Jeg Jr. enters the event sitting ninth in the points standings—merely 81 markers behind fifth place. With two wins himself at the facility and Elite Motorsports seemingly with a choke hold on the Pro Stock trophy at the Texas Motorplex for the past three years (Erica Enders won in 2022 and 2023) a second consecutive victory at the facility could mean a jump up the leaderboard in the season’s final push.

“I’ve been excited for the entire Stampede of Speed week. There’s so much going on. Attended the Champions Dinner last night which was a lot of fun, the FanFest tonight in downtown Waxahachie and then it’s time to race,” said Jeg Jr. “Mainly, we are looking to defend our 2024 title in Pro Stock with our brilliant SCAG Power Equipment hot rod but also stoked to take in the JEGS Allstar Championship which takes place Friday and Saturday.”

“Speaking of JEGS,” Jeg Jr. continued. “I can’t describe the feeling of coming back to the yellow and black and the JEGS livery in 2026 for our Pro Stock campaign. Enders picked up her 50th national event victory, 49th in Pro Stock, at the prestigious U.S. Nationals over Labor Day weekend this year. A win this weekend would be her second of the season.

Part of the JEGS 2026 announcement, Troy Coughlin Jr., who just had a semifinal finish at the Midwest Nationals, is competing for his first win of the season, first at the Texas FallNationals. Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup Season Hits Crescendo at Road Atlanta with Fletcher Race Win

BRASELTON, Ga (Oct. 9, 2025) – Round 13 of the Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin played out like a blockbuster movie at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta on Thursday.

The top three drivers vying for the championship found themselves running together in the closing laps of the race knowing that every press of the throttle and touch of the steering wheel would have consequences.

And on final lap of the race, the consequences were dire for two of the three challengers: Jeremy Fletcher (No. 22 McCumbee McAleer Racing) took the win, while Tyler Gonzalez (No. 57 BSI Racing) finished in the wall at Turn Nine and Nathan Nicholson (No. 56 Advanced Autosports) was issued a penalty for the incident.

A chaotic qualifying with limited green flag time and lots of penalties created an unusual grid for the race. McCumbee McAleer Racing locked out the front two rows, led by Nate Cicero (No. 83 McCumbee McAleer Racing) on pole. Fletcher started fourth, but Gonzalez started 12th, and Nicholson was all the way back in 24th.

An early race restart from yellow eradicated any cushion Fletcher thought he might have to his competitors, who used the opportunity to make up positions quickly. By lap 10, the championship contenders were all in the same frame as Gonzalez led, Fletcher was third and Nicholson was seventh.

Fletcher may have been content to circulate in third with Gonzalez in his sights, but when Nicholson took that final podium spot from him, Fletcher knew it was time to charge. After a long battle with rookie Marcello Paniccia (No. 19 Saito Motorsports Group) Fletcher was into second and then around Gonzalez and into the lead.

There was a chance, however, that his race might be over before the checkered flag, since Paniccia spun from possible contact with Fletcher, which would earn him a penalty. Fletcher was confident he didn’t touch the rookie and race control agreed.

“With that incident, I fully knew that I couldn’t have physically done anything there,” Fletcher recalled. “I was pretty confident that would be that call.”

Like it was written for a movie, the top three in the championship were nose-to-tail as the time ticked away and the white flag came out. Coming into Turn 10, the trio fanned out. There was contact heading into the downhill braking zone. Gonzalez turned sideways and hit the wall while Fletcher and Nicholson continued.

Race control deemed Nicholson at fault for the incident and issued him a 99-second penalty after the checkered flag, bumping him to 25th in the official results, one spot ahead of Gonzalez.

The disparity in points earned in the race makes Fletcher the near de-facto season champion. He wasn’t just happy as he climbed out of his car, he was relieved.

“It was pretty calm to start with because I had my three teammates that I qualified up front with,” Fletcher said. “I thought we were going to drive away. Unfortunately, Tyler [Gonzalez] came and spoiled the show. He had incredible pace. Of course, he’s going to make his way through the pack as well as Nathan [Nicholson]. They both drove through the field and got up to the front where they needed to be. When you look in the mirror and the guys racing you for the championship are sitting right behind you and right in front of you, at that time, it’s stressful.

“The last two laps were pretty chaotic, and I would have been okay sitting in third at the end, but some fortunate events happened, and we came out on top for the third race in-a-row.

“The McCumbee McAleer boys have done such an amazing job all year. Dalton Dow on my car and Kevin Stelly, they work day in and day out to give me a fast car, and I just kind of have to turn the wheel and hit the gas sometimes.”

On nobody’s bingo card, was rookie Ethan Jacobs (No. 99 Advanced Autosports) quietly stalking his way to a podium finish. He was in the catbird seat when the championship contenders got together in Turn Nine and placed himself perfectly to almost take the lead, but ultimately finishing second.

“I was just hanging on to the back of that front pack, and it was in the back of my mind that I could maybe catch them on that last lap,” Jacobs said. “I knew they were going to make some dicey moves, and they did going into Turn 10. There was a little bit of contact and I was able to dive on the outside and come out two-wide and across the line for a second.”

Jacobs ran a limited season to keep himself eligible for the Mazda MX-5 Cup Shootout, which awards a $150,000 scholarship to compete in MX-5 Cup. He hopes the judges at the shootout take note of his performance and that he gets the chance to come back for a full season in 2026.

“I came to this race just hoping to impress the folks at Mazda and the people with Advanced Autosports,” Jacobs said. “I’m just trying to put together an effort for next season and I’m putting all my efforts toward the Shootout this year. This is the MX-5 Cup race weekend before I lose my rookie status, so I’m able to go to the Shootout and hopefully compete for a win there.”

Gresham Wagner was sure he wouldn’t be racing at Road Atlanta until the night before track sessions commenced but found himself in the final podium spot once penalties were applied.

“I have to thank, MMR a lot for giving me a call on Tuesday to come down here,” Wagner said. “I wasn’t expecting to race, and I had kind of accepted that, but then I got the next flight available, flew down here and jumped in the car, which is Stuart McAleer’s spare MX-5 that he has. The team put in double the effort than normal to get that all prepped and to sort out everything to make it logistically possible for me to get here and race.”

As much as he wanted to help his teammate win a championship, Wagner was equally set on adding more wins to his impressive career stats. More than anything, he was just happy to have the opportunity to race with his team.

“I have my own records and my own ambitions and everything to win another race, but at the same time, I’m not going to take something away from Jeremy [Fletcher] to benefit myself. If the opportunity presents itself, I’d love to finish off the weekend with a win, but obviously, I’m giving Jeremy some of the same benefits that he gave me you know, through our tenure as teammates.”

At the time of writing, Fletcher is the provisional point leader with 3,530 points. Nicholson has 3,190 and Gonzalez 3,090.

Two-time MX-5 Cup Champion Jared Thomas (No. 96 JTR Motorsports Engineering) not only finished fourth but earned the Penske Shocking Performance Award for coming from last on the grid to fourth at the finish. Thomas had an accident in qualifying and needed to move to a backup car, which by the rulebook meant he had to start last.

Cicero, the polesitter, finish fifth, putting three MMR cars in the top five and bolstering their hunt for a team championship.

Sally Mott (No. 15 JTR Motorsports Engineering) was the highest finishing female driver in the race. A 13th-place finish earned her $2,000.

Back behind the wheel for the first time since Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in May, Woody Heimann (No. 82 JTR Motorsports Engineering) claimed his second-ever Takumi Award for drivers over the age of 40. Heimann finished 16th and that completed a JTR Motorsports Engineering sweep of the special race awards.

PRO STOCK’S GREG ANDERSON EYES MORE DALLAS SUCCESS AT TEXAS NHRA FALLNATIONALS

ENNIS, Texas (Oct. 9, 2025) – Reigning Pro Stock world champion Greg Anderson earned another win two weeks ago in St. Louis and as the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series heads to Dallas for the 40th annual Texas NHRA FallNationals at the famed Texas Motorplex to close out the Stampede of Speed, he has his eye on another Dallas win and, potentially, another world title.

Anderson, the winningest Pro Stock driver in NHRA history, has 112 event wins to his credit, including most recently at World Wide Technology Raceway when he won the third race of the Countdown to the Championship playoffs.

Anderson and his HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro team have won six races so far in 2025. With his sights set on a seventh championship, he is ready to return to Texas Motorplex in search of his seventh NHRA FallNationals title.

“Going to Dallas for me every year, just on its own is a confidence boost,” said Anderson. “I love racing there. I love everything about the week, everything about it is great. I have a blast there and I’ve won there a lot, and I would love to have my name on the bricks down there. It’s just a cool place for me.

“I think if you look back at history, you’ll probably find a whole lot of times the winner of that race ends up being a world champion. I don’t think that’s a coincidence. It’s a tough place to win and the cream has to rise to the top there, so I love racing at Dallas.”

In 2024, Justin Ashley (Top Fuel), Matt Hagan (Funny Car), Jeg Coughlin (Pro Stock) and Gaige Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle) all won the Wally and the coveted Texas Motorplex cowboy hat. For this year’s race, the winners will receive a special, one-time only navy cowboy hat to commemorate the special 40th anniversary of the event.

The event will be broadcast on FS1 and FOX, with eliminations taking place on FOX on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 2 or 4:30 p.m. ET, depending on local listings.

The race, the 18th of 20 this year, starts with a bang with two qualifying rounds on Friday and the highly-anticipated “JEGS Friday Night Live,” featuring the popular “Battle for the Saddle.” It puts more than $40,000 in bonus money on the line for drivers in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle. The low qualifier under the lights on Friday night will net Top Fuel and Funny Car stars $15,000 each in bonus money, with $7,500 going to the quickest qualifier in Pro Stock and $5,000 in Pro Stock Motorcycle.

As part of the Friday night festivities, fans are encouraged to wear black and yellow as part of a special “Black and Yellow Bash,” adding another thrilling aspect to “JEGS Friday Night Live” and the weekend’s 40th anniversary celebration.

Anderson, who advanced to the final round last year against Coughlin, is the winningest Pro Stock driver at the famed Texas track. Another win this weekend will tie him with John Force for the most wins in Texas Motorplex history.

Anderson is currently second in the Pro Stock points standings, behind his KB Titan Racing teammate Dallas Glenn. Glenn kicked off the Countdown to the Championship with back-to-back wins in Reading and Charlotte. Anderson closed the point gap to 25 points. The duo has won all but three events this season.

“You can see how much I’m looking forward to it and this certainly is a confidence boost, but you have to go out there and race,” Anderson said. “You have to lock horns every round. First round to final round, you have to treat every round like a final round, and you have to execute. So, there’s no telling what’s going to happen the rest of the way, but it’s starting to feel good for our camp.”

Two-time Pro Stock Motorcycle champ Herrera won his second straight NHRA FallNationals last season over the six-time champ Matt Smith. Herrera moved to second in points following his St. Louis win, trailing teammate Richard Gadson by 29 points.

Ashley will need another Top Fuel win in Dallas to remain in the title chase. He’s 86 points behind leader Doug Kalitta, who will aim to stay on top against a field that also includes Shawn Langdon, reigning champ Antron Brown, Tony Stewart and Brittany Force.

Hagan won his fifth NHRA FallNationals Funny Car event last season over Ron Capps. Reigning champ Austin Prock leads the points after winning eight races this year, but Hagan has closed the gap to 20 points following his St. Louis win. Others to watch include Jack Beckman, Daniel Wilkerson, Paul Lee and Reading winner Cruz Pedregon.

The Texas NHRA FallNationals will also feature thrilling competition in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, which includes some of the sport’s top drivers. The weekend will include the finale of the exciting Holley EFI Factory X category and the Jr. Dragster Shootout.

Fans will also be treated to the JEG’s Allstars event, which pits sportsman racers from across the country against each other for the ultimate drag racing battle, beginning on Friday, Oct. 10. The popular competition moved to the famed Texas Motorplex in 2023, the unique specialty race is back as a major highlight of the 2025 Stampede of Speed as one of most highly-anticipated sportsman events of the year.

Leading into the race weekend, fans can take part in several events as part of the massive 10-day Stampede for Speed festival. That includes the popular NHRA Fan Fest at Railyard Park in downtown Waxahachie (October 9), where fans can meet and get autographs from all the top stars in the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series and the JEGS Allstars participants.

At the track, fans will be invited to the Nitro Alley Stage in the pits for Nitro School, meet and greets, music and much more. Race fans at Texas Motorplex can enjoy the special pre-race ceremonies that introduce and celebrate each of the drivers racing for the prestigious Wally on Sunday and includes the fan favorite SealMaster Track Walk. The final can’t-miss experience of any NHRA event is the winner’s circle celebration on Sunday after racing concludes, where fans can congratulate the event winners.

McDowell made his first career NASCAR Cup Series start at Martinsville Speedway in March 2008 and has gone on to record 29 starts at the storied venue. He earned a career/venue-best 12th-place finish in the division’s most recent visit to the famed half-mile oval at the seventh race of the 2025 campaign.

With four races left on this season’s schedule, the 2021 Daytona 500 winner is currently 21st in the Cup Series championship point standings and owns a trio of top-five and five top-10 finishes on the year.

And then I thought we had a really good run there going last fall. I thought we made some nice gains last year as a whole there. Had a really, really nice run going. I was excited about just having a solid day there in the fall and crashed. And I thought this spring was solid. More in the ballpark, not as good as we were in the fall, but certainly more competitive than some of the races.”

William Byron, driver of the No. 24 Chevrolet, on the Round of 8: “The next round is the one we’ve put our focus on. It’s what determines if you race for a championship. Everyone especially is going to put a lot of focus on this weekend’s race (at Las Vegas Motor Speedway). It’s the easiest way to lock yourself in. Talladega (Superspeedway) is a bit of a crap shoot, and honestly, Martinsville (Speedway) hasn’t been our strongest in the fall. This is the opportunity we’ve been waiting for though and hopefully we’re one of the four racing for a championship in Phoenix.”
