WWE Global Ambassador Titus O’Neil Named Grand Marshal of Indy 500 Snake Pit Presented by Coors Light

INDIANAPOLIS (Wednesday, May 25, 2022) – WWE Global Ambassador Titus O’Neil will make his return to The Racing Capital of the World as grand marshal of the Indy 500 Snake Pit presented by Coors Light on Sunday, May 29 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

O’Neil, who took part in pre-race festivities last year, will address Race Day’s biggest party from the Snake Pit stage before the Green Flag waves for the start of the 106th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge.

“The Snake Pit is returning in style with an all-star lineup ready to celebrate one of Race Day’s loudest and most unique traditions,” IMS President J. Douglas Boles said. “The atmosphere will be electric, and Titus is the perfect person to help us amp up the energy in Turn 3 from start to finish.”

Said O’Neil: “Having the opportunity to return to this racing spectacle at full capacity as Snake Pit grand marshal is truly an honor. I fully expect to not only be overtaken by the revelry of this event but also contribute to the energy and excitement of the Snake Pit as race fans from all different backgrounds descend upon Indianapolis. It’s going to be electric!”

A WWE Hall of Famer, former WWE Tag Team Champion and the first-ever 24/7 Champion, O’Neil has flattened many a WWE Superstar since emerging in NXT in 2010, and he brings that same determination to his many commitments outside the ring.

O’Neil is an accomplished athlete, philanthropist and entertainer who has a heart for youth and the community. He was a USA Today Parade All American in high school football before playing college football at the University of Florida. His football career took him to stops professionally in the NFL and AFL before transitioning into professional wrestling.

Outside of the ring, his passion has helped thousands of kids and raised thousands for scholarships and millions for non-profit organizations such as the United Way, Susan G. Komen and the Special Olympics.

As part of the Indy 500 Snake Pit, Superstar DJ and producer Martin Garrix will headline a stellar lineup of global electronic music artists, including deadmau5, Galantis, Steve Aoki and Yellow Claw. Performances begin early in the morning in the infield adjacent to Turn 3 of the IMS oval.

General admission and VIP tickets for the Snake Pit are on sale for $75 and $200 at www.ims.com. VIP amenities will include access to a raised viewing platform, a private cash bar and private air-conditioned restrooms.

All Snake Pit ticketholders must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid Indy 500 general admission or reserved seat ticket. Ticket holders should be prepared to show proper identification to enter the concert.

Packages that include Race Day general admission tickets are available. A package featuring general admission to the Indianapolis 500 and Snake Pit is $120, while a race general admission and Snake Pit VIP package is $245. Prices increase on Race Day.

PAOLI, Pa. (May 19th, 2022) – Parts authority Turn5, Inc., announces October 1st, 2022, as the date for its Charity Auto   Show to be held at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, PA. The popular event brings the automotive community together to support Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware & Susquehanna Valley. The rain date has been set for October 2, 2022.

Turn5’s Charity Auto Show expects to draw over 8000 muscle-car, truck, and off-road enthusiasts. ● Cole Custer will honor the memory of a fallen service member and will carry a slice of Americana when he and his No. 41 Chicken Cock Whiskey Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) take to the 1.5-mile Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway oval for Sunday night’s Coca-Cola 600.

● As part of NASCAR’s annual “600 Miles of Remembrance” during the traditional Memorial Day weekend event, the name of U.S. Army Cpl. Joshua McKay Moore will be displayed on the windshield of Custer’s No. 41 Ford Mustang. Moore was born on Nov. 30, 1986, and passed on May 30, 2007, in Baghdad, Iraq. He was part of the Army’s, C Company, 1-18 infantry, 1st platoon, 2nd battalion, 1st ID, FOB Falcon. Moore was posthumously named a corporal for his efforts in the war. He and three others were killed when the Hummer they were in ran over an improvised explosive device during his second deployment to the region. He was 20 years of age. Friends, family and relatives say Moore was someone who “everyone liked and, if you were around Josh and did not know him, it wouldn’t take long for you to get to know him. He was the life of the party and someone who made everyone around him better and happier.”

● Also riding along with Custer for the first time this weekend will be Chicken Cock Whiskey. Established in 1856 in Paris, Kentucky, Chicken Cock rose to fame as the house whiskey at The Cotton Club, one of Prohibition’s most legendary speakeasies. Known as “The Famous Old Brand” and “The Whiskey in a Tin Can,” Chicken Cock was smuggled into the club in sealed tin cans, then ceremoniously opened table-side. After Prohibition, the brand enjoyed decades of resurgence before a distillery fire just after World War II put it out of business. In 2012, Matti Anttila, founder of Grain & Barrel Spirits, rediscovered the brand and set out to resurrect it to its Prohibition-era glory alongside master distiller Gregg Snyder. Since that time, the team has introduced flagship KY Straight Bourbon and KY Straight Rye Whiskey products made in partnership with Bardstown Bourbon Company as part of its collaborative distilling program, along with several other highly sought, limited-edition releases.

● Sunday night’s 600-mile race, the longest on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule, will be Custer’s 89th Cup Series start and his fourth on the 1.5-mile Charlotte oval. His first Charlotte oval start was his best, thus far – a 12th-place run in the 2020 Coca-Cola 600 – which he followed up with an 18th-place finish four nights later during his 2020 Rookie of the Year season. He finished 21st in last year’s Coca-Cola 600.

● In his five career NASCAR Xfinity Series appearances on the Charlotte oval, Custer has four top-10 finishes with a best of second in the May 2018 race, when he was runner-up to winner Brad Keselowski in a race that ended under caution.

● Custer finished 13th in his lone NASCAR Camping World Truck Series outing on the Charlotte oval, driving the No. 00 JR Motorsports entry in the May 2016 race.

● Custer arrives at Charlotte 27th in the driver standings after his 22nd-place finish in the most recent points-paying event two weekends ago at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City. He finished seventh in last Sunday’s non-points All-Star Open at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth.

What are your thoughts about how NASCAR embraces the military, especially our fallen heroes each Memorial Day weekend?

“It’s definitely really cool how we honor the fallen military members on our cars. NASCAR has always done a really good job saluting the military and everything they’ve done for our country to keep us safe. We wouldn’t be here without the military. Especially during these times, you really appreciate the people who risk their lives for us. I think it’s really cool that we do this and hopefully we can have a good run this weekend in honor of Corporal Moore and his family and friends.”

Do you do anything different to prepare for a race as long as the Coca-Cola 600?

“The 600 is definitely the longest race I’ve ever run. I think the biggest thing is staying hydrated and making sure you’re loose before the race and not sore. Just try and relax, especially in the first part of the race. At halfway, you just need to try and settle in and get some laps done. The thing about it is you can’t really relax too much because you have to fight for the stage points, and fight for track position as much as you can. You have to stay hydrated. I guess there’s the need for a snack in there somewhere, too, but it’s definitely the longest, most grueling race that I’ve run.”

You’ve had solid runs most every time you’ve raced at Charlotte in the Cup, Xfinity and Truck series. Why do you think you’ve excelled there?

“Charlotte has always been a good track for me. I’ve always run pretty good there. It’s definitely one of the most difficult mile-and-a-half tracks that we go to because it’s so edgy. It’s starting to get bumpy and you have to move around a little bit. It’s definitely a challenging mile-and-a-half to race on. It’s really line-sensitive. It’s a track where you have to have a really good, consistent line so you can kind of navigate the bumps in the corners. It’s one of those places that’s starting to get a little more worn out and it’s starting to get more character. It’s worked out for me and been good to me in the past. It’s just a matter of trying to figure out how you can work traffic and work your way to the front.”

16 Chevrolet-powered entries set for ‘Greatest Spectacle in Racing’

DETROIT (May 25, 2022) – Chevrolet is enjoying one of its best starts to an NTT INDYCAR SERIES season so far this year. What could make it better? Try another victory in the Indianapolis 500 and the sweet taste of winning at the Brickyard.

A total of 16 Chevrolet-powered entries – led by Ed Carpenter Racing’s Rinus Veekay on the front row – will follow the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 pace car driven by Sarah Fisher to the start line and take the green flag for Sunday’s race on NBC and virtually every major sports channel around the world. Already with four victories in six races, Team Chevy would like nothing better than to win the Indy 500 for the fourth time since 2012 and capture its 100th victory in the V6 era of INDYCAR racing.

“The NTT INDYCAR SERIES races at some of the best tracks and puts on some of the best events in all of motorsports,” said Rob Buckner, Chevrolet Program Manager for INDYCAR. “But there isn’t anything that compares to the Indianapolis 500. Two Team Chevy drivers – Team Penske’s Will Power and Arrow McLaren SP’s Juan Pablo Montoya – know what it’s like to kiss the yard of bricks and take the traditional winner’s drink of milk in Victory Lane. Montoya, driver of the No. 6 McLaren Chevrolet, is a two-time winner having claimed victory in 2000 and 2015. Power will try to win with his No. 12 Verizon Chevrolet and add to his triumph in 2018.

For the second year in a row, Veekay will be on the front row Sunday in his No. 21 Bitcoin Racing with Bitnile Chevrolet after setting the third-fastest time in qualifying. Teammate and team owner Ed Carpenter will start fourth.

We felt good in Monday’s practice running on full tanks and in traffic. That is all we concentrated on during the two hours, ‘How was the car in traffic?’ We came into last week’s practice runs as prepared as our team has ever been after the April two-day test. We learned a lot about the car then. And we continued to translate that info into this month’s runs. Qualifying was a little wild with weather changes and the wind moving around so much. Looking on Sunday’s weather, it could be pretty warm, which I like. Our car has performed well in the races here when we get hotter track temps. So we are ready for Sunday’s race.”

Chevrolet in the 2022 Indianapolis 500 Mile Race

Chevrolet has a storied history with Indianapolis Motor Speedway as an engine manufacturer, provider of the pace car, entrant and even drivers.

Chevrolet was co-founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet, the year of the inaugural 500-Mile Race. He competed in the ‘500’ four times, with a best finish of seventh in 1919. His brother, Arthur, competed in the 1911 and 1916 races and his other brother, Gaston, won in 1920 and finished 10th in 1919.

Louis Chevrolet was also the owner of the 1921-winning car driven by Tommy Milton.

LEXINGTON, N.C. (May 25, 2022) – Kaulig Racing and the Charlotte Knights have teamed up for the 2022 Coca-Cola 600, one of the most historic events in NASCAR history.

The Charlotte Knights, a Triple-A, Minor League Baseball team of the International League (MiLB) and affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, will be onboard Kaulig Racing’s No. 16 Camaro ZL1, driven by Noah Gragson, for the annual event on Memorial Day weekend.

LEBANON, Tenn. (May 25, 2022) – Several fan activities at Nashville Superspeedway’s June 24-26 NASCAR tripleheader weekend will benefit Speedway Motorsports’ children’s charitable foundation, track officials said today.

Speedway Children’s Charities (SCC), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, founded in 1982 by Speedway Motorsports chairman O. Bruton Smith to honor his late son Bruton Cameron Smith, has awarded more than $61 million in grants to U.S. nonprofit organizations that meet the direct needs of children across America no matter the obstacles they are facing.

Since its founding four decades ago, SCC has grown to more than seven chapters located in the communities where Speedway Motorsports own facilities and each are tasked with supporting non-profit organizations addressing the challenges locally. With the recent acquisition of Nashville Superspeedway (NSS), plans are in the works to establish a Nashville chapter of SCC that will allow NSS to expand its charitable outreach to worthy organizations serving communities across Middle Tennessee.

“Supporting nonprofit organizations that provide critical assistance to communities across the greater Nashville region is a cornerstone value for us as team and company. We are fortunate to have the assistance of Speedway Children’s Charities to help us achieve that goal in Middle Tennessee,” said Erik Moses, Nashville Superspeedway’s president and general manager. “We look forward to #NASHCAR fans enjoying all of our race weekend activities and know that NASCAR fans and Nashvillians share a genuine desire to support those in need, especially children.”

“We are so grateful for the generosity of race fans who participate in our fundraising events,” said Speedway Children’s Charities National Executive Director Lisa Starnes. “Net proceeds will return to the Nashville area in the form of grants to deserving nonprofits helping children in need.”

Planned SCC fundraising activities at Nashville include:

  • LAPS FOR CHARITY PRESENTED BY STATE WATER HEATERS: Fans can drive their personal vehicles for three laps around Nashville’s 1.3-mile D-shaped oval on Sunday, June 26 just hours before the track challenges NASCAR’s top stars in the Ally 400 NASCAR Cup Series race. Drivers will experience 14-degree banking in the turns, 9 degrees on the front straightaway and 6 degrees in the back straightaway. HOURS: 9-11 a.m.; PRICE: $60. Advance registration available HERE.
  • BEAR HOLLOW WOOD CARVERS: Incredibly skilled chainsaw artists create one-of-a-kind sculptures, both small and large. The unique creations will then be auctioned off throughout the weekend, with a portion of proceeds being donated to SCC.
  • SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCER PROMOTION: Several top social media influencers, including Justin Nunley (4.7 million TikTok followers), are using their extensive platforms to promote ticket sales for the Tennessee Lottery 250 NASCAR Xfinity Series race. A portion of that ticket sale revenue will be donated to SCC.

US RaceTronics/Change Racing Earn LB Cup Win and Two Podiums Despite Challenges

Monrovia, California (Wednesday, May 25, 2022) – New Orlean’s traditional heat, rain, and humidity were on full display during the second weekend of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America series at NOLA Motorsports Park in New Orleans. Tire issues and some bad luck in the pits kept the team from duplicating their impressive Laguna Seca debut, although the team did have two podium finishes and one class win by the end of the weekend.

“It was 91 but felt like at least 100,” said No. 33 car driver John Hennessy about the practice rounds. By race day morning the mercury had dropped a few degrees, but heavy rain showers, strong winds and potential lightning strikes forced a two-hour delay for Race 1. Once the rain subsided the race began with all cars running rain tires. Drivers were allotted two observation laps to scope out the driest path.

In the pro class, Patrick Kujala in No. 50 car began in No. 3 position on the grid and was leading the pack by the eighth lap. During a pit stop to change back to slicks, a gun malfunction robbed co-driver Edoardo Piscopo of a full minute. Nevertheless, he came up from behind and by lap 19 was back holding firm in third place.

“On the No. 50 car we struggled getting the right setup for the weekend,” says US Racetronics Team Owner Shane Seneviratne. “Without the perfect car, we didn’t have the pace to garner a win, but they did a good job getting on the podium.”

A drive through penalty cost No. 8 car driver Patrick Liddy what might have been another podium. As it was, he and co-driver Damon Ockey made fourth place. John Hennessy in Car No. 33 lost five positions on a lap 7 spinout, and struggled to regain them, having put in limited time driving his Lamborghini in the rain.

Some drivers switched from rain tires to slicks, risking the setback of a second pit stop in order to boost their lap times. This was not always a wise choice. “In hindsight, if we’d left on rain tires for entire race, we’d have gotten a better result,” says Seneviratne. “Normally teams are not set up for pit stops, and the ones that chose not to take the gamble benefited at the end. It turns out that the rain tires were capable of finishing the race.”

That was not an option for the No. 50 car, however, as severely worn rain tires were costing the car about 15 seconds in lap time. Despite treacherous conditions, the yellow flag stayed away until a spinout forced one in the last three laps of the race.

Sunday gave the teams an unexpected break from rain, but wind, heat and humidity were still piling on challenges. Two laps in, after a clean start, Patrick Liddy’s Car No. 8 was hit from behind, forcing a yellow flag and taking him out of the race.

Ofir Levy in Car No. 13 managed to pull ahead of the rest of the LB Cup drivers by lap 17 and hold his place, gaining his first class race win ever. Patrick Kujala pulled a surprise finish, edging past Giano Taurino and Bryan Ortiz on the last lap to gain his second podium of the weekend.

The Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America series resumes June 23-26 at Watkins Glen International.

This was my first-ever full stint race, and the hot and humid conditions definitely tested my mettle. Getting this first place finish is a culmination of all the hard work the USRT team, my teammate Jon Hirshberg and I have put in to making me one happy guy!”

Founded by Lamborghini Charlotte CEO and long time real estate developer, John E. Littlefield, Change Racing is the premier championship winning team. Claiming 18 titles in various classes; Change Racing has competed in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series since its inception in 2013.

Most recently claiming the 2021 Amateur World Championship in Misano, Italy. Change Racing also claimed all SIX 2020 North American Championships, including the Pro, Pro-Am, Am and LB Cup class championships as well as the Team and Owner championships.
