2007 Mustang GT500 | Customer Spotlight Released

AmericanMuscle Highlights a Performance-Focused Build

PAOLI, Pa. (June 13th, 2022) – Aftermarket parts authority AmericanMuscle (AM), inspires muscle-car enthusiasts with the release of a new episode in its “Customer Builds” YouTube series. AM host, Justin Dugan chats with the proud owner of a supercharged 2007 GT500 to learn more about his appearance mods, his solid list of performance mods, and the reason behind each choice. Viewers can head to the dedicated build page on AM’s website for the complete mods list, extra images, and more.

Justin begins the virtual interview with Ohio native Bobby L., by taking a closer look at his Cervini’s Cowl Hood. At 2.50 inches, the cowl is admittedly subtle, yet it makes a big difference to the look of the front end. Justin and Bobby review some other key mods including his Raxiom lights, JLT Big Air Cold Air Intake, Corsa Xtreme Axle-Back Exhaust, McCleod Ceramic Clutch Kit, and more. As the video wraps us, viewers will find out what other upgrades Bobby has in store for his ride. Justin’s final analysis? “I tell you what, if I had a Shelby like that, that year range, that’s exactly how I would build it. Sland on Alcoa’s, a little bit of a cowl hood, and just a lot of power.”

From the mean-looking cowl hood to the ‘wake-the-dead’ exhaust, this 2007 GT500 delivers loads of ideas for new and experienced Mustang owners alike. Viewers can visit the dedicated page below for full details on this clean and thoughtful build. A welcome addition to AM’s Mustang profiles, the online auto-parts provider plans to continue the video series with more interviews soon to be released.

Buddy Kofoid – No. 51 Mobil 1 Tundra TRD Pro Camping World Trucks Knoxville Preview

Buddy Kofoid: Driver, No. 51 Mobil 1 Toyota

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Overview:
Event: Clean Harbors 150, Race 13 of 23, 150 Laps – 40/50/60; 75 Miles
Location: Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway (Half-mile dirt-oval)
Date/Broadcast: June 18, 2022, at 9 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR 90

The Beat on Buddy the Dirt Driver::

Toyota Racing Development dirt standout Buddy Kofoid returns to KBM to make a second start behind the wheel of the No. 51 Mobil 1 Tundra TRD Pro Saturday at Knoxville Raceway. Mobil 1, the world’s leading synthetic motor oil, a long-time partner at KBM who also sponsors Kofoid’s Keith Kunz Motorsports midget entry, will serve as the primary sponsor on his Toyota as the Truck Series visits the prestigious half-mile dirt oval for the second time.

The California native made his Truck Series debut for KBM earlier this year at the Bristol Dirt Race. Kofoid was forced to start 32nd in the main event after an overheating issue relegated him to a ninth-place finish in Qualifying Race One. The talented wheelman quickly proved why he is one of the best on dirt as he made his way into the top 10 by the end of stage two. Kofoid was competing in the top five before he got caught up in a late-race incident with just 10 laps remaining. The damage from the incident would relegate Kofoid to a 27th-place finish.

The 20-year-old driver is off to a strong start to the 2022 dirt season. His most recent accolade was bringing home the USAC Indiana Midget Week title for the second consecutive year. Kofoid opened the week with victories at Bloomington Speedway and Lawrenceburg Speedway, which combined with victories earlier in the season at Port City Raceway in Tulsa, Okla., and Tri-City Speedway in Granite, Ill. gave the young driver a four-race winning streak on the USAC Midget National championship season. The reigning USAC Midget National champion once again sits atop the point standings, with a 46-point cushion on Justin Grant.

In addition to his USAC Midget accolades this year, Kofoid has turned heads racing across several dirt platforms. He outdueled Kyle Larson to win his qualifying night feature and went on to finish fourth in Saturday night’s A Feature in the Chili Bowl Nationals at the Tulsa (Okla.) Expo Center. He scored two victories across the first three events of the Lucas Oil POWRi National Midget schedule, including Toyota’s 400th national dirt midget victory March 25 at I-44 Riverside Speedway in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In Sprint Cars, he won the Weldon Sterner Memorial 410 Sprint Car feature at Lincoln (Pa.) Speedway.

Kofoid claimed the 2021 USAC Midget National championship on the strength of six victories in that series, which included two triumphs on his way to earning the USAC Indiana Midget Week title. The budding star also scored nine feature victories in the Lucas Oil POWRi National Midget Series, won the Trophy Cup Sprint Car Race at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif. and won the first two nights of the Wild Wing Shootout at Arizona Speedway in San Tan Valley.

In addition to his time on dirt, Kofoid has been gaining experience on pavement running over 10 late model events in the last year highlighted by a third-place finish in the Pro Late Model division at the All-American 400 at Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tenn. last October

Mardy Lindley returned to KBM for his second season atop the pit box of the No. 51 team. Lindley has led his team to six wins since coming to KBM at the start of the 2021 season, including two with Corey Heim and one with Kyle Busch this year. In 2021, his drivers produced three victories, two with Busch and one with Martin Truex Jr. Before arriving at KBM, Lindley guided his drivers to 32 wins and four ARCA Menards Series East championships since 2013, including back-to-back titles with Sam Mayer the last two seasons. Additionally, he earned the ARCA Menards Series Sioux Chief Showdown championship with Mayer in 2020. Behind the wheel, the second-generation driver won 11 races on the Pro Cup Series from 2000 to 2006 and was crowned the series champion in 2001. Lindley has crew chiefed three races on dirt, producing one win, and two top-10 finishes. The win came in the inaugural Bristol dirt race last year with Truex Jr. In last year’s race at Knoxville, he produced an eight-place result with dirt driver Brian Brown in his Truck Series debut.

Buddy Kofoid, Driver Q&A:
With one Truck Series race already under your belt are you able to be better prepared for this week’s race?
“I feel like I will be even more prepared now going into Knoxville because I think I have a good sense of the weight and power of the truck. Now that I have one race under my belt, I think I have a good sense of what to expect and am looking forward to getting back to it with Mardy (Lindley, crew chief) and all the guys on my Mobil 1 team.”

How do you think the racing at Knoxville will be compared to what you experience at Bristol?
“I think the biggest difference will be the lack of banking that Knoxville has compared to Bristol. In turn, I think that will make the grip level and speeds a lot less.”

You had a strong run at Bristol in your Truck Series debut. Does that raise your expectation level for this weekend?
“I feel like my expectations are always high because I put that on myself no matter what. But I think with the speed I had at Bristol I’m looking forward to capitalizing on that and am hungry to finish on a high note.”

Buddy Kofoid Career Highlights:

  • Outdueled Kyle Larson to win his qualifying night feature and went on to finish fourth in Saturday night’s A Feature in the 2022 Chili Bowl Nationals at the Tulsa (Okla.) Expo Center.
  • Claimed the 2021 USAC Midget National championship on the strength of six victories in that series, which included two triumphs on his way to earning the USAC Indiana Midget Week title.
  • Has been gaining experience on pavement running over 10 late model events in the last year highlighted by a third-place finish in the Pro Late Model division at the All-American 400 at Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tenn. in October of 2020.

Buddy Kofoid No. 51 Mobil 1 Tundra TRD Pro:

KBM-12: The No. 51 Mobil 1 team will race KBM-12 for Saturday’s dirt race at Knoxville, the same chassis that Kofoid drove at the Bristol Dirt Race. Martin Truex Jr. piloted this Tundra to a dominant victory last year at the Bristol dirt race when he led 105 of 150 laps en route to his first career Truck Series triumph. On pavement, this Toyota has one victory, with Erik Jones at Iowa Speedway in Newton in July of 2014.

KBM-12 Performance Profile
KBM Notes of Interest:

  • KBM drivers have recorded three wins, one pole, 478 laps led, nine top-five and 16 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 13.1 across 29 starts on dirt tracks.
  • Martin Truex Jr. picked up the organization’s most recent victory on a dirt track in the inaugural Pinty’s Truck Race on Dirt at Bristol Motor Speedway (2021). Bubba Wallace (2014) and Christopher Bell (2015) each picked up a win at Eldora Speedway.
  • KBM holds the Camping World Truck Series records for most career wins (95) and most wins in a single season (14 in 2014). With his victory at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 19, Corey Heim became the 18th different driver to win a Truck Series event for KBM. In addition to collecting a series-record seven Owner’s Championships, the organization has produced two championship-winning drivers: Erik Jones (2015) and Christopher Bell (2017).
  • With 40 victories, the No. 51 is the winningest number in KBM’s Truck Series fleet.

This Chevrolet was originally built in 2018, and won at Eldora Speedway in 2019 with Stewart Friesen behind the wheel. Though it might have only been raced a handful of times, this chassis has showed its prowess on the dirt, posting three top-10 finishes including an eighth place run in its most recent race at Bristol Dirt.
  • Clay Contender: In six career Truck starts on dirt, Enfinger hasn’t finished outside of the top-10 once. The veteran from Fairhope, Alabama also has three career dirt track wins in ARCA Menards Series competition, including two wins at the Duquoin Fairgrounds and one at the Springfield Mile. In the inaugural race at Knoxville last season, Enfinger showed his strength once again, finishing in third.
  • Playoffs Outlook: With four races remaining in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series regular season, Grant Enfinger remains ahead of the playoffs cutline. Enfinger is positioned ninth in the points standings, holding a 57 point cushion to the final spot. Additionally, the No. 23 Chevrolet currently holds tenth place in the owners’ championship battle. - GE Quote: “I’m looking forward to getting back on the dirt this weekend at Knoxville. I love the tracks that use a lot of throttle control, and Knoxville is one of those tracks that provides that challenge to us drivers. Last year’s race was wild and a bit of a blood bath, but we were able to avoid most of the drama and come home with a third place finish. The track will be constantly changing so having some adjustability in our truck and keeping up with the track is going to be crucial. My No. 23 Champion Power Equipment team has been bringing me some fast Silverado RST’s week-in and week-out, and I can’t wait to get after it on Saturday.”

This chassis has been a tried and true dirt truck, originally built in 2016 and winning on debut at Eldora Speedway with Kyle Larson driving. Since it was first raced, this Chevrolet has earned four top-10 finishes, and was most recently driven by Wood at Bristol Dirt earlier this season, where he finished 22nd.
  • Sunoco ROTY Update: A 16th place finish at Sonoma Raceway earned Jack Wood the Sunoco “Rookie of the Race” award, and more importantly, gained him some much needed points. In the chase for Rookie Of The Year, Wood sits in third position with 166 points. Now, just ten points out of the lead, and six points out of second place, the driver of the No. 24 is ready to make a charge for the rookie honors.
  • JW Quote: “I am eager to head back to Knoxville and return to the dirt. Last year, this race was quite a wreck fest, as most fans know, so hopefully we can keep our nose clean. I think that if you are able to stay out of the mess and survive, it could gift you a good finish. Tom and the rest of my No. 24 guys have definitely put in a lot of work to change up our dirt track program, so hopefully we will have some more balance in our platform that will allow me to race a little harder this week.”

Weir and Kohlbecker Show Strong Race Runs at Road America

USF2000 pair passes a total of 29 cars in two races, earning top ten finishes

Elkhart Lake, Wis. (June 15, 2022) – Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship drivers Christian Weir and Spike Kohlbecker showed strong race runs at this weekend’s Road America race event with both drivers racing their way into the top 10 and passing a combined 29 cars over the double-header event.

Rookie Christian Weir qualified 15th and 18th for Race 1 and Race 2 following a disappointing qualifying session that didn’t reflect the capability of the #32 car program. With the work cut out for him, Weir climbed his way up to a seventh place finish in Race 1 and an 11th place finish in Race 2, showing his racing capability and improving a total of 15 positions.

“This was a rough weekend but we still came out unscathed,” said Weir. “We were struggling on pace all weekend and didn’t know where to find it. Through our frustrations, we still ended up being competitive during the races. With not very many opportunities, we ended up lower than where we wanted, but there is always another time where we can show our true potential. I just want to thank the whole team for helping persevere through these hard times. These are the weekends that we can learn a lot from.”

Teammate Spike Kohlbecker also started deeper in the field for both races, but like Weir, knew he had the package to be racing at the front. Kohlbecker rose to the challenge, passing a total of seven cars in Race 1, finishing P9, and setting himself up for another solid run in the #33 car in Race 2. In Race 2, Kohlbecker had a great start and gained five positions up from P17 on the opening lap alone. Following an impressive drive in the 12-lap contest, Kohlbecker crossed the start/finish line in P10 to round out the weekend.

“Road America was definitely a learning weekend for me,” said Kohlbecker. “As a team, we struggled, but we all kept our heads up and tried to learn as much as we could through the weekend. I’m looking forward to the next event at Mid-Ohio in a couple of weeks!”

“We headed in the weekend with high expectations after a very good test here last year, but unfortunately the weekend proved quite challenging to give the drivers the balance they needed,” said Team Owner Peter Dempsey. “They both struggled in each qualifying session which left them on the back foot for the races, but I’m proud of the efforts they put in to drive the cars forward, and we gained a lot of positions in both races. We will regroup as a team and make sure we go to Mid-Ohio with a stronger program to allow the drivers to show their true potential.”

Next up for USF2000 is Rounds 11/12/13 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course June 30 – July 3.

Toledo, Oh. (June 15, 2022) –Atlas Roofing Corporation has signed on as the title sponsor of the ARCA Menards Series race on the Springfield Mile at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. The Atlas 100 is set for 2 pm ET/1 pm CT on Sunday, August 21 and will be televised live on MAVTV.

It marks the first involvement for Atlas with the series. Based in Atlanta, Atlas Roofing Corporation manufactures roof shingles, polyiso insulation, molded polystyrene, and paper and coated facers for new construction, remodels, and renovations.

“We always look forward to the summer months because that’s prime roofing season,” said Stanley Bastek, sales and marketing vice president for the Shingles and Underlayments division at Atlas. “It’s exciting for all of us to see the Atlas name as the entitlement sponsor for an ARCA Menards Series race, and even better for us to be associated with one of the most unique and traditional races on the schedule.”

The final weekend of the Illinois State Fair has featured two days of motorsports on the one-mile dirt oval since the 1960s, with the open wheel cars on Saturday and stock cars on Sunday. ARCA has sanctioned the stock car portion of the weekend since 1983, the first two of which were co-sanctioned with USAC. As it has since the 1950s, the USAC Silver Crown Series will once again be a part of the weekend with a 100-mile race on Saturday, August 20.

“The race at Springfield is one of our cornerstone events, stretching back to 1983,” said ARCA president Ron Drager. “It’s one of the races that we can directly tie back to the formative days of the sport when stock car races were held on dirt fairgrounds tracks all across the country. We’re proud to carry on this tradition, and we’re pleased to partner with Atlas for what promises to be a memorable day of racing.”

“We are thrilled to have Atlas on board for the ARCA Menards Series race at Springfield,” said Bob Sargent, president of Track Enterprises, promoter of the weekend’s racing events at the Illinois State Fair. “We have a long-standing relationship with ARCA and with the fair, and it’s always great to bring new partners into the sport.”

Wright Motorsports Ready to Shine as Home Team at VIRginia International Raceway

ALTON, Vir., (June 15, 2022) – The Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS journeys to VIRginia International Raceway this weekend for rounds five and six of the thirteen-race championship. The Wright Motorsports father and son-in-law driving duo of Charlie Luck and Jan Heylen soak up all of the benefits of the homefield advantage in the No. 45 Porsche 911 GT3 R, as Luck and his family hail from Richmond, Virginia.

“It’s always fun when we have a home race week,” said Team Owner John Wright. “Not only does the strong sense of familiarity and confidence help, but the Luck family always comes out to support and cheer us on at this event. The enthusiasm they bring is contagious, and we’re feeling good about having a strong performance at one of our favorite tracks.”

Luck has had great success at the 17-turn, 3.27-mile road course. In 2021, the Virginian dominated the double-header weekend with back-to-back wins in the GT America powered by AWS series in front of his home crowd. Heylen also had a strong run at the circuit last year in GT World Challenge America, scoring a pair of second-place finishes with then co-driver Fred Poordad. The pair competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans last weekend, and alongside fellow Wright Motorsports alumni Max Root, earned a notable fifth-place finish at the famed event.

This year, Luck has advanced up from GT America to the GT World Challenge America, the headlining series for SRO America. The advancement moved Luck from a single-driver sprint format to longer races in which he now shares the driving duties with co-driver and son-in-law, Heylen. The pair each split the driving duties over the course of each 90-minute race. Rules require Luck start the first race with Heylen taking over during the mandatory pit stop. Race one will begin on Saturday, June 18 at 2:15 PM ET, airing live on YouTube.com/GTWorld. Luck and Heylen will switch the driving order for race two, with Heylen starting and Luck closing out the event. Race two will begin on Sunday, June 19 at 1:15 PM ET, also airing live on the GT World YouTube page.

The team will be looking to rebound from a challenging weekend at NOLA Motorsports Park, where the group finished tenth and six, a rare departure from the consistent podium finishes the squad is known for. High temperatures will likely be a hindrance to deal with during the weekend, as is usually the case at VIRginia International Raceway in June. However, the No. 45 Porsche 911 GT3 R excels at the beautiful, wooded circuit, and Wright Motorsports will be the team to watch.

Charlie Luck // No. 45 Porsche 911 GT3 R
I can’t wait to get to VIR. We are looking forward to recovering from the struggles we had at New Orleans and certainly know the track well and can’t wait to compete again.

Jan Heylen // No. 45 Porsche 911 GT3 R
VIR! It’s a home race for Charlie and the family. It’s one of my favorite tracks on the schedule, and a fun track run by the best people. I hope we can keep building on Charlie’s momentum, as he keeps getting more and more comfortable in the car. It’ll be another hot race weekend, but NOLA’s warm and muggy temperatures could be considered preparation for this week!

· NCWTS: Knoxville Raceway (Iowa) – June 18
· ARCA: Berlin Raceway (Michigan) – June 18
· NHRA: Bristol Dragway (Tennessee) – June 19

PLANO, Texas (June 15, 2022) – It is the lone NASCAR Cup Series off-weekend, but several racing series are competing with the Truck Series, ARCA Menards Series and the NHRA Drag Racing Series in action.

NASCAR National Series – NCWTS

Last time on dirt… Ben Rhodes had an impressive performance the last time the NASCAR Truck Series was on dirt in Bristol. The reigning champion led 95 of 150 laps on the way to his first race win of the season.

Kofoid returns… The reigning USAC National midget champion Buddy Kofoid gets another opportunity in the Truck Series this weekend in the No. 51 Toyota Tundra for Kyle Busch Motorsports. Kofoid impressively drove through the field in Bristol before being involved in a late-race incident. The No. 51 team has won the last two truck series races with Kyle Busch and Corey Heim.

Battle for championship lead… Just 14 points separate the top-four in the point standings as the Truck Series has just four races left in the regular season. Rhodes continues to lead as he has a five-point advantage over Chandler Smith, with John Hunter Nemechek in fourth, just 14 points back.

Toyota continues to dominate Truck Series Playoff spots… With just four races remaining in the regular season, Toyota continues to dominate the provisional Playoff field. Rhodes, Smith, Nemechek and Stewart Friesen all have officially clinched berths on the strength of race wins. Ty Majeski and Christian Eckes both hold solid advantages over the cutoff line, while multi-time champion Matt Crafton currently holds down the final berth, as he is 33 points ahead of the 11th-place driver.

NASCAR Regional Series – ARCA

Smith on full schedule… Now officially 18, Toyota development driver Sammy Smith can compete in the balance of the 2022 ARCA Menards Series season for Kyle Busch Motorsports in the No. 18 Toyota Camry. It is Smith’s first time competing in the ARCA Menards Series at Berlin Raceway.

NHRA – Top Fuel | Funny Car

DeJoria looks to defend… Alexis DeJoria won her first race since returning to NHRA Funny Car action at Bristol Dragway last fall, defeating Toyota-teammate J.R. Todd in the final. DeJoria, Todd and Ron Capps are all vying to be the first winner in the all-new Toyota GR Supra Funny Car body.

Ashley continues to impress… Justin Ashley is coming off another stellar performance as the New York-native advanced to another final round. With the final round effort, Ashley moved to just over five rounds off the championship points lead.

Five movies about races for those who love speed

Racing is full of speed, emotions, feats on the track, shocking accidents, the happiness of victory, and the bitterness of defeat. The same can be said about the moments when motorsport breaks onto big and small screens. We have collected five dynamic films about racing that capture the viewer from the first seconds.

1. Rush, 2013

Ron Howard’s picture is based on real events. It tells the story of the confrontation between Niki Lauda and James Hunt, two Formula One pilots. Their rivalry reaches its peak during the 1976 season. The viewer watches how the fate of the heroes leads them to a pivotal moment, and the life of the athletes outside the circuit becomes part of the race.

Something similar is happening these days between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. Their rivalry does not go beyond sports yet, but during the races, for the sake of victory, they are ready to do whatever it takes. If you know which one of them will take over this season, you can place a bet at one of the bookmakers presented at bookmaker ratings za.

2. Driven, 2001

Jimmy (Kip Pardu) is a gifted young athlete who suddenly loses his grip and sets out to find a mentor to save his career. Ex-champion Joe Tento (Sylvester Stallone), who had left the world of racing after an accident, comes to help him. With his invaluable experience and knowledge of cunning tricks, Joe quickly brings up the new king of the roads. In parallel with this, Stallone’s character seeks to return behind the wheel of the racing car himself and prove to the world that his own path has not yet ended.

Despite the simple plot, Renny Harlin’s film is not inferior to many disaster films in terms of dynamics, drive, and emotional intensity.

3. Ford v Ferrari, 2019

The film is based on a true story. It is partly a production, partly a sports drama about how Ford went through a severe crisis in the 1960s, slowly closing factories and laying off workers. The corporation needed a breakthrough, and the invention of the Ford Mustang paid off. But to strengthen its position, it needed to beat the fast and stylish Ferrari in the French 24 Hours of Le Mans race.

The duo of designer Caroll Shelby and pilot Ken Miles, played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale, take on this task. The movie keeps the viewer in tension and very accurately creates a sense of presence. No wonder the picture took two Oscars for best editing and best sound editing.

4. The World’s Fastest Indian, 2005

The film is based on real events. It tells the story of Bert Monroe, who spends 25 years of his life perfecting the 1920 Indian Scout motorcycle. He modifies it with parts of his own production. In the mornings he disturbed the neighbors with the roar of the engine. At the age of 68, Bert goes to fulfill his dream and present his creation to a real race.

The plot focuses on the protagonist overcoming various obstacles on the way to the USA from New Zealand and the events of the races themselves. This is an inspiring story that even old age and lack of funds are not an obstacle to fulfilling a dream.

5. Death Race, 2008

The film takes place in an alternate reality in 2012, where the global economic crisis and unemployment have led to an increase in crime and self-financing of prisons. The warden of one of them decides to arrange a competition that would break all viewer records, a death race. There are no rules, just a killer truck. Liberation is the reward.

The movie is suitable for those who want to relax after a day’s work: a dynamic action movie without an overloaded plot with endless explosions, fights, special effects, and brutal Jason Statham.

Cabarrus Virtual Academy Principal Ken Simeone Top of the Class In CookOut Summer Shootout School Bus Slobberknocker

  • Ken Simeone, Cabarrus Virtual Academy principal, secured the checkered flag in the principal school bus race at the CookOut Summer Shootout at Charlotte Motor Speedway
  • Aidan Zschiedrich (Beginner Bandits), Darren Krantz Jr (Bandolero Bandits), Bobby Gossett (Outlaws), TJ Decaire (Young Lions), Carson Brown (VP Racing Semi-Pro), Ethan Norfleet (Boston Reid & Co. Pro) and Doug Stevens (Masters) also victorious in Round 2 of CookOut Summer Shootout at Charlotte Motor Speedway

CONCORD, N.C. (June 14, 2022) – Schools out, however, class was still in session Tuesday night as six area principals hit the quarter-mile track at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the CookOut Summer Shootout with hopes of being named top of the class in the long-awaited return of principal school bus racing.

Cabarrus County Schools Virtual Academy principal Kenneth Simeone bested the field, which also included Northwest Cabarrus Middle school principal Chasity Szabo, J.N. Fries Magnet school principal Sherry Lee, Hickory Ridge Middle school principal Tim Taylor, Winecoff Elementary School principal Trisha Cook and Diocese of Charlotte Catholic School principal Greg Monroe.

Simeone took the lead early and never looked back. Behind him, Taylor was the big mover of the race, starting in the sixth and final spot before bulldozing his way to the front to finish in the runner-up position. Chasity Szabo, principal at Northwest Cabarrus STEM Middle, filled out the podium with a third-place finish in the wildly popular school bus slobberknocker.

Smoke poured out of the engine of Simeone’s orange-painted machine, but the hotshoe driver pulled away from the competition late in the race.

“That was awesome,” Simeone said as he climbed out of his bus victoriously. “That was one of the coolest things I’ve done.”

While Simeone took home the trophy, fans were the real winners Tuesday night. The final two finishers, J.N. Fries Magent’s Sherry Lee and Winecoff Elementary school’s Trish Cook, got sent to detention – and in a pie in the face – for bringing up the rear of the field, much to the delight of their respective cheering sections.

Following the school pride event, Round 2 took place with the competition between the Bandolero and Legend Cars drivers.

Beating, Banging, Bandoleros

In the Bandolero Bandits division, Beckham Malone took the early lead heading into the first corner by going three-wide, but lost the position to Darren Krantz Jr., who pulled away from the field.

Ben Morabito brought out caution No. 1 with a spin on lap four. Malone and Krantz battled on the restart, opening the door for Colt Johnson, who moved up to second in a three-way battle for the lead.

Contact between Malone and Johnson sent Johnson spinning and bringing out the second caution of the night on lap eight. On the ensuing restart, Krantz took control. Morabito, charging back from his earlier spin, moved into second, while Johnson held off Mardy Roberts III for third.

The caution flew for a third time when Bryson Brinkley’s machine came to a stop on the frontstretch. Krantz’s dominance on restarts proved to be the difference as the young driver pulled away on the final restart of the contest, leading Morabito, Johnson, Malon and Carson Cauble to the checkered flag.

“It feels great,” he said of the Round 2 win. “I was trying to stay calm, make sure I got good starts, make my line better and just be faster on the restarts.”

Brown Takes VP Racing Semi-Pro Win

Carson Brown went wire-to-wire in a time-shortened VP Racing Semi-Pro division victory. The 21-lap affair was marred by a lengthy red flag after hard-charging Jayden Daniels and Michael Crafton got tangled up in Turn 2, with Crafton driving over the front of Daniels’ Legend Car.

With his strongest competition relegated to the pits, Brown, who finished runner-up to Daniels in last night’s opening round of the CookOut Summer Shootout, pulled away from the field to earn his first win of the young season.

“I was struggling there at the end on exit,” Brown said. “It’s awesome to win here at Charlotte. It’s a big track to win at – a big accomplishment.”
