● Back to the Beginning: As Truex hits the track one final time as a fulltime driver in the NASCAR Cup Series Sunday at Phoenix Raceway, a familiar look will adorn his No. 19 Bass Pro Shops Camry that will take him and his fans back to where it all started. When Truex made his NASCAR Cup Series debut at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Oct. 31, 2004, it was also the debut of now longtime partner Bass Pro Shops in NASCAR’s top series with the New Jersey native. While the race itself did not turn out how he had hoped when an engine issue forced him to the sidelines early, the scheme from that day will always be remembered by Truex and Bass Pro Shops CEO Johnny Morris. This weekend at Phoenix, Truex will run that scheme one final time as a fulltime participant in the Cup Series, which will no doubt bring back memories of where it all began.

● The Finale: Following last weekend’s penultimate race at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, Truex arrives at Sunday’s 2024 season finale and final race of his fulltime Cup Series career in the No. 19 Toyota Camry XSE 10th in the driver standings.

● Ironman: Truex will be making his 684th consecutive Cup Series start inSunday’s Season Finale 500k at Phoenix. While it’s the longest streak among current drivers by a significant margin, Truex also sits among NASCAR’s all-time greats as far as consecutive starts go. Truex started the streak on Feb. 19, 2006, when he started the Daytona 500 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Only five drivers have amassed more consecutive starts than Truex – Rusty Wallace (697), Bobby Labonte (704), Kevin Harvick (784), Ricky Rudd (788), and the all-time record holder, Jeff Gordon (797).

● Truex has one win, six top-five finishes and 14 top-10s and has led a total of 259 laps in 35 career NASCAR Cup Series starts at Phoenix. Truex’s average Phoenix finish is 15.6.

● Truex notched his Phoenix victory in March 2021, when he led 64 laps en route to his first victory at the 1-mile desert oval.

● Looking for 35: Truex’s July 2023 win at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon was his most recent in the Cup Series, the 34th of his career, tying him with 2004 champion Kurt Busch for 25th on the all-time Cup Series win list.

● Ahead at this Stage: Truex has accumulated 64 stage wins since the beginning of the stage era in 2017. He is the only driver with 10 or more stage sweeps, with his latest sweep coming at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn in August 2023. Truex scored his fourth stage win of the season Sept. 15 at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International, leading the field across the line at the end of Stage 1.

Is there one word to sum up your career?

“Stressful? (Laughs). I don’t know, I’m not sure there’s one word. There are so many different emotions and things I’ve been through over the years. It’s been a roller coaster, there’s no question. Just thankful for everyone who has done so much for my career, there’s more than I could even begin to thank. I’m looking forward to celebrating a lot of those people this weekend. I’ll have some friends and family at Phoenix and I know a lot of people from Bass Pro Shops and Toyota will be there, as well. I’m thankful for so many people and hope we can celebrate with them during the weekend for all we have been able to do together.”

Do you view your career in two different parts?

“Yeah, I think certainly if you’re just looking at my Cup career, then yes. There was certainly a first half and a second half somewhere around the same number of years. But if you look at the rest of it, then no. If you look at my Xfinity years, growing up and running my dad’s cars and all of that, it’s all one. It’s all the same, so you have to take the good with the bad, I guess. Definitely had a lot of reality checks along the way.”

Did you ever think you’d accomplish all you have?

“I always dreamed I could. Always thought I could. But you know, in this sport and in life in general, that’s all just talk. So, it’s been fun to get it done a few times and be able to accomplish what we have during my career.”

As you wind down your final fulltime season, are you ready to stop racing or do you still feel like you have some racing left to do, even if it’s not in a fulltime capacity?

“I still want to race, I don’t think I want to completely stop going forward. I don’t know when and in what, but I’ll still try to have some fun. I still love racing and driving cars, just ready to not travel 40 weekends a year more than anything. That’s the only thing, just the travel and, every week, having to pick up and go again. So now I’ll be able to make a schedule, I can pick and choose when and where I go and I’m looking forward to that.”

What is the biggest challenge for you when racing at Phoenix?

Phoenix is very straightforward-looking, but the two ends are so different that it’s a big challenge to get your car working good, especially with this current car we have, we are shifting a bit. It’s definitely a fun place and it’s been really racy there the last couple of years and I enjoy going there. I think we’ve definitely improved at these flats tracks the last couple of years and I think we should be strong this weekend with our Bass Pro Shops Toyota.”

Let’s say you are in the lead on the final restart at Phoenix. What’s going through your mind?

“I think just getting a good jump and getting through turns one and two. That dogleg breeds opportunities to cut the corner. If you can get to turn one with a little bit of a cushion, you are in generally good shape, so it’s all about the restart there to be able to maintain the lead and be able to bring it home.”

LAS VEGAS (Nov. 5, 2024) – A day after winning the championship in the Congruity NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by LearnEV+, Jordan Lazic finished off the 2024 season on an incredible note, winning in the final round on Monday at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway as part of the Ford Performance NHRA Nationals.

The event was the final of 10 races in NHRA Pro Mod and the last of the category’s four-race “Road to the Championship” playoffs was powered by JBS Equipment.

The final round was delayed until Monday and Lazic made the most of it to cap off a dream weekend in his supercharged Bahrain 1 Racing Camaro. Mike Janis went red in the finals, handing the victory to Lazic, who went 5.729-seconds at 251.53 mph in the championship round.

Lazic clinched his first career world championship on Sunday in a winner-take-all semifinal against former world champion Kris Thorne. That made for a memorable day and on Monday, Lazic finished the job to pick up his first victory of the season and the second in his career.

“Mike is one of the baddest dudes out there and we knew we had to be crazy on the light,” Lazic said. “It’s a crazy weekend and this is just the crazy cherry on top. We tried to make a plan going in and it just worked out. To go .008 (on the starting line), you can’t ask for much more than, so we’re all just so excited. This is great.”

To reach the final round, Janis, a former world champion who qualified No. 1 in Las Vegas, got past Dmitry Samorukov, Ken Quartuccio and Mike Thielen.

The 2025 schedule for the Congruity NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series will be announced in the coming weeks.

● It’ll be the end of an era for Ryan Preece and Stewart-Haas Racing when the Berlin, Connecticut, native makes his 72nd and final NASCAR Cup Series start for the organization during Sunday’s season finale at Phoenix Raceway. Stewart-Haas announced on May 28 it would cease operations at the end of the season. Preece, the recently turned 34-year-old veteran of 186 Cup Series races began his run with Stewart-Haas at the outset of the 2023 season. In his 71 races as the driver of the No. 41 HaasTooling.com Ford Mustang Dark Horse, Preece has logged a pair of top-five finishes, seven top-10s and a pole position, with 151 laps led.

● Sunday’s 312-lap race around the 1-mile, desert oval will be Preece’s 11th NASCAR Cup Series start at Phoenix. Best of his previous 10 starts was his 12th-place finish in his first Phoenix start with Stewart-Haas in March 2023. He returned last November to post a 14th-place finish. Preece endured an eventful race in his most recent Phoenix outing this past March. After narrowly avoiding a accident on just the seventh lap of the race he made a relentless ascent, climbing from his 27th-place starting spot to as high as second during the final stage. But a 92-lap, green-flag run to close out the race thwarted the No. 41 team’s fuel strategy and necessitated a late-race pit stop, which left Preece and the team with an unsatisfying 23rd-place result.

● Outside of the NASCAR Cup Series, Preece has three NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at Phoenix with a best result of fifth in November 2018.

It was a little more than five months ago, May 28 to be exact, when Stewart-Haas Racing announced it would cease operations at the end of the season. That moment is nearly upon us with Phoenix serving as the season finale. What’s your takeaway from your time at Stewart-Haas, which began three years ago when you served as a reserve driver before being promoted to the No. 41 team in 2023?

“For me, the May, June, July months were tough, really tough, I think tough for everybody, tough for our team, but what I appreciate the most is my group of team members and that the guys haven’t quit. They haven’t quit and I think it’s shown. It’s almost built this thick skin layer on us because, when you look at late August, September, October, we’ve been strong. Have we been winning like we want to be? No. I don’t think our company is there. But I also think that we’ve persevered in times when everybody’s just like, ‘Well, **** it, we’re moving on to our next deal.’ Everybody here said, ‘We’ve got 10 more, we’ve got eight more, we’ve got six more, we’ve got four more.’ And not to just be done, but to try and finish on a note that we’re proud of. I think that’s the thing that I take away most from being at this organization, the group of people that we’ve been surrounded by, and the perseverance that each and every one of them has. You know, wherever they end up going, whatever team, they’re going to be lucky to have them because they’ve taken a tough time and made the most of it. And, as far as the team goes, I think those are the people that you want around you when you go to war. You don’t want somebody that’s going to run and hide. You want somebody who’s going to fight.”

What approach are you and the team taking this weekend at Phoenix?

“I feel like our strength as a company the last couple of years has been at the short tracks, and Phoenix falls under that category to us. In the last race at Phoenix, I had a car that I could drive to the front, but we just got on the wrong end of the fuel mileage game with the long, green-flag run at the end. The race before that, we had a top-15 car. Our approach is that, with the improvements that have been made, we can continue to take steps forward and consistently be where we want to be on performance, with us running up front. We’re always excited for the short tracks and want to run a clean race with a car that is able to do everything right, and end this thing on the highest note possible.”

Historically, Stewart-Haas has been particularly strong at Phoenix. How much more confidence does that give you and the No. 41 team this weekend?

“Obviously, it can only help everyone’s confidence and makes everyone more motivated to keep that going. We’ve constantly made gains with the Ford Mustang Dark Horse, and we’ve had a great history at Phoenix. We had some good moments in the spring race, so we expect to be even better this weekend with the progress we’ve been making with our cars.”

He also made his Cup Series debut here in 2019, making a total of two Phoenix Cup starts.
  • Niece Motorsports’ Phoenix Stats: Niece Motorsports drivers have combined to make a total of 19 NCTS starts at Phoenix Raceway since 2017.   • Rogers’ Phoenix Stats: Wally Rogers has called eight NCTS races held at Phoenix Raceway.   • Quoting Currey: This will be just the second time that you’ve raced this chassis, so how are you feeling heading into the weekend?

“We took this truck to Charlotte and it was pretty good before we got caught up in someone else’s misfortunes. I’ve got a couple of top-10 runs here in both the Truck and Xfinity Series, so that helps my confidence. Phoenix is just a place where if your stuff isn’t right, it tends to be really difficult to make advances. Luckily, we have 50 minutes of practice to get our truck dialed in. I think that’s something that we on the No. 41 team are really good at. When we’re given the opportunity to work on the truck, we can usually make it better. So, hopefully we can take advantage of that whole session and end the season on a high note.”

  • Quoting Rogers: Thoughts on competing at Phoenix Raceway:

“I enjoy Phoenix, it’s a track that races like a short mile-and-a-half since the reconfiguration. It’s challenging for crew chiefs due to the fact that one corner is so different than the other. Tire management, track position, and tire strategy are extremely important at this track.”

  • Mills’ Phoenix Stats: Matt Mills has made one prior NCTS start at Phoenix when he finished 21st in 2016. Mills made his Xfinity Series debut at this track in 2017 and later went on to make a total of seven series starts in the desert. His best NXS result came in the fall of 2019 when he crossed the line in 19th.
  • Shiplett’s Phoenix Stats: Mike Shiplett will call his first NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race at Phoenix on Friday night but has plenty of success here. Shiplett is a two-time pole winner at this track – once in the Cup Series with AJ Allmendinger in 2010 and once in the Xfinity Series with John Hunter Nemechek in 2018. In 13 NXS starts, Shiplett captured three top-fives and six top-10 finishes, including when he ran second with Cole Custer in the fall of 2019. Through 11 Cup Series races, Shiplett produced two top-10s – twice finishing ninth with Allmendinger in 2011 and with Custer in 2020.

Mills, who started the week off in the hospital, went back to work and had no issues behind the wheel. After qualifying 21st, Mills finished 22nd and 24th in both stages, and was able to take advantage of the free pass to drive into a top-20 result. The J.F. Electric / Utilitra team was credited with a 19th-place run.
  • Points Rundown: Following Mills’ 19th-place result at Martinsville, the driver of the No. 42 gained some ground in the championship points standings. “It’s been since 2016 since I last drove a truck here in Phoenix, and I haven’t raced anything here in a couple of years. Last time I was able to get some laps around this place was in the Xfinity car, and everywhere that we’ve been to this year I’ve thought the trucks handled very differently. We just have to take advantage of the long practice session and make some good adjustments to our piece as the track changes.”

  • Quoting Shiplett: How important is this race going to be when it comes to building momentum for over the offseason?

“Well, I think these last three races that we had this year are important in their own right, especially the last couple, since they’ll be some of the earliest races that we have on the schedule for 2025. I’m really looking forward to seeing what it’s like to drive one of them when we unload for practice on Thursday. Hopefully the added time will help us bring home solid finishes in both races.”

  • Quoting Leonard: Were you impressed with how quick Stefan was able to get up-to-speed in the simulator?

“Yeah, Stefan and I have worked together in the past. Him and I have done some work in the simulator before, so that relationship helped make everything easier starting from the beginning. Victory and world title for TOYOTA GAZOO Racing

Toyota City, Japan, Nov 5, 2024 – (JCN Newswire) – TOYOTA GAZOO Racing completed a thrilling fightback to overcome challenges and retain its FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) title when the 2024 season came to a dramatic conclusion in the 8 Hours of Bahrain.

Starting from one-two on the grid, and knowing a win would secure the manufacturers’ title, each car led at different points, but the team entered the final stages of the race with only one car on track, down in 10th place after suffering setbacks.

An incredible team effort and a dominant driving display saw Sébastien Buemi cut through the field to win the race in the #8 GR010 HYBRID he shares with Brendon Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa, securing the team’s sixth successive manufacturers’ World Championship, by six points from Porsche.

The #7 GR010 HYBRID had victory in its sights when it led at half distance, but a fuel pump issue forced Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Nyck de Vries into retirement. That ended the slim drivers’ title hopes of Kamui and Nyck, who needed a win to have any chance.

The chequered flag in Bahrain concluded a 2024 season which featured 72 hours of racing, at eight rounds on four continents over almost 10 months. TOYOTA GAZOO Racing’s season record stands at five podiums, including three wins, and two pole positions, earning 190 World Championship points. After an exciting year, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing congratulates new drivers’ World Champions Kévin Estre, Andre Lotterer and Laurens Vanthoor, and thanks all WEC competitors for their contribution to a memorable season.

A dramatic and challenging race had started strongly for the team when Sébastien led away from pole. But after 18 minutes its hopes suffered a blow when Sébastien was hit from behind by a GT car and spun down to seventh. He recovered to fifth before Brendon took over late in the second hour.

Brendon and Ryo then battled against tyre degradation on their stints but made a determined effort to keep the #8 in the top six and still in the hunt. The race turned on two safety car periods early in the second half of the race, which closed the gaps throughout the 18-strong Hypercar field.

When racing resumed with just over an hour remaining, Sébastien was 10th but only 15secs from the lead, and he began an incredible fight back to revive the team’s World Championship dream. A heroic charge through the field saw him overtake several rivals to move into second after his final pit stop.

With just over half an hour of the season remaining Sébastien completed a remarkable comeback drive by passing the #5 Porsche for the lead. He soon established a comfortable advantage and reached the chequered flag to win by 27.539secs for the #8 GR010 HYBRID’s second win of the season, and the team’s 10th in Bahrain.

For much of the race, the #7 car had looked the most likely GR010 HYBRID to challenge for victory. Mike moved up from fourth at the end of the first lap to be in the top three when Kamui took the wheel for what would be a dramatic stint. As the sun set in the fourth hour, Kamui’s bold overtaking elevated him to second.

However, the #7 was hit by a fuel pump issue which intermittently reduced performance. Drivers, engineers and mechanics looked for a solution and, initially, appeared to have succeeded when Kamui closed the gap and Nyck took the lead via a fast pit stop. But the trouble returned and the #7 slipped down the field.

Considering the problem would require a lengthy repair, the team prioritised victory and the championship. It decided to retire the #7 with just over two hours to go, in order to allow its crew members to support the #8 car’s challenge, expressing their solidarity and ensuring today’s title triumph was a genuine team effort.

LAS VEGAS (Nov. 3, 2024) – Two-time Top Fuel world champion Brittany Force won for the first time in 39 races on Monday at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, defeating reigning world champion Doug Kalitta in the final round of the 24th annual Ford Performance NHRA Nationals.

Austin Prock (Funny Car), Aaron Stanfield (Pro Stock) and Gaige Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also won the 19th of 20 races during the 2024 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season and the fifth of six races in the Countdown to the Championship playoffs.

Force went 3.703-seconds at 332.54 mph in her 11,000-horsepower Chevrolet Accessories dragster to defeat Kalitta, who smoked the tires off the starting line. It is Force’s 17th career win and her first since the fall race in Las Vegas in 2022. The victory also comes on a weekend when her father, 16-time world champion John Force, returned to the track for the first time since his crash in June at Richmond.

After qualifying No. 1 and running three times in the 3.60s, Force continued to flash the form that led to a world title two years ago. She defeated Josh Hart, Shawn Reed and Clay Millican to reach the finals and then powered the win in the final round, culminating in an emotional celebration on the top end and a John Force Racing double-up.

“We’ve been piecing this together since the Countdown began and we were seeing this progress with No. 1 qualifiers and going rounds on race day. We knew it was coming,” Force said. “We knew we were closing in on it and we were getting close, and I had a good feeling about Vegas. We’ve been successful here in the past, and it’s one of my favorite tracks on the circuit and my whole family was here. My dad was here. I just had a good feeling about it, and to come here and win, our team needed that. We’ve always stayed positive, always stayed confident, but it does hurt when you go two seasons without winning.

“Having my dad here for the first time since his crash, it wasn’t pressure, it was more heart behind every single person on the team. We always want to come out here and win, but with him being here this weekend, after everything he’s been through, there was definitely more heart behind it. We wanted to get him in that winner’s circle.”

Kalitta advanced to the finals for the sixth time this year and 118th in his career after defeating Ida Zetterstrom, Antron Brown and Shawn Langdon. Justin Ashley remains in the points lead and he’ll take a 44 and 45-point advantage over Brown and Langdon, respectively, into the finale.

In Funny Car, the championship is a mere formality now for standout Austin Prock, who moved closer to his first career world title by defeating Paul Lee in the championship round with a run of 3.830 in his 11,000-horsepower Cornwell Tools Chevrolet Camaro SS. It gives Prock his eighth victory this season in the midst of his incredible and dominant 2024 campaign, and he’s on the cusp of a Funny Car world championship. Prock now leads teammate Jack Beckman by 188 points and will officially clinch the world title at the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals in Pomona when he makes his first qualifying run in two weeks.

Prock qualified No. 1, breaking Force’s single-season Funny Car record for No. 1 qualifiers, and lived in the 3.80s all weekend, rolling past Tim Gibbons, Cruz Pedregon and Blake Alexander. That set up the matchup with Lee, who was seeking his first career Funny Car win, but Prock and his team made their best run of eliminations, handing Prock his 12th career win.

“It was a long weekend, an odd weekend, for sure, but a great weekend to have John back,” Prock said. “We heard he was coming this weekend, and all you want to do is put a smile on his face, make a good team effort, and we did exactly that. All three of our John Force Racing race cars were on fire this weekend. I won three races before I ever got in this car this year, and now I’ve got eight in one season. It’s pretty crazy.

“The job’s not finished until the [championship] trophy is in our hands and when it gets to my hands, it’s going straight to my dad’s hands, but we’re getting really close, so I’m excited that we won today. We still haven’t won the championship and that’s our main goal this year. When I got in the race car at the beginning of the year, my dad said he wanted to win a world championship and this team has just been lights out this year, outstanding job by each and every one of them.”

Lee advanced to the final round for the second time this year after defeating Steven Densham, Daniel Wilkerson and Beckman.

There’s a new points leader in Pro Stock and Aaron Stanfield managed to finish the job in Las Vegas as well, holding off Greg Anderson in the final round with a holeshot win and a run of 6.606 at 206.13 in his Johnson’s Horsepowered Garage/Janac Brothers car. Stanfield moved into the points lead with a semifinal victory and then made an emphatic statement a round later on Monday, picking up his sixth victory of the 2024 campaign and the 14th in his career.

After Dallas Glenn’s shocking first-round loss on Sunday, Stanfield took advantage and now leads Glenn by 32 points heading into the finale in Pomona. To get to the final round this weekend, Stanfield got past Eric Latino, Jeg Coughlin Jr. and David Cuadra in a wild semifinal. In the finals, Stanfield posted a strong .023 reaction time, which was enough to hold off Anderson’s 6.591 at 206.39.

“When Dallas went out ahead of me in round one and I knew it’s time to time to take advantage of the situation, I missed the tree a little bit and got away with it,” Stanfield said. “I got a little pissed off after that and got my head back together and drove well for the rest of the weekend.

“The pressure meter is maxed out, but pressure is a privilege and I’m not afraid of it. I feel like the majority of the time I do well under pressure, and we did exactly what we needed to do this weekend. We had some luck go our way, and we took advantage of it.”

Anderson advanced to the finals for the fifth time in 2024 and 181st time overall thanks to round wins against Chris McGaha, Camrie Caruso and Cristian Cuadra. Anderson trails Stanfield by 56 points heading into Pomona.

With a second straight championship in reach, Pro Stock Motorcycle points leader Gaige Herrera made an emphatic statement in Las Vegas, going a weekend-best 6.798 at 197.16 on his RevZilla/Mission Foods/Vance & Hines Suzuki to roll past Angie Smith in the final round. It is Herrera’s 10th victory of the season and the 21st in his career and after a slow start in the Countdown to the Championship, Herrera has returned to his dominant self, winning his third straight race.

In Las Vegas, Herrera qualified No. 1 and then knocked off Kahea Woods, John Hall and Hector Arana Jr. to reach the final round, turning it up even more against Smith in the final round. He’ll head into Pomona with a 123-point lead over Matt Smith, putting Herrera in prime position to reel in a second straight world title.

“To run that 6.79 in the final, the bike’s just been on rails. It has been all season, and as long as I do my job, Andrew [Hines, crew chief]and the guys always do their job to a T,” Herrera said. “They’re always about being perfect as possible, which pushes me to do the same.

“If I’m able to win the second championship — and anything can still happen — this one would mean a lot more than the first. I had to earn it a lot more this season. We kind of ran away with it last year, but this year it was definitely a lot tighter racing, and there wasn’t much room for error. It’s going to mean a lot more for sure.”

A. Smith reached the finals for the second time this season and the ninth time in her career after defeating Ryan Oehler, Geno Scali and Chase Van Sant.
