Transporting Goods With Your Vehicle: Retractable Ratchet Straps Vs Traditional Straps

No matter what vehicle you drive—whether it’s a pickup truck, SUV, van, or even a sedan with a roof rack—securing your cargo properly is essential for safety. Whether you’re moving furniture, hauling equipment, or delivering supplies, having the right tie-down solution is crucial. Two of the most common options are retractable ratchet straps and traditional ratchet straps. If you own a vehicle, there’s a good chance you’ll need to transport goods at some point. Whether you’re moving furniture, hauling equipment, or delivering supplies, securing your cargo properly is essential for safety. When it comes to tie-downs, two of the most common options are These the two mentioned above.

Each type has its advantages and is suited for different needs. In this article, we’ll break down their key differences, applications, and which one might be the best fit for you.

What Are Retractable Ratchet Straps?

Retractable ratchet straps are a type of tie-down strap designed for convenience, efficiency, and ease of use. Unlike traditional straps, they incorporate a built-in self-retracting mechanism, which automatically winds the strap back into its housing when not in use. This feature not only prevents tangling and excess strap management but also ensures a cleaner, more organized storage solution. Additionally, their intuitive design makes them an excellent choice for frequent use, allowing users to secure and release cargo quickly without the hassle of manual rolling and unrolling.

Benefits of Retractable Ratchet Straps:

  • Tangle-Free Design – The automatic retraction system eliminates messy excess straps.
  • Quick and Easy to Use – Just pull out the required length, secure the strap, and let the mechanism do the rest.
  • Neat Storage – No need to manually roll up the strap after each use.
  • Great for Frequent Use – Ideal for people who transport cargo regularly and want to save time.

What Are Traditional Ratchet Straps?

Traditional ratchet straps have been used for decades and rely on a manual ratcheting mechanism to tighten and secure cargo. They do not have a built-in retraction system, meaning the user must manually roll up and store any excess strap length.

Benefits of Traditional Ratchet Straps:

  • Highly Adjustable – Allows for more precise control over tensioning.
  • Suitable for Heavy-Duty Loads – Often comes in higher weight capacities than some retractable options.
  • Cost-Effective – Typically more budget-friendly, especially in bulk purchases.
  • Preferred by Some Professionals – For users who require a customized approach to securing cargo, traditional straps offer more flexibility.

Retractable vs. Traditional Ratchet Straps: A Detailed Comparison

Now, let’s break down the ratchet strap comparison into words to further clarify the differences:

  • Ease of Use: Retractable ratchet straps are designed for maximum convenience. The built-in retraction mechanism allows for quick deployment and retraction without the hassle of manually rolling up excess strap. Traditional ratchet straps, on the other hand, require the user to manually extend, tighten, and then roll up the strap after use, making them more time-consuming.
  • Storage & Organization: Retractable ratchet straps have a self-contained housing that neatly stores the strap, preventing tangling and keeping everything organized. Traditional ratchet straps, if not properly rolled and stored, can easily become tangled, requiring additional effort to keep them manageable.
  • Safety & Security: With retractable ratchet straps, the risk of loose strap ends flapping in the wind or getting caught in moving parts is significantly reduced. Traditional ratchet straps require careful handling to ensure all loose ends are secured, or they can pose a safety hazard.
Retractable vs. Traditional Ratchet Straps
  • Load Capacity: While retractable ratchet straps are strong and capable of handling medium to heavy-duty loads, traditional ratchet straps often come in higher weight capacities, making them the preferred option for securing extremely heavy cargo.
  • Durability: Both types of straps are durable, but retractable straps may experience wear in the retracting mechanism over time. Traditional ratchet straps, due to their simple construction, are generally more rugged and long-lasting, making them ideal for high-stress applications.
  • Price: Retractable ratchet straps tend to be more expensive due to their built-in mechanism, while traditional ratchet straps are often more budget-friendly, especially when bought in bulk.
  • Best For: If you frequently transport goods and need a quick, hassle-free solution, retractable ratchet straps are a perfect choice. For those dealing with extremely heavy loads or looking for a cost-effective, customizable solution, traditional ratchet straps remain the preferred option.

Now, let’s look at the table summary of these comparisons:

FeatureRetractable Ratchet StrapsTraditional Ratchet Straps
Ease of UseExtremely user-friendly with automatic retractionRequires manual rolling and unrolling
Storage & OrganizationSelf-contained housing prevents tanglingRequires careful rolling and securing
Safety & SecurityReduces loose strap ends, minimizing hazardsLoose ends can be hazardous if not secured properly
Load CapacitySuitable for medium to heavy-duty loadsAvailable in higher weight limits for extreme loads
DurabilityDurable, but retracting mechanisms may wear over timeGenerally more rugged and long-lasting
PriceMore expensive due to built-in mechanismMore budget-friendly
Best ForFrequent use, convenience, and organizationHeavy-duty applications, customization, and cost-effectiveness

Which One Should You Choose?

No matter what type of vehicle you own, there’s always a need for reliable cargo security. The key is understanding which type of ratchet strap suits your specific situation. If you frequently transport cargo and want a hassle-free, quick solution, retractable ratchet straps are ideal. If you’re dealing with heavy loads and require maximum durability, traditional ratchet straps might be the better choice. The best choice depends on your specific needs:

  • If you frequently load and unload cargo and prefer a hassle-free experience, retractable ratchet straps are a great option.
  • If you need to secure heavy loads, require maximum durability, or want a more affordable option, traditional ratchet straps may be the better fit.
  • For general vehicle cargo transport, retractable straps offer superior ease of use and safety.
  • For specialized applications, such as oversized or irregularly shaped cargo, traditional straps provide more flexibility.

Afterall…

Regardless of the vehicle you use, having the right tie-down solution is crucial for safe and secure cargo transport. Retractable ratchet straps are perfect for those who need an efficient, user-friendly option, while traditional ratchet straps provide superior strength and flexibility for heavy-duty applications. Whether you’re securing a few household items or hauling large commercial loads, there’s a ratchet strap designed to meet your needs. Always choose the right option based on your cargo requirements to ensure the safest and most efficient transportation. Both retractable and traditional ratchet straps have their place in securing cargo. Retractable ratchet straps excel in ease of use, organization, and quick operation, making them ideal for frequent users. Traditional ratchet straps remain a strong choice for heavy-duty applications, cost-conscious buyers, and those who need more customization.

retractable ratchet straps

Choosing the right strap depends on your needs, but no matter which type you use, always secure your cargo properly to ensure safe transport.

Susie Wheldon and Sebastian Wheldon named to key roles for next Sunday’s Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg presented by RP Funding

Sebastian set to drive a pace car, and Susie to wave the green flag over the NTT INDYCAR SERIES field

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Feb. 21, 2025) – In honor of the late Dan Wheldon’s victory in the inaugural Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg presented by RP Funding race on April 3, 2005, Susie Wheldon (Dan’s wife) and Sebastian Wheldon (Dan and Susie’s son) have accepted invitations to take part in ceremonial pre-race roles for the 2025 race. Oliver Wheldon, Dan and Susie’s younger son, will also join them on race day.

Dan’s accomplishments are remembered with permanent landmarks on the race site. A stretch of the St. Petersburg street circuit is known as “Dan Wheldon Way” and a winners monument stands near the course behind the Turn 10 Grandstand in honor of the popular winner and local resident.

As another NTT INDYCAR SERIES season gets under way on the downtown streets of St. Petersburg on Sunday, March 2, Sebastian, a rising open-wheel racing star of the sport in his own right, will drive one of the Honda Civic Type R pace cars ahead of the INDYCAR drivers. After Sebastian enters pitlane as the cars get into race formation, Susie will wave the green flag over the field marking the start of the 100-lap race and 2025 season.

“St. Petersburg was Dan’s adopted hometown and remains home for the boys and I. For him to win the inaugural race here in 2005 was something special. What made it even more special was that his teammates, TK (Tony Kanaan), Dario (Franchitti) and Bryan (Herta), followed him across the finish line in an all Andretti 1, 2, 3, 4 podium sweep!” said Susie Wheldon. “To be here with Sebastian and Oliver 20 years later – and for Sebastian to be driving a pace car in the parade lap – is really a full circle moment. And I am honored to wave the green flag for the start of the race. I have to thank Kim (Green) and Kevin (Savoree) and the entire IndyCar family for always making the boys and I feel supported. We are looking forward to an exciting race weekend.”

The Andretti Green Racing sweep in 2005 with Dan Wheldon leading 10 of the race’s 100 laps, while Bryan Herta was on pole position at the start, marked one of many firsts for this St. Petersburg event, which now spans 21 consecutive years. Named the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg at the time, the inaugural event also made history as the first-ever street race for the Indy Racing League. This was also the first race promoted by Kim Green and Kevin Savoree, who still operate it today, as the co-owners of Green Savoree Racing Promotions. Dan went on to win the Indianapolis 500 and the series championship later that season.

“That first event back in 2005 was certainly a remarkable moment for both our race team and our company. Having Susie and Sebastian taking on these important roles brings back a lot of terrific memories, and also reminds us how much we’ve learned over two decades of organizing this race!” said Kim Green, co-owner, chairman and CEO of Green Savoree Racing Promotions, organizers of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg presented by RP Funding. “Dan was a great racing champion of this event, the Indy 500 and the INDYCAR series. Kevin (Savoree) and I worked with Dan for the initial three years of his full-time INDYCAR career. It was a time filled with a lot of wins and lots of fun. We miss Dan.”

“We truly appreciate Susie, Sebastian and Oliver joining us and our team to be a part of another spectacular event in St. Petersburg while commemorating Dan’s win and his incredible racing legacy,” said Kevin Savoree, co-owner, president and COO of Green Savoree Racing Promotions. “We can’t wait for race day to get here!”

The 21st annual Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg presented by RP Funding will feature plenty of high-speed action along the picturesque downtown St. Petersburg waterfront. The NTT INDYCAR SERIES headlines the event as the premier open-wheel series in North American opens its season in St. Pete for the 15th time on Sunday, March 2. The racing schedule will also feature the sport’s rising stars as INDY NXT by Firestone, USF Pro 2000 Presented by Continental Tire and USF2000 Presented by Continental Tire speed through the downtown streets. Additionally, Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin will provide fender-bending sports car competition.

On Thursday, Feb. 27, before the racing gets underway, two community events – INDYCAR Party in the Park and the 5K Run on the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg Track – will kick off the event festivities in downtown St. Petersburg at North Straub Park. Free and open to the public, INDYCAR Party in the Park will feature driver appearances, music, giveaways, food trucks and more. Fans will be able to get up-close to race cars from all the series running during the race weekend in the park from 4-7 p.m. ET.

Additionally, runners and walkers have a unique opportunity to “race on track” during the 5K Run on the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg Track set for 5 p.m. ET on Feb. 27. The race starts and ends on Bayshore Drive NE, adjacent to North Straub Park. Participants can register now at gpstpete5k.com while supplies last with all proceeds benefiting the Police Athletic League of St. Petersburg.

Nathan Byrd Pre-Race Quotes:

On Atlanta Motor Speedway: “I’m looking forward to building further on my superspeedway confidence at Atlanta Motor Speedway. I have a lot to learn, and Atlanta, from what I’ve heard, is not a superspeedway where you can lay back and “ride” your way to a good finish.

“I hear it’s narrower, faster, more on the limit and that you have to be aggressive and try to move forward from the beginning of the race.

“I’m just hoping we can avoid any big accidents and get a solid finish for the team and become a better driver in the process.”

On Goals for Atlanta Motor Speedway: “Atlanta is another new track and perhaps a more challenging superspeedway from a driving perspective from what I have heard.

“I’ve done some familiarity work on the simulator to understand the track’s dynamics better so I’m not entirely caught by surprise come qualifying on Friday. And I’m continuing to study past race footage and onboards to get an even clearer idea of how racing and driving play out in real life.”

On Daytona International Speedway Debut: “Overall, I’m happy with what the team and I were able to achieve given my lack of experience on a superspeedway oval. We had an excellent qualifying and great race pace before getting taken out in quite an unfortunate manner; considering our lay-back and ride strategy, it looks like it would’ve netted us a solid top-10 finish had the incident not happened.

“I’m grateful for what I was able to learn throughout it all, especially on pit road where I was able to improve dramatically on my pit box exits, but I do feel a little bummed that we weren’t able to get to the point in the race where we were able to push hard, bump draft, and make up positions in the traditional superspeedway manner.

“All will come in due time, though, and I have no reason to complain given the amazing opportunity that God has provided us in the first place!”

Race Information:

The FR8 208 (135 laps | 207.9 miles) is the second of 25 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series races on the 2025 schedule. Qualifying is set for Fri., Feb. 21, 2025, beginning at 3:05 p.m. The field will take the green flag on Sat., Feb. 22, shortly after 2:00 p.m. with live coverage on FOX Sports 1, the Performance Racing Network (Radio), and SiriusXM NASCAR Channel 90.

● Daytona International Speedway | United Rentals 300 Race Recap: To no one’s surprise, the Young’s Motorsports team and new driver Anthony Alfredo came to play in the opening race of the 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series from the “World Center of Racing.”

Mother Nature canceled qualifying shortly after it started, landing Alfredo and the No. 42 DUDE Wipes Chevrolet Camaro team 27th on the starting grid.

From the moment the green flag dropped, Alfredo showcased the speed in his race car, quickly avoiding early race carnage, racing inside the top-10, collecting valuable stage points, and keeping himself in contention for a strong finish before being collected in two late-race accidents, relegating Alfredo and the team to a 22nd-place finish.

● Calling the Shots: Guiding Alfredo as crew chief of the No. 42 Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro is longtime crew chief Andrew Abbott.

On Saturday, he will be crew chief in his 132nd NASCAR Xfinity Series race. In his previous 131 races, he has four top-five and 13 top-10 finishes.

The season’s second race will be his sixth tango at Atlanta as crew chief in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Young’s Motorsports’ NASCAR Xfinity Series at Atlanta Motor Speedway: This weekend will mark Young’s Motorsports’ third NASCAR Xfinity Series start at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

The team earned a track-best finish of 17th after starting 35th in the 2024 edition of the 2024 Focused Health 250 with rookie driver Leland Honeyman Jr. behind the wheel.

Also, the Mooresville, N.C.-based team has 20 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series starts in the Peach State.

The organization posted a team-best 10th-place finish at the track on February 24, 2018, with Austin Dillon at the wheel in the 2018 Active Pest Control 200.

Since 2015, the Mooresville, N.C.-based Young’s Motorsports team has had an average starting position of 23.3 and an average finish of 21.6 in 20 Atlanta Motor Speedway Truck Series starts overall.

● Young’s Motorsports’ NASCAR Xfinity Series History: Since entering the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2024, the family-owned organization has logged 34 starts and maintains an average starting position of 27.3 and an average finish of 23.4.

Anthony Alfredo Pre-Race Quotes:

On Atlanta Motor Speedway: “The reconfiguration of Atlanta Motor Speedway has turned it into its own animal. It’s definitely not a traditional intermediate, but it’s also not a true superspeedway. Handling and track position matter, while drafting is still key.

“Things happen fast, and you need to be near the front to execute at the end, and hopefully, we can do that on Saturday with our Young’s Motorsports team.”

On Keys To Success At Atlanta Motor Speedway: “Track position is huge at Atlanta because it is difficult to pass, despite it being considered a drafting track. I want to be out front and managing the lanes rather than stuck in traffic.”

On Daytona International Speedway Finish: “It was great to have solid speed at Daytona to start the year and score points in both stages. We got some damage after being collected in an accident towards the end that prevented us from getting the finish we deserved.

“I’m looking forward to building on our speed and finishing better this weekend.”

On The 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series Season: “My goal this year with Young’s Motorsports is simple: to win a regular-season race and make the Playoffs.

“It’s certainly a tall order, but we can make it happen. We will build this program from the ground up and make that goal a reality.”

Delivering Performance on the Track and For the Planet… Dillon will race the Get Bioethanol Chevrolet this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway showcasing the benefits of racing with earth-kind and engine-smart bioethanol blended fuel, Sunoco Green E15. Whether it’s delivering cleaner and cooler high-octane on the track or on your drive to the grocery store, plant-based bioethanol makes a positive impact on our planet and for future generations. NASCAR drivers have now officially raced 25 million NASCAR miles on Sunoco E15, a notable milestone since NASCAR introduced the fuel in 2011. Dillon then joined the Coca-Cola Racing Family when the third-generation driver made his Cup Series debut in 2014.

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:

What is your plan for tackling Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend?

“I enjoy racing at Atlanta. It’s interesting with the drafting style racing there now. Coming up with a game plan is going to be key. You’ve got to be committed to strategy and stick to that strategy. When you don’t have a game plan that you can fully commit to, you can get stuck in the middle and that usually doesn’t turn out well. The track itself is still changing. I think the track with another winter on it could be slicker. We’re going to be there when it’s cold and we’ll have plenty of grip. RCR and ECR Engines always bring fast superspeedway cars with a lot of power though, so we need to capitalize on the weekend overall in our No. 3 Get Bioethanol Chevrolet.”

Kyle Busch and the No. 8 Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen Chevrolet at Atlanta Motor Speedway… Sunday’s 260-lap race at Atlanta will mark Kyle Busch’s 31st career NASCAR Cup Series start at the 1.54-mile oval. To date, Busch has one pole, two wins, 10 top-fives and 15 top-10s in the premier series at the quad-oval speedway. Additionally, the 39-year-old has led 610 laps, has an average starting position of 11.5, an average finish of 13, and has completed 95.2% (8,887 of 9,333) of the laps competed.

This Time Last Year… The Las Vegas, Nevada native scored a third-place result, finishing .007 seconds behind race winner Daniel Suarez in a thrilling three-wide photo finish.

“So Damn Close: Atlanta ’24”… FOX Sports goes under the hood of NASCAR’s closest three-wide finish as Suarez, Ryan Blaney and Busch tell the story of that electrifying, razor-thin, mind-blowing moment. The show premiered following the Duels at Daytona last week and will replay throughout the year. Check your local listing for airtimes.

Did You Know? Busch is the youngest winner in Cup Series history at Atlanta Motor Speedway, claiming the checkered flag in the 2008 spring event at 22 years, 10 months, and 7 days of age.

Success Not Limited to the Cup Series… In addition to his premier series success at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the veteran racer also has three NASCAR Xfinity Series and seven NASCAR Truck Series wins at the Hampton, Georgia facility.

Double Duty… In addition to his driving duties in Sunday’s Cup Series race, Busch will pilot the No. 7 Chevrolet Silverado for Spire Motorsports in Saturday’s Truck Series race.

KYLE BUSCH QUOTE:

Describe the current racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

“Atlanta is kind of a crapshoot race in general with it now being a superspeedway race. It takes a lot of speed, but also a car that handles well to be successful there. You have to pick the right line at the right time to get yourself where you can log some laps, especially in the middle stage of the race, and not get caught up in a crash when cars start to handle differently, and mistakes are made. With the superspeedway style of racing, there are so many things that can change any given lap, let alone that whole race. Races at Atlanta have become ones to remember.”

Jesse Love and the No. 2 Whelen Chevrolet at Atlanta Motor Speedway… Jesse Love has made two career NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at Atlanta Motor Speedway, both coming behind the wheel of the No. 2 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet in 2024. The 20-year-old qualified on the pole position for each of the races, en route to earning 12th-place and sixth-place results, respectively. One year ago in the February 2024 event, Love delivered a dominating performance, leading 157 of 169 total laps before running out of fuel in the closing laps.

Daytona Winner… After starting from the ninth position (based on 2024 owner point standings), Love methodically stayed in contention, led 30 laps, and captured the checkered flag in the season-opening Xfinity Series race at Daytona International Speedway. This marked the Menlo Park, California native’s first victory at the World Center of Racing and locked himself into the Playoffs for the second time in as many years.

Did You Know? Love has led a total of 180 laps in two Xfinity Series events at the Hampton, Georgia facility.

Laps Leader… Love’s 300 laps led on drafting tracks is the most all-time through seven Xfinity Series starts, ahead of teammate Hill who ranks second with 208.

JESSE LOVE QUOTES:

Describe winning your first race at Daytona International Speedway and now being locked into the Xfinity Series Playoffs in week one.

“It’s a huge morale boost for everyone on the No. 2 Whelen team. Getting them a win – what they deserve – is the number one goal each week. I’m very proud to be a part of a winning organization. Winning at Daytona was probably the most surreal moment of my life and probably will be for a little bit. Last season when I won my first race at Talladega, I was so elated that maybe I took the next few months off per se and got complacent with thinking it was easier than it was. We struggled after that win last year and I feel like I know now even after what is the biggest win of my career, that is still just as hard to win the next one. Danny Stockman (crew chief) gave me some advice before we left the racetrack on Saturday night. He told me to ‘go soak it up these next few days and celebrate, but you still have to work just as hard to keep up the intensity level.’ I appreciate that advice to stay in the game, stay in the hunt if you will.”

Looking forward to Atlanta Motor Speedway where you had success last season, what is the outlook heading into the weekend?

“While Atlanta is a drafting track, it’s so different than Daytona or Talladega. They’re not the same beast and you have a much different style at each place. Even the package we bring is somewhat different. I’ve been studying film and watching races from last season to see what I could do better. Atlanta is a huge plus for our No. 2 team, because Danny (Stockman) has found a way to make our car even better than everyone else. Last year was probably the most dominant car I’ve ever had in my career. It drove really well and did all the things right. Hopefully, we will get to qualify on Friday, start up front, control the race, and save more fuel than I did last year. We put in a lot of effort this offseason to figure out how I can save fuel efficiently and not do it as sporadically. At some point during the race, we are going to lose track position and will have to make it up. We have been looking at stuff to think outside the box of how to pass cars and not go the cookie cutter slide job route. Eventually people are going to catch on to it, so I’m working on a notebook of different passes that I can get through the field with if needed.”

Austin Hill and the No. 21 Bennett Transportation & Logistics Chevrolet at Atlanta Motor Speedway… Austin Hill has six career NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at Atlanta Motor Speedway, earning four wins and a second-place finish while piloting the No. 21 Bennett Transportation & Logistics Chevrolet. Hill has led at least one lap in each of his six starts, totaling 218 laps pacing the field. In addition, Hill has six NASCAR Truck Series starts at the Hampton, Georgia facility, posting one pole (2019), two top-five (2020, 2021) and three top-10 results (2019-2021).

Defending Race Winner… Hill enters Atlanta Motor Speedway as the defending race winner, with the racer sweeping both Xfinity Series events last season. Hill’s four wins through his first six starts at Atlanta is tied for second-most through six races at a track all-time – only behind Sam Ard who had five wins through six starts at Martinsville Speedway.

Record Chasing… Hill can tie Kevin Harvick for the most wins at Atlanta Motor Speedway with a victory this weekend.

Did You Know? Hill’s seven Xfinity Series wins on drafting tracks is tied for third all-time with Dale Earnhardt Jr. and behind only Dale Earnhardt and Tony Stewart (eight each).

Bennett 250 Loading… Located a short 15 minutes from Atlanta Motor Speedway, Bennett Transportation & Logistics’ headquarters are based in McDonough, Georgia. Serving as the entitlement partner of Saturday’s race, Bennett Family of Companies will have over 500 guests on site to watch Hill compete in the Bennett Transportation & Logistics 250. The No. 21 Chevrolet features an exclusive blue-and-white design to commemorate the special event.

Georgia Boy Returns Home… Hill is a native of Winston, Georgia, sited 60 miles from Atlanta Motor Speedway. The 30-year-old started his motorsports career racing bandolero and legends cars on the frontstretch quarter-mile oval at Atlanta. Hill’s family continues to live in the Peachtree State and will be in attendance for Saturday’s race.

Meet Hill… On Saturday, February 22 at 1:45 p.m. ET, Hill is scheduled to make an appearance at the Bennett Family of Companies Display in the Fan Zone at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Stop by to meet and get an autograph from the defending race winner.

AUSTIN HILL QUOTES:

What do you expect from this race in particular, as you search for your fifth win at Atlanta Motor Speedway?

“Atlanta is a different style of drafting. The technique is different than what you need at Daytona or Talladega. I’ve noticed that over each race on the surface, the track is changing and progressing. It’s losing grip and handling is becoming more of an issue. We still want to be fully trimmed out to have the speed, but the car also needs to handle. It’s difficult on drivers to balance the want for the car to drive well and the want for the car to have speed. Last year in the first race at Atlanta, my car didn’t handle well, but it had really good speed. There seems to be a lot more single file racing, and all drivers are fighting for the top lane. It’s hard to make lap time work on the bottom because you will get bogged down or the car doesn’t handle well enough to draft down there.”

Bennett Transportation & Logistics is celebrating a special weekend, serving as the entitlement partner for the race. Talk about what it means to represent Bennett at their home track.

“Every time we come to Atlanta, it’s special not only for me, but for everyone at Bennett. We’ve been very fortunate the last few years to get our Bennett Chevrolet to Victory Lane and we are going to do our best once again this weekend. There is a lot of pressure to perform well for them, but I expect us to run up front, lead laps and be in contention at the end of the race. Bennett has been a huge supporter of my Xfinity Series career and it’s an honor to represent them on a weekly basis. To have a huge crowd of over 500 Bennett truck drivers, employees, and family members on site – at both of our home tracks – is an honor. Our No. 21 team would really like to take home that Bennett race trophy on Saturday night.”

The Ambetter Health 400 at Atlanta Race Outlook

Photo by John Knittel for SpeedwayMedia.com

The NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) heads to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Ambetter Health 400 on February 23 at 3 p.m. ET on FOX. Michael McDowell won the pole for last year’s race in February with a lap of 178.844 mph (30.999 secs.) and again for the September race with a lap of 179.267 mph (30.926 secs.).

In February of 2024, Daniel Suárez held off NASCAR Cup Series champions Ryan Blaney and Kyle Busch to score a wild victory in the Ambetter Health 400 at Atlanta in a three-wide photo finish for the ages. He led twice for nine of the 260 laps, and Suárez emerged ahead of Blaney and Busch by a nose to claim his second NASCAR Cup Series career victory and snap a one-year winless drought.

In September 2024, Joey Logano qualified seventh and commenced the 2024 NCS Playoffs on a high note by fending off the field in overtime to win the Quaker State 400. Logano led twice for nine of 266 over-scheduled laps, held off the field on the race’s final two laps, and raced his way into the Playoff’s Round of 12. If Logano wins, it will be the first time a driver has won back-to-back NASCAR Cup Series events at the mile-and-a-half track since Jimmie Johnson did it in the fall race of 2015 and the spring race in 2016.

The Statesville, N.C.-based team hopes to expand its footprint in the NASCAR Xfinity Series by running two cars throughout the season with its No. 76 AM Racing entry.

● Future Focused: In September, AM Racing announced that NASCAR Cup Series winner Harrison Burton would join the family-owned operation to pilot the team’s No. 25 Ford Mustang, beginning with the 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series season-opener from Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway on February 15, 2025.

Burton, a native of Huntersville, N.C., has been a staple in the NASCAR Cup Series for the past three seasons but will embrace a return to the NASCAR Xfinity Series and continue his relationship as a driver of the Ford blue oval.

Burton, 24, arrives on the scene at AM Racing after a 108-race stint driving for the historic Wood Brothers Racing team.

● Best with DEX: DEX (DEX Imaging) will continue its long-standing partnership with Harrison Burton and join AM Racing for several races this season, including Saturday afternoon’s Bennett Transportation & Logistics 250 at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway.

DEX Imaging is the largest independent dealer of document imaging technology in the United States. ● Harrison Burton NASCAR Xfinity Series Atlanta Motor Speedway Stats: Saturday afternoon’s Bennett Transportation & Logistics 250 will mark Burton’s fourth Xfinity Series start at the hybrid 1.5-mile superspeedway.

In his previous three Xfinity Series starts at Atlanta Motor Speedway, he has delivered two top-five and two top-10 finishes, including a Xfinity track-best of third in the 2021 edition of the Echo Park 250 driving for Joe Gibbs Racing.

Additionally, he has six NASCAR Cup Series starts at Atlanta, including a top-10 finish in 2022 and one prior Atlanta start in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series.

● Harrison Burton NASCAR Xfinity Series Career Stats: Entering Atlanta, Burton has 76 career NASCAR Xfinity Series starts to his credit with four wins, 26 top-five and 50 top-10 finishes, and a championship best result of eighth, twice in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

Burton’s four wins in the NASCAR Xfinity Series occurred during the 2020 season. Burton, the son of former NASCAR driver and current television analyst Jeff Burton, captured the checkered flag at Auto Club (Calif.) Speedway, Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway and Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, respectively.

In addition to the 76 Xfinity Series starts, he has achieved 109 NASCAR Cup Series starts, 40 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series starts and 52 career starts across the ARCA Menards Series platforms.

● Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway | United Rentals 300 Race Recap: The 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series kicked off with the United Rentals 300 with Burton looking to secure a strong finish in his AM Racing debut.

After Mother Nature canceled qualifying earlier in the day, Burton was on the move to the front of the field in his No. 25 Dead On Tools Ford Mustang when a multicar accident broke out on lap six.

Burton received minimal body damage in the incident but remained a competitor in the race.

Crew chief Danny Efland’s pit strategy put Burton at the front of the pack during Stage 2.

Thanks to Burton’s grit and determination, a strong but damaged race car performed well in the draft.

In NASCAR overtime, Burton survived a multi-car crash on the frontstretch to earn a strong sixth-place finish, earning the AM Racing team its first top-10 finish in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at the 2.5-mile superspeedway.

● AM Minute: Last weekend, the AM Racing team had a busy weekend at the “World Center of Racing.”

In addition to the team’s NASCAR Xfinity Series team being in action, the team also participated in the ARCA Menards Series season opener at Daytona on Saturday afternoon with rookie Kole Raz aboard the No. 32 Cyclum NextGen Travel Centers Ford Mustang.

After starting the race eighth after Mother Nature adjusted the series-opening race schedule, Raz maintained a top-10 pace throughout the high attrition Chili’s Ride the Dente 200.

When the checkered flag waved, Raz finished a strong sixth but was cleaned out after the checkered flag after another driver was not paying attention and triggered a three-car accident.

Thankfully, Raz’s race car suffered mainly body damage to what was an extremely clean race car when he captured an impressive performance in his superspeedway ARCA debut.

The ARCA Menards Series resumes action at Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway on Fri., March 7, 2025.

Boost Your Dodge Ram: 8 Proven Ways to Maximise Performance

Photo by Jakub Pabis at pexels.com

Looking to squeeze more power, efficiency, and responsiveness out of your Dodge Ram? Whether you’re hauling heavy loads, hitting the open road, or just want a more exhilarating drive, there are plenty of ways to elevate your truck’s performance. With the right upgrades, you’ll not only feel the difference but enjoy every mile that much more. Curious about where to start?

1. Tuner for Dodge Ram Trucks – Unlock Hidden Potential

One of the easiest and most effective ways to improve your Dodge Ram’s performance is by installing a tuner from racemeofficial.com. A tuner recalibrates your truck’s engine control unit (ECU), allowing you to optimise various settings like fuel-to-air ratio, ignition timing, and throttle response. With the right tuning, you’ll notice gains in horsepower, torque, and fuel efficiency. Many tuners also offer different modes for towing, daily driving, or performance, letting you customise your Ram’s behaviour to suit your needs. Plus, you can often monitor engine parameters in real-time, helping you stay on top of your truck’s health.

2. Cold Air Intake – Breathe Easier, Drive Better

Upgrading to a cold air intake system allows your engine to breathe more freely, which can lead to noticeable improvements in horsepower and throttle response. By drawing in cooler, denser air, the engine burns fuel more efficiently, giving you that extra kick when you hit the accelerator. You’ll not only feel the difference in performance but may also notice a more aggressive engine sound. Installation is usually straightforward, making this a popular choice for those seeking a quick and effective upgrade.

3. Performance Exhaust System – Let It Roar and Flow

Replacing the stock exhaust with a performance exhaust system can significantly improve your Ram’s airflow. Better exhaust flow reduces backpressure, allowing the engine to expel gases more efficiently, which translates to increased power and improved fuel economy. Aside from the performance boost, you’ll also enjoy a deeper, more robust exhaust note. If you tow regularly, a performance exhaust can help keep engine temperatures in check under heavy loads, further enhancing your truck’s capability.

4. Upgraded Suspension – Smooth Ride, Better Control

A performance-oriented suspension upgrade can dramatically enhance how your Dodge Ram handles on and off the road. High-quality shocks and springs improve ride comfort, reduce body roll, and offer better stability during cornering or towing. Whether you’re hitting rough trails or cruising on the highway, an upgraded suspension system ensures a smoother and more controlled driving experience. If you’re into off-roading, consider a lift kit combined with upgraded components to improve ground clearance and ruggedness.

5. High-Performance Tires – Grip Where It Counts

Tires play a massive role in your truck’s performance. Upgrading to high-performance tires can enhance grip, handling, and braking, all of which make your Dodge Ram more responsive. If you frequently drive in challenging conditions, consider all-terrain or mud-terrain tires for improved traction. On the other hand, if you’re mostly on the road, performance street tires can boost stability and fuel efficiency. No matter what you choose, quality tires tailored to your driving style make a noticeable difference.

6. Upgraded Brakes – Stop with Confidence

Performance isn’t just about speed and power; being able to stop quickly and safely is just as crucial. Upgraded brake components like larger rotors, high-performance pads, and stainless steel brake lines can vastly improve stopping power and reduce brake fade, especially when towing or driving aggressively. With better brakes, you’ll not only enhance safety but also improve overall driving confidence.

7. Throttle Response Controller – Sharpen Your Acceleration

If you’ve noticed a delay when pressing the accelerator, a throttle response controller can fix that. This device improves the responsiveness of your throttle, making acceleration feel quicker and more immediate. It’s particularly helpful if you’ve added bigger tires or upgraded other performance components. Installation is typically simple, and you can adjust settings to match your driving preferences, whether you want a more aggressive response or a smoother, more controlled acceleration.

8. Forced Induction – Turbochargers and Superchargers for Maximum Power

For those seeking substantial power gains, adding a turbocharger or supercharger can dramatically transform your Dodge Ram’s performance. These systems force more air into the engine, allowing it to burn more fuel and produce significantly more horsepower and torque. While this is a more advanced and costly upgrade, the results are hard to beat. Forced induction is ideal if you want to turn your Ram into a serious performance machine, capable of handling heavy towing, off-roading, or just delivering jaw-dropping acceleration.

Ready to Transform Your Ram?

Whether you’re aiming for more power, better handling, or just a more enjoyable ride, these upgrades offer plenty of ways to make your Dodge Ram perform at its best. Start with a simple tuner or cold air intake, and work your way up to more advanced modifications as your budget and needs evolve. The road ahead is yours to conquer—make sure your Ram is up to the task.

Arrow McLaren promotes Tony Kanaan to team principal; Kevin Thimjon named team president for 2025 IndyCar season

Arrow McLaren announced the promotion of Tony Kanaan as the organization’s team principal while also naming Kevin Thimjon as the organization’s president heading into the 2025 NTT IndyCar Series season.

The news comes 10 days prior to the commencement of the 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES at the Streets of St. Petersburg for the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg that is scheduled to occur next Sunday, March 2.

Under his new title as team principal, Kanaan, the 2013 Indianapolis 500 champion, will oversee Arrow McLaren’s driver and team development along with key commercial relationships. Kanaan, a native of Salvador, Brazil, who also claimed the 2004 IndyCar Series championship, was previously Arrow McLaren’s special advisor and deputy team principal over the previous two seasons. He made his 389th and final IndyCar start with the organization during the 2023 Indy 500, where he finished 16th.

Overall, Kanaan accumulated 17 race victories, 13 poles, 79 podiums, 4,077 laps led and an average-finishing result of 10.8 through 27 years with at least one start in IndyCar competition. He along with two-time Indy 500 champion Juan Pablo Montoya were named Class of 2024 inductees for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame in January. Both will be formally inducted on May 23, two days before the 109th running of the Indy 500.

“A lot has happened since my last Indy 500 less than two years ago, to say the least,” Kanaan said. “I’ve embraced every opportunity to grow with the team and I’m excited to officially step into the team principal role, and having Kevin join to take on the business side of our team is part of our winning strategy. We’re always looking for good people and talent to make the team stronger, and he and I will work well together.”

Meanwhile, Thimjon joins Arrow McLaren as the organization’s president after previously working in leadership roles at Core BTS, Lids Sports Group and Just Marketing International (JMI). His roles will include managing the team’s business operations involving administration, commercial strategy and finance while also being a member of McLaren Racing’s executive team.

“I’m looking forward to joining Arrow McLaren and getting back into motorsport,” Thimjon said. “[CEO] Zak [Brown] and I worked together at JMI for several years, so it will be great to work with him again and help grow a team and brand that has a lot of unlocked potential beyond the success it’s already realized. I have no doubt that Tony will get me up to speed on all things racing while we build the business with the strong team in place.”

The promotion of Kanaan and the addition of Thimjon excites Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, as he strives to make Arrow McLaren competitive for the upcoming IndyCar season.

“I’m excited to welcome Kevin to Arrow McLaren and our leadership group,” Brown said. “Kevin and I have stayed close since our days together at JMI, and he’s the right fit to set the team up for long-term success. A few months ago, I said if we can find extra horsepower to add to the team, we’ll add it, and Kevin is the perfect example of that. Under Tony’s leadership, the team has been moving forward quickly, and he and Kevin will work well together to keep that positive momentum up. Our sights are set on how we stabilize and grow strategically while competing at the top.”

Arrow McLaren is coming off its second consecutive season fielding three full-time entries and a fourth for the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This past season, Pato O’Ward steered the organization’s No. 5 Dallara-Chevrolet entry to three victories and a fifth-place result in the final standings, while Alexander Rossi recorded a single podium result and 11 top-10 finishes en route to a 10th-place result in the standings while driving the No. 7 entry. In addition, the No. 6 entry settled in 18th place in the Entrant standings after being split between Callum Ilott, Theo Pourchaire, and Nolan Siegel while Kyle Larson finished 18th while driving the No. 17 entry in his first Indy 500 start.

For the 2025 season, O’Ward and Ilott will pilot Arrow McLaren’s Nos. 5 and 6 Chevrolet entries, respectively, as full-time competitors. They will compete alongside Christian Lundgaard, the latter of whom replaces Rossi in the No. 7 Chevrolet entry.

Meanwhile, Larson will pilot the No. 17 Chevrolet entry for his second consecutive Indy 500 bid on May 25 during Memorial Day weekend. The event will serve as Larson’s first of two prestigious motorsports events he will attempt to compete in in a single day. He will then travel to Charlotte Motor Speedway and compete in the Coca-Cola 600 with Hendrick Motorsports.

The 2025 NTT INDYCAR Series season for Arrow McLaren is scheduled to commence on the Streets of St. Petersburg, Florida, for the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. The event is scheduled for next Sunday, March 2, and air at noon ET on FOX.
