MSR Heads to Detroit Belle Isle with IndyCar, IMSA doubleheader

#06: Helio Castroneves, Meyer Shank Racing Honda

Detroit, Mich. (31 May 2022) – Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) will be making a final double-duty visit to Belle Isle Park on June 3-5 for the Detroit Grand Prix, a combined NTT INDYCAR SERIES and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship weekend.

This will be the final event at the 14-turn, 2.3-mile temporary track, located on an island in the Detroit River between the U.S. and Canada. The venue has hosted competition since 1992, when it replaced a downtown track that debuted with a Formula 1 race in 1982. For 2023, both series will race on a new course as competition returns to downtown Motor City.

Meyer Shank Racing’s Castroneves, Pagenaud Both Winners at Detroit

Driver Lineup:

Helio Castroneves: No. 06 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda

Simon Pagenaud: No. 60 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda;

Tune in:

Saturday, June 5, USA/Peacock (3:00pm ET)

SiriusXM Ch. 205

Only one week following the Indianapolis 500 which saw MSR finished seventh and eighth, the team will take to the streets in Sunday’s Detroit Grand Prix.

Both Meyer Shank Racing drivers have enjoyed success in the past at the venue. Castroneves competed in 17 races in Detroit between his time in IndyCar and Champ Car. Castroneves claimed his first-ever IndyCar victory at Belle Isle in 2000. Castroneves also originated the fence climb victory celebration following his 2000 Detroit win.

Castroneves went on to win in 2001 and 2014 as well as collecting poles in 2007 and 2014. His last appearance was 2017, when he finished seventh and ninth in the double-header IndyCar weekend.

Pagenaud raced at Belle Isle 17 times from 2012 through 2021 and won his very first INDYCAR race at Belle Isle in 2013. In addition, he has four podium finishes in Detroit. He also captured poles for both of the 2016 races.

MSR ran its No. 60 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda in the 2021 Detroit Grand Prix. Jack Harvey finished 16th in the opening race, but lost time with punctures after being hit by opponents in the Sunday round, finishing 23rd.

Driver Quotes:

Helio Castroneves:

“Detroit brings me a lot of memories, that’s where the fence climb started. I raced for so many years with Roger (Penske) and made friends as well. It’ll be great to do the last race on Belle Isle before we move to racing downtown next year. I’m looking forward to going back and hopefully climbing the fence again.”

Simon Pagenaud:

“I’m getting ready for Detroit, which is a very important place to me. It’s where I won my first INDYCAR race in the past. We’re going with Meyer Shank Racing and for the last year at Belle Isle as we go next year to the streets of downtown Detroit. Meanwhile, the goal is to go and win that race. We have an awesome race car for the street course, so we’re hoping we can go and get that top spot for the last one at Belle Isle.”

Meyer Shank Racing takes back-to-back second-place finishes to Belle Isle

Driver Lineup:

Tom Blomqvist and Oliver Jarvis: No. 60 AutoNation / SiriusXM Acura ARX-05 DPi

Tune In:
Saturday, June 4, 2022 on USA Network and Peacock (3:00 p.m. ET)

SiriusXM Ch. 202

MSR remains in the thick of the battle for the IMSA DPi championship, trailing the leaders by only 32 points on the strength of back-to-back second-place finishes at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and Mid-Ohio. The team opened the season by winning the 60th Rolex 24 At Daytona, joined by Castroneves and Pagenaud. The team placed fifth in the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, and then saw a potential podium finish slip away in the final two minutes with a fourth-place finish at Long Beach.

MSR is a two-time winner at Belle Isle, taking GTD honors in 2017 and 2018. The 2017 win was the very first victory for the Acura NSX GT3 in North America.

Jarvis raced in three WeatherTech Championship events at Belle Isle from 2018-2021, finishing fourth in last year’s event. The Detroit weekend will be Blomqvist’s first race in Detroit – and is the only venue on the IMSA calendar that he has not raced at.

Driver Quotes:

Oliver Jarvis:

“We’re coming off the back of some pretty strong results, but we know Detroit is a track that probably favors the Cadillacs a bit more. But we were strong in Long Beach so we know we have a solid car on street courses. If we can work it out between now and then, hopefully we can close that gap in the championship. It’s important to maximize our points and close that gap to the 10 car.”

Tom Blomqvist:

“Detroit is another street track, another set of challenges compared to the last two events. I think we need to look back at how we performed at Long Beach. It will be a bit of a tough weekend for us as Detroit is a track that is more suited to the Cadillacs. But nonetheless we showed a lot of promise in Long Beach and hopefully we can carry that direction into Detroit. I’m looking forward to it – it’s actually the only track on the calendar that I don’t know. So I’ll need to get my bearings and get up to speed a bit more quickly, and it’s not an easy track, it’s actually quite challenging. But I know we’ll go into the weekend as we always do and hopefully we’ll have another good result.”

Nitro Rallycross Announces Sweden On Sale Details

2-DAY WEEKEND EVENT COMING TO
STRANGNAS MOTORSTADION JULY 30-31;
TICKETS AVAILABLE STARTING THIS FRIDAY, JUNE 3rd

(Los Angeles – Tuesday, May 31, 2022) Nitro Rallycross has announced on sale details for the Sweden stop of its inaugural global series. The disruptive new force in motorsports is coming to Strangnas Motorstadion on July 30-31 for an action-packed weekend of racing that will be biggest Swedish event of the summer.

Motorsport icon Travis Pastrana will aim to take the checkered flag in Group E, Nitro RX’s new top class, featuring the most powerful vehicle in rallycross: the electrifying FC1-X. To top the podium, Pastrana will have to face off against the world’s best drivers on Nitro RX’s tough tracks, which push competitors’ limits with huge jumps, banked turns and steep berms. To date, Nitro RX Sweden’s stacked lineup includes Sweden’s Robin Larsson (DRR JC) and Norway’s Andreas Bakkerud (DRR JC), with more driver announcements coming soon.

Nitro Rallycross Sweden will also feature more high-impact racing action, including the iconic Supercar class, the development NRX Next division – which will feature female Swedish motorsport star Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinsky (JC Raceteknik) – and more.

Pastrana said, ““We are so excited to bring Nitro Rallycross to Sweden. The fans are super passionate about motorsport and it is home to some of rallycross’ biggest names. Touring the world with Nitro Circus, the crew always looked forward to the energy the Swedish fans brought to the arena. I’m not sure there is a better fit for the high-adrenaline thrills and door-to-door racing of Nitro Rallycross.”

Tickets go on sale this Friday – June 3rd – and will be available at nitrorallycross.com. Both general admission weekend tickets and premium VIP access through Club Nitro RX passes will be available. More information on Club Nitro RX’s premium amenities is detailed below.

Nitro RX Sweden will be the second of ten rounds staged in six countries, following the series kickoff at the U.K.’s legendary Lydden Hill on 18-19 June. Additional stops include sites in the United States, Finland, Canada and Saudi Arabia, all building to the first global Nitro RX series championship.

Sweden fans will see the competition debut of the FC1-X. This revolutionary vehicle delivers the electric equivalent of 1,070 peak horsepower (800 kW) and accelerates from 0-60 in just 1.4 seconds, launching faster off the line than an F1 car. Nitro RX competitors got their first taste of the FC1-X’s game-changing capabilities during pre-season testing last month and came away impressed. This summer, with series points and championship standings on the line, look for drivers to take the gloves off.

The all-new, all electric FC1-X during pre-season testing

The FC1-X will flex its muscles in Nitro RX’s new top Group E division. Just as the legendary Group B cars set the motorsport world ablaze in the 1980s, Nitro RX’s new Group E class is set to make another quantum leap. That inspiration, supercharged by Nitro Circus’ limit-pushing DNA, will show the massive performance potential of electric vehicles unleashed by the fastest rallycross cars ever seen.

In addition to the competition debuts of the FC1-X and Group E, Nitro RX 2022-23 will feature an expanded offering of high-impact racing. Internal combustion Supercars will return, giving fans a double dose of elite rallycross competition while NRX Next is back as well, providing a pathway for the next generation of drivers. Nitro RX Sweden will also include a special CrossCar competition, offering fans even more wide-open action.

This season, fans can enjoy enhanced experiential elements at each Nitro RX stop, including the opportunity to get fully immersed in the event with the all-new Club Nitro RX. Highlighted by a private trackside viewing location and a brand-new Club Nitro RX area, passholders will enjoy all-inclusive food and beverage, a private lounge, on-site entertainment and a chance to meet Nitro RX drivers. This new premium experience puts fans in the center of the action all weekend long.

No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Mustang to Celebrate 100 Years of Ford Supporting Disabled American Veterans in St. Louis

  • Ford has donated 247 vehicles to DAV Transportation Network since 1996 to assist with transporting disabled veterans to medical appointments.
  • DAV has more than 1 million members across the U.S. to help veterans coordinate benefits and medical care. In a typical year, DAV provides more than 500,000 rides per year to appointments.

Dearborn, Mich. (May 31) – The No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Mustang will celebrate the 100-year relationship between Ford and DAV (Disabled American Veterans) with a unique paint scheme at the NASCAR Cup Series race in St. Louis on June 5.

In 1922, Henry Ford provided 50 Model T Ford vehicles to help disabled World War I veterans attend DAV’s second national convention. DAV, which was established following World War I, helps more than a million veterans each year to access the healthcare and benefits they earned through military service.

“All of us at Ford are incredibly proud of our 100-year relationship with DAV,” said Joe Avila, Community Development Manager, Ford Motor Company Fund. “It is an honor to continue growing our relationship, which began by providing vehicles to veterans, and has expanded over the years to ensure that even more veterans have access to reliable transportation to reach their healthcare and medical appointments.”

DAV created its transportation network in 1987. Since 1996, Ford has donated 247 vehicles. DAV members and their families have purchased more than 30,000 Ford vehicles through the Ford X-Plan Partner Recognition Program. Ford Transits and Explorers are among those provided and some include mobility solutions to meet the needs of disabled veterans. Each Ford DAV vehicle has a uniform, exterior graphics package. For the St. Louis race, the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Mustang will have a paint scheme emblematic of those graphics.

“We are thrilled to be highlighting 100 years of cooperation between DAV and Ford in this manner,” said DAV National Adjutant & CEO Marc Burgess. “We provide more than 500,000 rides for veterans each year and that wouldn’t be possible without Ford providing us with vehicles. Of course, we also need drivers for those cars and the volunteers at DAV are amazing. The DAV St. Louis chapter is outstanding, so it’s very meaningful to have this special paint scheme on display in their community.”

Ford’s involvement with the veteran community also extends to the job market. The company employs approximately 6,000 veterans. Since 2019, the Ford-Lincoln Veteran Careers Program has been part of New Ford Tech, which attracts and trains the next generation of Ford service technicians.

“The Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing Team is very pleased to celebrate Ford’s and DAV’s shared effort to support veterans,” said Gina Scappaticci, Marketing Manager for Ford Customer Service Division (FCSD). “One of our FCSD objectives is to attract new technicians. In just a few years our Veteran Careers Program-enrolled dealerships have hired hundreds of veterans through this 24-month GI Bill-approved apprenticeship. These veterans are highly skilled and experienced, which immediately benefits our service departments.”

May is Military Appreciation Month, which NASCAR and Wood Brothers Racing recognize each season. Among those honored for their service each spring is Leonard Wood, one of the patriarchs of Wood Brothers Racing, who applied his engineering acumen while serving in the Army as a mechanic.

“Our family has had the great fortune of being supported by Ford for more than 70 years, so we’re proud to commemorate this 100th year of Ford and DAV partnering to help veterans,” said Eddie Wood, co-owner of Wood Brothers Racing. “Caring for our service men and women, especially those who suffered injuries, is a duty we all share as Americans.”

The NASCAR Cup Series race in St. Louis on June 5 will be televised on FS1 and begin at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Notes of Interest

● Dontcha just love Busch Light and its Twitter promotions? You betcha! So, with Kevin Harvick’s No. 4 Busch Light Ford Mustang coming to St. Louis for the inaugural Enjoy Illinois 300 NASCAR Cup Series race, Busch Light wanted to showcase some hometown hospitality and highlight the politeness of Midwesterners. As such, Harvick will drive the #BuschLightPolite Ford Mustang in Sunday’s race in St. Louis – the home of Anheuser-Busch and the gateway to the Midwest. When the green flag drops at 3:30 p.m. EDT, fans should kick off their tennis shoes, follow @BuschBeer and tune into FS1’s coverage of the race. Then, every time Harvick makes a pass during the race, @BuschBeer will encourage fans to tweet the hashtags #BuschLightPolite and #Sweepstakes for the chance to win a garage fridge to hold all their brewskis.

● The NASCAR Cup Series will make its first visit to St. Louis with the Enjoy Illinois 300, but it will not be Harvick’s first visit to the 1.25-mile oval located just across the Mississippi River in Madison, Illinois. The 47-year-old racer from Bakersfield, California, first competed at what was originally known as Gateway International Raceway on Sept. 19, 1998 in a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race. A 22-year-old Harvick started 21st and finished 11th in his 39th career Truck Series start. Harvick returned to Gateway a year later for his second Truck Series start at the track, starting 10th and finishing 27th. But it was his third start at Gateway – this time in a NASCAR Xfinity Series car on July 29, 2000 – that proved to be Harvick’s breakthrough moment. In his 21st career Xfinity Series start – and first in an Xfinity Series car at Gateway – Harvick won to score his first Xfinity Series victory, beating Jeff Purvis by 1.338 seconds. Harvick would go on to win two more Xfinity Series races that year en route to a third-place finish in the championship standings. In his return to Gateway the following year, Harvick successfully defended his Xfinity Series win by beating Jason Keller for the victory by .165 of a second. It was his third win of a five-win season that culminated with the 2001 Xfinity Series championship. Harvick won a second Xfinity Series title in 2006 and he has 47 career Xfinity Series wins.

● In all, Harvick made five Xfinity Series starts at Gateway, leading a total of 332 laps and completing all but two of the 1,000 laps available.

● Harvick has three Truck Series starts at Gateway, with his third and final start on July 17, 2010 being his best. Harvick won the pole and dominated, leading 143 of the race’s 160 laps to beat Brad Keselowski by 5.241 seconds. It was the ninth of his 14 career Truck Series victories.

Kevin Harvick, Driver of the No. 4 #BuschLightPolite Ford Mustang

The first of your 47 career NASCAR Xfinity Series wins came at Gateway on July 29, 2000. You beat Jeff Purvis by 1.338 seconds. What do you remember about that win?

“The thing I remember the most was that week, Richard (Childress, team owner) brought me into his office and told me that we needed to stop crashing cars and that we needed to figure out how to finish races. I think it was the 12th or 13th race of the season and he was tired of tearing stuff up. And then we go out and win that week and I remember what a relief it was to finally get that first one out of the way. We built a team and had our good moments and bad moments – we missed a race at Rockingham (North Carolina). So we had gone through a lot of things at the beginning of that season and, to finally get that first win, it was really the momentum that finally kicked off all the things that happened after that. From that point forward, Gateway was always a great track for me and we’ve had a lot of success there.”

You made a total of five Xfinity Series starts at Gateway, winning two of them. What does it take to be good there?

“Well, it’s two drastically different ends of the racetrack. I know, for us, the thing that we always concentrate on is trying to make your car turn really well to and through the center of the corner on both ends, and being able to do that is difficult at Gateway because the two ends of the track are so different, and you wind up probably downshifting in turns one and two. With what they’ve done with the track – it’s different pavement than what I raced on a long time ago – it’ll be interesting to see if they put resin down or PJ1 down to make that top groove go. But, for the most part, you want to be right next to those curbs and carry as much speed as you can through the center of the corner, and as much partial throttle until you can get the car rotated enough to be wide open. But you have to get through the center of the corner there.”

Is Gateway applicable to other flat ovals like New Hampshire or Phoenix, or is it an entity all its own?

“I think you can apply a lot of things there that you do at those racetracks, but it kind of has its own nuances that are different than those two. But I think the same general things will apply.”

When you last raced at Gateway in 2010, the only drivers currently racing in Cup who competed in that Xfinity Series race were Ricky Stenhouse Jr., and Brad Keselowski. Martin Truex Jr., also competed there back in his Xfinity Series days, and there have been other drivers like Bubba Wallace and Cole Custer who competed and won there in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Does that history give you guys a leg up at Gateway, or is it so long ago that it doesn’t really matter anymore?

“A lot of the tendencies are still the same. I think that really has never changed because of the unique layout of the track. Those same basic characteristics will still be there and the things that you need to do will still be very similar. I think just adapting that to the new car will be the biggest thing and what makes it tick.”

You’ve represented Anheuser-Busch since 2011, which means you’ve made a lot of trips to St. Louis over the years. What are some of the experiences you’ve had in that city and what are some of your favorite parts of that town?

“Going to watch the Cardinals’ World Series game with them. I don’t remember which game it was, but it was probably one of the best experiences that I’ve had at a sporting event just because of the atmosphere and the way that they support their team there. It was pretty awesome.”

You’re a two-time Busch Series champion too. Did those titles back when Busch was the series sponsor (before Xfinity) send you to St. Louis for some promotional activity?

“I remember going to the brewery and going down into the basement where they first started a lot of the deliveries after Prohibition, and just taking a complete tour of the whole thing was pretty cool.”

Do you have a sense of pride racing in St. Louis again knowing your history with that track and with Anheuser-Busch?

“I know it’s an important place for A-B, obviously, being their home. But for me, personally, it’s a cool place because of the history that it has with my first win in the Xfinity Series and everything that goes with that. So, yeah, I’m excited about going there for a number of different reasons.”

Two Friends Golf And Jack Wood Tee Up At World Wide Technology Raceway

STATESVILLE, NC: GMS Racing is proud to announce a new partnership with golfing apparel company, Two Friends Golf. The primary partnership, which will hit the racetrack this weekend at World Wide Technology Raceway, is sure to be a hit and will appeal to the younger generation of racing fans and golfing fans alike.

Founded in 2020 by two friends who enjoyed playing golf and having an even better time while doing it, the clothing brand sought to revolutionize the golf apparel world. Two Friends Golf burst onto the scene promoting wild, bold polo designs, instantly becoming popular with college aged men and women. Now, as the brand becomes more popular than ever, they have branched out to produce other products such as swim trunks, custom golfing gloves, hats, and more.

Jack Wood fits their brand’s image to a tee, and is excited to welcome the new partnership, stating this before the announcement: “I’m a huge fan of what Matt, Nate, and the entire Two Friends Golf family has been working on over the past couple of years. Their designs fit great with my personal style, and I believe that they can be a hit with some other young NASCAR drivers who golf as well. I’m thankful to have their support as we race at Gateway this weekend, and look forward to debuting our colorful No. 24 TFG Chevy. Hopefully, we can execute and hit a hole-in-one this week!”

Gateway is the site of Wood’s best-career finish in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (10th in 2021), so it makes for the perfect location to kick off the new partnership. The team looks forward to an exciting weekend in St. Louis with Two Friends Golf.

“We are very excited for not only the race this weekend but also the opportunity to debut the first NASCAR truck sponsored by a golf apparel company. ABOUT TWO FRIENDS GOLF:

Two Friends Golf was brought to life in Scottsdale, Arizona by two friends that have been buddies since the first day of college (SKOO Sun Devils). After playing a course on a hot afternoon, we started to realize something: golf needs to change. We don’t mean changing the game itself, but changing the way your average golfer dressed. Almost everyone we saw on the course was wearing a single color, no character, average golf polo. Now don’t get us wrong, we’re not the greatest golfers, but we believe the better you dress, the better you play approach to the game.

As soon as we left the golf course, we immediately searched google to find our wardrobe upgrade but ultimately couldn’t find something that screamed “this guy’s about to hit a hole-in-one.” So what did we do? Well, we researched for months, created design after design, and found a way to put our personalities into golf polos of our own. Our original plan was to make golf polos for ourselves and then have a few extras for friends and family. But after seeing all of the built-up excitement for our golf polos, we knew that we needed way more than just a couple of polos. Within two hours, Two Friends Golf completely sold out of both designs. At that point, we decided to go full steam ahead and make the best dang golf apparel company there is. Since then, we’re in three retail locations and one golf pro shop in Arizona.

No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-05 Places Detroit Focus on Championship Lead

Brownsburg, Ind. (May 31, 2022) — The No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-05 will roll off the hauler on Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan with a lot of momentum, having won the last two IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship races. However, with the Championship lead at stake, co-drivers Ricky Taylor, Filipe Albuquerque and the entire team are focused on maximizing their result at the urban island park’s unforgiving circuit—the venue’s last street race before the event moves to downtown Detroit in 2023.

Belle Isle’s 14-turn, 2.35-mile street course is home to the second 100-minute sprint on the IMSA calendar—a race in which the team scored a podium last year. The blue and black Konica Minolta crew has four wins in the Motor City throughout their history, and Ricky Taylor has driven on three of those occasions.

“It’s always an exciting weekend in Detroit and it is one of the more unpredictable race weekends on the calendar,” said Ricky Taylor. “Last year we learned some important lessons on the car setup side, so I think we are all excited to go to Detroit and execute a strong performance. The race is short but intense so, while we want to take risks to maximize points, Detroit is unforgiving. We want to come away still leading the points going into Watkins Glen.”

While Ricky Taylor and Filipe Albuquerque stood third on the podium last year, Albuquerque has yet to win in Detroit. He’s positive about the team’s prospects this weekend.

“We are coming from good momentum with two wins in a row,” said Filipe Albuquerque. “Obviously, it’s great and we knew that those tracks were suitable for our car. Detroit is a track that I really like and would like to win at. It’s one of the most challenging tracks that I’ve raced in my career. It’s long, a street course, it’s bumpy, sometimes it’s narrow and other times it’s wide with slow and fast corners. It’s a very complete track. It has a special place in my heart. I know that it will be a really hard race for the Acuras. It’s not our perfect match, but we know that going in, so we’ll go there to do our best. A podium would make us very happy and we know that it’s possible. Let’s keep eyeing that and make the best of the championship.”

Four-time winner as a team owner, Wayne Taylor is confident in his organization as they push for the overall IMSA championship title.

“I’m looking forward to Detroit, I think it’s a great event,” said team owner, Wayne Taylor. “We’re coming into the weekend with the championship points lead, so we’ll have a good pit stop position which will be good. The Detroit circuit isn’t the best for the Acura chassis, but last year we ended up on the podium and we know we have a better chance to do much better than the streets of Long Beach. We might make some crazy strategy calls to keep ourselves in the lead. It’s only a 100-minute race, so strategy is going to play an important role and track position is everything. With our stall being in the front of the pits, we’ll be able to see the other cars coming in for a pit stop. The car, team and Ricky and Filipe are good, so I’m happy.”

Practice for the Detroit Grand Prix begins this Friday, June 3rd at 8:00 a.m. ET. Qualifying is set for Saturday at 5:30 p.m. ET. Green flag for the main event will wave at 3:10 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 4th with full coverage streaming on Peacock and television coverage on the USA Network beginning at 3:00 p.m. ET.

6 Things You May Not Know About NASCAR

One of the greatest continuous races in the history of this planet is NASCAR. The series of races are televised globally and has hundreds of millions of fans. Every race has an attendance of over 150,000 people watching it live and millions in front of the TV.

It seems like everyone loves NASCAR. Some fans go the extra mile by collecting items connected to previous historical events and keeping souvenirs from drivers that were part of it. If you’re one of those who are in love with this type of car racing, you surely know a lot about it.

No matter how much you think you know, there are some things you are surely not aware of. In this article, we’re sharing six interesting facts that you might be interested in. Keep reading to see if you know these things, and learn something new if you don’t.

1. NASCAR was founded in 1948

William Henry Getty France founded NASCAR in 1948. At that time he was considered a car enthusiast and a stock car driver, but an amateur in racing. By then, other races were already established, like the Indy 500 or the raging Europe scene.

William tried to finance the event through the AAA but was turned down. After this, he took things into his own hands and financed drivers from ticket sales. Since then, NASCAR has become one of the biggest racing events on the planet.

2. Cars racing have tremendous power and reach enormous speeds

All NASCAR competitors run on engines producing over 1000 horsepower. They can reach extreme speeds that TV viewers often don’t realize how big they are. Cars can go more than 200 miles per hour, which is a speed that few engines can meet.

For example, small airplanes fly at speeds between 125 and 400 miles per hour, which means these cars can easily fly off if they have wings. This is why NASCAR is a highly serious event with thousands of people working in maintenance and service.

3. Trucks carrying cars from one race to another rarely stop

It takes thousands of alloy toolboxes to carry all the equipment needed for maintaining NASCAR vehicles. The support system behind this event is enormous and much bigger than the average race fan can imagine. These huge trucks are filled with all kinds of equipment along with the race car and a backup race car.

When everything’s finished, the crews load up the trucks and head out for the stop and onto the next race. During this time, pro mechanics will develop entirely new race cars for the next race because every event is different and requires unique setups.

4. Drivers who won the Daytona 500 are instantly hall of farmers

Did you know that drivers and manufacturers who won the famous Daytona 500 went straight into the Hall of Fame? The season opener is the Daytona 500, located in Daytona Florida, which is also considered the biggest spectacle in motorsports and a very important start of the season for each driver.

5. First live TV broadcast happened on a NASCAR race

With all of the interest in NASCAR along with the famous 1979 Daytona 500, TV producers set up cameras and broadcasted the event live on television. This is the first time that a TV station in the US has broadcasted a sporting event live on TV.

This event was historic because of many other reasons. Aside from the broadcast, there was a crash on the final lap, and the viewers were able to witness a fistfight between Cale Yarborough and Bobby Allison. The “King”, Richard Petty won his sixth race on that day.

6. You don’t need a license to compete in NASCAR

It’s interesting that you don’t need a driver’s license to compete in NASCAR. You may be a pedestrian on the street and one of the top car drivers in the world. However, that doesn’t mean just anyone may enter the race.

Drivers undergo some of the most challenging tests to become eligible for racing in NASCAR. They need to pass drug tests, physical training, and a vetting process.

Conclusion

These few points show what kind of show NASCAR truly is. With its long-lasting history and having one of the largest fan bases in the world, it is a sport that is truly unique.

If you were not aware of some of them, you’re richer for information plus about it. If you don’t have a driver’s license but want to compete, don’t worry, as you may never need it.

Pros and Cons of Minibus Rental

There are plenty of events involving many participants. When there are a lot of people taking part, we might often face transportation issues. Of course, in cases when there are more than a dozen of members, passenger cars become inconvenient in use. This is where minibus hire services come in handy. Modern car rental companies provide a wide range of vehicles of all kinds nowadays. Why is a minibus hire popular? What are the pros and cons? In this article, you will find the answer.

What is a minibus?

The “minibus” word stands for a vehicle that carries passengers, such as a panel truck or van. Such kinds of transport are usually small class buses with a wagon-type body and the passenger capacity is typically around 10-15 people.

A car rental, such as self-drive 9-seater minibus hire and similar type rentals, became popular in the 1950s. Since then, this service has often been used for traveling and transportation.

The advantages

As well as the other rental, minibus hire has its advantages, which make it one of the best transportation methods for traveling.

The capacity

Unlike passenger cars, a minibus will allow you to transport a lot of passengers. One vehicle of such type can hold 10 or 15 people. The amount of luggage that you can take also increases because of the large capacity. For example, need to go on a day trip with your family, it could be a good idea to hire a minibus.

Your own route

A 9-seater car hire self-drive frees you from the need to inform the rental company about your movement. You are able to work out your own route, depending on your needs. The only thing you need to coordinate with the rental service is the pickup location and dates for pick-up and drop-off.

It’s cheaper

You will save money if you choose a 9-seater minibus hire instead of renting two or more passenger cars. People choose a minibus to pay less for the fuel and the rental expenses. If you pay together with other people going on the trip, then it’s even cheaper.

It’s safe

With minibus hire, you don’t need to worry about the safety of the particular members of your group. When the group is together in the same vehicle, it gets much easier to check everyone from time to time. Minibusses are also known for their safety due to their stability and high level of safety in an accident.

Occupies less parking space

Compared to the equivalent number of cars you could rent instead of the minibus, the last one occupies less parking space. As a result, the parking fee is reduced.

Don’t need to pay extra for maintenance

The minibus hire price does not include cleaning after the usage, any repairs, or a tire change. All you need to pay for is insurance that is included in the rental contract.

Huge variety of models to try

Among the models, provided by minibus rental companies, you can find these:

That’s not even half of the list! You are able to choose from a great variety of vehicles. It gives you an opportunity to drive the minibus of your dreams!

The disadvantages

At the same time, there are disadvantages that minibus hire has. It’s better to know about them before the car rental.

The age of a driver

There are certain age restrictions, connected with minibus rental. You must be at least 21 years old to rent a 9-seater. An additional medical revision is needed if the driver is over 70.

Specific documents are needed

You need to have a Passenger Carrying Vehicle (PCV) licence. There are two categories:

  • D1 category – you are allowed to drive minibusses with a number of passenger seats from 9 to 16.
  • D category – you are allowed to take buses and coaches with 16 passengers

In addition, your driving licence must be more than 2 years old.

Fewer options on specific dates

During the summer periods and huge holidays, a lot of people rent cars. You have to think about your minibus hire beforehand unless there will be no vehicles left for a specific date.

Limited mileage

A great number of minibusses have limited mileage. It can be inconvenient for those who want to travel long distances.
