NASCAR postpones Xfinity summer event at Daytona

The Wawa 250 at Daytona International Speedway has been postponed to Saturday, August 28, at 12:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN due to persistent rain that halted and prevented its completion on Friday, August 27.

The 250-mile event at Daytona, which serves as the 23rd event of the 2021 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, had completed 19 of 100 scheduled laps and was under its competition caution scheduled on Lap 15 when persistent rain made its way to the superspeedway venue. After the field was brought down to pit road, the race was red-flagged for more than an hour before NASCAR made the decision to postpone the event by a day as the rain continued to fall and persist on Friday evening.

At the time of the race’s postponement, AJ Allmendinger, who started on pole position and who won last weekend’s Xfinity event at Michigan International Speedway, was the leader followed by Christopher Bell, Myatt Snider, Austin Cindric and Brett Moffitt. Rounding out the top 10 were Justin Haley, Jeb Burton, Daniel Hemric, Jeremy Clements and Caesar Bacarella.

In addition, Brandon Jones was the only competitor to be eliminated from the event due to early engine issues.

The Wawa 250 at Daytona International Speedway will return to action on Saturday, August 28, at 12:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 27, 2021) – It’s been a special year for NASCAR driver Michael McDowell – wining the season-opening DAYTONA 500 and clinching a spot in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs. Friday, the surreal feeling became complete reality, when he became part of the DAYTONA 500 Champions’ Walk of Fame in front of the Daytona International Speedway Ticket & Tours Building.

“To be put in the same category as some of the greatest drivers in the history of our sport, a DAYTONA 500 Champion, is just mind-boggling to me. I am truly humbled and so proud. It’s been a dream,” said McDowell, whose victory in February was his first career triumph. “I think we have a shot to get our second Daytona win in tomorrow’s Coke Zero Sugar 400, too. We have a good car and am pumped about it.”

The DAYTONA 500 Champions’ Walk of Fame is a tradition that dates back to 1996 with NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Jarrett being the first to partake. As part of the DAYTONA 500 Champions’ celebration in February, every driver places their hands, right foot and autograph in a 3×3 foot cement block that is officially installed in August as part of the Coke Zero Sugar 400 Weekend.

McDowell will go for history yet again Saturday in the Coke Zero Sugar 400. Since the track opened in 1959 and began hosting two NASCAR Cup Series races a year, only five times has the DAYTONA 500 Champion backed it up with a Coke Zero Sugar 400 triumph.

The list of names is a “Who’s Who” of NASCAR royalty that includes: Fireball Roberts (1962), Cale Yarborough (1968), LeeRoy Yarbrough (1969), Bobby Allison (1982) and Jimmie Johnson (2013). Roberts, Yarborough and Allison are NASCAR Hall of Famers, and Johnson is a shoo-in once he becomes eligible, while Yarbrough won NASCAR’s Triple Crown in ’69.

Entering the summer classic Coke Zero Sugar 400, 15 drivers have secured their position in NASCAR’s Playoffs, but on the outside looking in, are another 15 drivers, who, with a win, can automatically punch their ticket towards a championship run in NASCAR’s premier series. Last year, William Byron pulled off the feat, capturing his first Cup Series win and a spot in the NASCAR Playoffs.

Fans can purchase tickets starting at $49 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and under. Those fans can also purchase access to the UNOH Fanzone for $60. Here, fans can participate in events before the race. This includes, but is not limited to, the return of the traditional Coke Zero Sugar 400 Pre-Race Concert featuring Chris Lane, pre-race ceremonies, driver introductions, access to the large grass ballfield, signing the start/finish line through the middle of the 18-degree, banked trioval.

Also scheduled is LIVE entertainment on the main UNOH Fanzone Stage, including Fan Q&A, which includes (scheduled) McDowell, Aric Almirola, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., Bubba Wallace, Daniel Suarez and two-time DAYTONA winning crew chief Drew Blickensderfer. Fans can also get photos with the winning trophies of the weekend in Ruoff Mortgage Victory Lane.

As part of the “Welcome Back” weekend for fans, the track’s outside Midway (In Front of Sunoco, Toyota, Axalta, Chevrolet and AdventHealth Injectors) and UNOH Fanzone will be the site of a host of exciting interactive activities, featuring eNASCAR Racing, along with other speedway partner exhibits like Pit Boss, Coca-Cola, GEICO, Chevrolet, Toyota, Wawa, Air Force (featuring a fighter jet), Door Dash, Busch Beer, General Tire and a NASCAR Kids Zone.

The first 10,000 fans through the gates on Saturday will receive complimentary Coke Zero Sugar 400 drawstring bags.

Kurt Busch and Monster Energy Join 23XI Racing Starting in 2022; Team Adds Second Car In Its Second Season of Competition

Mooresville, NC (August 27, 2021) – Today 23XI Racing announced that 2017 Daytona 500 winner Kurt Busch has signed with the organization to pilot the No. 45 Monster Energy TRD Camry beginning with the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season.

Busch joins 23XI Racing for his 23rd season in the NASCAR Cup Series following a three year stint with Chip Ganassi Racing where he drove the No. 1 car. The 2004 Cup Series champion comes to 23XI Racing with 33 Cup Series wins and 326 top-10 finishes throughout his career.

“I cannot begin to express my gratitude for this opportunity,” said Busch. “Racing to win is what I live for. Helping to continue developing a new team, alongside Michael Jordan, Denny Hamlin, and Toyota is exactly what I want to be part of. So Glad To Have You Back: This weekend, the ARCA Menards Series returns to the famed Milwaukee Mile for the first time since the 2007 season. In their 14-year hiatus, only one driver (Brad Smith) and four ARCA Menards Series teams have prior experience at the one-mile oval.

Sunday’s Sprecher 150 will be ARCA’s sixth-race overall in West Allis, Wisconsin since 1982.

The 150-lap race is also a combined ARCA Menards Series premier, ARCA Menards Series East and Sioux Chief Showdown event.

Welcome Back: For the third time this season, Young’s Motorsports welcomes Connor Mosack aboard their No. 02 Chevrolet SS.

Mosack returns to the team on the heels of an impressive performance last weekend at Michigan International Speedway. While the finish wasn’t what the Young’s Motorsports team had hoped, their on-track effort has everyone upbeat ahead of the penultimate ARCA Menards Series East race of the season.

In May, Mosack made his ARCA debut with the team at Dover’s Monster Mile. Starting 14th, he utilized the 125-lap race to move forward in his stock car debut to take seventh at the checkered flag.

The effort led by veteran crew chief Eddie Troconis was not only a top-10 for Mosack but also a top-10 for the Tyler Young-led team in their ARCA East Series debut.

Meet Connor: Connor Mosack, 22, will drive the No. 02 Nic Taylor Custom Fit Underwear Chevrolet SS in Sunday afternoon’s Sprecher 150.

A veteran of Motorsports, Mosack is a recent graduate of High Point University where he was on a presidential scholarship and earned a degree in business entrepreneurship.

Behind the scenes, Mosack is also a leader in his community. He organized a fundraiser for ContainIt, a student-led initiative that takes used shipping containers and turns them into transitional housing units. In its first year with Covenant Day School, it raised over $50,000.

He is also involved with the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation supporting kids with pediatric cancer.

Mosack’s Racing Career At A Glance: Mosack’s racing career began in 2017 in the INEX U.S. Legend Car ranks. Entering his first full season in 2018, the young driver needed just four races to earn his first victory, taking the fourth of five events in the 2018 Winter Nationals at Citrus County (Fla.) Speedway.

Racing in the Semi-Pro and Open Divisions, Mosack competed at Concord (N.C.) Speedway, the Summer Shootout Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway among other events. In 42 starts, Mosack earned 20 victories, 34 top-five and 37 top-10 finishes. Among those was a sweep of the National events at Las Vegas, including the Road Course World Finals and Asphalt Nationals.

In 2019, Mosack joined JR Motorsports to compete in the CARS Late Model Stock Tour Series and competed for the championship in 2020. In 10 starts, he earned three top-five, eight top-10s and finished sixth in the championship standings. With an average finish of 8.5, Mosack also earned Rookie of the Year Honors.

This season in addition to ARCA and Late Models, Mosack has competed in the Trans Am Racing Series by Pirelli where he has scored four podium finishes.

He is also a veteran of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway.

Calling The Shots: Guiding Mosack as crew chief of the No. 02 Nic Taylor Custom Fit Underwear Chevrolet is returning crew chief Eddie Troconis.

Troconis is a two-time winning crew chief in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and joined Young’s Motorsports at the beginning of the season after tenures at ThorSport Racing, AM Racing and Sam Hunt Racing (Xfinity Series) respectively.

He has 138 races as crew chief in Trucks, including last Friday night’s race at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway. In those races, he has two wins, 23 top-five and 46 top-10 finishes to his resume.

Michigan International Speedway | Henry Ford Health System 200 Race Recap: In the most recent ARCA Menards Series race at Michigan International Speedway, Connor Mosack made his premier ARCA Menards Series start.

After practicing fourth quickest overall in his No. 02 Nic Tailor Custom Fit Underwear Chevrolet, Mosack started 17th based on car owner points.

Once the green flag flew, Mosack entered the top-10 in one lap and maneuvered inside the top-five before fuel pump issues sent the team to the garage and ultimately a disappointing 16th place finish.

Young’s Motorsports 2021 ARCA Season: A staple in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Mooresville, N.C.-based Young’s Motorsports expanded their team to include ARCA this season and has competed in five premier events entering Michigan.

On Goals For The Sprecher 150 At The Milwaukee Mile: “I think a realistic goal for us would be to run in the top-five. So far, the hardest thing for me has been adjusting to much bigger tracks and learning how to race around other cars in the dirty air – but I don’t think I will have to deal with that on Sunday at the Milwaukee Mile.

On Michigan International Speedway: Of course, the way our day ended at Michigan was disappointing, but we had a really fast car, and I was happy with the speed we had.

“It’s hard to get to upset about things that are out of your control, and I think we showed if we get some luck to go our way, we can have a solid finish.

“I would have liked more laps to get some more experience on a place like Michigan, but I still feel like I was able to learn a lot in the short time we had on the track.”

The regular-season champion will also be crowned after the race, with Kyle Larson and Denny Hamlin as the top contenders vying for the title.

This weekend the Camping World Truck Series enjoys a week off from competition.
