CHEVROLET AT INDIANAPOLIS

When: Friday, Sept. 3-Sunday, Sept. 5
Where: Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis, Brownsburg, Indiana

Team Chevy seeks to close out regular season with a bang
Chevrolet drivers in six categories aim to add to U.S. Nationals success

DETROIT (Sept. 2, 2021) – To many competitors and spectators alike, the U.S. Nationals is not only the final race before National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) playoffs.

Count four-time Pro Stock champion and current points leader Greg Anderson and 16-time Funny Car champion John Force, who has five victories in “The Big Go” at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis, among the lot. The prestige and sense of accomplishment from standing in Victory Circle for the U.S. Nationals last long after the season’s final race.

“I can honestly say that when you drive through the gate in the morning it’s a different feeling,” said Anderson, who has held a U.S. Nationals Wally six times. “It’s a special place and there’s way more to it. It’s more important than all the other races. Some people don’t buy into that but I do, and I think that’s why I’ve had success there.”

Added Force: “You want to win Indy; that’s what it’s all about.”

Chevrolet competitors in professional classes of Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock will be joined by drivers of the Chevrolet COPO Camaro in the Constant Aviation Factory Stock Showdown, Super Stock and Stock Eliminator this weekend.

Countdown to the Championship seedings are on the line for Chevrolet drivers.

Brittany Force will aim to record her sixth consecutive Top Fuel No. 1 qualifier and her second victory of the season in the Monster Energy/Flav-R-Pac Chevrolet dragster. Force, who is second in the standings, would reach 200 career round wins with a victory (196-167 elimination round record). Tony Schumacher in 2005 is the last Top Fuel racer to earn six top qualifier honors in a row.

“We are finally heading into the U.S. Nationals and the final race before the NHRA Countdown begins,” said Force, who claimed the No. 1 qualifier and track elapsed time record of 3.645 seconds in 2019. “This Monster Energy/ Flav-R-Pac team is second in points and in a great spot. Our goal going into the Countdown was a top three position and we hit our expectation.”

Teammate and team owner John Force, driving the PEAK/BlueDEF Platinum Camaro SS, is only 16 points out of first place in the Funny Car standings. He would reach 2,000 Funny Car career elimination rounds (a first in NHRA’s 70-year history) if he advances to the semifinals. His record stands at 1,376-621.
Robert Hight, a three-time winner of the event, is sixth in the Funny Car standings in the Automobile Club of Southern California Camaro SS. Hight and Force remained at Brainerd International to test last week.

“Honestly, I think we found some consistency,” Hight said. “As far as confidence leaving Brainerd, all of our teams were pretty stoked. You don’t want to look back on a career and say I never won Indy. I’ve been fortunate to win it a few times.”

Competition in Pro Stock is equally as tight, with five different drivers of the Chevrolet Camaro SS having won at least once through 10 races. KB Racing’s Anderson, driver of the HendrickCars.com Camaro SS, is the points leader as he seeks to tie Warren Johnson’s class record of 97 wins.

Reigning and four-time Pro Stock champion Erica Enders, driver of the Melling Performance/Elite Motorsports Camaro SS, won the Pro Stock race at the 2020 U.S. Nationals.

Aaron Stanfield, driver of the Janac Brothers Camaro SS, has a field-high three wins and is second in the standings in his first full season in the class. His father, Greg, won the Pro Stock title at the U.S. Nationals in 2010.

The younger Stanfield, who drove the Janac Brothers COPO Camaro to victory in the 2020 Constant Aviation Factory Stock Showdown event at the U.S. Nationals on the way to the series championship, returns to the competition this weekend. A COPO Camaro driver has won four of the five Factory Stock Showdown races this season.

FOX will telecast eliminations live at 1 p.m. ET Sunday, Sept. 5.

CHEVROLET FROM THE COCKPIT

TOP FUEL:

BRITTANY FORCE, JOHN FORCE RACING, FLAV-R-PAC CHEVROLET DRAGSTER (seven-time No. 1 qualifier in 12 races; winner at Topeka; track ET record-holder; second in points): “The Indianapolis U.S. Nationals, The Big Go, is our biggest race of the season. It’s a prestigious race and one I’m still looking to win. Our plan is to take it all home and win at one of the most nostalgic tracks on our circuit.”

FUNNY CAR:
JOHN FORCE, JOHN FORCE RACING, PEAK ANTIFREEZE AND COOLANT CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (three-time winner this season; five-time winner in U.S. Nationals; fourth in points): “You want to win Indy; that’s what it’s all about.”

ROBERT HIGHT, JOHN FORCE RACING, AUTO CLUB OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (two-time winner and two-time runner-up; three-time winner in U.S. Nationals; sixth in points): ““You don’t want to look back a career and say you never won Indy. I’ve been fortunate enough to say I’ve won it a couple times and I’m looking forward to winning it a couple more. There are full fields at this event. That Friday night run is going to be important; you can’t go and throw-down and if it doesn’t work expect you’ll get in the show on Saturday like a lot have done the rest of this season. We’re going to go out, make our run, get in the show and use Saturday to try and get as much data and build consistency for Sunday.”

PRO STOCK:

GREG ANDERSON, KB RACING, HENDRICKCARS.COM CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (two-time winner; No. 1 qualifier in eight of 10 races; six-time winner in U.S. Nationals; points leader): “This is the one I always look to. There’s more points involved, there’s more money involved, so I guess I like that extra pressure and that extra meaning to it. To me, there’s no place like that place for Victory Circle. All those wins I’ve had there have been absolutely some of the most special I’ve had. I’ve had a lot of wins there, but it’s been too long since the last one.”

AARON STANFIELD, ELITE MOTORSPORTS, JANAC BROTHERS CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (three-time winner this season; second in points; first Pro Stock appearance at track): “We’ve really run good the past several races. I’m very grateful for the opportunities and grateful for the success we’ve had. I’m in the best equipment I can have and it’s up to me to show up and do my job. From an engine building standpoint, it’s definitely not just another race. Things get a lot busier this time of year getting ready for the Big Go. To me, this is the Holy Grail of drag racing. This is the one you’ve got to win.”

DALLAS GLENN, KB RACING, RAD TORQUE SYSTEMS CAMARO SS (first-year full-time driver; two-time winner): “I’ve dreamt my whole life about racing at the U.S. Nationals and getting to do it in my rookie year of Pro Stock is really cool. Our RAD Torque/KB Racing Chevrolet Camaro has already had such a crazy year so far and I don’t see why we can’t keep that trend going to finish out the season.”

KYLE KORETSKY, KB RACING, LUCAS OIL CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (first-year full-time driver; runner-up at Topeka; first Pro Stock appearance at track): “I’m hungry for my first win. It’s what everyone comes out here to do. I’m hungry to get that first one for my family. A Koretsky winning it is incredibly huge for me and it’s been my main goal from when I started. I’m confident in my driving, I’m confident in the team. There’s not reason why we can’t win. I feel like we have a winning car every weekend. As long as I do my job, I’ve got a shot to win. Runner-up is nice and I’m grateful, but if you’re not first you’re last.”

TROY COUGHLIN JR., ELITE MOTORSPORTS, JEGS MAIL ORDER CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (runner-up in season opener; transferred to final quad at Charlotte; semifinalist at Sonoma; first Pro Stock appearance at track): “This is the final race before the playoffs so we’re looking to continue the momentum we’ve gained and make a great run at the championship. If I can get off the pedal when I’m supposed to then I know we can contend because Mark Ingersoll (crew chief), Kelly Murphy, Steven Hurley, Eric Luzinski, and Kyle Bates always give me a great race car. They are so efficient and professional, it’s exciting to be around them.”

THORNDYKE RETURNS TO ACTION AT CTMP

September 2, 2021. David Thorndyke and the #67 Thorsons EVT Chevrolet team haven’t been able to compete on the famed road course at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) for two years. That will change this weekend when the team races both Saturday and Sunday in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series.

While Thorndyke and the team are eager to see what they can do there are also a few unknowns facing them. “I haven’t been on the track since a lot of the resurfacing was done” explained Thorndyke. “Some of the cracks or bumps in the track I used for marks will likely be gone, could be interesting” he added.

Thorndyke will have plenty of on track time in the #67 Thorsons EVT Camaro with two races on consecutive days this weekend. “Normally we do the one race Sunday, but now we’ve got the sprint race Saturday too. The team is going to be busy” stated Thorndyke.

This weekend will mark starts 20 and 21 in NASCAR at CTMP for Thorndyke in the #67 Thorsons EVT Chevy at CTMP. His best finish coming in 2014 with an 11th place result. “We’re always looking to better ourselves,” said the driver. “Last time out we had some issues with the wrong ratios in the transmission. We’ve got that corrected and we’ve also acquired a new hauler for our team. It will help with logistics on the busy weekend” he stated.

Spencer Davis Motorsports returns to Truck Series competition at Darlington

DARLINGTON, S.C.: For the first time since June, Spencer Davis Motorsports (SDM) will return to NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) competition in Sunday afternoon’s In It To Win It 200 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.

Dawsonville, Ga. native Spencer Davis is set to make his sixth NCWTS start of the 2021 season and compete in his first race since the Truck Series return at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway.

Over the past nine weeks, the Mooresville, N.C.-based team has methodically been working to improve their program with the intent to compete for top-20 finishes for the remainder of their 2021 Truck Series schedule.

“Our first two races of the season were great and we thought we were heading in the right direction, but the next three races we were missing something a little bit, so we decided to take some time and regroup,” offered Davis.

“The last two months or so we’ve been diligent in working on the areas we feel like we needed to improve and I feel like we’re coming back to Darlington with a refreshed and recharged attitude and we can look ahead to the race this weekend with a positive outlook.”

Davis, 22, will make his second NCWTS start at the track Too Tough To Tame in Sunday’s In It To Win It 200 and while he was one of the 19-trucks involved in a Lap 119 restart in the spring, the two-time ARCA Menards Series East winner was extremely thankful for the track time before the incident.

“I definitely learned a lot about Darlington before getting swept into the crash,” added Davis. “We were making steady progress throughout the race. It definitely was a challenge to come to a tough track like Darlington without any laps and go straight into race mode.

“We were making strides though and I was happy about that. We will be starting deep in the field on Sunday afternoon, so our goal is just to be progressive and make positive adjustments with our No. 11 INOX Lubricants Toyota Tundra and hope we can find ourselves on the cusp of a top-20 finish at the end of the race.”

In February, SDM announced that INOX Supreme Lubricants will serve as the team’s primary partner this season.

INOX product range was first released in 1989 with the Original INOX MX3 Lubricant. The original MX3 product was in development stages for two years prior to release with testing and focus on creating the right product for the market.

The INOX product range continues to grow with 12 products on the market, each with their own many specialized qualities used in all different industries. All their products are tested and trialed before hitting the market to ensure the best of quality is maintained in the INOX name. INOX products are available at all major industrial, electrical, automotive, hardware, bearing and mining, marine, fishing and tackle outlets, plus many more locations.

A wholly owned Australian company Candan Industries is now exporting to over 25 countries including United States of America, Canada, France, South Africa, New Zealand, Indonesia and Malaysia.

“Excited to have a long-time friendship turn into a season-long partnership with INOX Supreme Lubricants,” said Davis. “I can’t thank Angel and James at INOX enough for their continued support and partnership with our small team.

“We use their products day to day on our race team and in our machines at our business. A quality product and amazing people helped bring this all together.”

Based on metrics set by NASCAR without practice or qualifying, Davis will lineup 36th for the 147-lap race.

Melvin “Woody” Burns who started the year with SDM as car chief has been promoted to crew chief for the NASCAR Next alumnus for the remainder of the 2021 NCWTS season.

Entering Darlington, Davis, 22, has 28 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts to his credit with a career-best finish of seventh at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in Feb. 2018, with additional top-10s at Texas Motor Speedway (June 2018) and Kentucky Speedway (July 2019).

Following Darlington, Spencer Davis Motorsports plans to compete at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway in the Victoria’s Voice Foundation 200 presented by Westgate Resorts on Fri. Sept. 24. 2021.

The In It To Win It 200 (147 laps | 200.1 miles) is the 17th of 22 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races on the 2021 schedule. The field will take the green flag on Sun., Sept. 5, 2021, shortly after 1:30 p.m. ET with live coverage on FOX Sports 1 (FS1), the Motor Racing Network (Radio) and SiriusXM Satellite Radio NASCAR Channel 90.

The NASCAR Foundation and Kaulig Giving Partner for Fifth Annual Speedy Bear Brigade on National Teddy Bear Day

“Speedy Bears” will be delivered to children in hospitals nationwide on September 9th

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (September 2, 2021) – The NASCAR Foundation and Kaulig Giving are joining together for the Foundation’s fifth annual “Speedy Bear Brigade” scheduled to take place in NASCAR race markets across the country on Thursday, September 9th, in celebration of National Teddy Bear Day.

The initiative has grown from 14 participating locations in its first year to more than 50 hospital locations coast-to-coast in 2021, surpassing a total of 5,700 Speedy Bears delivered to children who require a comforting teddy bear to ease the stress of their hospital stay.

“Our Speedy Bear Brigade has become an important date on The NASCAR Foundation’s calendar each year,” said Nichole Krieger, The NASCAR Foundation executive director. “We are thrilled to have our friends from Kaulig Giving join us to bring smiles to so many children when they receive their new Speedy Bear.”

Joining Kaulig Giving and the Foundation will be Kaulig Racing team owner Matt Kaulig and NASCAR Xfinity Series drivers AJ Allmendinger, Jeb Burton, and Justin Haley for special presentations at select locations.

“We’re honored to team up with The NASCAR Foundation to deliver cheer, positivity, and comfort to children in hospitals across the country with the Speedy Bear Brigade program,” said Matt Kaulig, team owner of Kaulig Racing and founder of Kaulig Giving. “Our partnership with The NASCAR Foundation is a natural fit – and very special to us as we continue to grow our relationship on and off the track. All of us share the incredible goal of impacting the communities we love by helping children in need live happier, healthier lives.”

NASCAR fans are encouraged to join the Speedy Bear Brigade by making a $25 donation to The NASCAR Foundation to sponsor a Speedy Bear and send a get-well message to a child in the hospital. As an additional incentive, Kaulig Giving will match all contributions made at NASCARfoundation.org up to $25,000.

The NASCAR Foundation is celebrating its 15th Anniversary in 2021. Since it was established in 2006, The NASCAR Foundation has donated nearly $40 million and helped over 1.4 million children in need. Proceeds from the Speedy Bear Brigade will continue these efforts, with all proceeds benefiting the Foundation’s initiatives aimed at improving the health and wellness of children in race markets across the country through its Speediatrics Children’s Fund.

One night later the team will make its way to the Petaluma Speedway for the annual USAC/CRA race on the track located just north of the Bay Area.

The Saturday and Sunday portion of the trip will see the teammates competing in the “13th Annual Louis Vermeil Classic.” This weekend will mark the first year the race has been held anywhere but the huge ½ mile Calistoga Speedway. Instead at Chico, the Flowdynamics duo will be making a rare appearance on a ¼ mile banked clay oval track. Both Williams and McCarthy will be looking to add one of the coveted “Louie” sculpted trophies to the mantelpiece in their houses from the Chico races. The following night at Petaluma, they will return to a more familiar 3/8 of a mile dirt oval. The series, which is in its 17th year of operation, will be making it’s only visit to each of the tracks in 2021.

Heading into the three days of racing, McCarthy is 11th in the season long championship standings. However, he is only 48-points out of seventh. Before the last race at Perris Auto Speedway on August 21st, the 2017 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year had reeled off three straight top 10 finishes. In addition, he won his first ever 410 sprint car main event at an open show at the Barona Speedway on August 7th. Unfortunately, a crash early in the Perris main event knocked the Riverside, California resident out of the race with a 20th place finish.

Williams, who resides in Yorba Linda, California, is only two spots and 39-points behind his Flowdynamics teammate. The 2013 Perris Auto Speedway Young Guns champion and 2014 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year has raced seven USAC/CRA races in this, his comeback season. In those seven races he has placed in the top 10 four times. The last time out at Perris in the “California Racer’s Hall of Fame Night,” he came home ninth in the 30-lap main event.

Fans can take in all three nights of this week’s action in person at both tracks.  Silver Dollar Speedway is located on the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds at 2357 Fair Street, in Chico, California (95928).  The track website is http://www.silverdollarspeedway.com/ and the phone number is (530) 350-7275.  Petaluma Speedway is situated on the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds and Event Center in Petaluma.  The address is 100 Fairgrounds Drive, Petaluma, California 94952.  The track website is https://www.petaluma-speedway.com/ and the office phone number is (707) 763-RACE.

Spectator gates will open at 4:00 p.m. with racing at 6:30 in Chico.  At Petaluma, spectator gates will open at 4:00 p.m. with racing at 6:00.

For fans who are unable to make the races in person, they can catch all the action live on Flo Racing.  Fans can sign up for the Flo PPV service at https://www.floracing.com/.

Both drivers will have shirts available in the pit area all three nights this weekend.

After this weekend’s races in Nor Cal, the Flowdynamics duo will be off until a return to Perris Auto Speedway on September 25th

How to Know When To Replace Your Car Tires

Of all your vehicle components, your car tires deserve accolades for the amount of abuse that they take. They are, after all, the only part of your vehicle that touches the road, and constantly too. Tires are the most commonly replaced car part, with approximately 200 million passenger tire replacements being bought annually in the US alone, according to Canada Custom Autoworks, a Calgary tire repair shop. Despite this, many people still don’t know what to look for in a damaged tire or when their tires need to be replaced, leading to excessive maintenance costs and, even worse, a multitude of road accidents. If you think your tires need to be replaced but may be a little unsure, here are a few things you can look out for.

Cracking

The weather can play havoc on your tires since they are regularly exposed to heat, cold, and water, and these can be extreme. Although designed to be durable, your tires are made of rubber and will start showing signs of weathering. Regular checks are imperative; one sign to look out for is cracking between your sidewall and tread blocks. These fine cracks will eventually expose the inner material of your tires and create even greater damage, so they should be replaced as soon as these cracks are discovered.

Depth of Tread

Your tire tread affects your traction and is incredibly important, especially in wet conditions. Hydroplaning occurs when your tire tread is too low, and your tire is unable to divert water from the road surface away from the underneath of your tire, resulting in your car losing control. Any tire tread below 0.32 inches or 0.16 cm is unsafe and illegal in most countries. An easy way to check your tread is to see if the tread bar on your tire is flush with the tread. Other methods of checking include inserting a penny in the center of the tread at the thickest part of the tire, with Lincoln facing you. If you see the very top of Lincoln’s head, your tire needs immediate replacement.

Bulges

Although it was unavoidable, hitting that nasty pothole in the road was more painful for your car than it was for you. Hitting potholes and curbs are cited as the main reasons behind bulges in your tires, although these are uncommonly also caused by manufacturer faults. An air pocket is created as the air gets between the inner liner of your tire and the outer material layer and can cause serious damage and injury if not detected and treated immediately. It is vital that you check your vehicle after every impact, regardless of how small, and change that tire as soon as possible.

Age

How many years will my tires last? This is an extremely common question for which there is no definitive answer. Your tires are designed to last for a certain amount of mileage. This is, however, dependent on many factors, such as regular maintenance, tire pressure checks, wheel balancing, and alignment and rotation. It is unlikely that most tires will reach the manufacturer’s replacement age without ever being changed. Should this happen, there is a rule of thumb regarding the age of your tires that can be used as a guide, and this should be followed even if your tire tread is good and your tire appears to be in good condition. If your tires are between 5 and 10 years old, they must be replaced as soon as possible. This period may differ between manufacturers, so it will benefit you to check with yours to make sure.

Bulges, low treads, and cracking are leading causes of vehicle damage and, sadly, injury. Regular maintenance is imperative to ensure the good overall performance of your tires and maintain your safety. Understanding how factors such as tire pressure, wheel balancing, and alignment affect the quality of your tires is also key to extending the life of your tires. These checks are simple to carry out and can also be done by your local mechanic at very reasonable rates, and along with this, your mechanic can detect any other problems that you may not see.
