Florida Chamber Safety Council Joins Team Hardpoint at Rolex 24, Highlighting Safety in Florida

Racing to make Florida the safest, healthiest, and most sustainable state in America

TALLAHASSEE, FL (January 28, 2021)—Safety will be at the forefront in Daytona this week as team Hardpoint takes the track to compete in the Rolex 24. The team’s car will sport the Florida Chamber Safety Council logo in an effort to raise awareness and promote workplace safety in Florida.

“Racing is an incredible sport, but it can be a dangerous workplace for drivers, crew members and spectators,” said Katie Yeutter, Florida Chamber Safety Council President & Chief Operating Officer at the Florida Chamber of Commerce. “It is necessary for employers to commit to safety culture in workplaces of all kinds, including the racing community. The Florida Chamber Safety Council is proud to invest in team Hardpoint to promote workplace safety as they race in a safe and competitive fashion.”

During Saturday’s race, the Florida Chamber Safety Council will be creating a video series with the team’s drivers, crew and other safety leaders to highlight safety best practices in the workplace.

Serving as the National Safety Council’s Florida’s chapter, the Florida Chamber Safety Council sets the national standard for safety leadership as a one-stop platform to help Florida employers develop employee-driven programs that empower personal accountability for workplace safety and health. The Safety Council is an incubator of research, education, and leadership for safety initiatives and best practices, and the go-to resource for Florida businesses with the goal to make Florida the safest, healthiest, and most sustainable state in America.

Wright Motorsports Revises Rolex 24 Driver Lineup Following Incident in Practice

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., (January 28, 2021) — Following an incident in Michelin Pilot Challenge practice on Wednesday afternoon, the decision has been made to retire the No. 16 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport for the remainder of the weekend. The Wright Motorsports car’s leading driver, Ryan Hardwick, will also withdraw from the Rolex 24 At Daytona, the season-opening round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Hardwick’s condition is stable and the driver was kept overnight at a local hospital for observation, but due to a concussion he will not be able to drive the No. 16 Porsche 911 GT3 R in Saturday’s Rolex 24 At Daytona. The 1st Phorm entry will still compete in the event, with Trent Hindman joining the existing Wright Motorsports roster of Patrick Long, Jan Heylen, and Klaus Bachler.

“It’s unfortunate that I won’t be able to join the team for the big race,” said Hardwick. “I wish I was driving with them, but sadly that won’t be possible. When I first learned I wouldn’t be able to drive, Trent was immediately one of the first drivers I thought of to step in. I want the team to continue and our 1st Phorm car to be on track to compete in this event. I’ve followed Trent’s career for the last few years, and I think he’ll be a good fit. Trent is joining a really great team, and I wish them the best of luck this weekend. He’s in the best hands.”

Already at the circuit, Hindman was able to begin getting settled with his new team on Thursday morning, immediately beginning the team introductions, seat fittings, and team procedure reviews, in preparation for the first practice later in the morning. The 25-year-old American has several sports car racing championship titles, most recently winning the 2020 GT World Challenge America Powered by aws Silver Championship, as well as the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar championship GTD class title.

“First and foremost, what’s most important is that Ryan is okay,” said Hindman. “Filling in for the Rolex 24 under these circumstances is never ideal, but I am grateful to John, Ryan, and the Wright Motorsports team for trusting me with this opportunity. The No. 16 Porsche looks to be a strong contender for victory come Sunday, and I certainly look forward to doing everything I can to make it happen.”

The first official practice begins on Thursday, January 28 at 11:05AM. The team will have a total of three practice sessions on Thursday, offering almost four hours of track time for the team to get settled into its new lineup.

The Rolex 24 At Daytona will begin at 3:40PM Eastern on Saturday, January 30th, airing live on NBC for the first hour, then move to NBC Sports. For just $3.00, fans can watch the race live with no interruptions on NBC Sports Gold’s TRACKPASS, which is available on smart TVs, tablets, computers, and cell phones. IMSA Radio is slated to provide comprehensive coverage of all on track WeatherTech sessions worldwide, and international audiences can find their Rolex listings via imsa.com/internationalcoverage.

RISI COMPETIZIONE ROLEX 24 HOURS AT DAYTONA PREVIEW – 2021

A Race Engineers’ Perspective

(Houston, Texas, January 28, 2021)… Rick Mayer, race engineer of the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GTLM team, shares his preview of this year’s 59th annual Rolex 24 At Daytona, January 28-31, 2021.

The driver line-up for Risi Competizione for this year’s Rolex 24 At Daytona at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida features Italians Alessandro Pier Guidi and Davide Rigon, along with Brit James Calado and Frenchman Jules Gounon.

General: We qualified fourth (4th) in the qualifying race during the Roar on Sunday. The race forecast is mild, highs in the 70s. Most of the GTLMs raced here twice last year with the same spec cars and same spec tires. The tires being the same as last year shouldn’t put us at a large disadvantage. Each team had to pick their Daytona dry tire allotment in December. All manufacturers have hard, medium and soft tires to choose from, with Daytona being a predominately soft tire track. This shouldn’t be an issue for anyone as the tires are unchanged from 2020. GTLM cars are allowed 37 total dry tire sets for the event, which includes all the practice sessions and the race. Quantity shouldn’t be an issue, if you selected the right compounds.

The pit rules are the same this year with fuel and wheel changes at the same time and Prototypes (DPi, LMP2, LMP3) pitting first under the safety car and all GT’s pitting second. This should work out as the GTDs are required to take fuel slower. This should allow all the GTLMs to get out of the pits before the GTDs, as fueling determines the pit stop time, unless it’s a really small amount of fuel. There’s a fueling advantage of six (6) seconds on a full fill (from empty) for the GTLMs. Minimum full fill time (from empty) is regulated at 34 seconds for GTLM and 40 seconds for GTD. Safety car fuel stops rarely occur when you need a full fill from empty so the actual difference will be proportionately less. I think we’ll see some GTDs mixed with GTLMs on restarts. The GTDs are so fast on the banking and with their ABS it’s difficult for GTLMs to pass without risk. The LMP3s with the Pro drivers are able to do the same lap times as the GTLMs. But the LMP3s are regulated to 290kph (180 mph) on top speed, making the GTLMs faster on the banking. Restarts could be tricky. The addition of LMP3’s this year will likely increase the accidents and the amount of safety cars, as it did when we raced with LMPCs, particularly if the weather changes. It will also create restart issues in the race. The LMP2 and LMP3 are Pro-Am and they have significantly harder spec compound tires than GTLMs. These cars will struggle on restarts to get heat in their tires. The Am drivers will really struggle here. Expect GTLMs and LMP3 and some LMP2s to be fighting for track position.

The pit boxes are arranged this year so under a safety every GTLM and every Prototype have a clear in and out of their pit box; meaning pit lane boxes are ordered P-GT-P-GT-P, etc. So, under safety car stops the car in front and behind should not be in their pit box; some of the GTDs weren’t so fortunate last year.

Competitiveness: The IMSA WeatherTech specific balance of performance (BoP) GTLM rules evolved from last year’s Daytona, and this year’s Roar, without accounting for other 2020 races. IMSA uses a Daytona-specific BoP. The BoP is nearly unchanged from the 2021 Roar with only small changes and no changes to the Ferrari. Last year BMW had a significant advantage on the banking with power, but the Roar BoP addressed this. This year the Porsche ‘should’ dominate the pace. The new Corvette fared well and should run up front. But the Ferrari will be quicker than last year. The GTLM competitors “displayed” performance will vary. This is just the start to the long season. Risi is only signed up for this race; most of the others are signed up for the season, except BMW. Showing what you have at Daytona might result in a BoP reduction that will carry through for the entire season. Teams will be cautious of what they show and when and how much true pace they display.

Setup and Track: Clearing traffic at Daytona is significant in setup considerations. There is a tradeoff between lower downforce (lower drag) for banking speed and higher downforce for better braking and power down at corner exits. Trimming downforce too much can be slower overall on the banking from compromising the exits leading onto the banking; but there is a limit. There are also different minimum wing angle rules for each car specific to Daytona. Each car is built to a very car-specific homologation, very little can be changed by the team. The only way to really control banking speed (other than power) is by wing angle, to control drag. In addition to braking and power down at corner exits, the higher downforce also helps with the bus stop and tire longevity/degradation. But little passing is done in the infield so banking speed is important; if lap times are similar, choose better banking performance. These are all significant factors when racing for 24 hours, not just a lap time.

The Race: There were many safety car periods in the races where we had significant car count in Pro-Am prototype classes. Their larger grid this year will likely add more safety car periods with more Am (amateur) driver content in faster cars. This was the case when we had LMPC cars running in the series. Clearing GTD traffic this year will again be challenging. And LMP3s, with Pro drivers, have similar lap times to the GTLMs. The lap times are closer than ever between GTD and GTLM. GTDs have very good banking speed, some better than GTLMs. Combine that with their ABS (not allowed in GTLM) and it’s hard for GTLMs to pass GTDs cleanly. The IMSA pit stop rules are intended to remove the potential to gain time in the pits. Cars are BoP’d, in part, to ensure the same number of laps in a fuel stint and the same time to take a stint load of fuel in a pit stop. The only real way to gain in the pits is to save fuel on track (use less fuel per lap) and either make less pit stops or shorter stops as the pit stop time is determined by the time it takes to fuel the car. Strategy still comes into play, particularly in the closing stages of the race. One less stop in the last three (3) or four (4) hours, or stretching a couple stints to avoid a late fuel splash, could determine a win or podium.

Risi Competizione (Ferrari GTLM) has a better chance this year than the previous years. We’re cautiously optimistic this year. We’ve had the same core crew at Risi for several years; team familiarity reduces errors. We have a great driver lineup with four (4) very experienced drivers who have all raced at Daytona; they all know the F488 GTLM and have raced with Risi in the past. Let’s hope this familiarity plays to our advantage and we have a good result!

The iRacing Pro Invitational Series returns to NASCAR

On January 26th NASCAR and iRacing announced a new season of the all-stars virtual race. The iRacing Pro Invitational Series will sport a new look and a 10-race schedule where NASCAR stars will compete virtually. The first five races of the series will go live in primetime on FS1, thanks to the renewed support by FOX Sports.

The tv network helped NASCAR and iRacing set viewership records with the inaugural Pro Invitational last season. The final five races of the series will be aired by NBC Sports, with a schedule and details to be announced later.

You fans of NASCAR out there will get a sort of preview of the upcoming weekend’s “real life” race, a very useful feature if you think of putting some money on wagers. You can also use this Bet365 Review to learn the rules of the game and get ready to try your luck ahead of the actual races. The NASCAR Cup Series is set to visit new tracks and new markets in 2021, so the Pro Invitational will be particularly beneficial to give you an idea of what to expect as the real-life drivers take on challenging new circuits throughout the season.

The first five mid-week events will air on FS1 on select Wednesday nights beginning March 24th, featuring an exciting mix of races that include Bristol Motor Speedway’s new dirt configuration and fan-favorites Talladega Superspeedway and Darlington Raceway, and Austin, Texas’ famed Circuit of the Americas’ facility. NBC Sports will pick up the second half of the 10-race season once the network’s broadcast window begins in June.

“FOX Sports embraced the eNASCAR iRacing Invitational Series in the spring as a way to keep race fans entertained, but we quickly realized it was a product and collaboration that we would continue to explore,” said FOX Sports Executive Producer, EVP/Head of Operations and Production Brad Zager. “The product is best-in-class, it delivers NASCAR to an even broader audience and, let’s face it, it’s a heckuva lot of fun.”

In 2020 the iRacing Pro Invitational Series had its baptism of fire and a very successful debut season. The initiative’s goal was obviously to counteract the disruption of the season caused by the unexpected lockdown measures. “The success of our eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series was underscored by an industry-wide effort to entertain fans during the early months of the global pandemic,” said Tim Clark, NASCAR’s senior vice president and chief digital officer. “This year, the Pro Invitational will return with a schedule of midweek races that will bridge the gap between our real-world races each weekend.”Steve Myers, the iRacing executive producer, expressed his satisfaction for the positive reaction of the whole sector:  “It’s even more fulfilling that the industry has rallied around our platform not only as the most authentic re-creation of the sport, but also a terrific tool to help grow NASCAR’s audience and generate revenue to strengthen the entire ecosystem.” Myers is convinced that the virtual series is now quickly setting a standard: “After last year’s Pro Invitational success, we’re proud that our partners at NASCAR, FOX, and the race teams view the series as an integral part of their marketing and fan engagement strategies for 2021,”

Rebel Rock Brings Well-tested Camaro to Daytona Season Opener

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla (27 January 2021) – Rebel Rock Racing wrapped up a three-day Roar Before the Rolex 24 test session at Daytona International Speedway right on plan, putting the final touches on preparation for the No. 71 Urban Grid Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R for Friday’s BMW Endurance Challenge, the opening round of the 2021 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge.

Frank DePew and Robin Liddell logged six hours of practice during the test, with a best lap of 1:55.538-seconds. Liddell was fifth-fastest in Saturday morning’s rainy session.

“I feel like we’ve had a successful test,” DePew said. “The car has been slowed down quite a bit [by a significant off-season Balance of Performance adjustment], so I’m not sure how competitive we’ll be, but we’re going to do the best we can.”

The team led the Grand Sport class with two victories in 2019 – its first full season – and won a four-hour event at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta last season.

“I certainly think we’ve got a good package and we can have a good race, even though we won’t have the speed that this car is capable of,” Liddell said. “Then we’ll just have to see what everybody else does and how we can move forward.”

At four hours in duration, Daytona joins Watkins Glen as the lone endurance events on the 10-race schedule. This year, the team will use a two-driver lineup for the long races as DePew continues to accelerate his progress in the IMSA ranks.

“We’ve made a decision that Frank’s going to do more driving,” Liddell said. “He’s at the point where he has been progressing at this level and getting quicker, and having the extra time in the car in the race is ultimately a good thing. It gives me a lot of driving to do, but I think overall it will be quite interesting to see how it all works out.”

DePew is up to the challenge of opening the race with a double-stint of approximately 90 minutes.

“This will probably be the first time that I’ve raced more than an hour and a half or more straight,” DePew said. “I’m looking forward to spending more time in the car.”

While slowed by the BOP adjustment, Rebel Rock is looking to capitalize on the durability and reliability of its Camaro to build a foundation for its full-season campaign.

“I think we’ve got a well-gelled team now,” Liddell said. “We rolled off the trailer with a very good setup. The car was good from the beginning – balance and handling wise – and that’s testimony to some of the work Pratt & Miller is doing away from the race track. Charlie (Ping) our engineer is a good strategist and the guys are doing a really good job in the pits, so I think with all of that we can execute very well. If we’re in the hunt at the end, that’s really where we will find out if we’ve got a car that can compete or not.

“Our main goal is to maximize the points, and bigger-picture wise, try to smooth out some of these peaks and troughs we’ve had in the past. If we can just smooth that out and be more consistent with our results, hopefully we can find ourselves in a good spot at the end of the year.”

Practice for the BMW Endurance Challenge begins with a one-hour practice beginning at 1:45 p.m. (all times ET) on Wednesday. Thursday will have a 45-minute session at 9:45 a.m., followed by GS qualifying at 2:45 p.m. Friday opens with a 20-minute warm-up at 9:10 a.m. The BMW Endurance Championship gets the 2021 season underway at 1:10 p.m., and will be televised live on the IMSA TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold.

Kevin Doran Looks for More Daytona Success

Kevin Doran

Sean Creech Motorsport moves to WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2021

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (27 January 2021) – Kevin Doran will be looking to add to his impressive resume in the Rolex 24 At Daytona when he returns to the opening IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race of 2021 in a brand-new role.

Doran will be engineering the No. 33 Sean Creech Motorsport Exelixis/iMonza Ligier JS P320 Nissan driven by João Barbosa, Lance Willsey, Wayne Boyd and Yann Clairay.

Based in Lebanon, Ohio, Doran has built one of the top car preparation and management organizations in the country. Doran’s accomplishments are legendary in endurance sports car racing.

Doran won the Rolex 24 five times in various roles. Coming to the event for the first time in 1985 as a crewman for Holbert Racing, he helped guide Al Holbert, Derek Bell and Al Unser Jr. to back-to-back Daytona victories in 1986 and 1987. He won as team owner/crew chief for Gianpiero Moretti in 1998 and Fredy Leinhard in 2002. An original Daytona Prototype constructor, Doran became the first DP car builder to win the Rolex 24 overall in 2004.

“This is such a huge event,” Doran said. “I was so young when I came here for the first time with Al Holbert, I was amazed by the status of the event, and how it’s continued to grow over the years. It goes well beyond a race. It’s a mega-event, and in the end, those are the races I like: the Rolex 24, Sebring, Le Mans, Indy 500. I’ve done them all; they’re the top four events. The energy from the crowd and all the excitement of the international gathering. Hopefully, it will have all of that this year despite all this COVID mess!”

Doran has accumulated a warehouse full of memories from his Daytona experiences.

“The first victory had special meaning with Holbert,” Doran said. “We led for around 21 hours in 1985 but finished second to Preston Henn. To come back and flip the tables in ’86 was something. Henn’s guys led a lot of that one, and we came from behind to win.”

The following year, Holbert took over the role of team manager and added Chip Robinson as driver. With the drivers suffering from overheating issues due to fumes in the cockpit, Holbert drove a critical stint to preserve the second-consecutive victory for the No. 14 Löwenbräu Special Porsche 962.

In 1989, Doran prepared a former Holbert 962 as a second entry for Jim Busby, driven by IndyCar legends Mario and Michael Andretti.

Doran made his debut as a car owner in the 1993 Rolex 24, entering a Nissan NRTI-90 for a driver lineup including Gianpiero Moretti, Derek Bell and John Paul Jr. Coming back from a 32-lap deficit, the team was leading by two laps when the engine let go with less than two hours remaining.

Doran and Moretti moved to the new Ferrari 333SP in 1995. After coming close many times, the veteran Italian finally broke through in 1998 with a popular victory shared with Mauro Baldi, Didier Theys and Arie Luyendyk.

“Probably the most fun and exciting one was when Gianpiero won in ’98,” Doran recalled. “He tried so long and so hard to win that race, to be able to go to victory lane with him was really memorable.”

Doran won with Leinhard, Theys, Baldi and Papis in 2002 in a Judd-powered Dallara. Two years later, Bell Motorsports took the Doran-manufactured Pontiac Doran to victory with Christian Fittipaldi, Terry Borcheller, Andy Pilgrim and Forest Barber.

“I’ve run this race with everybody,” Doran said. “I’ve had such a cool history at the Rolex 24, through the heyday of sports car racing. I got to race with a lot of my heroes.”

Next weekend, Doran is looking to add to that history when he returns to the Rolex 24 in a new role with Sean Creech Motorsport.

“Sean’s put together a stellar lineup,” Doran said. “João is a super-star on my list since the early 2000s. I remember him at Le Mans, driving by the Audis in a privateer Dallara-Judd that was similar to the one we won with at Daytona. I was super-impressed, and he’s someone I’ve always wanted to work with.

“I worked with Yann three years ago in LMP3 with the Extreme Speed team, and he helped us win the championship with Kris Wright. He’s a great driver, and super familiar with the LMP3. Everybody on the team is on top of it; it’s a stacked group, and it would be super-cool to win it one more time.”

Official practice for the 59th Rolex 24 At Daytona will begin Thursday, Jan. 28, with the twice-round-the-clock classic taking the green flag at 3:40 p.m. on Saturday.

Ty Dillon joins Joe Gibbs Racing for select Xfinity events

Another name has been added to Joe Gibbs Racing’s lineup for the 2021 NASCAR Xfinity Series season after it was announced that Ty Dillon will be joining the organization and pilot the No. 54 Toyota Supra on a part-time basis.

The 28-year-old native from Lewisville, North Carolina, will make his first start with JGR in the Xfinity Series season-opening event at Daytona International Speedway on February 13. He is also scheduled to compete at Homestead-Miami Speedway on February 27, Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 6 and at Talladega Superspeedway on April 24.

Dillon is coming off his fourth full-time season with Germain Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series. With Germain Racing ceasing operations due to sponsor GEICO parting ways from the team, Dillon was initially left without a ride heading into the 2021 season. Currently, he has joined forces with Gaunt Brothers Racing to drive the No. 96 Toyota Camry as he attempts to qualify for the 63rd annual running of the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway on February 14.

The 2021 Xfinity Series season will mark Dillon’s first appearance in the series since he made select starts in 2018 with Richard Childress Racing. In 146 previous starts, he has recorded one victory, which occurred at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in July 2014. He has also recorded four poles, 33 top-five results, 88 top-10 results, 586 laps led, an average result of 10.5 and a best points result of third place in 2015.

“I am so thankful and excited for the opportunity to drive for Joe Gibbs Racing and Toyota,” Dillon said. “They have been on top of the sport for a long time and this is a great opportunity for me to go prove that I am a winner and show what I know I can do in a race car.”

Dillon will serve as one of multiple competitors to pilot JGR’s No. 54 “all-star” car throughout the 2021 Xfinity Series season, including Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr. and Ty Gibbs. Busch, the all-time winningest driver in the Xfinity circuit with 97 career victories, will compete at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 20, Circuit of the Americas on May 22, Texas Motor Speedway on June 12, Nashville Superspeedway on June 19 and at Road America on July 3. Truex, a two-time Xfinity champion who has not competed in series since 2010, will drive the No. 54 Toyota Supra at Atlanta Motor Speedway on July 10 while Hamlin, the reigning three-time Daytona 500 champion, will make his series’ one-race appearance at Darlington Raceway on September 4 during Labor Day Weekend. Gibbs, a full-time ARCA Menards Series competitor for JGR and a newcomer to the Xfinity Series, will compete in select events, beginning at the Daytona International Speedway Road Course on February 20. Chris Gayle will be serving as crew chief for the No. 54 team.

“Ty Dillon is going to be a great addition to our Xfinity lineup,” Steve de Souza, Executive Vice President of Xfinity Series and Development for Joe Gibbs Racing, added. “Ty has a lot of experience across the board and that will definitely be an asset to our whole group as we get going this season.”

A full schedule of Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 54 Toyota team for the 2021 Xfinity Series season will be announced at a later date.

Era Motorsport’s Fan-Favorite Crayon Car is Ready for Rolex 24

DAYTONA, Fla., (January 27, 2021) – The No. 18 Era Motorsports Oreca LMP2 car debuted its special livery for the Rolex 24 At Daytona last week, designed by a six-year-old (and three quarters) race fan from Ontario, Canada. Following week of testing, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season officially begins this week with the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the first and longest event on the 2021 calendar. Together with drivers Kyle Tilley, Dwight Merriman, Ryan Dalziel, and Paul-Loup Chatin, the team ran a successful test, ready for their sophomore run in the endurance event.

The Roar Before the 24, the first official test session of the season, concluded on Sunday with a 100-minute race to set the grid for this week’s Rolex 24. Dwight Merriman and Paul-Loup Chatin competed in the event, racing in varying conditions to earn a seventh place starting position for Saturday, January 30. The team is on pace to have a positive run, with Dwight Merriman already bettering last year’s laps by two seconds, and the other three drivers running within two tenths of a second.

Five classes will compete in this year’s race: DPi, LMP2, LMP3, GTLM, and GTD. Era’s LMP2 class has a total of ten entries with forty different drivers slated to compete. The multi-class racing combined with varying light, temperatures, weather, and cars adds to the challenge of the event, making a win or podium finish even more gratifying.

Fans in the United States scan watch the race live in its entirety on NBC Sports Gold’s TRACKPASS for $2.99, or watch the first hour on NBC. Fans outside the United States can visit imsa.com/internationalcoverage to find their correct broadcast information. IMSA Radio will continue to offer their comprehensive coverage of every session, and any additional information can be found on imsa.com.

Driver Quotes

Kyle Tilley
I couldn’t be happier with the team and the car heading into this week’s Rolex 24 At Daytona! Dwight is two seconds a lap faster than last year, and Paul-Loup, Ryan, and myself are all within two tenths of each other, so it bodes well for the race.

LMP2 is stacked this year, which is great for the class. IMSA really got it right by allowing the P2 cars to have a bit more freedom with the aero settings. It has made the car come alive! Bring it on!

Dwight Merriman
I feel like we all did a great job utilizing every session of the Roar Before the 24. We’re all running consistent lap times in what will be a very competitive field. The qualifying race gave us a brief glimpse of how intense the LMP2 class will be for the race, and we’re ready to fight for it. The entire team did a great job making all the preparations, and we’re ready to go.

Ryan Dalziel
We had a great Roar weekend, so I really believe we are in good shape for the 24 hour race. Our speed seems really good, but more importantly, the team is working very well together. I am confident we will have a great race and I look forward to getting to the end, preferably standing on the podium with my teammates.

Paul-Loup Chatin
I am really very happy with the week we spent for the roar. The whole team did a very good job to put us in the best position. Dwight, Kyle, and Ryan are exemplary teammates, we have all worked in the same direction to make the car the most efficient and comfortable to find the best possible set up for the 24 Hours At Daytona.

We are now in the last straight line before the race and it will be important for us to focus on the last small adjustments to make sure that we are in the best conditions for the start on Saturday. It will be a long and difficult race, but together we have the potential to achieve a very good result. Obviously, we will have to run a race without errors and have some success, but we will do our best to allow Era Motorsport to achieve the best possible result.

Atop the box for the 2021 NXS season will be long-time race engineer Jason Trinchere, who was previously Justin Haley’s lead engineer during the 2020 NXS season. Trinchere has worked in all three of NASCAR’s top series as an engineer and is a great addition to the Kaulig Racing crew chief lineup.

Eversley and Strelzoff, Henderson and Noaker the Driver Pairings at the Four-Hour Race to Begin the 2021 Season

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (January 27, 2021) – Fresh off a successful test during the Roar Before the 24, the two-car Atlanta Speedwerks Honda Civic TCR program is ready to get the 2021 season underway with a four-hour IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge race on Friday at Daytona International Speedway. Greg Strelzoff and Ryan Eversley will co-drive the No. 94 Dinner With Racers/Lemons of Love Honda Civic TCR, with Brian Henderson and Robert Noaker sharing duties in the No. 84 Sabelt/Pagid Honda Civic TCR.

Eversley and Strelzoff participated in the series-wide test less than a week ago at Daytona to help the team shake down the car and provide a refresher for Strelzoff, who stepped away from racing for nearly five years after multiple podium finishes in what was then the ST class of this same championship. The test was a success, both in getting Strelzoff up to speed quickly and for the car, which posted the quickest time in the last session. During that session, with veteran championship contender and host of the popular racing podcast and Amazon Prime television show Eversley behind the wheel, the team ran a simulated qualifying session with fresh Michelin Tires and a low fuel load, providing ideal conditions for the lap.

Noaker and Henderson proved they are a formidable pairing at last season’s finale at Sebring International Raceway. Driving together for the first time, the pair started at the rear of the field following an overnight engine swap and drove to as high as third place, before ultimately finishing sixth. Incidentally, their new teammate Eversley finished one spot ahead in that race and finished seventh in the championship point standings.

In addition to the two-car effort at Daytona, Atlanta Speedwerks continues to make plans for a three-car team beginning with the second round at Sebring.

The race event, sharing the race week with the famed Rolex 24 At Daytona, gets underway with a one-hour practice session on Wednesday at 1:45 p.m. ET. Each team gets another one-hour session on Thursday morning at 9:45 a.m. ET, followed by a 15-minute qualifying session at 2:25 p.m. A 30-minute warm-up session on Friday is the last chance to make changes to the car before the four-hour season opener at 1:35 p.m. ET. The race can be seen live on the NBCSN app via TrackPass.

Brian Henderson, Driver, No. 84 Honda Civic TCR: “I’m so excited to head back to Daytona and kick-off the 2021 IMSA season. Our team is stronger than ever and we have a great group of drivers lined up for this year. At the Roar, the No. 94 car showed that we have the speed to compete. I’m ready to hit the track with co-driver Robert Noaker and compete for wins. I’m feeling really good about this season!”

Robert Noaker, Driver, No. 84 Honda Civic TCR: “It’s nice to be racing again, the off season was a little shorter than previous years. It is going to be a neat experience racing at one of the most famous tracks in the world. My goal is to try to keep the car clean and to be in a good position at the end of the race to have a good finish. I have competed in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill twice so I’m use to longer races and have done 3-hour stints before, so this longer race will be fun. I’m Looking for to racing with Brian Henderson, he is a very smooth and clean driver and always thinking about keeping the car clean.”

Greg Strelzoff, Driver, No. 94 Honda Civic TCR: “I’m really happy with the progress that was made. The team has been phenomenal. I’m really surprised personally at how quickly I got up to speed. I need more, but I know where it’s at and I know how to do it. I just need to go execute. The good news is that it’s just a few bites away, it’s not huge quantum leaps. I love this track. There’s so much history here and I’ve had some great races here. This is where I had my first professional race, and I love it.”

Ryan Eversley, Driver, No. 94 Honda Civic TCR: “This is my fourth team racing this Honda Civic since 2018, and every time I get in one it’s like putting on an old pair of shoes. This is one of the best ones I’ve driven in a long time. Last year racing against the Atlanta Speedwerks cars, I knew they were really fast so when I got the call to come be a part of this program I knew we’d have fast race cars.”
