have to keep training. I think that stuff pays off and hopefully I’m on the right side of that.”

YOU CAN RELATE TO WHAT ROSS CHASTAIN HAS BEEN THROUGH WHERE YOU’VE REALLY HAD TO GRIND TO GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO END UP WITH AN ELITE ORGANIZATION. HE’S HAVING THAT MOMENT AND WHEN THINGS KIND OF CLICKED FOR YOU AT HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS AND YOU GOT THAT FIRST WIN, WHAT WAS THE RELIEF AND WHAT DO YOU THINK HE’S GOING THROUGH?

“Yeah, definitely. We definitely have somewhat similar career paths. I think he drove some really good trucks and stuff; and had a lot of opportunities. But I think he’s been great this year. He’s super aggressive and I think this race car fits him really well. He’s been doing a really good job. Definitely had some drama around it and some people fired up, but I’m happy to see him win some races. I think he’s a super talented race car driver, so it’s cool to see.

For me personally, it was a big roller coaster. I got signed to Hendrick Motorsports and almost won some races in 2016 and then sat on the couch. In 2018, when I finally got that full-time ride, it was a really frustrating year. It didn’t come right away. But when it did come, like in 2019, we still weren’t phenomenal. Winning at Chicago, we were really good. It wasn’t really until last year – we won four races last year and three within a really short time span. It wasn’t really until that that it was like ‘we can do this every week’. It’s tough. The Cup Series is hard and when you get up, it will knock you right back down. It is always hard. There’s no being comfortable. But it’s good to see Ross (Chastain) having success.”

YOU MENTIONED ABOUT THIS CAR FITTING HIS STYLE. WE’VE SEEN PEOPLE WHERE THIS CAR DOES NOT FIT THEIR STYLE. ONE OF YOUR TEAMMATES, CHASE ELLIOTT, IS ONE OF THOSE GUYS. HE’S TALKED ABOUT IT AND ALAN (GUSTAFSON) HAS TALKED ABOUT IT. WHAT DO YOU THINK THE LEARNING PERIOD OR JUST GETTING ACCLIMATED IS? SOME OF THESE GUYS ARE GOING TO EMBRACE IT, THEY’RE GOING TO DIVE ALL IN. IS IT AN AGGRESSIVE DRIVER OR WHAT IS THE KIND OF STYLE THAT REALLY SUITS THIS?

“Ross’s (Chastain) style somewhat seems to be hitting people, which this car is obviously pretty tough. But aside from that, he’s just really aggressive. I think he can drive the heck out of. Obviously the Trackhouse cars are really, really good, so that doesn’t hurt either. But I think everybody is a head down, all-in and embracing it. There’s nobody that’s like ‘oh I don’t like this car; I’m not going to try’. Everybody knows that this is what we’ve got and know we have to figure it out. We’re just trying to figure it out quicker than the next guy.”

WHERE ARE YOU ON IT? HAVE YOU EMBRACED IT, ARE YOU DIGGING IT? DO YOU ENJOY DRIVING IT? HAVE YOU FOUND YOUR GROOVE FINALLY WITH THIS CAR?

“I think so. I’m trying my best to figure it out. It’s definitely been a learning curve. It’s just different. At some places, it’s more different than we thought it would be; and at other places, it’s really good. So just trying to figure it out. Going to a lot of places that we haven’t been with it yet is still the biggest question mark. We don’t have a notebook to lean on, so just trying to learn the most we can the quickest that we can.”

NASHVILLE SUPERSPEEDWAY IS A UNIQUE INTERMEDIATE TRACK, BOTH IN DISTANCE AND RACING SURFACE. A LOT OF TEAMS HAD BRAKE ISSUES THERE LAST YEAR. HOW IS THE NO. 48 TEAM APPROACHING THIS UNIQUE TRACK WITH THIS BRAND NEW CAR? HOW DO YOU THINK IT’S GOING TO PLAY OUT?

“I don’t know – I think it’s going to look like a 1.5-mile race. I feel like the race is going to be pretty good. I’m excited that they sprayed the resin higher on the race track than they have in the past. I think that will be a help. Just trying to be as prepared as we can be. Like I said, we don’t have any notes. We can kind of correlate notes to last year, but that’s kind of tough. Hopefully we’re on the right side of it.

But yeah, I don’t really anticipate any brake issues or anything like guys had last year. I think we’re in a better place and it should be pretty good.”

WITH ALL THE NON-STOP RACING THAT’S GOING TO KICK OFF THIS WEEKEND IN NASHVILLE TO THE END OF THE SEASON AT PHOENIX, HOW DO YOU PLAN TO KEEP YOURSELF REFRESHED, FIT, BUT ALSO NOT TOO BURNT OUT DURING THIS STRETCH?

“Yeah, the one off weekend for the whole year was an interesting move, for sure. I’m the super smart person that spent it just racing more (laughs). It’s definitely a tough, grueling season. It’s hard to complain about from a driver’s point of view when you see what the team guys are going through. I think it’s harder on them than anybody. I’m appreciative of all the hard work that the teams and their families put in. It’s a long year and a tough grind from here on out.

From my side of things, just have to keep steady. Train hard, work hard, during the week. The best way to stay refreshed and to not get burnt out is to run well. We’re going to do our best to make that happen.”

Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

• As a native of Las Vegas, Riley Herbst should feel right at home in Nashville. The capital of Tennessee may be best known as Music City, but its bright lights and lively nightlife have earned it another nickname – “Nashvegas.” That Nashville Superspeedway is an intermediate-style oval makes Herbst feel even more welcome. His history at intermediates is strong. His best career NASCAR Xfinity Series results have come at intermediates, where he owns a pair of second-place finishes – Feb. 29, 2020 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, and July 9, 2020 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta.

• In his first outing on Nashville’s 1.333-mile concrete oval in last year’s Tennessee Lottery 250, Herbst started 20th and finished 10th. Getting there, however, wasn’t as straightforward. Herbst worked his way into the top-15 by lap 39 and held the position until the end of first stage. But then in the final stage, Herbst and his No. 98 Monster Energy team were hit with two pit-road penalties. This dropped Herbst to the last car on the lead lap. Nonetheless, Herbst was able to overcome this bout of adversity to claw his way into the top-10. A caution on lap 181 set up a green-white-checkered finish. Herbst smartly opted to restart in the preferred line and it paid off as he scored his fourth top-10 of the season.

• The Tennessee Lottery 250 will mark Herbst’s 91st career Xfinity Series start. In total, he has 13 top-fives and 43 top-10s.

• While last year’s race was Herbst’s first at Nashville Superspeedway, it wasn’t his first in Music City. He has two starts in the ARCA Menards Series just 40 minutes west at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway. His best finish was seventh, earned in April 2017 during his first fulltime ARCA season.

After two weeks off, you’re back to racing. How did you spend the past two weeks away from the racecar?

“I think we all needed a reset these past two weeks. We hit a slump right before the break with finishes outside the top-10 at Charlotte and Portland. For myself, I went home to Las Vegas to spend time with family and celebrate my dad’s birthday. It was nice to just take a step back and recollect myself. I’m ready to get back to the track, though, and start another top-10 streak as we continue to move toward the playoffs.”

You should feel right at home in “Nashvegas” this weekend after growing up under the neon lights of Las Vegas. How excited are you to get back to Nashville Superspeedway for Saturday’s Tennessee Lottery 250?

“I’m pumped to head back to Nashville. The city itself is fun and so is the racing. I don’t know how to describe it, but the track works with my style of racing. This is a race that I had circled on the calendar for this summer – similar to Charlotte. It can be a difficult track, but you just have to put the pieces together. No mistakes, fast pit stops, and speed in the racecar.”

You scored a top-10 last year at Nashville in your first start at the track. Talk about your thoughts heading into this year’s race.

“We’re preparing like we always do, but I’m confident heading into Nashville. Last year was my first race there, and while mistakes were made, we finished top-10. I think that we’ve grown a lot since then. We’ve gotten better. We only had three top-10s on the season going into that race, but this year we have nine. If we can minimize the mistakes and stay out of trouble, we can get the job done this Saturday.”

Brittany Force, Erica Enders continue to pace Top Fuel, Pro Stock in points races

DETROIT (June 23, 2022) – Aaron Stanfield is looking to stitch together another solid race weekend in the Janac Brothers Chevrolet Camaro SS Pro Stock car as the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Camping World Drag Racing Series heads to Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.

Stanfield earned his first victory of the season at Phoenix in February and has reached the finals the past two races – winning June 19 at Bristol Dragway — to make a dent in Elite Motorsports teammate Erica Enders’ points lead.

“Being able to hand my dad a Pro Stock Wally at Bristol on Father’s Day is probably up there among my biggest (accomplishments),” said Stanfield, who won twice in Top Dragster at Bristol before jumping in a Pro Stock car.

“I don’t know if it necessarily means it’s clicking for me just yet. They’ve done a really good job with my race car. I should be doing well with as fast as it is.”

Enders, driver of the Melling Performance/Elite Motorsports Camaro SS, has advanced to the final round in five of the seven races, winning four. She holds a 19-3 record on race day.

Enders is also the defending Pro Stock winner at Norwalk. She defeated Greg Anderson, who went on to claim the 2021 class title in the HendickCars.com Camaro SS, in the final. He continues the quest for victory No. 100 to join John Force (155) as the only professional drivers with triple digit wins.

Brittany Force, runner-up in Top Fuel at Norwalk last year, continues to pace the field in points in the Flav-R-Pac/Monster Energy Chevrolet dragster. Force, with three victories, has held the top spot in the standings for a career-best five races.

Robert Hight, the No. 1 Funny Car qualifier at Bristol in the Automobile Club of Southern California Camaro SS, also has three wins and holds down second in the standings. He also holds the track Funny Car speed record, set in 2017. John Force, who reached the semifinals last week in the PEAK/BlueDEF Platinum Camaro SS, is fourth in the Funny Car standings. His next round win will the record-extending 1,400th of his illustrious career.

Austin Prock, a semifinalist in two races of the past three races in the Montana Brand/Rocky Mountain Twist Chevrolet dragster, is fifth in Top Fuel standings.

The race weekend will also feature the fifth round of the Constant Aviation Factory Stock Showdown. David Barton of Reading, Pennsylvania, took a step toward his second title in the category by driving his Chevrolet COPO Camaro to the victory last week at Bristol in an all-COPO final round against Stephen Bell of Shreveport, Louisiana.

“I feel like we have good momentum going. Every single race we’ve had a car in the final,” said Barton, who moved to the top of the standings. “We’ll keep it rolling as good as we can.”

Following the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, Chevrolet teams will prepare for the annual Western Swing – three consecutive weekends of racing – starting July 15-17 at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colorado.

BRITTANY FORCE, JOHN FORCE RACING, MONSTER ENERGY/FLAV-R-PAC CHEVROLET DRAGSTER (three-time winner this season; points leader; runner-up at Norwalk in 2021): “Heading into Norwalk, a quick turnaround from Bristol. Definitely OK with that. This Monster Energy / Flav-R-Pac team plans to pick up some points. We get four qualifying rounds before going into race day, which is awesome. We’re looking for a top three qualifying position and getting as many points as we can then going rounds on race day and getting into that winner’s circle.”

AUSTIN PROCK, JOHN FORCE RACING, MONTANA BRAND/ROCKY MOUNTAIN TWIST CHEVROLET DRAGSTER (runner-up at Pomona opener; semifinalist in two of past three races): “I’m excited for Norwalk. I have some unfinished business there. I was able to fill in for Clay last year and made it to the semis. I feel like that opportunity put me back on the map from a driving aspect. I’m looking to go all the way this year with my Montana Brand / Rocky Mountain Twist team. To get a win there would be an awesome story. I think we have the team to do it and we’re going to come in swinging.”

JOHN FORCE, JOHN FORCE RACING, PEAK BLUEDEF PLATINUM CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (No. 1 qualifier and Charlotte four-wide winner; won at track in 2014): “I’ve got a lot of history in Norwalk. The Bader Family, they do as amazing job putting on a real show. The stands are always packed, which is what drag racers live for, turning that corner and seeing all those fans. That really gets you going, really gets my energy up. This PEAK Chevy is right there in the hunt. Danny Hood and Tim Fabrisi, my crew chiefs, they make the adjustments, and they figure this Camaro out, we’ll be ready to go.”

ROBERT HIGHT, JOHN FORCE RACING, AAA OF OHIO CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (three-time winner this season; second in points; holds track Funny Car speed record, set in 2017): “I like these back-to-back races, I don’t like having all the downtime. So, I’m excited to be heading to Norwalk. We didn’t have the performance we wanted in Bristol and this gives an opportunity for this AAA team to quickly pick things back up,” Hight said. “We’re still second in points and it’s a tough field right now. We aren’t the only ones with three wins and when we aren’t winning, we still need to be going rounds, picking up qualifying points and making sure we’re still in it. We have to be consistent.”

PRO STOCK

KYLE KORETSKY, KB RACING, LUCAS OIL CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (No. 1 qualifier at Phoenix; runner-up at Gainesville; semifinalist in June 19 race at Bristol; third in standings): “Norwalk is a great track. Running back-to-back like this I feel better as a driver. I get more confidence. I was driving good and felt good (at Bristol). I thought if I could get past Greg (Anderson) in the second round I have a good shot at winning the race. The car was running good. In the semis, we just missed the setup a little bit. Norwalk, here we come. It is supposed to be good and hot, which my car likes and has a good tune-up for. We’ll be ready to go.”

DALLAS GLENN, KB RACING, RAD TORQUE SYSTEMS CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (winner at Gainesville; No. 1 qualifier at Epping; semifinalist in June 19 race at Bristol): “Going to Norwalk is one of my top races every year, even before I start driving my RAD Torque Systems / KB Racing Chevrolet Camaro.
