BRASELTON, Georgia (October 10, 2024) – JDX Racing has pulled its way into the home stretch of the 2024 Porsche Carrera Cup North America season with two cars in the top five of the standings and a visit for all four drivers to a track that is brand new to each of them, at least in a race setting.

Alex Sedgwick, Zachary Vanier, Elias De La Torre and Madeline Stewart visit Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta this week for Rounds 13 and 14 of the 16-race season. Sedgwick and Vanier sit second and fourth, respectively, in the Driver’s Championship with De La Torre ninth and Stewart 16th during her rookie campaign. As a support race for Saturday’s Petit Le Mans endurance race, Porsche Carrera Cup activities take place through the week. Practice began on Wednesday with a pair of sessions, with qualifying at 8:35 a.m. on Thursday morning and the first 40-minute race of the week at 5:05 p.m. EDT. Friday, October 11th’s race two is scheduled for a 10:55 a.m. EDT green flag.

  • Sedgwick leads the way among the JDX Racing drivers, all of whom are on pace for career-best finishes in Porsche Carrera Cup. Though a challenging start to the season means Sedgwick and his No. 98 PT Autosport/Byers Imports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup needs some luck to catch the leader, he holds a 19-point gap over third place heading into Road Atlanta.
  • Vanier was the Porsche Sprint Challenge champion in the 992 Porsche a season ago and earlier this season in Miami became the first person to win a race in both championships. A strong weekend in the No. 9 Technica Mining/Byers Imports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup at Road Atlanta would put him in position to climb as high as second in the standings at season’s end.
  • De La Torre has already more than tripled his point total of 29 from a year ago, scoring 91 points to sit ninth in the current standings. His No. 4 HCB Yachts/iKon Boats/Porsche Columbus Porsche 911 GT3 Cup has crossed the line for a top-five finish twice this season, at his home race of Miami and again at Road America.
  • Stewart’s No. 82 Spool Imports/Byers Imports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup in each of the past four races and in five of the past seven, showing her improvement as her rookie season has marched along. The strength of that run has allowed her to climb to 16th in the competitive field.
  • In addition to the individual driver’s championship, JDX sits second in the Entrant Standings, 35 points behind the leaders.

BRASELTON, Ga., (October 10, 2024) – The season finale for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is Saturday, October 12 at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, and Wright Motorsports sweeps into the weekend riding high with two recent back-to-back wins. The team comes into Petit Le Mans as the most recent GTD class race winners in the WeatherTech Championship, and also just secured a class victory and championship title in the Fanatec GT World Challenge series. This success has the team in high spirits as they prepare to conclude the season with the No. 120 Porsche 911 GT3 R, driven by Adam Adelson, Elliott Skeer, and Jan Heylen.

This weekend’s Petit Le Mans is a fan-favorite and a perfect way to close out the IMSA WeatherTech season. On Saturday, October 12, the season will conclude with ten hours of racing, beginning at 12:10 PM ET. Adelson, Skeer, and Heylen will rotate the driving duties of the Porsche 911 GT3 R, while the championship-winning pit crew will focus on keeping the car in top racing form over the course of the ten hours.

Cooler temperatures will play well into the hands of the Porsche, a machine known to perform exceptionally in cooler and even wet conditions. With lows reaching into the 40s Fahrenheit, and highs only in the 70s, Wright Motorsports has a strong package heading into the final event.

The season-finale endurance event is not only a part of the full-season championship, but it also marks the conclusion of the six-race endurance championship. PORT CHARLOTTE, FL – (October 9, 2024) – On Wednesday, October 9, a veteran in need from High Point NC, experienced a life-changing event – the presentation of a vehicle to provide him independence and the ability to take care of his family – thanks to the National Auto Body Council Recycled Rides® program , Allstate, Sherwin Williams, and Maaco. The presentation is part of a monthly event where Richard Childress Racing, in partnership with the charity Veterans Bridge Home, provides breakfast for more than 250 North Carolina veterans through their program “Veterans Coffee”.

Veterans Coffee has been a core component to Richard Childress Racing for nearly a decade. Veterans Bridge Home has trusted RCR in partnering and hosting this once-a-month event to help connect veterans to resources imperative to their livelihood and well-being. What started off with around 75 veterans has expanded into approximately 800 veterans being hosted in a banquet hall. Through coffee and social connections, veterans are connected with resources that are otherwise unavailable or hard to come by.

Allstate donated the vehicle, which was refurbished at Maaco South Boulevard in Charlotte, with the help of Solutions Works and Auto Glass Now. Sherwin Williams, NABC member and sponsor of Richard Childress Racing, sponsored the event.

During the eventa 2020 Chevy Equinox was presented to Keith Bracken, Marine Corps veteran who was nominated by Veterans Bridge Homes. Bracken, a High Point resident, served in the United States Marine Corps from August 2006 to October 2015. During that time, he was a 2841, Ground Electronics Transmission Systems Maintainer and a 0916, Martial Arts Instructor. Bracken deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan, serving his nation during a time of war. Due to his commendable service, Bracken received multiple military awards including the Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Afghanistan and Iraqi Campaign Medals, and many others. Upon exiting the Marine Corps, he moved to North Carolina with his wife and three children. Unfortunately, his wife was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes shortly after their son was born and has recently passed away. Throughout he struggles, Bracken has displayed the true integrity of being a veteran, by putting others before himself and sacrificing for those he loves. He currently walks four miles a day to work to provide for his family, and relies on neighbors/friends to get his kids to school due to lack of transportation. The gift of this vehicle will allow Bracken to drive to work, and take his kids to school, as there is no bus transportation where he lives.

 The Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course is the next stop on the 2024 tour for two of NASCAR’s top divisions, with the 2.28-mile, 17-turn circuit set to host the Round of 12 elimination race for the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series. The pivotal postseason doubleheader will determine the eight drivers that will continue in the championship battles for their respective series. Chevrolet is the only manufacturer that has already earned an early berth into the next round in both divisions, with Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron and JR Motorsports’ Sammy Smith punching a ticket into the Round of Eight in their respective series at Talladega Superspeedway last weekend.

 
Chevrolet at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course:

In NASCAR’s seven-race history at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course, Chevrolet is the only manufacturer with multiple wins in both of NASCAR’s top two divisions, with the Bowtie brand heading to the circuit with four NASCAR Cup Series wins and five NASCAR Xfinity Series wins.

Chase Elliott delivered Chevrolet its first Cup Series victory at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course in 2019, with the 28-year-old Dawsonville, Georgia, native becoming a back-to-back winner at the circuit in his championship-earning season. Following suit of his Hendrick Motorsports teammate, Kyle Larson took Chevrolet on three-straight trips to victory lane in 2021 en route to his first career championship title. One year ago, it was road course ringer AJ Allmendinger and the No. 16 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet team that drove their Camaro ZL1 to a playoff upset victory.

In the Xfinity Series, Chevrolet earned its first victory at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course in the series’ second appearance at the circuit (2019) – courtesy of a win by Kaulig Racing’s Allmendinger. Since then, it has been an all-Chevrolet victory lane for the series’ record books, with the 42-year-old Los Gatos, California, native collecting four-straight triumphs – recorded from 2019 to 2022. Last year, it was JR Motorsports’ Sam Mayer that drove his No. 1 Camaro SS to a playoff walk-off win that ultimately brought the young Chevrolet driver one step closer to his first career Championship Four appearance.

 
By the Numbers on Road Courses:

Sunday’s Bank of America ROVAL 400 will mark the 15th traditional road course event in NASCAR’s Next Gen era. The Camaro ZL1 took the checkered flag in two of the three traditional road course events this season – most recently with Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson at Sonoma Raceway (June 2024) to give Chevrolet its ninth road course win in the Next Gen era. Larson is one of six different Team Chevy drivers to earn a road course victory in the Next Gen Camaro ZL1, with others including Larson’s Hendrick Motorsports teammate William Byron (two wins); Kaulig Racing’s AJ Allmendinger (one win); Trackhouse Racing’s Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez (one win each); and Tyler Reddick with Richard Childress Racing (two wins).

BYRON HEADS HOME WITH EARLY PLAYOFF BERTH

Enduring yet another challenging, wildcard race in the Round of 12, the four Hendrick Motorsports teammates will head to the organization’s home track with a strong stance in the playoff standings.

William Byron and the No. 24 Chevrolet team earned their second consecutive podium finish of the round at Talladega Superspeedway. Pairing the finish with another strong 48-point day, the 26-year-old Charlotte, North Carolina, native was able to snatch the first ticket into the Round of Eight. Looking to add onto his already 74-point cushion over the playoff cutline, Byron heads to a track where he has found a fair amount of success – earning top-10 results in three of his six career starts at the circuit, including a career-best runner-up finish that came one year ago. A strong finish to conclude the second round will set up what could potentially be Byron’s strongest trio of tracks in the series’ postseason, with the Chevrolet driver being a past winner at all three tracks in the Round of Eight.

Byron’s teammates will also enter the season’s second playoff elimination race with double-digit points cushions. Coming off a career-best superspeedway finish, Kyle Larson and the No. 5 Chevrolet team moved up one position to third in the playoff standings with a 52-point advantage over the elimination line. The 32-year-old Elk Grove, California, native is one of just five past winners in NASCAR’s top division at the North Carolina circuit – recorded in his championship-earning season (2021). Alex Bowman and the No. 48 Chevrolet team currently sit fifth in the playoff standings and 26 points above the elimination line. In his five career starts at the North Carolina circuit, the 31-year-old Tucson, Arizona, native has yet to finish outside the top-10, with the driver leading the series with a 6.4 average finish. Rounding out the top-eight of the playoff standings is two-time ROVAL winner Chase Elliott, with the No. 9 Chevrolet team heading into the weekend with a 13-point cushion over the elimination line.

After a pair of tough races for the No. 99 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet team, Daniel Suarez will take on the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course from the 10th position in the playoff ranks (-20 points).

Elliott Looking to Tap Previous Road Course Success

Despite still looking for his first road course victory in the Next Gen era, Chase Elliott has earned the reputation as one of NASCAR’s greatest road course racers. The 28-year-old Dawsonville, Georgia, native has seven career road course victories in NASCAR’s top division to his name to lead all active drivers. Two of those victories have come at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course, making the 28-year-old Dawsonville, Georgia, native the only multi-time winner at the North Carolina circuit. A win on Sunday would not only solidify his spot in the Round of Eight, but also move Elliott to second on the series’ all-time road course wins list, tying NASCAR Hall of Famer Tony Stewart with eight. At the top of that list is career Chevrolet driver Jeff Gordon with nine career Cup Series road course victories.

SMITH SURGES UP THE STANDINGS

A long-awaited NASCAR Xfinity Series victory with the No. 8 JR Motorsports Chevrolet team finally came to fruition for Sammy Smith last weekend, with the 20-year-old Johnston, Iowa, native making a last-lap pass in his Camaro SS to take the checkered flag at Talladega Superspeedway. Entering the second race of the round at a double-digit deficit to the elimination line, the Chevrolet driver turned what was setting up to be a must-win scenario to advance into a surge to the top playoff standings.

With seven positions left up for grabs in the Xfinity Series Round of Eight, three Chevrolet drivers find themselves sitting above the cutline heading into the Charlotte race weekend. Among those drivers includes the pair of Richard Childress Racing teammates, Austin Hill and Jesse Love, both of which hold a double-digit points cushion.

Rounding out the top-eight of the standings is the series’ most decorated road course racer, AJ Allmendinger, with the No. 16 Kaulig Racing Camaro SS team sitting plus-seven markers over the elimination line. The 42-year-old Los Gatos, California, native has tallied five career victories in the NASCAR national ranks at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course, including four-in-a-row in the Xfinity Series (2019-2022). Allmendinger has recorded 11 career road course victories in the Xfinity Series, earning the record as the only driver in series’ history to produce a double-digit win count on road courses.

Van Gisbergen, Mayer Among Potential Frontrunners

Among the four drivers on the outside looking in includes a pair of Chevrolet road course ringers. Kaulig Racing’s Shane van Gisbergen became a first-time Xfinity Series winner at Portland International Raceway earlier this summer, with the series’ rookie making yet another trip to victory lane just one week later at Sonoma Raceway. The 35-year-old Auckland, New Zealand, native ended the regular season as a three-time winner this season, collecting his third trophy on the left- and right-hand turns of the Chicago Street Course.

JR Motorsports’ Sam Mayer may have an uphill battle heading into the elimination weekend, but the 21-year-old Franklin, Wisconsin, native has proven to know how to capitalize on the added playoff pressure. One year ago, Mayer entered the Round of 12 elimination weekend at this very same venue in a similar position. But with a boost of confidence from two road course wins earlier that season, Mayer powered his Camaro SS to a walk-off win at the North Carolina circuit to keep his title hopes alive.

“I’m still learning. The frontstretch chicane actually does not feel as different as I thought it would. Until I feel it in real life, I won’t really know. The hairpin is wild. I’m still getting used to it. I’m plugging laps away on the simulator but I need more laps. It doesn’t feel natural because its new.”

How much work have you put into refining your road course racing?

“So much work has gone into it. Turning right seems simple, but it’s been something that’s been such a challenge for me. I’ve gone to Skip Barber’s Driving School to learn how to turn right. I’ve leaned on Josh Wise and Scott Speed so much. Chevrolet has taken us out to Spring Mountain and has done schooling with Ron Fellows and the instructors there. It wasn’t any one thing, it was just so many years of trying to learn how to do this.”

“We feel good heading into the ROVAL. I get excited because I love road courses and it is a lot of fun to race at them. The Spire cars had a lot of speed at Watkins Glen with all three cars finishing in the top 10, so I’m curious to see where we end up this weekend. I feel like the road course stuff is really good and the team is confident about it. I have a road course background myself, and have ran well at the ROVAL throughout my career. We will see how the new configuration mixes things up. The new re-entrance to the oval should open a new passing zone and make for some physical racing. There’s nothing as special as the Charlotte ROVAL.”

You’ve collected great runs at road courses in your career. Why has road racing come so natural to you?

“I grew up Trans Am racing. I was kind of the first to do the NASCAR-Trans Am crossover, and now it is a huge steppingstone for guys like Connor Mosack and Connor Zilisch. I did a bunch of sports car racing when I was younger. I won at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in the Truck Series. I always ran well at the road courses in Xfinity and I have a pair of top fives in the Cup Series at Chicago and the ROVAL. I’ve always been comfortable at those kinds of places.”

There have been changes made to the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL configuration. Do you think that will create additional passing zones and improve the quality of racing?

“Anytime there are changes made to a road course I think it is always directed towards creating additional passing zones and improving the quality of racing so hopefully that happens. I think the area of the racetrack before in Turns 6,7 and 8 was always single file, follow the leader, so maybe now you’ll have guys pull out a line and try to make a pass in the hairpin before getting back up on the big track.”

Would you be in favor of changing the course layout of a street course or the ROVAL every few years to mix things up?

“I’m more in favor in going to different, permanent courses then street courses or rovals.”

“I kind of look at it like it’s a new race track, truthfully. That section of the track is going to change the entire flow of the lap there, so I’ve been kind of approaching it as a new track with my preparation. I’ve spent some time in the simulator, just trying to really memorize the track and where the little bumps are. Typically those track scans are pretty good. I think that’s probably one of the best things about the simulator is that a driver can go and get familiar with the track layout; surface content, roughness, so on and so forth. It’s really about all I feel like I can do until we get some time on-track.”

I think we can run really good. Not only did the No. 77 team run well at Watkins Glen, but the company got all three cars in the top 10. We have a little bit of a question mark since I’ve never been to the ROVAL, but we look to replicate the speed we had at Watkins Glen.”

How does the change in the layout of the course help you in your first start on the ROVAL?

“The reconfiguration and layout change has taken a little bit away from the guys who have experience there. It allows us to approach it with an open mind and no preconceived notion on how the track should be. On the flip side, the guys who have run there before have a couple major areas of the track in which they have to change their approach. Hopefully it takes them a little bit to forget the old and figure out the new while I am catching up on the other areas of the track!”

How do approach this weekend in Charlotte?

“This is a big week for us. We have already put in a lot of work on Charlotte on the simulator. This ROVAL race is going to be different for sure. I think the changes to the track will create passing zones. Right now, our work is in the virtual world. We are doing this on a simulator. Nobody has been running laps in real life. So we are going to find out what these changes mean on Saturday.”

Are you happy with the changes?

“It’s going to be interesting. I am actually happy. I’m happy that SMI and NASCAR are allowing these changes. We have been racing at the ROVAL for six years and it’s been an amazing race, but changes like these will spice things up even more. I’m happy everyone continues to think outside the box and makes the sport even more exciting.”

NASCAR weekend schedule for Charlotte Road Course

The Playoffs continue this weekend as the NASCAR Cup Series competes on the Charlotte ROVAL on Sunday afternoon in the last race of the Round of 12.

After the race, four drivers will be eliminated from Cup Series championship contention. Joey Logano (-13), Daniel Suárez (-20), Austin Cindric (-29) and Chase Briscoe (-32) are currently below the cutline.

Four Xfinity Series drivers will also be eliminated from the Playoffs following the race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Drivers below the cutline include Justin Allgaier (-7), Shane van Gisbergen (-10), Sam Mayer (-13) and Parker Kligerman (-16).

The CRAFTSMAN Truck Series is off until October 26 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

  • Cole Custer enters Saturday’s Drive for the Cure 250 on the Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway Roval with high hopes as he sits second in the points standings and third in the playoffs standings as the series heads to the Round of 12 finale. After the first two playoff races, Custer sits 37 points above the Round of 8 cutline due largely to his solid second-place finish Sept. 28 at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City. Last week on the Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway oval, Custer drove to a 27th-place finish that normally would not bode well for his championship hopes, but he banked 13 valuable playoff points by virtue of his two race wins and three stage wins, as well as a 15-point bonus for winning the regular-season championship. Custer arrives at Charlotte tied for second in the standings with Austin Hill, 27 points behind leader Chandler Smith. Barring a disastrous result Saturday, Custer is in position to advance to the Round of 8 on points. A win would to lock him into the next round and earn an additional five playoff points. Custer has made the playoffs in all five of his fulltime Xfinity Series seasons, advancing to the Championship 4 in all but his rookie season in 2017, when he missed it by one position. As he eyes back-to-back championships, Custer knows that if he can make it out of the Round of 12, the team will hit its sweet spot of racetrack combinations in the Round of 8 – Oct. 19 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Oct. 26 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, and Nov. 2 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway.
  • The Drive for the Cure 250 marks Custer’s fourth Xfinity Series start at the road course that incorporates portions of the Charlotte Motor Speedway oval. He made his first start in the inaugural Roval race in September 2018, when he finished seventh and led five laps. He followed that with an eighth-place finish in September 2019 after starting sixth. In last year’s race, Custer looked to be on his way to another road-course victory in the final laps when Sam Mayer passed him for the lead. Custer emerged with his best Roval finish of second. This weekend, he’s looking for redemption. Custer has an additional three starts outside of the Xfinity Series on the Roval, all coming in the NASCAR Cup Series from 2020 to 2022 with a best finish of ninth in October 2020.
  • Custer has excelled on road courses since his return to the Xfinity Series at the start of the 2023 season, finishing in the top-10 in every race but four when turning right and left. In nine road-course and two street-course starts since 2023, Custer has earned two victories and nine top-10s. Custer’s history on road courses suggests he’s a silent road-course ringer. He followed up his June 2023 victory at Portland (Ore.) International Raceway with another win in the inaugural Chicago Street Race in July 2023. Custer has finished in the top-10 in 20 of his 24 career road-course outings. This past March 24, he finished fourth on the 3.426-mile, 20-turn Circuit of the Americas (COTA) layout in Austin, Texas. He followed that up with a sixth-place finish June 1 at Portland and a ninth-place result June 8 at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway.

Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

  • Riley Herbst heads to the final race of the Round of 12 of the NASCAR Xfinity Series playoffs focused on making it to the Round of 8 for the first time in his young career. The driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang Dark Horse enters Saturday’s Drive for the Cure 250 on the Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway Roval seventh in the playoff standings, 20 points above the top-eight cutline. While he has been open about expecting to struggle in the first round, Herbst knows that if he can make it to the Round of 8, he’ll have a good shot at fighting for a spot in the Championship 4. The Round of 8 includes the intermediate tracks of Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway, plus the short track of Martinsville (Va.) Speedway – all of which Herbst has excelled at in his career. The three tracks could be considered Stewart-Haas Racing’s “bread and butter” as the team owns wins at two of the three tracks in the Xfinity Series. Herbst finished the best of the Stewart-Haas Xfinity Series Ford Mustangs in all three races of the Round of 8 last season with his win Oct. 14 at Las Vegas, runner-up finish Oct. 21 at Homestead-Miami, and fourth-place result Oct. 28 at Martinsville. He scored more points than any driver in the Round of 8 and, had he been in the playoffs, he would’ve advanced to the Championship 4. Herbst hopes to repeat that feat this year and officially make the field for the championship race. First, he has to survive and advance Saturday on the Roval.
  • The Las Vegas native looked to be on his way to his second win of the 2024 season last Saturday at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. He started sixth and quickly found himself in the front of the field. He finished the first stage just outside the top-10 and sixth in the second stage. In total, Herbst led six times for a total of 22 laps throughout the day. With no drafting help at the end of the race, Herbst was forced to settle for a third-place finish, his second straight top-three at Talladega after his runner-up finish in April. While he wasn’t able to capture the win, he was able to secure a solid points day for the No. 98 team in the championship battle.
  • The Drive for the Cure 250 will be Herbst’s fifth career Xfinity Series start on the Charlotte Roval. Herbst had a strong outing in his first start there in 2020 during a torrential downpour. He ran up front and led seven laps en route to a 12th-place finish, best among that year’s rookie class. In October 2021, Herbst started ninth and was holding his position in the top-10 during the final stage before a suspension issue ended his race seven laps from the finish. In 2022, Herbst started 11th and led a lap before an accident ended his bid five laps from the finish. His best finish of fourth was earned last October in his first of five straight top-five finishes to end the 2023 season after narrowly missing the playoff field.
  • Herbst is driving for a team that knows how to win on the Roval. SHR’s No. 98 team won the inaugural Xfinity Series race there in Sept. 2018 with driver Chase Briscoe. It was Briscoe’s first career Xfinity Series victory. He led twice for 33 laps to beat Justin Marks by 1.478 seconds.

Talladega didn’t quite go how you would’ve liked, but you’re still in a good spot to make the Round of 8, 37 points above the top-eight cutline. How are you approaching this weekend knowing that you’ll still have to continue watching the points situation?

“Talladega was just rough. There wasn’t anything we could do to avoid that wreck and it just killed our day, unfortunately. Still, I’m confident going into this weekend. We’re 37 points to the good of the cutline and should be in a good spot if we can just finish the race. After finishing second last year, I think we’ll have a chance to go for the win, too. We’ve had fast cars on road courses, but it’s always hard when you have guys like Shane Van Gisbergen and AJ Allmendinger in the field. They’re the ones you have to beat to win on this style of track. I think we’ll be in contention, though, and find ourselves in the Round of 8 once again.”

You’ve had solid runs on the Charlotte Roval in your previous starts there, earning back-to-back top-10s in 2018 and 2019, plus the runner-up finish last year. Do you feel like this is a solid track for you and the team, and what are your thoughts heading into the weekend?

“I think the Roval has been a good track for us throughout my career at Stewart-Haas Racing, and you even saw that in my return to the series last year. Road courses in general have been strong for us and we’ve been silent contenders almost every race. Our road-course cars have been really good this year, even if we haven’t always gotten the results. We scored two victories on road courses last season, but I have a good history at them, in general. Hopefully, we can continue to keep that up and secure our spot in the Round of 8 this Saturday. I think the Roval will be a good race for us even with some solid road-course aces in the field. We’ve always been able to compete with them and I think we’ll be able to do that again. We just need to have a fast car and not make mistakes to keep ourselves in the game at the end to easily advance.”

Saturday’s race marks the last race of the Round of 12 of the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs. Currently, you’re 20 points above the top-eight cutline in seventh. With the Roval being labeled a wild card, what’s your thought process heading into the weekend?

“I mean, 20 points to the good is better than being below the cutline. It puts us in a better position than we’ve been in during the past when heading into this race. I have yet to advance out of the Round of 12 in my career, so that’s ultimately the goal this weekend. We have to be smart and not put ourselves in bad situations, but we also have to be aware of that points battle. The No. 98 Monster Energy team had a good run there last year and finished fourth, but the Roval has been a track that I’ve struggled at. I don’t really enjoy it, so if we can make it out of this clean and into the Round of 8, that’ll be a good day for us. Obviously, there’s the unknown of the new turn seven, but we have a 50-minute practice session on Saturday morning to hopefully figure it out.”

The Charlotte Roval has been a difficult track for you in the past, but you’ve also never been in this situation where you have a 20-point cushion going into a playoff cutoff race. How are you approaching this weekend?

“To be honest, this is one track that I haven’t been able to wrap my head around. I don’t enjoy it as a driver, but every driver has tracks like that. It’s not that we haven’t run decent there in the past, but I think I was just at a disadvantage because I never had a full practice session on this track. Road courses have always been a struggle for me, but then you take an oval and make it into a road course, and it just isn’t my strength. The first two years at SHR, we had such bad luck there and didn’t finish either race. Then last year, we didn’t have the pressure of the playoffs and we finished fourth. We’re trying to keep that same mindset we had last year, but there’s still a playoff battle. None of us are sure about what to think about this new configuration, but at least we’re all in the same boat there. Hopefully, we can have another strong weekend as a team and have both us and the No. 00 team advance to the Round of 8.”
