Delaney Gray secures 2024 INEX North Carolina Bandolero Bandit championship

Delaney Gray has been officially named the 2024 INEX North Carolina Bandolero Bandit champion.

LA GRANGE, N.C. (Dec. 4, 2024) – For the first time in INEX history, a female competitor has captured the North Carolina Bandolero Bandit state championship.

That competitor is 12-year-old Delaney Gray, who secured the state championship thanks to an incredible season that included 21 victories and 31 top five finishes. Her wins came at a variety of tracks, including Southern National Motorsports Park and New River All American Speedway.

“Seeing Delaney’s hard work and determination pay off is extremely gratifying,” said Brandon Gray, Delaney’s father. “She has to work extremely hard to race at a competitive level and it’s simply amazing to see what God is doing in her life and the lessons she is learning. She has a big heart and a ton of drive to be successful and she has a great mentor in her crew chief, Blaise Brinkley.

“Blaise has helped her development to a point she could contend for a state title. This is just as much his as it is hers. I’m so proud of what they have accomplished together.”

The INEX North Carolina Bandolero Bandit state championship is a monumental achievement for Gray, who began her racing career just a few short years ago.

Last year she ranked fourth in the North Carolina Bandolero Bandit standings after scoring 11 wins, which gave her all the motivation she needed to pursue the championship again during the 2024 season.

“Being crowned the North Carolina Bandit champion is an honor and my largest accomplishment so far,” said Delaney Gray. “Being the first female to accomplish this in my age bracket is so amazing. I’m so thankful God has blessed me the ability and platform to perform at a high level. I hope that I can encourage other your females to follow their dreams and show them that hard work pays off.

“I owe a big thank you to my Mom and Dad, crew chief Blaise Brinkley, Matt and Zach for always believing in me, even when I didn’t believe in myself. I want to Thank my sisters Emalyn and Olivia for traveling all over and giving up valuable family time for me to race. Mr. Mike Gordon, I do not know what else to say. Words cannot express how grateful I am that you took me in, treated me like family and gave us bad fast cars. And finally, Miss Tonya from MPM Marketing, you are much more than my agent, you are a life coach, mentor and a dear friend to me.”

Delaney is already looking forward to the upcoming 2025 season. Her plans will be announced soon.

Delaney would like to thank her family and all of her sponsors, including Carolina Family Pool & Patio, MPM Marketing, Bob’s Muffler Shop of Goldsboro, W.G. Speeks Inc., Carolina Mobile Refrigeration, K1 RaceGear and Swift Springs.

Are Track Owners Liable for Spectator or Driver Injuries?

Motorsports bring in huge crowds and plenty of adrenaline, especially races at the legendary tracks. But with the excitement comes risk—for both drivers and fans. Injuries at racetracks aren’t uncommon, and when they happen, figuring out who’s responsible can get complicated. Questions about liability often come down to what the track owner did to keep people safe, how the accident happened, and whether the injured person played any role in what went wrong.

The Duty of Care Owed by Track Owners

Track owners have a responsibility to keep their property safe for everyone—drivers, pit crews, spectators, and staff. This is called their “duty of care,” and it means they need to take reasonable precautions to prevent accidents. What counts as “reasonable” can vary, especially in a sport as unpredictable as racing, but it generally comes down to addressing obvious risks and doing what’s necessary to keep people safe.

Responsibilities to Spectators

Spectators are considered “invitees” under premises liability law, meaning the track owner owes them a high standard of care. This includes:

  1. Maintaining Structural Safety: Ensuring grandstands, fences, and other infrastructure are properly constructed and maintained to prevent collapses or failures.
  2. Providing Barriers: Installing and maintaining protective barriers, such as catch fences, to minimize the risk of debris or vehicles entering spectator areas.
  3. Enforcing Safety Protocols: Implementing clear safety measures, such as restricting access to high-risk zones and posting warning signs in hazardous areas.

Responsibilities to Drivers and Participants

The duty owed to drivers is more nuanced. Unlike spectators, drivers willingly participate in a high-risk activity, but track owners must still ensure the facility is reasonably safe for its intended use, including the following:

  1. Maintaining the Racing Surface: Addressing hazards like loose debris, poor drainage, or uneven pavement that could lead to accidents.
  2. Inspecting Safety Features: Regularly testing and repairing barriers, tire walls, and runoff areas designed to minimize the impact of crashes.
  3. Enforcing Rules and Regulations: Requiring participants to follow safety protocols, such as wearing protective gear and ensuring vehicles meet safety standards.

Assumption of Risk in Motorsports

Participants and spectators generally accept some level of risk when attending or competing in motorsports events. This legal principle, known as “assumption of risk,” can limit a track owner’s liability.

Spectator Waivers

Many tracks include disclaimers on tickets or require spectators to sign waivers acknowledging the risks involved in motorsports events. Waivers may protect track owners from liability for injuries caused by normal risks, such as noise or flying debris, but would not shield them from negligence or unsafe conditions they could have prevented.

Example:

If a piece of debris strikes a spectator despite properly maintained fences, the track owner may avoid liability due to the assumption of risk. However, the owner could be held responsible if the injury occurs because the fence was poorly maintained or inadequately designed.

Driver Waivers

Drivers sign waivers before entering races to acknowledge the risks involved in motorsports, which limit a track owner’s liability for injuries caused by typical racing-related dangers. However, waivers do not protect track owners from claims involving gross negligence, such as failing to fix known safety issues like damaged barriers or hazardous track conditions.

Factors That Can Impact Liability

Determining liability for injuries at a racetrack involves examining several factors.

Negligence by the Track Owner

Negligence occurs when a track owner fails to take reasonable steps to ensure safety. For example:

  • Failing to repair damaged barriers.
  • Ignoring drainage issues that create unsafe track conditions.
  • Overlooking structural problems with seating areas.

If negligence can be proven, the track owner may be held liable for resulting injuries.

Contributory Negligence

In some cases, the injured party’s actions may contribute to their injuries. For example, a spectator who disregards warnings and enters a restricted area assumes higher responsibility. Courts may reduce compensation based on the degree of fault attributed to the injured party.

State Laws

State laws also influence liability. Some states, like Florida, apply comparative negligence rules, which allow injured parties to recover damages even if they are partially at fault. The amount awarded is reduced based on the percentage of fault.

Steps Injured Parties Can Take

Individuals injured at a racetrack should take the following steps to protect their rights:

  1. Document the Incident: Take photos of the injury, the scene, and any contributing factors, such as broken fences or poorly maintained areas.
  2. Seek Medical Attention: Obtain prompt treatment for injuries and keep detailed records of medical expenses.
  3. Consult an Attorney: Personal injury attorneys can evaluate the circumstances of the incident and determine whether the track owner’s negligence played a role.

Final Thoughts on Liability and Safety in Motorsports

When accidents happen, who’s responsible depends on whether the track owner did enough to prevent them. Safety upgrades, like stronger fences and reinforced seating, don’t just protect fans—they help tracks avoid lawsuits and keep the focus on the race.

Connor Mosack inks full-time Truck ride with McAnally-Hilgemann Racing for 2025 season

Photo by Ron Olds for SpeedwayMedia.com.

Connor Mosack has been named a full-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competitor for McAnally-Hilgemann Racing (MHR) for the 2025 season.

Mosack, a 25-year-old native from Charlotte, North Carolina, will be driving the No. 81 MHR Chevrolet Silverado RST and will be paired with crew chief Blake Bainbridge for his first full-time campaign in the series, where he will contend for the Rookie-of-the-Year title. In addition, Old World Industries and NAPA Nightvision will be sponsoring him for five Truck races, beginning at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March.

The news comes as Mosack is coming off an 11-race stint between the NASCAR Xfinity and Truck Series divisions, where he competed for JR Motorsports in the Xfinity circuit and between Niece Motorsports and Spire Motorsports in the Truck division. He also made five starts in the ARCA Menards Series between Pinnacle Racing Group and Sigma Performance Services, where he notched a victory at Kansas Speedway in May while driving for the former organization.

“I’m ecstatic to start 2025 with everybody at MHR and want to continue this team’s success in the playoffs,” Mosack said. “All four MHR teams had great performances this past year, so this is a big opportunity to race with a winning organization. It’s great to continue being part of Team Chevy and appreciate NAPA Nightvison and everyone at MHR for making this a reality. I’m looking forward to working with Blake and we want to become one of the weekly contenders, compete for wins, and lock ourselves in the playoffs.”

Mosack, who commenced his racing career competing in Legends cars and worked his way up to compete in CARS Tour and Late Models, made his Truck Series debut at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in July 2022, where he finished 34th while driving for Bret Holmes Racing. He made an additional Truck start at Bristol Motor Speedway two months later before he returned this past season for nine events. During the nine-race stint, he logged in his first four top-10 career results and notched a career-best third-place finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway in October.

To go along with 11 Truck starts to date, Mosack has also made a total of 28 starts in the Xfinity Series, where he notched three top-eight results and a career-best fifth-place run at Watkins Glen International in August 2023. The Charlotte native has also made 22 career starts in the ARCA Menards Series, four in the ARCA East division and two in the ARCA West division. Within the ARCA division, he claimed his first career victory at Kansas Speedway in September 2023 while driving for Joe Gibbs Racing and would double down both at Kansas and in the series this past May. He also recorded two ARCA poles, including the 2023 season opener at Daytona International Speedway.

Mosack’s addition to MHR adds another missing element to the organization’s 2025 Truck Series lineup as the driver will compete alongside teammates Tyler Ankrum and Daniel Hemric.

“I was impressed with the job Connor did last season and wanted him to be part of our lineup in 2025,” Bill McAnally, team owner of McAnally-Hilgemann Racing, added. “He showed he has the talent and commitment to compete and win at this level and we’re excited about the potential that he has joining our group. He and Blake will make a great pair and create opportunities for us to win races.”

With his plans for the 2025 season set, Connor Mosack’s first full-time campaign in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series division is set to commence at Daytona International Speedway on February 14 at 7:30 p.m. ET on FS1.

The seasoned customer squad lifted every title in the GT3 category’s debut season in the WEC. Proton Competition runs operations in the Asian Le Mans Series, the European Le Mans Series and the North American IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. As part of this, Michelle Gatting from Denmark will be promoted to the Porsche contracted driver squad. The alliance between Porsche Motorsport and Iron Dames is set to continue for several years. Plans are already in the pipeline for the project to be closely linked to the German sports car manufacturer’s successful junior development pyramid. The aim is to link the national support programs in the Porsche one-make cups, the central Junior Program of Porsche Motorsport and the recently introduced “Iron Dames Young Talents” initiative. Ideally, this creates a path for young talent from karting to top tier racing.

“Porsche stands for a culture of equal opportunities and diversity. Encouraging women to get involved in motorsport and then supporting them in open competition is something we value highly. In this context, we’ve seen that the Iron Dames project is well-structured and was very successful in recent years,” explains Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President Porsche Motorsport. “Since our customer teams have already celebrated victories with the Iron Dames, we’re now taking the next logical step. We’re very confident that the collaboration in all series will reap excellent results and we can highlight our contribution to supporting female racing drivers with victories and podium finishes.”

Deborah Mayer, Founder of the Iron Dames Project, says: “It’s an honor to join forces with such a renowned brand as Porsche Motorsport, who share the same goal of leaving a lasting legacy in motorsport while driving forward progress. The Iron Dames Project has always been rooted in the power of dreams to overcome barriers. Our journey is not just about competing at the highest level, but also about proving that the door to the racing world is open to everyone with passion and determination. From 2025, we aim to set new benchmarks together, to empower women in endurance racing, support upcoming female drivers, change perceptions and inspire the next generation. ‘Porsche X Iron Dames’ provides more than a fresh impetus for women in motorsport, it sends a powerful message that every dream is worth pursuing, no matter how ambitious. I look forward to seeing Célia, Michelle, Rahel and Sarah racing Porsche cars all over the world again and to seeing the ‘Every Dream Matters’ movement flourish with them.”

In recent years, Porsche customer teams have already enjoyed successful outings with the Iron Dames. In 2023, Gatting, Frey and Bovy celebrated a milestone behind the wheel of the Porsche 911 RSR at the WEC season finale in Bahrain, where they were the first female trio to clinch a class win in the World Endurance Championship. Last season, the three racing drivers jointly won the LMGT3 class of the 4-hour race of the European Le Mans Series in Imola (Italy). Last month, Spaniard Marta García completed a successful test in the Porsche 99X Electric of the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team. The 24-year-old is part of the Iron Dames’ sponsorship program.

GASPER WINS WESTERN STATES LIGHTNING SPRINT TITLE IN BAILEY SCHWEITZER TRIBUTE CAR

David Gasper won the 8th Annual Western States Lightning Sprint Championship. Scott Thomas/SC Motorsports Media Photo

(Torrance, CA, November 29, 2024) Two-time California Lightning Sprint Car Series champion David Gasper returned to his open-wheel roots and captured the Western States Lightning Sprint Car Championship last Wednesday night at the Bakersfield Speedway.  Added significance to the triumph was the fact that he was driving a tribute car for Bailey Schweitzer.  Bailey, the daughter of Bakersfield promoter Scott Schweitzer and his wife Crissy, lost her life in the October 2017 Route 91 Harvest Music Festival tragedy in Las Vegas.   While Gasper was winning the main event, fourth-place finisher Bobby Michnowicz sewed up his second CLS championship in a row and the seventh of his illustrious career.

Gasper, who resides in Goleta, California, was a late addition to the California Lightning Sprint Car portion of the show. Broedy Graham had been wheeling the Mike Schweitzer #41 in 2024. However, his family recently purchased a full midget, and he was running the USAC National Midget portion of the program. Schweitzer then turned to USAC/CRA star A.J. Bender. The duo had success in the past and were poised to do so last week. However, when the race was delayed 24 hours due to a couple of days of heavy rain, Bender could not make it on Wednesday. Thus, Schweitzer called talented Gasper. The personable 19-year-old had just sewn up the USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year award and he gladly accepted the offer.

Fifteen cars showed up for the final race of the California Lightning Sprints 30th season. Michnowicz, who has been racing at the “Okie Bowl” for decades, laid down the fastest lap in qualifying at 13.100. Palmdale’s Eric Greco, who was the only driver with a mathematical chance of catching Michnowicz in the title chase, was second fastest at 13.345. Camarillo’s Cody Nigh was third quick with a 13.414. Peter Benker of Alpine was fourth at 13.622 and Bakersfield local Leland Day rounded out the top five with a time of 13.722.

Torrance, California’s “Rockstar” Jon Robertson, who came into the night tied with Nigh for fourth in the standings, captured the first six-lap heat race ahead of Michnowicz and Day. The last CLS heat race of the season went to California Highway Patrol Officer Jeff Dyer of Yucca Valley. Fillmore’s Connor Speir came under the checkers in second, with Dyer’s 17-year-old son, Seth, third.

Speir captured the six-car, four-lap dash that would determine the starting position for the first three rows in the main event. Thirteen-year-old Zate Legend of Riverside, Gasper, Greco, Michnowicz and Day placed second through sixth.

When the green flag kicked off the start of the final main event of the CLS season, Speir pushed his bright red 57 into the lead. However, third-place starting Gasper rolled the bottom and inched ahead in turn two. In an exciting opening lap, Speir, on the outside, inched ahead on the back chute. They were even through turns three and four, with Gasper leading by a wheel as they closed the first go-around. Greco was not far behind in third.

If lap one was a thriller, the second circuit was no slouch either. Speir changed lines and went to the bottom off turn two. Once again, the young drivers were side by side coming off turn four with Gasper again at the point when they completed the lap.

Finally, Gasper put some distance between himself and Speir on lap three. Greco was still running third. Wily veteran Michnowicz moved up to fourth on lap four when he passed Legend. At that point, things tamed down a bit and stayed status quo through lap nine before the exciting switch was again turned to full volume.

Gasper caught the first lapped car and could not get past. That allowed Speir and Greco to close in dramatically. Gasper finally got past the lapper and opened up his lead once again, but Speir was not going to go down without a fight. Going into turn three on lap 14, he stayed on the throttle until deep in the corner and nearly pulled even with Gasper. Going into turn one on the next go around, he took another peek at the inside, but Gasper held him at bay.

On lap 15, Speir again ran it in hard on the inside of turn three. Simultaneously, Gasper slipped up the track and Speir took full advantage. Coming off turn four, he moved up a lane and pilfered the lead. However, he was dealt the same fate Gasper had been dealing with. Another lapped car. Speir’s tenure at the point was short-lived as Gasper shot into the lead, leaving Speir behind the lapped car.

Speir was staying within striking distance of Gasper, whose car was bunny-hopping through the corners. The race went caution-free until Seth Dyer slowed and stopped on the back chute on lap 18. That brought out the only caution of the race. That was good news for the pace setters as it meant they would be free of lapped traffic the remainder of the way.

For the last restart of 2024, Gasper was in the lead with Speir on his push bar. In the third spot was Greco, with Michnowicz and Legend making up the remainder of the top five. Gasper got a tremendous restart and zoomed away from the pack. From that point on, he went unchallenged. At the checkers, he had a 2.542 advantage over Speir. Greco placed third, with Michnowicz, the champion again, coming home fourth. Legend finished fifth.

Nigh, who moved from 11th to finish eighth, was the hard charger in the 25-lap race.

“I had to work for that one,” the happy winner told the big crowd on hand and fans worldwide who were watching on Flo Racing. “That is the hardest I have worked in a long time. The traffic was tough. You have got to pick them off one at a time. I heard and saw Connor down there a couple times. I had to minimize the mistakes as it is easy to make mistakes on this track right now. Hats off to the Bakersfield Speedway guys for getting this one in tonight. It has been wet at every track the swing has gone to these two weeks. Happy to park this Schweitzer #41 in victory lane. This was the race where I started my circle track career. So, it is cool to be able to come back and run it and have a little better luck this time.”

“It is really nice,” champion Michnowicz told infield announcer Drake York and the crowd when asked what it meant to add to his legacy with another championship. “I am just really glad that the California Lightning Sprint Series has a winged series that old guys like me can come out and still race. It is the best bang you can get for your buck. We have help from Super Shox, Outlaw Wings, Pflum & Wagner and Wendy (Michnowicz wife and crew chief). She is the best. Without her, I could not do anything.”

“This is by far the most memorable main event that we/I have ever won,” car owner Mike Schweitzer said. We wanted to win so bad with Bailey’s name on the side. It literally brought tears to my eyes when we pulled off the win. I cannot say enough about working with David Gasper. Such a great attitude. Just talking and asking him what he thinks we need and him telling us to just do what we do.”

Marketing partners on Schweitzer’s #41 winning car are Abacus, TRB, Bil Mell Dot Com Real Estate Services, Scott & Crissy Schweitzer, 3n1 Motorsports, Five Eight Designs, M-P Environmental, Elite Signs LLC, Oil Well Service, Hot Tod Engineering, Salinas Paint & Body, Mike Allen with CR Rods, Jack and the crew at CSI Shocks, and Rod End Supply.

The CLS would like to thank Iron Alliance Engineering Inc. and the “Italian Stallion,” PJ Benedetti for sponsoring the heat races and Hard Charger awards on the night.

Ride on Time: Eight Auto Repairs You Should Never Delay

Owning a car is a privilege that comes with a lot of responsibilities. Beyond the convenience of having a personal vehicle, maintaining it is crucial for your safety and others on the road. Routine servicing ensures your car operates at its best, while timely repairs prevent minor issues from escalating into costly disasters. Ignoring warning signs can compromise safety, reduce performance, and even lead to legal liabilities.

This article highlights eight essential auto repairs you should never delay.

1. Brake Pads and Rotors: Don’t Ignore the Screech

Brakes are vital for controlling your vehicle, yet many drivers often don’t consider checking them until problems arise. Signs like squeaking, grinding, or reduced responsiveness indicate worn-out brake pads or damaged rotors. Neglecting these symptoms can lead to brake failure, putting you and others in danger.

Brake pads are designed to wear down over time, but ignoring them can damage the rotors, leading to more expensive repairs. Vibrations while braking may signal warped rotors, which compromise stopping power. Regularly inspect your braking system and replace components as needed. A well-maintained braking system ensures your car stops when it should, preventing accidents and keeping you and others safe on the road.

1. Seat Belts: Your Lifesaving Line of Defense

Seat belts are not just a legal requirement—they are your first line of protection in an accident. A properly functioning seat belt can prevent severe injuries and even save lives during collisions. However, if the seat belt pretensioner—the mechanism that tightens the belt during sudden stops—fails, your safety is at risk.

Seat belt pretensioners are sophisticated devices that require professional attention when they malfunction. The seat belt pretensioner repair process often involves resetting or replacing the pretensioner, which ensures the belt tightens correctly in emergencies. DIY attempts might worsen the problem or compromise the entire restraint system. Whether the issue stems from a damaged retractor, frayed webbing, or a sensor malfunction, never delay getting it fixed. Your seat belt should always be in top-notch condition for your safety.

3. Engine Oil Leaks: Small Drips, Big Problems

Have you ever spotted a few drops of oil beneath your car and not given it much thought? That’s the wrong approach. What might not seem alarming could signal a leak that can escalate into a severe issue. Engine oil lubricates and cools the engine’s moving parts, preventing excessive friction and overheating. A leak can cause low oil levels, leading to increased wear and potential engine damage.

Common causes of oil leaks include worn gaskets, seals, or a damaged oil pan. Addressing leaks promptly will save you from costly repairs while helping avoid hazardous situations like fires caused by oil dripping onto hot engine components. Regularly check your oil levels and look for puddles under your car.

4. Tire Damage and Wear: Rolling with Risk

Your tires are the only point of contact between your car and the road, making their condition critical to safety. Worn-out or damaged tires can reduce grip, increase stopping distances, and raise the risk of blowouts. Uneven wear, bulges, or punctures are signs that your tires need attention.

Driving on compromised tires, especially in poor weather conditions, significantly increases your risk of an accident. Check your tire tread depth regularly and ensure proper inflation. Rotate your tires as recommended to promote even wear, and replace them when necessary.

5. Faulty Headlights and Taillights: Driving Blind at Night

Your vehicle’s lights serve two essential purposes: helping you see and ensuring others can see you. Faulty headlights or taillights can make night driving hazardous and reduce your visibility in poor weather. Dim or burnt-out bulbs not only endanger you but also make you a target for traffic violations.

Replacing bulbs is usually quick and inexpensive, but the impact is immense. Ensure your lights are bright and clean, and inspect them periodically for functionality.

6. Malfunctioning Airbags: A Hidden Danger

Airbags are one of the most critical components of your vehicle’s safety system. They are designed to deploy in milliseconds during a collision, cushioning you from the impact and reducing the likelihood of serious injury. However, if your airbag warning light is illuminated, it signals a potential malfunction that you cannot afford to ignore. You don’t actually want to wait for an accident, do you?

Common airbag issues include sensor problems, wiring faults, or previous deployment that hasn’t been reset. Delaying this repair could mean your airbags fail to deploy in an accident or, worse, deploy unexpectedly while driving! Airbag repairs should always be handled by a certified professional to ensure the system is functional and compliant with safety standards. Your life—and the lives of your passengers—depends on it.

7. Cracked or Chipped Windshield: A Clear Risk

Your windshield does more than shield you from wind and debris; it’s also a structural component that supports the roof and helps airbags deploy correctly. A small crack or chip might seem harmless, but it can quickly expand due to vibrations, temperature changes, or additional impact.

Driving with a damaged windshield compromises your visibility and weakens the structural integrity of your vehicle. Many cracks can be repaired if addressed early, but larger or spreading damage often requires a complete replacement. Don’t wait until the damage worsens or obstructs your view—prioritize repairing or replacing your windshield promptly to ensure a safe and clear line of sight.

8. Suspension Issues: Bumpy Rides Ahead

Your car’s suspension system absorbs shocks, provides stability, and ensures a smooth ride. If you notice excessive bouncing, uneven tire wear, or difficulty steering, it’s a sign of suspension trouble. Faulty shocks, struts, or springs can make your vehicle difficult to control, especially during sharp turns or sudden stops.

A damaged suspension not only affects comfort but also compromises safety by reducing traction and braking efficiency. Ignoring these issues can lead to further damage to your vehicle’s frame and tires.

Maintain a Smooth Ride!

Your vehicle is more than a machine; it’s your partner in daily life. Staying proactive with essential repairs ensures safety and comfort. On the other hand, neglecting these repairs can lead to costly consequences, both financially and in terms of safety. By staying vigilant and addressing problems as they arise, you extend the life of your car while protecting your own life and the lives of everyone on the road. Take care of your ride, and it will take care of you!

Joe Gibbs Racing reveals driver-crew chief pairings for No. 54 Cup and Xfinity teams in 2025

Photo by Tim Jarrold for SpeedwayMedia.com.

Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) revealed its realigned driver-crew chief lineup for the organization’s No. 54 teams between the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series divisions for the 2025 season.

Tyler Allen, who was initially set to crew chief Taylor Gray and the No. 54 JGR Toyota Supra team in the Xfinity Series, has now been named crew chief for Ty Gibbs and the No. 54 JGR Toyota Camry XSE team in the Cup Series. As a result, veteran crew chief Jason Ratcliff will return atop the pit box to crew chief Gray for the latter’s first full-time Xfinity campaign in 2025.

The news comes 10 days after JGR announced that Chris Gayle, who was paired with Ty Gibbs over the previous two Cup seasons, would be paired with Denny Hamlin and the No. 11 Toyota team while Chris Gabehart, Hamlin’s former crew chief, would be promoted to work as the organization’s competition director.

“We take a lot of pride in our Xfinity Series program and the depth of talent that we have been able to maintain,” Joe Gibbs, owner and founder of Joe Gibbs Racing, said. “Tyler Allen was successful at the Cup level with us while working under Adam Stevens and was impressive last season in the Xfinity Series leading that 20 team to eight wins while working with a number of different drivers. We have an exciting young and talented team on the 54 car.”

Allen, who enters the 2025 season for his first year as a full-time crew chief in NASCAR’s premier series, spent seven seasons (2017-23) working as a race engineer under crew chief Adam Stevens. During the seven-year span, he was a part of the 2019 Cup Series championship with Adams and Kyle Busch. In addition, Allen served as an interim crew chief for a single Cup race for Christopher Bell and the No. 20 JGR Toyota team at Martinsville Speedway in October 2021, where Bell finished 17th.

This past season, Allen served as a first-year crew chief in the Xfinity Series, where he worked atop the pit box of JGR’s No. 20 Toyota team for 29 races and JGR’s No. 19 Toyota team for four races. Throughout the 33-race schedule, Allen notched eight victories between four competitors (Aric Almirola, Christopher Bell, John Hunter Nemechek and Ryan Truex) and led the No. 20 team to a runner-up result in the final Xfinity owner’s standings, all of which Allen strives to utilize the momentum and success from the Xfinity division over to the Cup Series that would enable both him and Ty Gibbs to contend for victories while also returning the No. 54 team back into the Playoffs.

“It’s an honor to be named crew chief for Ty Gibbs and the 54 Team as we head into the 2025 season,” Allen said. “This opportunity has been a dream of mine since starting here at JGR 10 years ago, and I’m thankful for the support and guidance I’ve received from my mentors, teammates, and everyone along the way. Ty has shown a lot of speed and potential the last two years, and I look forward to building on that experience to get the 54 car in victory lane.”

For JGR’s No. 54 team in the Xfinity Series, Ratcliff makes his return atop the pit box as a crew chief following a one-year absence. He initially retired from being a crew chief at the conclusion of the 2023 season and spent this past season working as a driver and team coordinator for JGR’s Xfinity and ARCA Menards Series operations. Since making his crew chief debut in the Xfinity Series in 2000, Ratcliff has notched 57 victories between seven competitors and the 2009 championship with Kyle Busch. He has also recorded 15 victories as a Cup Series crew chief, 14 of which occurred with Matt Kenseth and one with Joey Logano.

Overall, Gray, who was announced to drive for JGR for the 2025 Xfinity season on October 16, is set to become the 26th competitor to work at least one race with Ratcliff, the latter of whom intends to make Gray competitive for his first Xfinity campaign after he spent the previous two seasons competing in the Craftsman Truck Series for TRICON Garage.

“I’m thrilled to join Taylor and the 54 team for the 2025 season,” Ratcliff said. “After a year away from the track, I’m eager to return to the pit box every weekend. Taylor has the talent and determination to excel in NASCAR, and it’s our mission to help him achieve that success.”

“It is also exciting to have Jason Ratcliff back on the pit box in the Xfinity Series to work with Taylor Gray next season,” Gibbs added. “He has contributed so much to our organization over his career.”
