Bristol Dirt Track Qualifying Procedure (per NASCAR)

Qualifying Race Starting Lineup – Random draw will determine the qualifying race designation and starting position for the qualifying race. The draw will be in order of current owner points.

Qualifying Races – Four qualifying races held at 15 laps each with only green flag laps counted – no overtime rule. Free pass and wave around procedures will be in effect.

Points Earned During Qualifying Races – Drivers will accumulate points in the qualifying races based on finishing position and passing points. The points total of a driver’s passing points and race finishing position points determines the starting position for the feature event.

Passing Points = The difference between the assigned starting position and finishing position.
Go forward and accumulate passing points
Go backward or finish where you started = zero passing points
Qualifying Race Finishing Position Points = Points received for the driver’s finishing position.
Finish first and get 10 points, second place gets 9 points, and so on.

Tiebreaker: Decided by owner points

Kyle Larson, driver of the No. 5 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, will be available to members of the media at the Bristol Motor Speedway media center on Saturday, April 16, at 4:15 p.m. local time.

DIRT TRACKIN’: Last year in the dirt race at Bristol Motor Speedway, Kyle Larson was scheduled to start first but was forced to the back of the field due to an engine change in his No. 5 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. The Elk Grove, California, native motored his way up to fourth before being collected in a multi-car accident in turn two on lap 53. Larson lost several laps while the crew repaired the damage, ultimately finishing 29th in the inaugural NASCAR Cup Series dirt event at the Tennessee track.

THIS TIME LAST YEAR: After eight races in 2021, Larson’s deficit to the points leader was 99 markers. He was able to erase that gap in the remaining 18 regular season races to be crowned the Cup Series regular season champion. This year, Larson trails the point leader by 87 after eight events.

VOLUNTEER’ING: On Thursday at Volunteer Speedway in Tennessee, some of the top dirt Super Late Model drivers are scheduled to compete in the Kyle Larson Late Model Challenge. Hendrick Motorsports teammate William Byron will join Larson at the “World’s Fastest Dirt Track.”

MORE SEAT TIME: In early April, Larson competed in a Super Late Model at the Bristol Dirt Nationals. He finished fourth in the main event on April 1, but after winning his heat race on April 2, Larson was unable to take the green flag in the main event that evening due to a mechanical issue.

TRUCKIN’: Larson won the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race on the dirt track at Eldora Speedway in Ohio in 2016. The reigning Cup Series champion led 51 laps en route to a second-place finish in the inaugural Truck Series event at Eldora in 2013.

STOP AND GO: At 12.524 seconds, the No. 5 pit crew has the 11th-quickest average time for four-tire pit stops in 2022. The over-the-wall crew is comprised of fueler Brandon Harder, jackman Brandon Johnson, tire carrier R.J. Barnette and tire changers Donnie Tasser (front) and Calvin Teague (rear).

YOUR CAR NEEDS: This weekend at Bristol, Larson will drive the No. 5 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. BRISTOL DIRT REWIND: In last year’s inaugural NASCAR Cup Series dirt event at Bristol Motor Speedway, Chase Elliott came home with a top-10 result, scoring a 10th-place finish after starting the race from the 26th position.

EIGHT INTO ‘22: Through eight Cup Series races in 2022, Elliott has led 276 laps – the third-highest total in the series – with 185 of those circuits coming in last weekend’s race at Martinsville Speedway. He also earned his first pole position of the season at the Virginia short track. Elliott has scored two stage wins and five top-10 finishes, which is tied for the most in the series. His average finish of 11.3 tops the field.

OUTRIGHT LEADER: After two stage wins and a 10th-place finish at Martinsville last weekend, Elliott retook the outright lead of the Cup Series point standings by three points over Ryan Blaney. The two were previously tied following the race at Richmond Raceway. Including the tie, Elliott has been atop the standings for four consecutive weeks.

RUNNIN’ AT THE FRONT: Elliott has consistently shown speed through the first eight races of 2022, spending 885 laps running inside the top five, third most in the series behind Hendrick Motorsports teammate William Byron and Blaney. He’s also tied with Byron for the second most stage points earned (82).

KBB IS BACK: This weekend at Bristol, Kelley Blue Book will make its 2022 debut on the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. The Atlanta-based Cox Automotive Group company has two primary events this year and will also have its colors displayed at Watkins Glen International in August. The long-standing Hendrick Motorsports partner has one win with the No. 9 team coming at Charlotte Motor Speedway in 2020. Earlier this year, KBB unveiled a new look for its 2022 paint scheme. See all the angles of the No. 9 Kelley Blue Book Chevrolet here.

DIRT TRUCKIN’: Elliott is pulling double duty this weekend on the Bristol dirt, piloting the No. 7 HendrickCars.com Chevy Silverado in Saturday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event with NAPA AUTO PARTS to serve as an associate partner. Elliott has made 16 Truck Series starts over his career, scoring victories at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (2013), Martinsville Speedway (2017) and Charlotte Motor Speedway (2020). All totaled, the Dawsonville, Georgia, native has garnered three wins, 11 top-five finishes, 13 top-10 finishes and 412 laps led in Truck Series competition.

TICK TOCK TIMES TWO: Last Thursday night, William Byron climbed behind the wheel of the No. 7 HendrickCars.com Chevy Silverado for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway. Leading the final 84 laps of the 200-lap event, Byron captured his first win at the .526-mile track. His dominance didn’t stop there. On Saturday night, Byron ran second during stage one and stage two in the NASCAR Cup Series race before taking the lead off pit road for the start of the final stage. Byron paced the field for 212 laps before securing his second victory of the weekend and leaving Martinsville Speedway with two of the coveted grandfather clocks.

LAST FOUR: In the last four races, Byron has scored two wins – the first time he has scored multiple wins in a Cup season. He is also the first multi-time Cup Series winner this season. The Charlotte, North Carolina, native has three top-five finishes which ties a previous best for him in a four-race span in the Cup Series. With 445 laps led in this stretch, that already eclipses Byron’s season-best mark in that category. The 24-year-old driver also has an average finish of 4.25 – his best-ever in a four-race stretch.

TO THE POINT: Byron has captured the most stage points this year in the opening stage of races (55), is tied for the second-most stage points overall (82) and has the most playoff points as well (12). In fact, over the last six races, Byron has earned the most total points overall (262).

TWO-FOUR HISTORY: With Byron’s win at Martinsville, he has now added his name to the already hefty history the No. 24 has at the half-mile paperclip. The No. 24 now has 10 wins at Martinsville – nine with Jeff Gordon and one with Byron – tied for the third-most wins there by a car number with the No. 48. Byron’s win also brings the No. 24 closer to the total win mark set by a car number in the Cup Series – currently fifth with 97 wins behind the No. 3 in fourth with 100 and the No. 2 in third with 101 wins.

SLINGIN’ DIRT: This weekend’s event at Bristol Motor Speedway will mark the second consecutive year that the Cup Series will race on dirt. Last season, Byron started eighth for the dirt event and raced his way to a sixth-place result. In fact, Byron spent 239 laps running within the top 10 and 169 laps run inside the top five – both marks were the fourth most by any driver in the race. He does have one other start on dirt at the national level of NASCAR. In 2016, Byron competed in the Truck Series race at Eldora Speedway. After finishing fourth in his heat race, Byron went on to score a top-15 finish, crossing the finish line in 14th.

FUGLE, DIRT SPECIALIST: Crew chief Rudy Fugle was on the pit box to guide Byron to a sixth-place finish in last year’s inaugural dirt race at Bristol. However, what most don’t know is that Fugle has an extensive background in dirt racing. Growing up in Livonia, New York, Fugle got his start in the dirt racing world competing in a 600cc micro sprint and worked on a friend’s dirt modified at the local track level. Other than the one Cup Series race on dirt last year, Fugle has six Truck Series starts at Eldora Speedway collecting a track-best finish of fourth in 2015 with Erik Jones.

FIRST TIMER: This Thursday night, Byron is going to try his hand at a dirt Super Late Model, competing in teammate Kyle Larson’s Late Model Challenge at Volunteer Speedway. For the race, Byron will run a Valvoline-sponsored late model for Mike Nuchols Warrior Chassis. While this will be the first time he has raced a dirt late model in competition, Byron was able to get some laps behind the wheel of a dirt late model last week in a test session at Carolina Speedway in preparation.

LIBERTY U IS BACK: Returning for the third time in 2022, Byron will climb behind the wheel of his No. 24 Liberty University Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for the dirt race at Bristol. Featuring a white base with navy flames and red accents, the Liberty University No. 24 will be sure to stand out on track. Liberty University has a long history with Byron starting back in 2014 in the late model ranks. Liberty University has been Training Champions for Christ since it was founded in 1971. Located in the mountains of Central Virginia, Liberty University is a liberal arts institution with 17 colleges and schools that offers more than 600 degree programs from the certificate to the doctoral level, on campus and online. Working on an undergraduate degree in strategic communication, Byron is now in his junior year at Liberty University through its online program. 48 Alex Bowman
Age: 28 (April 25, 1993)
Hometown: Tucson, Arizona
Resides: Concord, North Carolina
Crew Chief: Greg Ives
Standings: 7th

No. 48 Ally Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

BOWMAN AT BRISTOL: Alex Bowman has 11 starts on the .533-mile venue when it is not covered in a layer of dirt. In those starts, he has tallied two top-five finishes and three top 10s.

DIRT STAINS: In the inaugural event on the Bristol Motor Speedway dirt, Bowman started the race seventh and made his way to a race-high second-place on lap 32 before trouble on a late stage one restart left him in 15th. He finished the second stage in 21st after suffering from mechanical issues shortly after the competition caution in that stage. He would ultimately finish the race in 22nd.

PLAYING IN THE DIRT: Bowman has continued to refine his dirt racing skillset in the early parts of the 2022 season for his team, Alex Bowman Racing (ABR). He made three starts in the World of Outlaws series in February. More notably, he qualified for the feature race in his first appearance in the series, an event where 10 drivers did not make the main event. As the year progresses, Bowman will more dirt races, including upcoming events in Bridgeport, New Jersey, and Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.

TO THE FRONT: Bowman is currently tied with six other drivers with four top-10 finishes in the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season. He is tied with Martin Truex Jr., Kurt Busch, Aric Almirola, Joey Logano, Austin Dillon, and teammate William Byron. Of those drivers, only Bowman and Byron have wins so far this season. Four drivers are tied for the most with five top-10 finishes apiece including Bowman’s teammate Chase Elliott.

RACK THEM UP: Bowman has garnered the third-most points in stage one of the 2022 season, notching 33 points. He trails teammates Byron (55) and Elliott (34). Across the last six races, Bowman has tallied the fifth-most points in those events, gaining 207 points.

BOX, BOX: The No. 48 Ally Racing team currently holds the 15th-best average four-tire pit stop in the 2022 Cup Series season, clocking in at 12.64 seconds. The five-man pit crew is made up of fueler Jacob Conley, jackman Eric Ludwig, tire carrier Allen Stallings and tire changers Scott Brzozowski (front) and Devin DelRicco (rea

SIGN OF FUTURE SUCCESS: Through eight races in 2022, Hendrick Motorsports has won four times. Hendrick Motorsports won four of the first eight races in 1995, 1996 and 1997 as well as five of the first eight races in 2007. In the previous instances of winning at least four of the first eight races, a Hendrick Motorsports driver has won the NASCAR Cup Series title.

TAKE ME TO THE LEADER: Hendrick Motorsports has led 833 laps this season – the most in the Cup Series. That total is more than double of the team with the second-most laps led (Team Penske at 405) and more than second and third combined (Team Penske and Joe Gibbs Racing at 752).

PLAYING THE PERCENTAGES: By leading 397 of the 403 laps in Saturday night’s race at Martinsville Speedway, Hendrick Motorsports posted a new organization-best mark for the largest percentage of laps led in a race. The 98.51% mark eclipsed that of the 95.5% laps led (382 of 400) last year at Dover Motor Speedway for the team.

APPROACHING 2,000: Hendrick Motorsports is nearing its 2,000th top-10 finish in points-paying Cup Series competition. With 1,999 results inside the top 10 since the team was founded in 1984, it is only one away from the milestone. The organization holds the record for the most top-10 finishes in Cup Series history – 600 more than anyone else.

AND 100,000: Since Hendrick Motorsports was founded in 1984, it has led a record 99,232.44 miles in points-paying Cup Series races. The team is less than 800 miles from hitting 100,000 led at NASCAR’s top level. Last season, Hendrick Motorsports led 5,662.77 miles. Through eight races in 2022, it has led 774.96 miles.

RACKING UP THE WINS: Since the start of the 2021 season, Hendrick Motorsports has 21 points-paying wins. That mark is the most among Cup Series teams in that span. During that period, all other teams combined have posted 23 victories. Hendrick Motorsports is also the only team to have each of its drivers win multiple times since the start of last year.

QUOTABLE /

Kyle Larson, driver of the No. 5 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on racing on dirt at Bristol earlier this year: “I think running the dirt late model at Bristol a few weeks ago just helps me get eyes on the track to see what’s different. It’s a temporary track and it’s never going to be exactly the same as it was the year before. Getting to run some laps to see how the dirt transitioned throughout the night was helpful and hopefully it pays off this weekend.”

Cliff Daniels, crew chief of the No. 5 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on challenges of preparing for Bristol dirt race: “Probably one of the hardest things is having Kyle Larson in your car knowing you have the highest expectation to live up to – which is a great thing. The other big thing in dirt racing that doesn’t get as much attention is what we have to do to make sure the car is durable and will last the whole race – like the right cooling to the proper systems in the car – like gear cooling and engine cooling. That’s step one. Step two, of course, is to have a fast car and to tune on it correctly during the race to be there at the end.”

Chase Elliott, driver of the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on returning to the Bristol dirt for the second year: “Last year, I think we got pretty fortunate to run where we did. We had a lot going on there at the end of the race and were kind of hanging on. This year, I think is just going to be a completely different ball game with this car. Being able to adapt quickly is going to be the key, because I think this year is going to be different than last. Whoever hits on that quickly and figures out what it’s going to take to be fast is likely going to be rewarded for it.”

Elliott on racing at night at Bristol: “I think it’s a great thing moving this event to night. I think it’s going to help with a lot of the issues we had, keeping some moisture in the track hopefully and then obviously keeping the dust down. I think everything we learned last year has been a great tool of how to go about it this season. It seems like we’re doing all the right things and hopefully it can be a good show. I think it has a lot of potential.”

William Byron, driver of the No. 24 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on his thoughts racing on dirt this weekend: “Even though we raced there last year, this weekend’s race is still a pretty big unknown with the Next Gen car. We ran well last year, but other than watching the videos from the test that NASCAR had a little while ago, it’s hard to know how this new car will race on dirt. I know NASCAR looked at making some changes to the car, but I’m not biased either way. We’ll all be in the same situation when we get there and it will be all about how you manage the heat races to set you up for the actual race on Sunday. My hope is that the dirt late model race on Thursday may help me get up to speed a little bit faster so we can start fine tuning during practice at Bristol on Friday.”

Rudy Fugle, crew chief of the No. 24 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on how the team will prepare to race on dirt this weekend: “I’m really excited to get back to Bristol. William (Byron) did a good job there last year, especially for not having much experience on dirt. I grew up around it, so we tried to lean on that a bit more last year. Now we’re going to try a blend of last year’s car and the Next Gen car. We have some notes from the NASCAR test that they did last week. The difference with dirt racing, though, is how fast the track conditions change. They change just about every lap. How much rain that comes through this week will play a factor and then how the track is prepped plus how they handle all 36 trucks being there before our race. Those are things that simulation can’t predict, you just have to go off of history and experience. It’s a little old school, which I like.”

Alex Bowman, driver of the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on how he is approaching the Bristol dirt with the Next Gen car: “There are a lot of new challenges with the Gen-seven car. The car is designed to look like a streetcar and has parts that are similar to the production car, so it makes it tough to take it on dirt. The guys at Hendrick Motorsports do a great job of putting together really fast cars and giving me what I need to be competitive every week. We don’t have any notes for the event, but I think some of the changes to even, like making it a night race, will help us put on a better show for the fans. Hopefully, we can get another win this year and take home another cool trophy.”

Greg Ives, crew chief of the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on racing at the Bristol dirt layout with the Next Gen car: “Last year, I feel like we had a great car. Alex (Bowman) was complimentary of the car. We had a mechanical issue that took us out of contention but feel we had a shot to win. Obviously, this year we have an entirely new car and new tire package, but the goal is still the same – we want to go to Bristol, have a solid race, and win at ‘The Last Great Colosseum.'”

Buddy Kofoid – No. 51 Mobil 1 Tundra TRD Pro Camping World Trucks Bristol Dirt Preview

Buddy Kofoid: Driver, No. 51 Mobil 1 Toyota

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Overview:
Event: Pinty’s Truck Race on Dirt, Race 6 of 23, 150 Laps –40/50/60; 75 Miles
Location: Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway (half-mile dirt oval)
Date/Broadcast: Apr. 16, 2022, at 8 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR 90

The Beat on Buddy the Dirt Driver::

Toyota Racing Development dirt standout Buddy Kofoid will make his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut behind the wheel of the No. 51 Tundra TRD Pro Saturday the Pinty’s Truck Race on Dirt at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway. Mobil 1, the world’s leading synthetic motor oil, a long-time partner at KBM who also sponsors Kofoid’s Keith Kunz Motorsports midget entry, will serve as the primary sponsor on his Toyota for the Truck Series second annual visit to the dirt covered half-mile oval.

Kofoid claimed the 2021 USAC Midget National championship on the strength of six victories in that series, which included two triumphs on his way to earning the USAC Indiana Midget Week title. The budding star also scored nine feature victories in the Lucas Oil POWRi National Midget Series, won the Trophy Cup Sprint Car Race at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif. and won the first two nights of the Wild Wing Shootout at Arizona Speedway in San Tan Valley.

The 20-year-old California driver is off to a strong start to the 2022 dirt season. Kofoid outdueled Kyle Larson to win his qualifying night feature and went on to finish fourth in Saturday night’s A Feature in the Chili Bowl Nationals at the Tulsa (Okla.) Expo Center. He scored two victories across the first three events of the Lucas Oil POWRi National Midget schedule, including Toyota’s 400th national dirt midget victory March 25 at I-44 Riverside Speedway in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After four events in the USAC Midget National championship standings, the reigning champion sits second in the point standings. This past Saturday, he won the Weldon Sterner Memorial 410 Sprint Car feature at Lincoln (Pa.) Speedway.

In addition to his time on dirt, Kofoid has been gaining experience on pavement running over 10 late model events in the last year highlighted by a third-place finish in the Pro Late Model division at the All-American 400 at Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tenn. last October. Kofoid returned to Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway two weeks ago, where he finished sixth in the Pro Late Model opener at the track’s 2022 opening night.

Kofoid follows the path of other TRD dirt drivers who made their Truck Series debut for KBM. Christopher Bell finished fifth in his series debut at Iowa Speedway in June of 2019 and Logan Seavey finished eighth at Eldora Speedway in July of 2018.

Mardy Lindley returns to KBM for his second season atop the pit box of the No. 51 team. In addition to this year’s win with Corey Heim at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the No. 51 team produced three victories in Lindley’s first season as a crew chief at KBM, two with Busch and one with Martin Truex Jr. Before arriving at KBM, Lindley guided his drivers to 32 wins and four ARCA Menards Series East championships since 2013, including back-to-back titles with Sam Mayer the last two seasons. Additionally, he earned the ARCA Menards Series Sioux Chief Showdown championship with Mayer in 2020. Behind the wheel, the second-generation driver won 11 races on the Pro Cup Series from 2000 to 2006 and was crowned the series champion in 2001. Lindley has called the shots for Martin Truex Jr.’s dominant victory last year at the Bristol dirt race when he led 105 of 150 laps en route to his first career Truck Series triumph. Lindley also scored a top-10 result with Brian Brown at Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway last July.

The No. 51 team currently sits fifth in the Owner’s Championship standings. After five events they are just 28 points behind the No. 99 team but are currently in the owner’s portion of the playoffs via Corey Heim’s win at Atlanta. After Heim got caught up in an accident and finished 32nd in the season opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, the No. 51 team has rebounded by finishing third or better in each of the last four events.

For the Bristol Dirt Race, Kofoid is slated to drive the same chassis, KBM-12, that Martin Truex Jr. led 105 laps en route to victory in the Inaugural Pinty’s Truck Race on Dirt at The Last Great Colosseum last year. In addition to Truex’s win on the Bristol dirt, KBM scored two victories when the Truck Series raced at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. Bubba Wallace won at Eldora in 2014 and Christopher Bell was victorious in 2015.

Buddy Kofoid, Driver Q&A:
Buddy Kofoid | Bristol Motor Speedway Dirt Preview
Have you reached out to any of the dirt drivers in NASCAR for advice going into this weekend?
“Definitely the main person that I’ve talked to is Christopher Bell. I’ve gotten to know him a little bit better these last couple of years and I’ve hung out with him before and raced alongside of him as a teammate in the Midgets. Got to know him pretty well and hopefully he can help me out a little bit this weekend. He didn’t really give me advice yet, there are also some other people I want to talk to. At least for him, I’m sure we’ll talk more at the track, but it was more reaching out to see if he would be open to being an extra guy on the radio for me during the race.”

Have you set any goals for Saturday?
“I’ve definitely thought about a few. First and foremost, like any driver I want to run up front and everyone wants to win of course, but I know how tough that will be. If we can have really good speed, whether it is in practice, the heat race, the race, I think that would be awesome. Get comfortable quick and learn the truck. I’d love to run up front or be in contention. I’d say those are some of my high priority goals and of course winning is one of them – that would be awesome.”

I feel like dirt can be a great equalizer for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Coming off a few dirt races, I am feeling confident. It is great to have Big Dog Energy on-board with us this weekend.”

Wright at Bristol Motor Speedway: This weekend marks Wright’s debut Bristol Motor Speedway dirt configuration appearance with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The 27-year-old has two previous starts at the Bristol Motor Speedway, in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on September 16, 2021, and in the ARCA Menards Series East on September 17, 2020.

On the Truck: Big Dog Energy, a family-owned natural gas company, has partnered with Kris Wright, driver of the Niece Motorsports No. 44 Chevrolet Silverado, for multiple NASCAR Camping World Truck Series events including Bristol Motor Speedway, Kansas Speedway on September 9, and Phoenix Raceway on November 4.

Last Time Out (Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 200 – Start: 14th / Finish: 30th): Wright and the No. 44 team were faced with adversity early on in Thursday night’s race at Martinsville after being involved in the first caution of the night on lap seven, but rallied back to post a 20th-place finish in Stage One. After making a scheduled four-tire stop at the stage break, Wright continued to battle his way through traffic to post a 25th-place result in Stage Two.

On lap 156, Wright was collected in a wreck coming out of turn two and had nowhere to go, resulting in heavy nose damage that put the No. 44 team three laps down. The team worked to make repairs under caution before being black flagged and brought down pit road under green, culminating in a 30th-place effort.

Lawless Alan – Pinty’s Truck Race on Dirt Race Advance

Race Advance – Pinty’s Truck Race on Dirt (150 Laps/75 Miles) | Bristol Motor Speedway
Saturday, April 16 | Bristol, Tenn. | 8:00 p.m. ET
TV: FS1 | Radio: Motor Racing Network (MRN), Sirius XM Ch. 90
Team: No. 45 AUTOParkit™ Chevrolet Silverado
Driver: Lawless Alan (Los Angeles, Calif.) | Crew Chief: Darren Fraley
Follow the Team: @NieceMotorsport; @lawlessalan25

Alan on making his first career start on dirt: “I’m looking forward to running Bristol Dirt with Niece Motorsports and AUTOParkit in what will be my first career race on dirt. If it’s anything like iRacing, it’s going to be a blast. There’s going to be carnage, for sure, but hopefully we make our way through it and have ourselves a good day on the dirt.”

Alan at Bristol Motor Speedway: Alan makes his second-career start at Bristol Motor Speedway Saturday night and his first on the dirt-covered, half-mile oval. Alan made his Bristol debut last September with Niece Motorsports, recording an 18th-place finish after starting 25th.

On the Truck: Alan and the No. 45 Chevrolet Silverado will run the AUTOParkit™ scheme for Saturday night’s Pinty’s Truck Race on Dirt.

Last time out (Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 200 – Start: 15th / Finish: 20th): Alan and the No. 45 team held steady in the top-20 in the opening laps at Martinsville Thursday night before a strategy call to stay out during the caution on lap 38 positioned them in the top-10 heading into the final laps of Stage One. Alan fell one spot short of earning stage points, settling for 11th in the opening stage.

With 20 laps left to go in Stage Two, Alan was sent for a spin in turn two to bring out the caution but he was able to gather it up and stay on the lead lap. Restarting at the back with only a handful of laps left in Stage Two, Alan clawed his way back to finish 29th in the second stage. The No. 45 team opted to stay out at the stage break and restarted the final stage in eighth, but differing strategies on the track shuffled Alan back outside the top-15 before settling for a 20th-place finish – good enough to earn his second-consecutive and third overall Sunoco Rookie of the Race honor.

Alan goes into the sixth race of the season as the Sunoco Rookie of the Year points leader.

Carson Hocevar – Pinty’s Truck Race on Dirt Race Advance

Race Advance – Pinty’s Truck Race on Dirt (150 Laps/75 Miles) | Bristol Motor Speedway
Saturday, April 16 | Bristol, Tenn. | 8:00 p.m. ET
TV: FS1 | Radio: Motor Racing Network (MRN), Sirius XM Ch. 90
Team: No. 42 Premier Security Solutions Chevrolet Silverado
Driver: Carson Hocevar (Portage, Mich.) | Crew Chief: Phil Gould
Follow the Team: @NieceMotorsport; @CarsonHocevar

Hocevar on the first dirt race on the 2022 schedule: “Dirt racing has a lot of unknowns – anybody can be good on the right day, especially on the dirt at Bristol Motor Speedway. There are a lot of issues that you can run into that are specific to Bristol, such as the overheating issue we experienced last year. Our No. 42 Premier Security Solutions team ran really well at Knoxville last season and I’ve found success of my own in past dirt races. Hopefully our bad luck on the dirt is behind us and we can have a solid weekend fighting for that win that is out there for us.”

Hocevar at Bristol Motor Speedway: Hocevar makes his fourth overall start at Bristol Motor Speedway and second-career start on the dirt Saturday night. He produced a 21st-place finish in last season’s Bristol Dirt event after starting 11th.

In two previous starts on the asphalt, Hocevar ran to a 17th-place finish in 2020 before securing a top-10 finish with a sixth-place showing in his rookie year a season ago. Hocevar led six laps in the Bristol night race last September and held an average running position of ninth on the night.

On the Truck: Hocevar and the No. 42 Chevrolet Silverado will run the Premier Security Solutions paint scheme for Saturday night’s Pinty’s Truck Race on Dirt.

Last time out (Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 200 – Start: 9th / Finish: 17th): Hocevar kept his No. 42 Chevrolet in the top-10 for a majority of the first stage before opting to pit under caution on lap 39 before the stage break, resulting in 14th-place finish in Stage One. After restarting fourth to begin Stage Two, Hocevar made his way into the bottom lane before making the pass to move into third by lap 62. Following a caution on lap 79, he restarted in second before settling for third in Stage Two to earn eight stage points.

Hocevar began to fight a brake issue towards the end of Stage Two and overshot his pit box during the team’s four-tire stop at the stage break. The team worked to remedy the issue during the final stage but it continued to persist, resulting in a 17th-place finish.

Cosmo, Cagnazzi Team with Cameron for SRO GT4 SprintX at Sonoma

SONOMA, CA (13 April 2022) – Guy Cosmo will kick off his 2022 SRO campaign this weekend as he joins Chris Cagnazzi in a Mercedes-AMG fielded by Steve Cameron. The program is slated to compete in selected SRO GT4 America SprintX Series races, beginning with this weekend’s season-opener at Sonoma Raceway.

Cosmo and Cagnazzi will pilot the No. 39 Presido Mercedes-AMG GT4 in a pair of one-hour races on the 2.52-mile circuit in the heart of California wine country. They will compete in the Pro-Am category, which has a pit window for the driver change between 25 and 35 minutes.

“Chris and I raced together in his Mercedes GT4 last season and we have joined Steve Cameron Racing for this year,” Cosmo said, “I’ve known Steve for a long time – back from when he was running the Lynx Racing Toyota Atlantic program and then we first worked together when he led the Finlay Motorsports Daytona Prototype team. He’s one of the best in the business.”

It will be a home race for Stephen Cameron Racing, which is based at Sonoma Raceway as the team looks to launch a big start to the 2022 season, having claimed the 2019 GT4 SprintX championship.

“We expect the competition to be very strong,” Cosmo said. “Last year, we had between 30-40 cars at each event, and it’s been extremely competitive.”

Cosmo is taking an assertive approach to the season opener.

“Our goal for the weekend is to get on the podium, if not win,” said the New York native who now resides in Jupiter, Florida. “It’s a very competitive field, though. This is the first SprintX race of the season, so we don’t really know what kind of tricks everyone has up their sleeves yet.”

While the pair originally planned to contest the full seven-race championship, they will miss at least two races due to family and business commitments.

“We’re going to be together for the entire year,” said Cosmo, who is beginning his 20th season of major sports car competition. “We just might wind up missing two or three races, but some of the conflicts are still to be determined.”

Cagnazzi also races the same car in the GT America series, capturing the pole before being eliminated by an incident during the opening weekend at St. Petersburg. He will return to that series for the Nashville round, which is GT America only.

Last year, Cagnazzi won one race with six podiums and two fastest race laps in GT America powered by AWS. He also ran 10 races with Cosmo in GT4 America SprintX. Cagnazzi ran six seasons in Ferrari Challenge, debuting in 2014. He achieved 25 podium finishes and four fastest laps, taking third in Coppa Shell in 2016. He finished second in the 2019 Blancpain GT World Challenge America in a Ferrari 488 GT3 for One11 Competition, winning a pole and scoring five podiums in six races.

The weekend opens with a pair of practice sessions on Friday, at 12:10 and 5:10 p.m. (all times PT). Qualifying begins on Saturday at 10:50 a.m., with 15-minute sessions for both drivers. Race 1 will be Saturday at 4:55 p.m., with Race 2 on Sunday at 11:25 a.m.

Irish Mike’s Flynn Enjoys First Taste of Street Racing at Long Beach

LONG BEACH, CA (13 April 2022) – Irish Mike’s Racing made its street racing debut with a pair of IMSA Porsche Carrera Cup North America presented by Visit Cayman Islands races in the historic Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.

Conor Flynn got his first taste of temporary-course competition, finishing 12th and 10th in the Pro class driving the No. 95 FlynnCo Cars / Chillout Systems Porsche 992.

Teammate Craig Conway was scheduled to pilot the No. 97 Diamond Suzuki Porsche in the Porsche Pro-Am division, but travel cancellations forced the Floridian to miss the event.

“It was a pretty incredible weekend, being at Long Beach,” Flynn said. “We made huge steps forward with the car, with the development and learning it for the team. Now we’re super excited heading toward our next race at Laguna Seca in three weeks.”

Running near the back of the pack in the opening segments of qualifying, Flynn dramatically improved on his final two laps to clock in 15th in Pro and 24th overall in the 33-car field.

The opening race demonstrated the affects of tight competition on the streets, both starting and finishing under caution with a long yellow-flag stretch in between. Flynn managed to gain nine positions during the limited green-flag racing, taking 15th overall and 12th in Pro competition.

Sunday’s finale also had two lengthy cautions. An early incident for three-wide contact put the field behind the pace car for nearly half of the 40 minutes. Flynn was 16th at the restart, and moved up to 14th overall and 10th in class when a caution for a stopped car came out with 8:45 remaining. The green flag waved with 15 seconds remaining for a final lap of race, but Flynn was unable to improve his position.

“It was a ton of fun,” Flynn said of the experience. “I’ve loved watching them – especially St. Petersburg – so to be able to race the street course at Long Beach was a great opportunity. Hopefully, Porsche will do more street courses in the future.

“I had nothing too crazy, but every turn was kind of a close call,” Flynn added. “There was a ton of crashes, so I had to be cautious to avoid them and keep the car in one piece for the next race at Laguna Seca.

Next up for Irish Mike’s Racing will be Round 3 of the 2022 championship at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on April 29-May 1. The team will test at the circuit this week, and the team’s transporter will remain in California through the race weekend.
